Those childhood cups are gorgeous and irreplaceable. I'm a minimalist and I would keep them too. They really are a beautiful keepsake. I could see you enjoying them with your grandchildren. What a beautiful memory to build on.
Good job on recognizing where to put sentimental items (your old cups) instead of letting them take up space in your kitchen. Keeping your sentimental items together will be useful for you and your family, because you'll be able to discern what you're keeping for practical use and what you're keeping due to sentimental attachment. Maybe you can move some of the children's cups that they don't like to use (e.g. the frozen cups, little boy Cars movie cups) with the sentimental things too, like you did for yourself. Congratulations once again. You have impressed me tremendously with this kitchen series. I'm so happy for you-- the decisions you're making showcase that you are definitely healing from hoarding in leaps and bounds.
As a relatively new subscriber I don’t think I’ve seen you have such a difficult time yet as with the cups (still watching). I wanted to say that it is beautiful to see you truly honour yourself, your needs and your comfort level. I’m sorry if people have called something special to you junky in the past. Thank you for showing me a window into hoarding disorder and for allowing us all to come along on your journey! You’re amazing!
I’ve watched several of your videos and I respect the way you put yourself out there and tell us what’s going on in your mind. I think about things differently, but listening and watching you helps me be more empathetic with people in my life who are different than me. You know your limits and work as well as you can within them-there’s a lot to be said for that!
September 2024. We raised 3 kids in a small house. You don't need 90 % of that stuff. Now, 3 of us live in a 2BR condo. No attic, garage, or shed. I'm still tossing, recycling, or giving away at least 25 items each day. Tina, Al's wife
I can't lay out things on the floor. I also get overwhelmed with every cabinet emptied at once. I'm impressed this doesn't cause anxiety for you and others. I do need to purge some of my teas. 😀👍🏻 I hear you on the childhood cups and drink glasses. One set I may put on marketplace. The odd singles are the most cherished. You did a great job on purging cups! 💕
Amazing. You have made a huge chance. I watch your videos for more then one year. And it's so nice to really see you and see you babysteps which are already huge🥰💪👍👍👍👍👍 best wishes from Judith
Then use the ones from the front and always put washed and folded ones in the the back. That way you can use and appreciate each and every single towel you own.
Do you have your own special mugs at work? If not, you could take a few from home to work. You also could use some of them for organizing like for pencils or brushes. Or even as a planter for small plants. You can also make your own candles and use a loved mug as a container for it.
Has everyone else noticed that the number is subscribers is going up so fast? 16.7 thousand people are being inspired by you Ms. Heart. Keep up the good work! You make it look fun 🤩
I just happened upon this channel and I’m loving it! THIS is the REALITY many of us are living with. I’ve been doing much better since I’ve accepted it’s a process and I’ll never be finished. Especially while my 4 children are young.
OMG I wish I could share a pic of my garfield mug!! 😆😆 I love how you talk through the emotional struggle and how feelings DO CHANGE over time. It’s so important not to get discouraged.
So nice!! Your kitchen has evolved into such a welcoming space! One suggestion for your pantry organizing: Instead of pushing everything into the one lower cupboard unit, where it is kind of awkward and hard to see, choose some upper-cabinet bottom-shelves to store your pantry items. Maybe keep some snacks down low for the kids, but switch the cake decorating and other non-everyday items into the old pantry space. I bet your back will thank you for it! And your tall hubby might get inspired cooking-wise, too! 🦄💜
Wonderfully done! You're simply amazing! My mother thinks you should write down the story about the wonderful meal as a reminder for many years down the road. Even the object can lose the story, but your own writing will most fully capture your precious memories (and also jump start your memoir and chronicles!) I like how you have sequestered your sentimental dishwear so they won't get broken or lost. We've started the other way, using only our sentimental dishes. But is crushes our hear everytime one of them breaks.
Wow, you've come so far since I last watched one of your videos! It's clear you've been working hard to overcome your hoarding. Your kitchen looks less cluttered than a lot of people's who aren't hoarders! And you're showing your face now! Nice work!!
You are fantastic! I found myself clapping for you as you showed your before and after. You don't have to get rid of anything but intentionality releasing items that aren't working for the life you want is freedom.
I guess this is going to be controversial, lol, but spices CAN get moldy depending upon the humidity levels, how they are stored, how they are packaged (bulk, bagged, or bottled), etc. So I wouldn't say they never go bad, as others have said. Also, watch out for some spice blends (Salad Supreme, for instance) that contain dairy/cheese ingredients, they can go bad, I had some that did. :)
It depends on each spice. I use nutmeg and chinese star that I've kept for years, not kidding. They are kept well sealed and always get cooked. I wouldn't feel ok eating those raw.
