How I graded the FP. • Colorgrading the Sigma...
Dear Ghosts,
Experimenting with a few things this video. Higher audio levels and more compression, different lighting, implementing more HDR. The reason I got this camera is because i wanted to have a new camera for my trip to Thailand. I was pleasantly surprised.
*I received a comment so i want to clarify that this camera has anamorphic mode and desqueeze in the directors viewfinder, but you cannot record at the higher codecs like CDNG.
Overall I prefer the video image quality over Fujifilm and I think it has narrative work potential. Fujifilm performs better in the day with highlight rolloff feeling better. Sigma better at night with great shadow roll off. It has a more slick, edgy vibe you’ll see from the David Fincher (red) look. When I upgrade cameras, I might still use the sigma just because of the incredible low light performance. It looks insanely good in low light with minimal noise and color shifting even at -3 EV, much better than Sony, which has pretty yucky noise pattern. This is hands down one of the best low light camera and will absolute crush nighttime and indoor scenes and could be a staple in your arsenal. But the problem is that highlight roll off feels pretty bad with this camera. If you clip shadows, the noise reduction also behaves erratically. It’s also made me appreciate the xh2s more especially as a macro camera. According to my Discord server, the photos from the Fujifilm and sigma look similar, maybe because I have the original files. I think they look quite different but that is up to you to decide. If you want more BTS for this video you can join here: / discord
Stay tuned, another new camera on the horizon…
Spend wisely.

Incredible commentary on this camera, and incredible looking footage. Thank you!! I now want one.
Bizarrely underrated camera. I’ve owned one since day one and nothing compares to its colour science. I like your review.
Reportedly more accurate than a Sony Venice
That tuk-tuk scene in the rain is incredible!
Well done!
That was a hard shot to get. Lots of tuktuk footage lost…
The cinematography in this video is outstanding! Very well done!
Hah! Mostly glorified vlog
Perhaps the best review of the fp yet. Thank you!

