It really makes my day to see you using safety glasses we want you around for more builds so keep up the safety.
Lol! I am a retired eye doctor and have wrote AT LEAST a dozen comments reminding him to use safety glasses. After having removed thousands of bits of metal and rust from patients eyes including a few full thickness penetrating injuries cannot over emphasize their importance!
And gloves whilst dealing with all those burnt bits
@@jacklittle1624 You will have opportunity to write at least a dozen more:)
When it comes to the seats (and pretty much any other part) you have to remember that fire not only causes problems like warping, it also can change the strength of the steel. Given that the seat frames are not super expensive, I would get new. Reusing any panel that was burned is a risk, you should spend extra (off camera) time investigating the structural integrity of each of the panels on the car including the floors to assure that you don't have any weakness. Remember, much of that stuff is structure! If it hasn't already been done, this would likely be a good candidate car for frame connectors / stiffening to make the car super solid and able to handle whatever horsepower you stuff in the front.
Yep, you can lose the tempering for the steel. What should be high strength is butter. Not a huge deal for cosmetic panels but structural is another matter all together. Since the Mustang is a unibody design you have to be very careful. Now, you could just throw some paint on it and sell it but that might not be safe for the long run or if it got into a serious accident. Even more so if they stuff a big motor into it. The original six cylinder probably not as big a deal.
The carpet didn't burn, so the floor should be good
The seat covers were melted, but not burned down to expose metal to the fire. It (the inner metal frame) probably wasn't even too hot to hold. The metal dash on the other hand... that got HOT. It would be the part to concider close inspection and possible replacement.
@@johnb7430 He did mention that it's possible that it will need a new firewall, and my thought is "not possibly, just do it". That appears to have been the epicenter of the fire, and it clearly will need attention. it may be able to be sand blasted and repaired to look okay, but after that much heat, it's likely too brittle to do the same job if this was to happen again.
Fire cars generally need a lot more attention than you think, heat is a killer even when the parts look reasonable.
@@derekrogers3426 , I wasn’t concerned with the floor pans. I am more concerned with the frame rails and the torque boxes, and such. Those actually undergo significant stress during hard driving etc.
When you have the cowl off make sure your inner cowl vents are not rusted out or the seam sealer around the collars is not cracking. Leaking cowl vents are a problem in these cars to a point there is a cowl vent cover made of plastic or other materials with little push and twist hold downs that make water not able to go down the cowl in the rain.
You are correct, had to repair my 67
I wonder if that’s the reason for the crappy patch on the top of the cowl. Instead of drilling it out, they just cut a hole in the top skin.
The patch job was probably to fix the heater core, they were known to leak. They are a witch to get off. You'll need a whole dash assembly complete with all the ventilation .....
I would mount a small winch on the back wall for pulling disabled cars in the shop
Yeah dude, go OEM on everything except the motor. Then it will hold value.
Actually for your information keeping that car all original like it was brand new if at all possible would make it more valuable but that never happens anymore because of stupid people just don't get it.
I start to like your videos more than the goonzquad videos, you are more focused on working on the cars and not talking as much as they do, in each video you finish the part that you have to do with the car, congratulations and continue like this without putting so much stuffing and just talking like they do
Had a 65 mustang when I was in high school in the 80’s. Same body style but mine had rust issues. Save the old parts. There’s a market for everything mustang. Hood is now shop art.
Straighten it,and paint. Then use it over the shop's door .Your first project here will always be part of the shop.
The quality of the editing is fantastic. Nice work guys
Don’t think it was in an accident, I think fire fighters forced hood open with jaws of life to spray down the engine.
LOL!!!
They bent the Tie rod with the jaws of life too...
@@eriklarson9137 explain to me how a supposed accident like that bent the tie rod? Probably bent for a long while prior to fire.
FYI, A old riding mower will push a car just fine and you can also keep your grass cut and keep it looking neat....and a riding mower is 1/4 the price of a 4 wheeler.
Was gonna suggest the same thing
Pretty sure he needs a vacuum and some proper rubber wheel chocks. Other then that that car is a beauty and I do like that white with blue stripe. ❤️❤️❤️
Thats a classic Ford paint scheme for those years.
This project moving nicely, is quickly recovering vTuned from some possible PTSD caused by the previous Mustang.