I sometimes get rid of “so called” expired spices even though I know I could probably still use them. It kind helps give myself permission to get rid of them because if I’ve have them for 2 or 3 years and the bottle is still not empty I am not going probably ever use them anyway.
I never knew there were spices with dairy in them. Interesting! Must be the spices I don't buy lol 😆 I usually go for the single ingredient spices with the exception of my Jamaican jerk spice and my Italian.
Fantastic! I put mugs etc away with my seasonal decor, so we get to use them all over the year. Makes it feel like you are using a new mug /cup when you bring it back out.
I did that with my Christmas mugs last year! I just put them in with my Christmas decor. I think I should do that with the other seasons too. Thanks for the idea!
I do that with the seasonal towels (autumn, Valentine, Christmas) as well. I was cheering when she got rid of them but was also saying "Put those in with your decorations!!"
I have seasonal mugs too. But just decided this month to keep out the two Irish mugs instead of hiding away for 11 months out of the year. I may decide to declutter them after using and/or repurpose any other mugs. I am expecting my favorite well used EVERY DAY mug to crack very soon.
That was a MONSTER of a tossy-tossy pile! It just goes to show you how much we don’t use in our kitchens day-to-day, and how much the things in our cupboards can get in the way of the stuff we do actually use. Great job!!
That’s great video. I think you can declutter more cups and towels. The more dishes you have the more you will wash. I have four children and I only have two cups per child. You can fold your towels Konmari stye to gain more space in your drawer and to easily see your towels.
Just a little tip: 'best by' does not mean it expires at that date. Herbs and spices actually don't expire, they just lose their taste after a couple of years. Well done once again! 👏🏻
@@littlemouse9900 Yeah, I always just try how they taste and sometimes they are still fine after years 😊 Other times they smell a bit stale and don't taste like much. But either way they're not health hazards 🧂
Also, this goes for a LOT of dry packaged foods, canned food and food in jars. Use eyes, nose and mouth and you will never get food poisoning again (with these food types).
Often spices get used with cooking raw meat, even if spices last forever, the bacteria in and around the container from dirty hands, it's just better off to replace things every year or so.
The giving page is wonderful. Now we are seniors seniors without children or having to pack lunches I can just use a few glass containers. The men are allowed three mugs, I just have one. All are stowed on the coffee/tea cart.
"there's no need to repurchase these things if they're already functioning well". Yes!!!! Just one of the many reasons why I love your channel and your amazing positivity!
Well done hun maybe with water bottle and cups that are seasonal put them in the season bin so that not out all year but u know u have them for kids to use when the time is right 🥰 same with towels or anything else that matches a Season 🥰
The Funshine Bear glass and plastic dishes from the 80's hit me STRAIGHT in my childhood! I still have the full set of Care Bear glasses from Pizza Hut and a couple Strawberry Shortcake plastic pieces. 💗
You did phenomenal work today! I love all of those sentimental pieces you were keeping from your childhood, they are all so adorable and you made an awesome decision on what to do with them :-)
Great job! Every pass is more freeing than the last. This week I gave my daughter all my canning equipment and I'm not even sorry. Shocking but true. Just. Emptied. The. Closet.
Another great progress video! Like others I suspect, I'd love to come and help and encourage you. I try to turn that back around on myself and when I am going through a pile imagine what someone would say to me - like with the box of t-shirts I found in the attic last week. I think someone might say "is that still wearable?" "do you feel good in it?" "do you have room for it, or would you "tossy tossy" to make room for it?" etc. I think that I would like being able to talk to someone while I make decisions, so I just use my imagination. I'm glad you're brave and dedicated to do it on video!!
The plastic cups and water bottles of the kids, could you keep say 3 for each of them, like 3 drinking glasses and 3 water bottles each, and quarantine the rest to see what is really needed in the cupboard(will free up some space) Like Dawn the minimal mom says see what you feel in say 6 months and if you decide you need them great if not I’m sure other little ones would love them😃 just a thought🤷🏻♀️😃
You have come a long way! The journey is still on...looking forward to the decluttering of the 2 not built in cupboards. I love your positivity and honesty, your life, your decisions.
I feel the sentiment. I have kept a sippy cup of my daughter's for 17 years and still can't get rid of it. Also, am incredibly proud of you too. You inspire me everyday! Happy to have found your channel. Removing the stigma behind hoarding, I've been learning so much about myself watching you.
Girl, so awesome!!!!!! 💜👍💜👍💜👍💜 I understand about the cups, I have that issue with other things but maybe like you said maybe you can put more of them in a bin especially if you are not using them. That will make more room in your cabinets and you can always revisit the them later. 💜
You did great! I have a suggestion. Put the small appliances and Crockpot in that corner cabinet on the Lazy Susan. I have mine there and I must say it works great in our house.
