Egg decides not to use the two 6s on Two Handed Sword to do 12 damage, and instead turns them into 2s so he can do 3 damage twice.
Do not question the egg math. Your blood pressure will kill you long before nl will notice his mistake.
He's also done a ton of splitting ones instead of bumping a five into a six and splitting that into two threes. I get that sometimes as the thief you want low rolls, but he then uses them in slots that could've benefited from a three.
@@Szanth it doesnt always split a 6 into 2 threes, it can be 5 and 1 or 4 and 2 aswell, so that was fine

he makes this mistake a few times, I was sat there going... "JUST USE THE 3!" it was frustrating but it's the egg so I've kinda come to expect it xD
The egg does that so much. Could duplicate the 6s and deal 12 damage? Ooooorrrrrr.... could duplicate the 6s, turn them into 2s and deal 6 damage!
He just gets a little bit of tunnel vision.
He was able to make a build that was neat and worked well, which overall is all that really mattered in this run. but small mistakes like this will certainly cost him many runs in the future.and we will all be screaming at our sceens collectively.

Puts in 2 twos, item says "Sets all dice to 2", sets all dice to 4 instead. Seems like a bug to me (seems like it added the twos together and set all dice to that value)
It definitely did. It turned his twos into fours even though it said "set all dice values to 2" rip the run of a century

The last mistake with the 4s was actually a bug, since the game says "Set all dice to 2"and not "Set all dice to [ ]"

I was just thinking the same thing. Seemed like a bug when he put 2 2's in and the description says "change all dice to 2" and got all 4's even though that's not how it works in the first place
Yeah it seems completely fucked, which is funny because NL immediately assumed it was his fuckup.
idk it seems like at 38mins in it should have turned all his dice into 2's instead of 4's. Once he had the two 2's in there it even said 'set all dice to 2' and then proceeded to turn all his dice into 4's.... There was no indication in the description that it would add the 2's and make 4's....

You played super well for a portion of this episode. The skeleton key pickup was an unexpected stroke of brilliance. You saw that it'd work, I thought it'd be bad. Upgraded it was unreal.
Not your fault on the last fight. It said "Two twos and set all dice to 2", and yet all your dice got set to 4
"two handed sword is really good if you want to do 12 damage, but you know, we can do 12 damage with four 2s"
So, NL, what happens if you turn your 12 damage into two 2s, bearing in mind that 2

yeah, the wording is the same syntax as every other form skeleton key, but has a different result
I think it was a bug because it read the 4 that was lowered to a 2 as the previous value, four
Fight #2: "we need an odd die to get 3 shield, we have an un-split 1 and a 3. Let's not think about this too much and use the 3 to get the shield." Never change, NL
I think you undervalue poison, it's similar to Slay the Spire, 3 poison is actually 6 damage just over 3 turns. Even on turn 2 it's 5 damage which is more than just putting three 1's into dagger.
Upgraded dagger is different obviously but you get the point. Detonator makes poison really good too even with just an upgraded poison needle.
Good play either way.
He knows how it works. He even says the equation outloud in this video while thinking about how much damage it would deal. (N(N+1))/2 so he knows
I didn't say he didn't know how it worked, I was just reinforcing the fact of why it's good. I watched his live stream of this game and this run and both times he's undersold the value of poison.
@@robbie8407 he might under value poison, but I also wonder if the thiefs boss is always muscle girl. Or at least always her for that quest or module or whatever it's called. I mean he got her on the stream and in this run. She seems a good counter to poison.

Both Super Hexagon and VVVVVV are on mobile - there's definitely a possibility!
18:00 I like how Ryan knows the formula for series summation by heart, but needs to double check 5 x 2 = 10.
lol, the poison doesn't even adhere to that in my game. It damages for the highest its been, within that application period, every turn until gone. So stacking to 5, gets 25 damage, instead of 15. It makes you think twice about adding more poison if you didn't for a turn or two.
Adding 2 poison after its dropped to one, makes the new damage per turn, three. Ya see. Pretty cool I think.