And the mclaren
@@jasonharryphotog The McLaren didn't seem as a big concerning project. Maybe in the financial department, not with the motivation and joy it brought.
👍Yea, that old Mustang project just grew and grew into a nightmare. But hey I have none of these skills. happy New Year from Australia.🍻
@@liamgross7217 When he started to cut that Mustang in half, and all that suspension fabrication work after...was almost leading to a panic attack, to some viewers. Now imagine being the actual person doing the job.
@@RogerM88 it was actually the centre cut and how he was going to widen it that had me really interested. Like I said I have none of these skills so all respect these guys who do or have a good crack at it. He dug a hole for himself but learned a lot. Happy new year from Australia.🇦🇺🍻👍
As was mentioned previously, since it's a 4 lug car, the original engine would've been a 6 cylinder. The v8 option would've been a 289, not a 302.
6 cylinder mustngs 4 lugs 8 cylinders had 5 lugs
@@jsilverssilvers9107 not sure about the older mustang's, but my buddy had an '89ish mustang GT 5.0L v8 and it had 4 lug with drum brakes on the back. I use to harass him because my '87 Dodge Daytona Shelby-Z had 5 lug with four wheel disk brakes. LOL He didn't much like a turbo 4 banger keeping up with him either. LOL
@@argonx666 I think Fox bodies (79 to 93) were all 4 lug. New Mustangs are all 5 lug. Not sure when they changed. 64 to 68 are 4 lug for 6 cylinder and 5 for v8.
Generally glue wasn’t used on old school windscreen rubbers, the seal sits on the flange and a wire or string inside is used to pull the inner part over from inside the car. I don’t think any glue has melted. Also keep the trims in chrome/stainless finish for a more period look.
This is a very cool project! I love old hotrods, I've had a few. It doesn't look like it got to burned up. The dash should be good once you've sanded it down. The dash pad and everything else is available
For some reason 6 cylinder cars always tend to be less rusty that V8 cars, Maybe because they were considered a secretary's car and they were garaged.
What most of people don’t realize is that parking their car in the garage in winter can make the rusting effects of road salt even worse, and here’s how.
The salt-filled snow and slush that clings to your car is bad, but it’s not that bad if it remains frozen.
When you park your car in the garage, even if it isn’t heated, the slush can melt from the heat of the engine. The water that results from the melted slush increases the rust-causing properties of the salt. That can lead to more rust damage than if the car remained outside.
The dampness in your garage does not quickly evaporate because of winter’s cooler temperatures and the lack of ventilation. That means your car can be wet for longer periods than it is dry. That prolonged wetness gives salt more time to do its dirty work.
Every time you take your car out and bring it back in again, the whole corrosion-causing process repeats itself.
It’s badass how the videos are flowing now. Keep them coming guys!!!
That's one dirty but clean shell. Lol. Well Bought Ben. It's going to be Epic.
You're lucky there's no bondo. You got a great car to start with. You can get a used instrument panel cheap at a swap meet. Around $25 to $35 Buying the gauges separately can get expensive.
I changed a 6 cyl to a V8 last year. You'll have to change the rear end and front spindles to do it right. I got carried away and installed power disc brakes Borgeson power steering box and an Ididit column. I did the opposite paint job. Pearl blue with white stripes. Turned a $3000 car into a $30,000 car. I didn't keep track of what it cost but I think I came out ahead.
Now I'm looking for an old Falcon for the 6 Cyl drivetrain. Unless you want to use it in that fastback. I've enjoyed watching the progress on that one. Hard to believe someone so talented could screw up so much. lol.
no way it sells for 30k
@@13christbane it originally sold for 15K but it was a 6 cyl. The new owner wanted the upgrades . 4K for an engine from Summitt. Another 4K for the Tremec 5 speed. 5 bolt rear end front spindles with power disc brakes etc. plus labor. He had more than $30K in it when it was done. He could have had a Shelby for what that coupe cost him. We did the build on my channel. check it out. Lots of videos on the Mustang.
You struck gold and I'm glad!!! Slap that Coyote engine, suspension and chassis upgrades and you will be good. I am also glad that you have your own shop!!!
I would love it if you kept it as authentic as possible. What makes this car special is it's the real deal. Sticking a bigger inauthentic powerplant in there doesn't keep with the theme.