I buy a lot of spices from bulk bins & refill my containers. So I know the expiry dates are not accurate in the least. But I do use the spices as I cook 98% of the time from scratch. So if I know I rarely use lemon pepper, I just buy a smaller quantity to keep it fresher. I did go get rid of a few spices I never touch last year though. But I do legit have a few things that are 20+ years old...alum powder & cream of tartar. No idea why we have them, I suspect we made play dough with the alum powder. Perhaps put some of the boys cups in a sentimental bin? Ask the boys what cups they want to use now and store the others.
Omg I'm so proud of you! Letting go of sentimental items? How freaking cool is that! Having been watching your journey for a while now I can definitely see your progress and that makes me so happy.
Yay a video!! I actually just reorganized my own mugs... Edit: what do you think about folding the towels konmari style in that drawer? It's what I do for mine...
@@Judy-fw7fl lol! I have more than three.,.. but less than 300 ;) I’m whittling down. Each time I use one and it doesn’t dry dishes well enough then off it goes. Let’s not discuss the hand towels with the crochet tabs and buttons though. I have a stack of Grans still... I’m training myself to change them more frequently to test them all lol... a couple kept getting caught in the drawer under the oven... off they went too!
@@julsmorgan78 I recently decluttered down to 6 dishtowels and 10 microfibre cloth to wipe down counters. works perfect for my household ^^ But we are only 2 adults so... yeah. that probably plays a role too...
Wow another amazing job well done Miss Heart ❤️ Great pile leaving the house and as always thinking of others. Your brilliant. Stay safe and healthy. Mary, Joes wife 👏👍💐🦄🤩💪🙏
So awesome again! You are powering through now! It’s amazing. Maybe the boys baby cups and sippy cups could go in their sentimental bind as well? More room in the cupboards and you get to keep them in a sentimental space since they’re not being used! ❤️
What if you let the boys go through their cups and choose which they want to keep or get rid of? Then if you have one or two favs they want to get rid of those could go in sentimental instead. If the boys don’t use them they don’t belong in the kitchen
This is a fantastic idea! :) I grew up with a hoarder, and she would constantly go through my garbage/donate piles, and take stuff she decided was "useful" and hide it somewhere in the house. It wasn't serving anyone a purpose. Decades later she's been letting us help her clean and organizing, and I'm finding things I threw out decades prior... still garbage/donate. I think it's super important for A Hoarder's Heart to include her kids in the decisions of their own stuff. My Mum's bad habits of hoarding passed onto my sister; she never let her make her own decisions about what sparked joy for herself. I went the other direction, in that I throw away/donate/giveaway things without much thought, and that isn't always good either.
my sister and I are in our 30s and our mom still has about 10 of our "junky" childhood plates and cups. keep what you love in an amount that makes your home comfortable and workable :D
Ahh, that "Tender Loving Bear" mug is still my childhood favorite -- I use it every time I visit my parents. That and a Morris the Cat mug. Anyone remember Morris? 😄
Thank you for bringing up the distinction between hoarding and squalor - in all of the psych classes I've taken for my degree, this hasn't yet come up, so thank you for teaching me about this and setting me onto something more to learn about :)
I love this Chanel I love how you have improved, I never thought that I have any of your disorders but hearing you talk I do a lot of thing that you do🙈 but with the disadvantage that my house is very small so any mess it show
Great job! When I first stared watching your channel you were only able to let go of 1/4 of the things that you can now let go of. I think that you knowing where the most important items are and that they are safe really helps you.
So proud of you! I'm glad you've found a way that works for you. Taking everything out at once is overwhelming to me. I do one box, one drawer, one cabinet at a time. I can handle that. Congrats on your progress and your healing!
Its so funny, I might have to go back to your beginning videos and start over. When I 1st started watching you I was stronger at decluttering but my anxiety has somehow crawledback in and I get easily over whelmed. I was getting over whelmed watching how many cupboards you do at once! And Idk y. But I'm so proud of you and how far you've come. Hopefully I'll get back to that spot again.
Just found your channel and I have to say that I am really impressed. It is hard to change things but you are doing really well from what I can see ^^. May I ask what German Dish it was? Maybe one could find the recipe and you could make it yourself and remember her this way.