I'm sold! Amazing video visually! Looking forward to more content from you
this review is so relaxing and vibey. i love it. great work!
The BEST and most accurate and so CINEMATIC just so beautiful review I have ever saw of the Sigma FP. More like a homage to the camera. Great work.
Thank you for sharing, Those FP colors are just amazing! I have a sigma FP so I totally understand you. It reminds me of the colors from the original pocket and micro BM. Which I loved. No other camera (BMPCC4K, S5, A7S3, H2S) gives me these colors, and this look.
Those that can see it will just know, for those that compare it to mirrorless cameras, bless thy summer's child.
wow, what a well put together video. I definitely want one now!
oh wow I never expected a feature from you about the fp, one of the most special and underrated cameras I ever owned. I used it for photo mainly, and the colors I got out of it were some of the best I've ever seen, especially with the flat (or natural?) and teal & orange color profiles. I think the fp line has an incredible potential (being kinda like a beta test so far), and with Sigma looking like the most progressive and inventive Japanese camera makers, I'm super excited for their new releases. and beautiful video again of course, as usual.
I also stick with natural. I find the other profiles really do weird things to skintones. I think the teal one has potential tho. To me, sigma feels like what blackmagic was 5-10 years, now they are far too complacent. The accurate colors are soooo great for video
Beautiful work, amazing script and stunning cinematography! - you're really making want to pick up this camera....
Thanks Ed, if you have the money to spare, I have no doubt you’d have a blast with this camera
Hey this is just a theory based on things that I’ve read but I wanted to get your take on it.
It seems like the FP has the same sensor as the lumix S5 and S1H. I believe it actually has the same dynamic range of around 12-12.5 stops but you need to expose/shoot correctly.
My theory is that since you can shoot in raw you should be able to shoot at 800 ISO (as you said in the video) or even 1600 ISO and this will give allow more dynamic range to be in the highlights. I think that with ISO 100 there’s tons of dynamic range in the shadows. This would explain why you can underexpose so much and still pull back a clean image in the grade. By pushing up the ISO you’re still underexposing but just pulling the image back up in camera while pushing more latitude back into the highlights.
Great video! Also check out the dark power lab ssd holder as it gets rid of the cables and is a super sleek accessory for the FP!
Cheers!
@dukebozikowski3801 from what I’ve gathered and heard from many others, the sigma FP likely uses the same sensor as a7c a7iii and Lumix cameras you mentioned, the imx410. The difference is the sigma shifts the middle grey point to have more usable stops in the shadows as opposed to highlights. Yes at 800 iso there is comparable usable dynamic range as those cameras as the noise performance is very good on the FP. The problem is the dynamic range is actually limited by data, with 4k 12bit cdng already around 2600Mb/s so although the sensor is capable of the dynamic range you mentioned, it cannot record it on camera so you have to get the data back in post. This makes it very difficult to calculate unless you measure photographic dynamic range, which is only slightly less than the big players now from Nikon Sony etc using linear. So yes, the usable dynamic range performs on par, I felt it was safer to undersell the base dynamic range as that is ultimately what the camera and monitors would see. As for the DPL, I have two of them! Fantastic convenience, however beeping is audible in scratch audio.
6:36 this shot is like from a hollywood movie! The depth of colors oh men...
Camera is not afraid of the dark
Beautiful visuals as always
Great video. I just got an anamorphic L-mount lens for mine.
What an incredible review. I received my Sigma FP today. Can't wait to use it when I go to Japan in 3 weeks.
Ahh Japan was one of my most photogenic visits, you’ll have great shots. Be wary of fluorescents and neon lights, take a few extra pics just in case
nice nice summary of this camera !
This is freakin FANTASTIC! one of my favorite fp videos yet! the only thing I would mention is that EL zone needs to be shot in 12bit, and when it is it works properly and when using EL zone or false color, you actually get a little more DR than the previously measured 11 stops. The LCD is deceiving, but if you expose in 12bit with EL zone or even false color, you should be able to save more in post.
great job! would love to see more!
Yeah I noticed that so I just rely on false color. The 11 stops are for 100 iso but the dynamic range feels much better at 800. If I were to use a monitor I’d use EL zone more but clipping is a bigger priority. I’ll give it another shot. Hope to shoot more creative projects with it when I get the time
@@cleverghostchili regardless, beautiful shots and great video. I love having more people get the most of this little camera! When I started shooting with the FP there was almost nothing out there, and so seeing people do great work with it makes me happy ❤️
just generate a LUT that boosts exposure by 2 stops so you can better gauge levels in post. @@cleverghostchili

This is a work of art.
Can you explain this in more detail?
Lovely video, thank you. Great points well made. I did buy an SP to work alongside my BMPCC4K but found the functionality and highlights too sketchy for professional work. I sent it back. But I think I'd give it a go again - for the right price - because when I see well graded shots from the FP there is as you say a depth to the image that draws you in - to my eyes anyway. VERY excited to see a new foveon sensor cine camera, but frankly not holding my breath after years of waiting.
Same with fujifilm. Many promises. Still waiting. Patiently....
Good stuff. I'm a Blackmagic user and have been considering picking up an FP for a long time now. Think I might have to make the purchase!

Gorgeous!
The imagery is absolutely stunning! The small factor sounds incredibly exciting! All the rest of the workflow seems like a lot of pain unfortently... maybe too much.
Where did you find it in these prices you mentioned?
It’s actually not that bad for some of the more experienced graders. Raw is arguably a bigger time saver, great flexibility. I bought mine 1200 on aliexpress (Chinese marketplace Taobao) but Ive seen them used on eBay for 850. I’d even be willing to pay retail for this camera, Amazon around 1500, you can see that in my affiliate link if that is convenient for you