It's already been modified from original. This was a 6cyl car to begin with. Going with the modern engine just makes sense. Ben already has the powerplant. And it's actually cheaper to get swap it, than to try to get any decent power and reliability out of an old, carbureted small block.
You sure did find a diamond in the rough vtuned, make this build awesome
The roof seems like it has a Seam that revealed itself , peeling back the layers . Old School Style
thats from the brace inside that got hot and made that part of the roof super hot too.
The stang looks so much better already without all the toasted crap inside , wish you would have pulled the hood , why do I smell burnt plastic while typing this 🤔🤣. Have a great and safe New Year everyone 🎉✌️
You really won the lottery when it comes to buying a wreck. This mustang is a f*cking gem of a build.
Wish you all the best for 2022 guys, and mostly the health, stay strong 💪
No offense my TH-cam friend I might check with hemmings motor news and eBay 6 cylinder cars nice clean cherry go for 15 or 20 like I mentioned before that has four lug nuts that used to be a six cylinder car you'll have to switch the front spindles out to five lugs and take out that little rear end to put in a minimum of 8 in 5 lug 9-in would be better like I said no offense I own a mustang I switched out a six I'm buried alive in it but I've got a nice black on black 66 mustang now after 25,000 and 7 years good luck with this project
you are correct sir. this car was never worth more than 20k finished. he will break even if he is lucky,. aside from any ad revenue
Better order that interior right now. You’ll be waiting over 6 months.
I hope you know that this was a 6 cylinder car. It has the 4 lug pattern. It will never hold up to the Coyote power. You'll have to convert it to the 5 lug rear end and likely convert to Disc brakes.
I made a comment he should decode the VIN and find out a little bit more about the car what motor came with it was factory air what color it was this will help a lot when doing a restoration
He said in the last video he now intends to put a 5.0 in the fastback and a 5.0 in this car. Still, a more modern suspension and drivetrain should pay dividends.
Other than the 289, it would be so nice to see this kept authentic while the fastback gets all the goods. Someone has put time and money into this one already to keep its history true
They make a really nice after market power rack and pinion steering system and power disc brake conversion for mustangs and Falcons. For the rear end a rear end from a orig v8 car and put in at least a 3:55 gear ratio Detroit locker rear end and that car will fly.
In 65 they didn' use base coat/clear coat. It was all single stage lacquer
no shit sherlock but this car does not have original paint.
@@13christbane Never said it did.
Honestly it looks like a diamond in the rough. man no rust and solid panels... man EASY fix for a dude with your tinkering powers :D
Keep it white
Lose the rAcInG sTrIpEs and those cheesy mags. (1970's called, want's the wheels back)
Lower
20 inch wheels w/low profile tires (white or black w/polished aluminum.
B SICK AF
I think cople years later thys car price skyrocket - original factory metal 0 midifacion, 0 printed thins - all is real on tuch. This is impressive build. thums up! :)
Hope you find the previous owners to get the history of the car. It would be great if the person or garage that restored it in the past had pictures to email you to continue on with the car. This Mustang is in excellent condition. A real win for your channel. 2022 is starting out great for Vtuned. Happy New Year's.
The foam on the Milwaukee safety goggles is meant to keep them from fogging up. Nice to have. Get that lift wired up so you can work underneath cars. A wheel chock or two would be nice too. Keep it up look forward to this Stang cruising again.
never lose that attitude bro. positivity is the key to your success.
MQQRK is NASTY with the filming/editing
good work, your Mustang originally had a 6 cylinder, 4 wheel bolts. put in a modern engine, coyote is a great option. happy new year from switzerland, tom
You seem much happier now. All the best in the new year!!
Remember before you put a windshield in that car you have to do the headliner and the windshield and the rear window the same time you do the headliner because the headliner tucks under the seal of the back window and the windshield
Looking forward to seeing this car finished just like it left the factory. And the journey to get to the finished state. Its good to see you in your own shop
I suggest you put a Shelby hood scoop and Shelby scoops on the side, to go with the Shelby paint colors.
But it isn't a Shelby and so will be seen as a fake. That will lose a lot of value. Originality is everything in these old cars to get top dollar.
Not sure I would put the 5.0 Litre Ben intends to fit either.