Dang, the Skeleton Key- description was staight-up wrong. It turned all your dice into four when it specifically stated it would turn them into two. 100% not your fault, and probably a bug.
I think it's the best Skeleton Key strat I've ever seen. Excellent.

I was impressed with NL's math skills until he had to sit and think about whether 3 was greater than 1
I mean, applying poison 3 times seems like it's objectively better in most situations than doing raw damage; at least without an upgraded Dagger.
I would like to get on my soapbox and say "End the splitting and duplicating of 1s!" Honestly you are getting one extra damage out of doing so...it's usually not gonna make much difference. I keep hearing: "as a thief you want 1s" no you can use 1s as the thief more efficiently than other classes but you want 3s because...and hear me out here: 3s are 3x bigger than 1s and even 2s are twice as big as 1s in dagger and it makes a big difference!
Game seems exactly like the sort of thing I want. Art isn't my thing but mechanically it's beautiful.

The slots only do what they say they do.
If it says, applys poison it will only add poison, not deal poison damage and add to poison count
Yeah you only lost on one damage, but but you've done the same with other equipment regarding them as trash
Poison right now also deals one more damage than the counter on every turn.
I love the face cam, it has made every NL misplays and seeing his reaction 69x better and makes me laugh everytime
Egg, when it says Odd, just throw a 1 there. On that early Magician fight, you lost out of Turn 1 damage by throwing the 3 into the shield and throwing 1s into dagger when you could have thrown the 1 into shield and your 3 deals 2 more dagger damage.
Oh man, and the bad math plays of not using sixes for attack, instead transforming it into a 3 to deal 4 damage instead of 6. Eggggggggg
In the second episode and you already can see people criticize every non perfect play that NL does, great job guys. I really hope that this don't become Sekiro 2.0

@@landon8952 well, people were very mad at NL for not playing the game in the best way possible and so they started to harass him to a level that made NL not want to play the game anymore

For anyone wondering if they had seen this before, the one previously uploaded was a twitch VOD and this is a specifically recorded ep. Presumably, NL uploaded the wrong file, unsure about that tho.
31:10 that painful moment when NL decides that 6 damage is a better option than 12, the number of times NL choses to chuck dice into daggers and completely ignore the much better option being provided to him from the enemy hurts. on another note, for the love of god NL, you dont have to start with skeleton key, you can use those high damage dice before you buff the rest of them you are legitimately only hindering yourself with that.
Alright, so I'd need to go back and track it, but remember the 4 you cut the value in two of against the final boss fight?
I think you put *that* two into the skeleton key, which made them all into 4s which... I didn't know that was a thing, I don't think anyone did, allow me to go and check!
OK! tracking done, you duplicated the 4 that became a two, and then put both of the duplicated blocks into the skeleton key, I think THAT'S what happened, since skeleton key is supposed to set things to the dice put in, and that block was technically a 4 that was halved.... a very strange interaction, to say the least, not one you could have expected. Despite all the other mistakes you make, that one isn't on you, that's for sure.
I'm 99% sure that's a bug. In other situations on a certain other character, there are multiple equips that say "split the value in half", and none interact like that. It seems to me that the game for some reason tracked the two's as four's still, which is really really weird.
@@314Marvin What I find weird about it if true is that it is referencing the value of the die itself to inform what each dice should be set to when the weakened version is specifically statically defined to set all dice to 2. Like I get how it could happen - you're basically mimicking the behavior of the original version of the equipment by doing so. Just that in this instance not hard coding it seems to have introduced a bug due to an unintended side effect of another interaction.

Yeah that's a bug,
But it was still a misplay,
Just in a different way.
Doesn't poison do more damage as it stacks up? 3 damage first turn, lose one, 5 damage next turn, lose one, 7 damage next turn etc. If you spend 3x 1 dice each turn, the stacks should go up fast, and you'll do a ton of damage - and the rest can go to dagger.
Crowbar + tons of peashooters = great.

Why did NL think upgrading Skeleton Key would give him an extra dice? He was already going to use his duplicate every turn anyway, so he could just use it on the one he wants to put into Skeleton Key. Zero value upgrade. Classic.