Congratulartions, that was an outstanding video! I recently got mine and so far it has overcome my expectantions. The only thing I haven't quite figured out yet is the skin tones while taking photos. It seems to me that most profiles the camera offers are too contrasty (not an issue really) and with reds shifting towards magenta. Maybe neutral is the most accurate in that regard. What's your go to profile when it comes to color accuracy/sikin tones? Do you stick with any profile in particular while developing in any photo editing software? Ideally I would edit my stills in davinci resolve for max flexibility but it seems like to cumbersome of a solution. If you have any tips I would a appreciate it a lot, thank you!
I stick mine on neutral. Otherwise occasionally i will try off, monochrome and teal. I also find skin tones to behave weirdly due to color profiles. Photo editing in resolve is quite meta! I know some people that do that but i just use capture one. I have a tutorial if you wanna see skintone adjustment in davinci resolve
@@cleverghostchili Literally just watched it right after that coment lol, the algorithym did show me earlier. I agree, ‘off’ is interesting in some occasions. Capture one deffinetly manage FP’s color better than other softwares. Thanks for the feedback, this camera for sure is an underappreciated gem!
GXACE style video, I like it.
You might like my newest video as well
This was a great overview of the camera. It isn't for everyone but nobody can argue about the importance of image quality. I have this camera with Zeiss lenses also and honestly the visuals are fantastic. It's been a good while since I owned a DSLR's which shoot RAW CDNG files. There is so much to like about this camera and Sigma have a beautiful colour profile in most of their cameras It's just that the marketing outside of Japan isn't as great. They being said, quality over popularity any day. I've subbed and lool forward to more of your content
It’s kinda cool that it’s under the radar, also makes the camera unbelievably affordable. Japan makes some incredible products, there’s the feeling that they often leave the best things for themselves and this camera feels like one of them
Which Zeiss lenses do you use??
Zeiss Otus 28 and 55mm. can check in description and credits of the video as well@@johanness6545
I like how the video images look even when focus is very soft. As long as something in the frames is sharp, we're good to go!
I like the qualities of missing focus in the same way someone may like grain or chromatic aberration, we'll see if it becomes more widely accepted
Have this one since 1 year. Nothing comes close! The second closest competitor is the Red Komodo. I also urge you to shoot at ISO 800 during the day, can have over 13 stops of DR with 6.5 stops in the highlights! Also, get the Ninja recorder, and use the el zone. I gurantee that you will love the camera 10x more as the Ninja lets you see almost all of the dynamic range on the monitor.
Yep, shot 800 iso for 80% of the shots. That sounds like a great combo as I only use false color because I need to check for clipping and the lcd whites out too early. I also really want a small HD. Decisions….
Which Ninja recorder do you recommend?
You can safly go up +1.7 without clipping whites. ISO 800 is the best friend for better DR in Sigma FP. If it has solid 13-15 stops of Dynamic Range and better sensor readout speeds the camera would be alien technology for the price!
@@cleverghostchili yes, the back Lcd cannot be trusted. False colors are accurate, but only in 10 bit. So, an external monitor having El zone helps.
Great video man. What lens are you pairing with the sigma fp? Love the look.
Zeiss Otus lenses. Can find it in the description and credits as well

I’m a Fujifilm X-T4 user looking to upgrade. I was looking to grab the X-H2s but also found the Sigma Fp and this video. I’m thinking I’ll stick with the X-H2s even though this camera is super tempting. Thanks for the video!
Xh2s very nice colors. Fuji finally giving the xh2s some updates, though still no false color or flog2 support in davinci resolve. Xs20 also good alternative
@@cleverghostchili you know, I’ve never even considered the X-S20. Just checked the specs and wow that is super tempting for the price. Now I’m torn
@@ValleyVagrant comes down to if you need the stacked sensor for burst shooting for rolling shutter/sensor readout. Xs20 better value, spend wisely
@@cleverghostchili xs20 or sigma fp?
This is like asking if you should buy a toyota or pickup truck, very different use cases dependent on what you shoot. If you already have an xt4, i dont see as many upgrades for the xs20, you mainly have flog2 and some film sims. Sigma FP is a completely different animal, its full frame so you need new glass and the workflow is very cumbersome but visually very rewarding. For video I'd still suggest the sigma FP, but be prepared for a learning curve and large file sizes and some rigging. @@maniratnamcreator
Wow nice job dude
I’m not good at receiving compliments 😭
My top two priorities before buying this camera was form factor and data specs. I don't like big rigs and do like color grading. I'm a computer guy first then videographer. I'm a mostly solo hobbyist that uses this for narrative and low-light run and gun. That enjoys sitting at a workstation for long periods of time. I come from Fuji and Canon worlds originally. And the huge kicker, it's LMount. So big lens purchases will work on bm6k ff and panasonics. Which are both also video monsters.
It’s the best time to buy a camera, they’re all great. It’s more about which workflow suits you best and I have no problems with cdng if it gives me files like these
Is it possible that you could share some of these clips, grading the sigma clips are always a joy for me
Ofc, I just need to find a way to transfer the huge files 😭. I can try to send it to you over discord just let me know if there’s a particular clip you want