@@1chish all original is out of the question at this point because it needs to be restored a second time. before the wreck it was probably worth 25k. and the car had a 6 cylinder originally if the front fenders are stock, so it’s aready very far from stock. The paint is not an original option either. The coupes don’t lose value when you modify them unless it’s absolutely 100% original. I own one of them I know the market. A 5.0 will not hurt value at all, he might lose money but the car will be worth just as much or much more than before the fire.
@@1chish nobody calls a coupe with scoops a “fake” (just haters who wish they had one), if anything it’s a replica, but It’s more just someone who likes the look
@@dannyjudge2876 Well thanks for the insult mate.
Do you pile in to everyone who just offers a different opinion? But as someone who has restored classic cars for many years I feel I am entitled to that opinion. Bet you are a right gas at parties 😂
And just for the record I have absolutely no wish to own a Mustang (or any other Yank car) of any description thank you.
@@1chish did I insult u? Lol I just said only hates rip on other peoples cars and call them fakes lol. Sorry didn’t know only you could express your thoughts.
Wishes of happiness and prosperity VTuned community ✨
Same to you. Happy New Year!
I hope to see many older cars being rebuilt bro
Sand blast the complete car, in and out, and do some legit paint. Will be the best the paint to look solid and not as patches from different qualities, due the good condition of the metal will be the best to look as a high quality restomode
And will 110% get rid of the smoke smell
@@FlyEaglesFly19111 also reveal some hidden damage
I'm not sure those are the original floor pans, I believe they should be the original color of the car if original. Those look rather after market.
I'd bet if you cleaned the v-8,and repainted, you'd be able to re-wire, new carb, distributer cap,all hoses and fire it up.289,or 302,it was probably rebuilt as the car was.Find the code #s on the vin and find the right straight-6.Sell the V-8 and cover the car's cost.
I love fire cars!! This one looks to be in very very good shape! Happy New Year vTuned!
Happy New Years to you to!

@@Vtuned Avoid calling this car or anything you do it to like "Eleanor." B is for build started calling his 1965 mustang eleanor, got sued by the company that makes Eleanor and the court took his mustang away.
@@craigmorgan4676 funny that I see rust
I believe you got something there Tennessee. Like you said the more you take off the better it looks and I can feel your excitement and enthusiasm for that ole mule. This is going to be an epic journey.
Your going to need to tarmac out front of the garage. Nice to see the teamwork ! Awesome video guys keep them coming.
The mustang should be " vtuned iconic built" 👍👍
You and the Goon brothers finally get two gems. Both awesome builds that thing was a cream puff. Before someone pulled in front of it. Restore it keep it stock great example of a mustang. Pure stock. My two cents.
I agree
You have started a new car washing trend - forget the two bucket method - the two brush method is a winner 🤣🤣 Fast as well 👍
Someone is about to pour his heart and soul into this project! The 'stang is shaping up to be the project of the year for '22! -- Happy New Year, Team vTuned!
Looks great. As solid as it sounds, it might be nice to sand blast and start over. Just a thought. Happy New Years Ben!
That black and white interior would look absolutely stunning on that car, especially if you keep the Wimbledon White/Guardsman Blue (the original colors) exterior. That blue has a nice metallic effect, too.
I'd take the seat springs out and send them to a spring shop to get them heat treated. The fire probably annealed them soft. Then powder coat after reassembling into sandblasted frames.
the 65 notchback is probably my favorite body style of the older mustangs. Good thing that you can get parts so easily as well. Good luck on the project!
It's winter, vacations over, time to get to work. Glad to see you in your own shop. Carpe Diem!
Noticed one thing that needs to be addressed! It was a 6cyl car conversion to 8cyl. 4 lug nuts vs V8 has a 5 lug setup. Don’t make the mistake of not finishing the whole car setup. But still love the content as Mustangs are cool!
Love a stang with a trunk. Shelby hood and grill and sequential tail lights. Cool car V. Would be sick if you could re skin the roof with a newer challenger top w a sunroof.
Looks like that mustang is in excellent condition They floor pans look great and the body. Big fan of urs.
After what you went thru with the other mustang and McClaren you deserve to have good news and an awesome build. Good luck Ben
The new shop and you just working without distraction is producing some really solid content. You have renewed my interest in watching!
The roof is lead soldered in at the bottom by the quarter window just above the quarter. I’d do exactly what you’re thinking and splice the two together up higher. It’ll be a lot less work.
