I am a Bass beginner, currently playing my way trough the deep notes on a squier pj-bass for 200€, so I dont have much expierience with what a good Bass sounds like or should sound like. But when I heard this Fender played for the first time (which was a few seconds ago) my heart dropped!! I NEED this bass! 😍 i am in love. Thank you for rhis informative video! I will watch it every day now, until I bought my own 😍
I love my player Jag. Turn up both pick up volumes, then slightly roll off bridge pick up until the tone gets louder for the sweet spot of this bass for me. Fitted flatwounds on and it sounds great.
One thing you could do with this bass: Turn off the bridge pickup, and pretend it’s not even there - and hey, you’ve got a Precision sound with a Jazz-style neck. Not a bad combination at all.

Good Morning Anthony, I really enjoy your videos. I began playing a little over 60 years ago. My primary Bassists to which I listened were Joe Osborn, Bob Moore, and Carol Kaye. Joe played on those Johnny Rivers Live at the Whisky a Go Go albums, which I wore out several of those playing along with them. As you know, Joe and Carol both played with a pick between the neck pickup and the neck. Bob played a lot of upright bass, on which I actually started then bought a Precision Bass and a Bassman Amp. I also played at Roland Jane's studio in which he requested that I play with a pick. I'm still playing Fenders, just switched to a Jazz Bass with a Fender Rumble 500 head and two 115 cabinets plus a Rumble 500 210 combo, and yes I still play mostly with a pick, it depends on the song. Have you a good one today. Play that Bass, Make some Music, and Smile a Lot. Keep on Thumping.

Playing with a pick is just as valid as with fingers. I can do both an use both in my music depending on the sound and style i need. Pick has a completely different tone and i find it especially useful for faster songs. Playing 16th notes at 220 bpm is a lot easier and sounds a lot cleaner with pick over fingers (unless you are some sort of bass god). So if all yall elitists in the comments (all 2 or 3 of you) can just not be assholes that be great.

Yeah, I find hammering on 1 string is EZer w a pick. I tend to slide up and down, hammering on the 1st 2 strings. With fingers, it's EZer to go across the 4 or 5 strings, and don't tend to move my left hand as much. Almost 2 diff playing styles.
There’s no “right way” to play a bass, pick or fingers, single notes or chords, higher notes or lower notes, it’s all valid, long as you make it sound good.

I only got Hubbard music in my area , their good when it comes to stick,but they do most of their business with marching band,and school stuff,I want a shop of old players that have seen and done it all and KNOW what I want when I walk in,EMPIRE seems like the place🤟🤟 I haven't heard of a 412 area code since I was like 6,lol so used to hearing 724,lol
Tried the P bass - neck too massive. Tried the J bass - couldn't duplicate that P bass classic sound. Tried the Jaguar and bought it! Great slim neck but can sound like a P bass. Love the shape of the body and overall look. Best of both worlds.
I like your reviews a lot. I am a beginner, played some in high school and looking to pick it back up 15 years later. Trying to decide between the Player P-Bass or a Player Jaguar. Can't decide between the versatility of the Jaguar or the classic, simple tone of the P-Bass.

After you switched to the J pick up and grabbed the pick, Anthony, my first reaction was that it sounded like Ross Valory. He's the first person I think of with that specific combination. What's the scale of this model? Is it closer to that of a J bass than a P bass? You might have mentioned that in the video, but I was too busy enjoying the sound demo to pay attention.

I've been thinking about this bass for a little bit because I have a pinched nerve in my left arm and its been going on for a while. And I wonder if this medium-scale would be better for me than full-scale

I got one of these 2 1/2 years ago, and I really love it. There were some issues that can sometimes be expected with a bit more budget models, the nut was not that great, so the E string could sometimes jump out, and the frets had to be treated a bit, but other than that it is fantastic.
Sounds great! Needs a chrome control plate on the upper horn to complete the look (even if it's a control switch you'd never need). Just looks like it's missing a bit of chrome.
But that's just a comment. I like the clip very much. It actually shows what's this bass capable of. I personally prefer p-bass style neck pickup.. but miss pastorius-style bridge pickup. I have p-bass with jazzbass neck.. and it's getting more and more somewhere between. I already have bought seymore duncan bridge pickup and electronics to make it pj-bass in near future. This could be my spare bass. How about the neck of this thing? Is it more like jazz bass, or p-bass?
I’m also no good without a strap. But I’d imagine if you work in a music store, you need to learn as you’ll be grabbing a lot of instruments throughout the day and demoing stuff.

The p with the j gives it a robust sound...my favorite bass for sure
One thing you could do with this bass: Turn off the bridge pickup, and pretend it’s not even there - and hey, you’ve got a Precision sound with a Jazz-style neck. Not a bad combination at all.

The neck dimensions are the same as the jazz bass. 9.5” radius fingerboard, 34” scale, and 1.5” nut width. It’s perfect with PJ setup.

This is a full scale model, but getting a short scale absolutely can help.
I only own American jazz basses. I am intrigued by this one though. Is the body smaller than a standard jazz or P bass?