Amazing video. Loved the background music. Just wanted to ask Sigma FP or S5IIX purely based on image quality?
FP
@@cleverghostchilithanks for the reply.
Just expose to not clip your highlights at 100 or 3200 ISO. You can see on the screen without false colour. I've never had a dynamic range problem working with the camera this way. 11 stops is huge. I grew up in the days of film being king, when digital was still way worse. We used to think film had huge dynamic range. 200 ISO colour film has about 7 stops of range. Slide film just 5 stops. This didn't stop anybody making amazing images for decades before digital cameras outpaced them. In the analog days the rule of thumb was always "expose for the highlights, print (dark room) for the shadows". With this in mind I'm always thinking "no matter what I'm going to not blow any highlights". With 11 stops range I can easily push the exposure up 3-4, even 5 stops in Resolve and it still looks beautiful, even with bright light behind a subject, or even the sun in the sky. Using ISOs other than 100 or 3200 on the FP is just showing you an 8 bit preview of what this (extra exposure) might look like later, except it fucks up your ability to judge highlight exposure.
Another amazing thing to consider about the FP is that the colours can capture a full Rec.2020 colour space. This is on par with a 50k Sony Venice. Granted, colour management in Resolve takes a lot of reading and experimenting to get right.
Great nuggets of knowledge. Totally agree, in controlled lighting situations even 5 stops of DR is enough, take ektachrome for example. But this is still a digital sensor and apples should be compared to apples. The LCD actually doesn’t accurately represent highlight clipping and actually changes based on ISO but being such a small camera which will inevitable be used in run and gun / everyday usage, it seems practical to evaluate this camera in the settings it should be used for. It struggles on overcast days and will break on sunny days as you can see from the footage. 11 stops is indeed mostly enough. And as for the color science, agree, extremely accurate
I’m still planning to buy this camera
Time to roll out the affiliate links

No one asked, but Blackmagic and Lumix have similar image philosophy, sigma will feel very different, though much more of a pain to use
@@cleverghostchili do tell how different

The pocket is less convenient to use, but if you like film emulation it has a very unique special quality. I think the FP also is very unique and can also do film emulation in 1080p but I like the cleaner images. Pocket more filmic, less contrast, FP more slick visuals. FP better package overall

Nice video! In your video you mentioned the camera has anamorphic. Please explain? The fp does not have any anamorphic desqueeze capability. As far as I know, you can, create custom frame guides by adjusting the aspect ratio, but anamorphic desqueeze, no. This would require an external monitor with that functionality. Also, Samsung t5’s are discontinued, harder and harder to find, and expensive.
Hi, i realize it in hindsight to be misleading, when i mentioned anamorphic i meant in the directors viewfinder you have many desqueeze options 16:9 /open gate 1.25 1.3 1.5 1.65 1.8 2x desqueeze and you can still record but just not 12bit or raw, so i suppose that may defeat the purpose. Yes at first i used samsung t5s, t7s should work as well, but now I use DPL 2tb SSD which is very convenient although the scratch audio picks up beeping noises
@@cleverghostchili Thanks! I wish it had anamorphic desqueeze. I am also using a T7, and it seems to be working very well. A year ago, I initially ordered the T5 off amazon, when the prices were lower, but they sent me a T7. They need to fix monitoring which isn't accurate as you change iso.
edit - also I'm not sure if Cined is tottaly correct for the DR, there was a blog a while ago talking about P3-D60 giving extra dynamic range and the issue with the fp being that files are not correctly unpacked when using Bm colour space.
agree, the test was also performed at 100 iso, which has less DR than at 800. it's hard to objectively calculate how much DR you get with BM colorspace, but it probably falls within 12-13 usable stops