I would keep the visors and all the seat belt and trim bolts. Easier to keep that stuff now and throw it away later when you are sure you don’t need them. The seats can hopefully be recovered unless the fire warped the springs. Good luck!
my uncle david had a 67 mustang when i was a kid and then he also bought a 65 fastback 2 plus 2 in the 80s. i've always loved those early mustangs.
Since the roof is messed up, would adding a sunroof make it easier than replacing the entire roof? And who doesn't like a sunroof while cruising around? 😎
It is good to see you back to fixing cars.
Use lead instead of bondo when restoring. Minus a skim coat. Since the car is in such good shape, take your time and make it a show car!
👍
best part about some old cars is that the glass does not have glue their seals are a press fit design but that can always bite you because i have had several crack during install.
I wish you had a shop vac. I wanted to jump through the screen and start vacuuming once you pulled the carpet out.. Lol!!!
Cant wait to see the progress on this build. If you have any questions about the restoration process or build questions for classic Mustangs, hit up Chris, Cody, or Preston over at Mustang Restorations in Illinois. Here's your guy for information on Mustang restorations. He can tell you where to get all your hard to find parts and pieces. Check out his channel, might give you some ideas. God bless and stay well.
Looks like it used to be a 6cyl Mustang with the 4 lug wheels.
not a ford guy but love the mustang pretty easy build when you think back about all the work you did on the mclaren, you will probably have this done in a few weeks, washed up even took it up two notches or more.nice find your persistents payed off.2022 is looking good.
You need a winch in each bay. Bolt a winch on the ground near the back wall so if you do have a disabled car you can just pull it in with a winch. Same with outside. Get a winch on a dolly that you can secure to a post or something outside. On a dolly so you can move it around.
I've owned a '65 since I was 15 in 1987 -- keep the visor poles. That's also the factory A/C unit under the dash.
Thank you for saving a piece of history it it such a clean car and for a steal.
dont cut them shock towers intell you get a front end that you can put the 5.0 into. Also you might consider getting a crate 351W that will fit with the shock towers. You can super charge it
Congratulations on scoring such a solid rebuild. I also have mustang as a dream car. 1969 mustang boss.
Love to see a motivated and excited Vtuned we are in for a sick 2022 can’t wait Brotha much love from GUAM
I'm also so exited about this car. Hoping that since it's in so minty condition you don't go splitting that one in half or cutting too much out from the original... so that the value doesn't drop.
the value tanked as soon as the fire started.
The body looks so good that I don't think cutting off the roof would be the best idea. maybe it can be straightened somehow?
maybe you are clueless. that roof is beyond reasonable repair.
Detroit Speed suspension front and back, coyote with a Tremic, and a complete TMI interior. Nice Pearl white with thinner dodge indigo blue stripes. 18 inch Thrust wheels. Would be perfect.
and it would be worth half of what he put into it.
dont dump that windscreen rubber if its in good condition !!!! great project !!
Vtuned you made me laugh when you said let's roll this window up cause we don't wanna mess up the interior lol ....Can't wait to see you awesome skillz on this one brotha..Niko from Arizona
Good thing you could literally buy every part for one of these from NPD. I used to drive past their buildings every weekday
Great company. Much better service than CJ Pony.
Those safety glasses, I thought you tossed them immediately after you found them in the box!
The insurance paid out $52K according to COPART Great Deal!
I would have it blasted just to see how original it was
and make way more work for himself?
You should use your fast back and make that thing a fast back its worth more money and you'll have the roof and all the parts..
Can't wait to see this Mustang finished 🔥
Make sure you do a 5-lug conversion and suspension upgrade. The 4-lug wheels indicates that it was originally a 6-cyl car with the 200 C.I.D. They upgraded to the V8 but didn't upgrade to 5-lug like most people do. The first gen mustangs have always been my favorite, can't wait to see where you take this one. You will have to put it up against Goonzquad's 67 Camaro when they get it finished.
They are worth quite a bit too , just checked around home here in Canada and a nice 1965 Stang is around $ 50 000. 00. you scored big time . Happy New year !

Pushing the car outside is sometimes easier than getting it back into the shop. I bought a cheap HF winch and mounted it to the floor at the back wall of my shop so I can pull cars inside all by myself.