Letting go of one kids cup is an achievement of itself. Well done. I am so proud of you. Inspired me to attack my tupperware as I have a few lids with no containers
Wow that looks so amazing and I’m so pleased you are putting your sentimental items together and safely stored. That way you know where they are and they can’t get accidentally broken x😁😁

If my husband sees your video he is going to make me decluter. I have No basement, so alot is going to go bye bye. 🤣🤔🤫🤐🙃😉
Good job on the kitchen. I actually made my husbands birthday cake from cake mix which expired in 2017 it was still good. I also used frosting which had expired a few years ago but was still good. Dry goods and sugar doesn't really expire.

I was just going to suggest that!! I did it in my drawer & it saved so much space as well as letting me see what was there.
Me too! And I put the clean ones at the back each time that way they all get used in turn and not just the front couple over and over :)
@@julsmorgan78 I only have so little, that I need to wash mine all at once anyway ^^ But great idea!
It amazes me gphow much we can fit in our cabinets, lol. Great job decluttering.
Wow another amazing job well done Miss Heart ❤️ Great pile leaving the house and as always thinking of others. Your brilliant. Stay safe and healthy. Mary, Joes wife 👏👍💐🦄🤩💪🙏
Fantastic job! So proud of you! My husband uses those same plastic character cups. We have probably 20, and use them all. (And we have no kids!)
Ms. ♥️
You are doing such amazing video’s. Them tossy tossy piles are growing larger and larger.
So exciting. 🥰
Great idea!
The kids will get rid of lots of stuff. Let them. Tina
Awesome idea. 😁
I went the other direction, in that I throw away/donate/giveaway things without much thought, and that isn't always good either.
i realize Im kind of off topic but does anybody know of a good site to stream new movies online ?
my sister and I are in our 30s and our mom still has about 10 of our "junky" childhood plates and cups. keep what you love in an amount that makes your home comfortable and workable :D
I love this just found you. Thank you for being open and sharing.
Look at you! You've come so far! The kitchen is looking so good 👍
Thank you so much my beautiful friend 🙏🏻🦄💜🌟
Ahh, that "Tender Loving Bear" mug is still my childhood favorite -- I use it every time I visit my parents. That and a Morris the Cat mug. Anyone remember Morris? 😄
You make me so happy!
Fantastic job again..well done...glad you kept your sentimental mugs/cups
Thank you for bringing up the distinction between hoarding and squalor - in all of the psych classes I've taken for my degree, this hasn't yet come up, so thank you for teaching me about this and setting me onto something more to learn about :)
You have become one of my favorite channels. You're fun 😃💛💜❤
Loved this video, great job Ms. Heart! ❤
Hello from Germany, hi miss Heart, you Rock the kitchen, Looks nice, be safe, Happy Easter
Great job! You're decluttering muscles are definitely getting stronger and you're inspiring me to get rid of some junk I've been storing for years.
So so proud of you!!! Great job!
I love this Chanel I love how you have improved, I never thought that I have any of your disorders but hearing you talk I do a lot of thing that you do🙈 but with the disadvantage that my house is very small so any mess it show
I found it very helpful to have my kid help my declutter cups. I never could've guessed the favorite cup was a plastic coffee mug🤦♀️
Such a great Declutter ❤️❤️ you’re doing so well! The contact paper totally changed the cupboards. 👏
I have the same name as your German colleague ❤ I'm from the Netherlands and love to watch your videos; so inspirational!💋
Another wonderful job! It will get easier to let go of more as you revisit each room. You'll continue to be amazed!!
Letting go of one kids cup is an achievement of itself. Well done. I am so proud of you. Inspired me to attack my tupperware as I have a few lids with no containers
I doing that too! Great job you go girl!!
You’re making great progress. Well done.
Thank you 🦄💜🌟
Wow that looks so amazing and I’m so pleased you are putting your sentimental items together and safely stored. That way you know where they are and they can’t get accidentally broken x😁😁
You have been doing a great job. I have followed you for quite a while and I see the improvements. Keep it going
You are killing it every decluttering episode. Looks great!!!
Your cupboards look sooooo much better! I love the before and afters. 💕
Girl how Blessed you are. I saw your Stawabberry Shortcake bowl. ¡ ¡ WoW ! ! I hope you are Blessed with a Princess that you can share those wonderful momentous with.
You doing so Wonderful. I have a smaller kitchen like about half the size. You are definitely doing Great. I have 4/5 of what you have. So, I don't have it all in my kitchen.
U did such a great job Miss Heart! I really love how u explain your thoughts when u r decluttering.
Dry goods usually don’t spoil in the same way as meat and chicken do, I’m always careful with those but not dry goods like spices, flour etc.
I think your so amazing, the amount of progress you’ve made is sensational. I totally would have kept those cups from childhood too.
Girl, you amazed me again!
You have so much more space now! Amazing work ❤️
You are doing so great!
I roll up towels into sausage shapes in the kitchen and bathroom. Works for me
Once again, great job!