3:55 oh come on man that is the chart from the sigma fp (L) with a total differenct sensor. The dynamic range of the 24mp Sigma FP (which you obviously haven't tested) is pretty great and as good as other cameras with the same sensor.
Yeah the dr test which was performed by cined is also at 100 iso, which is much less than at 800. Here’s a similar result www.cined.com/sigma-fp-camera-first-impression-sample-footage-and-lab-test-results/

Hi, I chose sony a7 iv a few months ago and 2 expensive GM luminous lenses .. because everyone on the internet said it was the best .. when I started shooting videos .. I realized that I didn't love the image produced by sony so much but I was looking for something more organic, even if imperfect .. in the end the most natural choices for a mirrorless currently are lumix S5 ii (x), fuji h2s .. and now I see this sigma FP .. small and magical .. I am interested in making images for personal projects (videos mainly and some photos).. I am a creative director and commercial director .. but in case of paid jobs we rent Always the equipment so I'm not looking for a way to work.. actually the lumix doesn't convince me so much.. I don't know why,.. my eyes keep going on fuji h2s.. do you have any advice? Do you also have any advice on an equivalent 35mm lens? On fuji I saw that there is the 23mm 1.4 which has a modern autofocus, but I would also like to have a nice small cine lens for every day.. :) hope u can reply me! Byeeee! :)
Hi, Xh2s produces a sharp image, could excel for product macro and commercial work. I own the the XF23mm f2 (favorite) and XF23mm f1.4 LM. the 1.4 has better autofocus being extremely sharp and clean (good for commercial work), but you may find it a bit too sharp when shooting people unless at f1.4. If you must get a cine lens, the new Cooke SP3 (PL/L mount) comes to mind, but its size will only allow t2.4. Vintage Contax/Leica also has a great image-size ratio. Modern cine lenses these days won't be small as the trend is toward wide apertures. I still prefer the visuals from the Sigma FP especially for narrative style but it can be a bit more difficult
@@cleverghostchili ... In fact I'm looking for something to make videos that narrate, describe a situation that I live .. I think the sigma FP does not have a usable autofocus (non a big problem for me.. I can live with it), but it should have on the other side an s35 crop mode that can be useful with fixed optics to have two points of view .. to document life, a walk in the mountains, a trip .. can it be a manageable tool? Or too complicated? For sigma do you have any advice on a 35mm? For me if I have to summarize the most important thing is the image quality and the simplicity of use .. a blackmagic camera would be ideal but it is really too uncomfortable and big to carry in your pocket every day .. but to make you understand what I would like! :) thanks for the advice! How are skin tones on the sigma FP?
The sigma FP has a s35 crop mode that is actually quite sharp, i think the sigma will only struggle in broad daylight. It can clip highlights and shadows easily and only has a 1/8000 electronic shutter which isn't ideal so you'll want NDs. I think it can be a very simple setup, you just need a grip and SSD holder. I may recommend a dedicated one that attaches to the body so you don't have any cables exposed. I have the blackmagic 6kFF and it indeed is too bulky and heavy for everyday carry, but the sigma FP i would carry everywhere. The image texture is supreme on the FP and has the best skin tones of any camera i've used @@fridadeivizsla2729
@@cleverghostchili thank you for your detailed reply ;)))

Would you recommend this camera to someone who is still learning about video/film making
Most likely not, this is not a beginner friendly camera, it is difficult to achieve good results without experience and technical knowledge, i would instead suggest something like the blackmagic
@@cleverghostchili Thanks a lot for the advice and prompt response
@@cleverghostchili I mean I do photography
Good job, it’s about the person using the camera. What’s the preordering at the end? 12:52
Blackmagic cinema camera 6k full frame. Any day now….
@@cleverghostchili wow, can’t wait to see a comparison
I’m 2 minutes in and my thoughts, besides your great aesthetic, is this an FX3 killer or what?!
I’m just going to give my live reactions here. Your close up shots with the brighter background are very nice looking. Weirdly, I want to know more about how you filmed these extreme closeups. Specifically when you say “cheap batteries”
35-40% in… I like big files.
Halfway through, some of these gripes, especially zooming while recording I have to imagine can be improved in firmware updates.
The image is cleaner at night with less color shift and noise compared to Sonys noise pattern. But the Sony can get a pretty clean image at 12800 iso where I haven’t test this camera that high, never found the need to go higher than 3200 as you can underexpose 2-3 stops cleanly. I think it’s better, not to mention better color science and image texture. There are videos comparisons out there should you want to see for yourself
@BlaineWestropp1 actually I posted lighting setup in your server on release. I can send again, simplicity is divinity. For that specific shot I used a photography box. Can send you an image when I get home, I also have a lot of bts on my own server. Filmed with xh2s sharp apsc cam zeiss Otus 55 with adapter which functions as an extension tube around f8-f11 no diopter. Light box has plastic diffusion, 3 led: front, top forward and top back while adjusting bright to expose around 80-90 ire
Is this a movie? 😫🔥🔥
Life is whatever you make of it 😌
🙌🏻
It has anamorphic desqueeze ?? & anamorphic modes ??
In the directors viewfinder, yes. Though I don’t know if it can record raw in that mode
@@cleverghostchili it can't record video in that mode
Just double checked, works fine for me, but yes, not 12bit CDNG@@dushyantbhatt9345
Had it, used it, sold it. You would have been the perfect Sigma advertising candidate...if Sigma hadn't rested on their laurels, and had provided the second coming of their FP range, meaning the flaws you mentioned, and then some.
hey what is the difference between sigma fp and sigma fp L?
Hi, sigma FP better for video sigma fpl better for photography. Fpl has slightly better AF, 60mp for cropping, OLPF. However you have more rolling shutter on the fpl and worse lowlight performance and noise. There may be a little more dynamic range but overall worse video performance. FP is a better balanced camera but fpl good if you want to mostly shoot photos
@@cleverghostchili hey, thank you for the insightful reply!
What lens was this?
Was this upscale to 4k?
Tech info at the end of the video. Zeiss Otus 4k
Oh… Iol
You mentioned the red Komodo, do you think the stands up to the arri?
I don’t know if I should buy the Alexa classic or rent this for projects
@@BillTettly-vc3hw Arri is in a league above, Arri has a more organic image meaning better texture and very graceful highlight roll off. The Sigma FP has a more slick image with very nice shadow roll off and excels in lowlight, similar to Red cameras, but with poor dynamic range, harsh highlights, moire, not to mention performance issues. One camera is tens of thousands of dollars the other is not
You can get the classic for 5 grand, but that’s plus support gear. That’ll get pricey quick
True, with very limited knowledge of what you intend to shoot, I can’t make a decision for you. All I can say is the Sigma is phenomenal in lowlight and has extreme flexibility in exposure and color. Not to mention it’s a tiny camera great for gimbals and everyday shooting as well. And I’d personally buy an older Arri over new Komodo any day, unless I specifically wanted an edgier look. Arri colorspace and workflow is divine. Spend wisely
Amazing work! So does this mean you switched from Fuji to the Sigma FP for video work?
Not entirely, I prefer apsc for macro and the sigma doesn’t perform as well in daylight
@@cleverghostchili have you tried high iso during daylight to preserve the highlights? I know a lot of red and alexa do that...
The highest I’ve tried is around 800 iso as my strongest ND is 6 stops. It’s not necessarily just highlight retention, there is color shifting and the roll off doesn’t feel graceful
@@cleverghostchilioh wow that’s sad to hear. I was thinking of picking it up for mostly day time shots. I appreciate you sharing that!
@@heroaomedia can still make it work, but I think you will struggle to get exposure right unless you have some shade or strong NDs
Would rather get an xh2s
The whole time using this camera I really missed the grip ibis screen and other ease of use
"I'd rather get a camera that costs 2-3x as much!"
Might get a better result debayering to BM film instead of P3
Majority of shots were using BM colorspace for the dynamic range, P3 just for experimenting
I’ve fiddled a lot with this. And going from p3 linear and doing a CST to Arri,
I can’t help but notice setting it to BMD in the raw tab just looks better
Yeah, but BMD sometimes it feels too colorful, which is when I used the P3 Linear, except i felt color space transformed to davinci wide gamut feels best. Stay tuned
I feel like you’re overly focused on cineds Lab test results. They obviously didn’t test this camera how it’s intended. If you watch Gerald undone video he noted that when transforming the image pipeline to black magic film the camera can showcase up to 13 stops of DR.
Aware of this, I mentioned the blackmagic colorspace transform in the video to improve dynamic range. It’s my main camera so can confirm it does have good usable dynamic range at higher ISOs
Hows the autofocus
I only use manual focus, but from what I’ve researched, unreliable for video
GxAce sigma version
Still a ways to go before I reach his level
You are right. its amazing. Blackmagic quality sucks.
Suck is a strong word, i'd agree for lowlight but there are situations where the blackmagic can look better. Appreciate the passion
I'd actually say this camera has 12 stops of dynamic range if you can deal with noise.
Great robust codecs are one thing, but the question is if the color science is good. It looks pretty okay and doesn't seem to compare at all to A7siii or S5 footage. The lack of dynamic range in my opinion overthrows the 12 bit capabilities
Yes and no, 12 bit allows you to see more gradations, which is particularly relevant for organic skin tones, which I find to be disappointing on Sony cameras. Bear in mind some film stocks only have 5-10 stops of dynamic range but still look great when used in controlled lighting. But as you can see from my footage, daytime with lots of dynamic range the image does appear to break so this camera will struggle for run and gun esp. day light
Image from FP looks way better. Sony and panasonic more about usability as for image quality its wack unless you pair it with great lens and lights. Sigma FP create stuning image everywhere you point it
It can't zoom while recording?!? Woah.
Unconscionable
I thought it was going to be the Sony ZV-E1 :)
Give me false color and internal raw then we’ll talk!
@@cleverghostchili there is false colour and the 10bit h265 is so phenomenal I can't see a difference to raw, plus 4k 120...
It’s a great camera for sure, but the lumix s5 and s5ii/x make it almost obsolete.
I understand lots of people might THINK they want CinemaDNG, but BRAW or ProRes are really flexible and professional codecs.
The IBIS, Dynamic range, and ergonomics just make more sense on the lumix cameras.
The original lumix s5 is under $1000 right now and it has a tilt screen with BRAW included.
S5ii is unbeatable overall
I looked at the Sigma fp, but the bad ergonomics, lack of IBIS, and need to rig it up to a Frankenstein's monster were not appealing. So I too went with Lumix S instead, a great series of cameras for unbeatable prices.
Correction: The S5 and other models record BRAW only through HDMI to the Blackmagic Video Assist so the word "included" is misleading. However the S5M2X records to SSD through USB, which is convenient. And all models have better internal recording than the Sigma which is limited to 8-bit with crazy file sizes.
Of course, you can get "cinema quality" with any camera, since the gear hardly matters to the end result. Content, light, and cinematography are all far more important.
I own both and I know on paper Lumix trumps the FP, but..........I still pick up this elegant beast over Lumix when it's just me. It just feels like quality and the roll off is amazing. It's like the first love you cant stop thinking about years later.....all class.
@@RobinParmarI meant you don’t need to pay for a BRAW firmware upgrade for $200 with the original lumix S5
The s5ii you need to buy the firmware. The s5iiX the firmware is also included.
