Very nice performance from both. The 10mm load did especially well in a somewhat shorter than average barrel.
10mm did well but being that I am an old timer, I’m gonna have to with old faithful and say the .45 auto.
I never really got into 45acp ever since my dad would tell me about being on the Naval shooting team and finding the recoil almost unmanageable... so I went straight to 10mm to show him up. 😇
45 is just right. Ol faithful acts more like a revolver....pew-pew all day. My uncle fixed some of my 357 mag rds and rifle rounds. Xtra power. I'm sure 45 can do as well. Good to ears. 45 acp😂
10mm never disappoints. Thanks for all the awesome video’s!
Thank you I appreciate u checkin em out!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
I've been thinking of switching from 9mm to 10mm and videos like yours are really sealing the deal for me, thanks a bunch!
I love the 10mm but ammo selection is kinda junk where I’m at
The issue with 10mm as a carry gun is both the over penetration and the recoil.
I carry a 9mm because ammo selection is way way way better than it was 10 years ago and now you can get a small gun with 15 rounds of serious stopping power 9mm ammo.
My XDMe 10mm is my field pistol now.
And I love it
Id like to see this comparison again 10mm vs .45 , but with similar weight bullets
best ammo tester on YT....these tests really show, the organic gel helps- how the modern calibers of 10mm, 357Sig, and .40 really outshine the legacy auto calibers. The energies that the legacy calibers can produce are relatively anemic and this shows up in the gel regardless of the wonder bullets. An XTP is a really basic JHP but the 10mm throwing it into the gel at 560fpe shows you what energy does. A superduper HST pulling 370fpe would look the same as that .45 did with the same energy behind it.
A deer shot with a 9mm will surely die...eventually...and it will run a lot further before doing so than one shot with .357, 10mm, 44mag, etc. The only difference between these scenarios is energy behind the bullet. The 9BPLE , win 127 +P+ and Corbon 115 +P really have not been surpassed in effectiveness for 9mm either. you can see it in the gel.
That 10 short barrel did better than I expected
10mm is super versatile. Self-defense rounds huge damage. Solid (Flat Nose Jacketed) tremendous penetration for sturdier targets. My EDC is G29 w/ self-defense rounds. Two magazines on the belt. One penetrators, one additional self-defense.
.45 for the hood and 10 mil for the woods.
I'll stick with the 1911 45 nice demo
Excellent tests of each round. However, as comparisons go, I'd rather see a lighter and faster .45 ACP round, like 180 gr. +P, up against the 180 gr. 10mm., to compare wound channels and expansion.
Still wouldn't compare too a 10mm +p would it?
Full power 10mm is just 10mm. There is no plus “p” for 10.
Still childs play compared to a full power 10mm. Underwood makes 100gr 10mm going 2000fps.
Also hollow points aren't made for high speed. Especially on wide calibers like 45, it would grenade on impact and get horrible penetration.
The 45 did really well for what it is but it is not a fair fight compared to a 10mm. Really impressed with the 180 10mm. I was getting exactly the same velocity out my G29 some years ago when I tested it. 1180s.
Great test & good results. Many thanks.
Thanks you sir, always appreciate ya checkin em out!! Good to hear u were getting the same numbers. Glad they have stayed consistent throughout the years. I have some Underwood & Doubletap coming here soon. Should be fun, hopefully a lil spicier🌶. Thanks as always my friend!! Plenty comin😁.
Hornady 10MM are not fully loaded 10MM rounds. They are loaded like a 40 cal. Most companies do NOT load 10MM fully, most are loaded to 40 cal specs
Your exactly right. Only underwood ammo truly loads the 10mm.
And double tap, buffalobore, and grizzly ammunition. Grizzly 200gr being a favorite of mine.
Ok ok
Makes me feel better about my 45 . I have a 10 as well and it did awesome also. Thanks
10mm is obviously dominant over 45. Specially if its a truly loaded too spec like underwood ammo does.
Came here afyer watching one of your .25 gel tests. Crazy how much more goes onnwith the bigger bores.
Very impressive! Hornady jhp's typically don't expand that well, but those sure did!
Would’ve rather seen 45 Super VS 10mm personally. Both in lighter grains.
Not bad. But, I think the point of the 10mm case length is to optimize the projectile speed while getting good self defense penetration. A 135gr bullet loaded by Underwood or DoubleTap gets muzzle velocity up to 1650fps from a 5" barrel (essentially a .41 magnum/765fp impact energy), and 11" penetration. The temporary stretch cavity becomes quite dynamic, potentially rupturing organs, and flattening vascular tissue (sending femoral blood back to the brain and over-pressuring cerebral capillaries). When someone's trying to kill you, you aren't going to get the center-mass hit. You might get "A" hit, and you want that hit to disrupt as much as possible.
Good test as always! I do love my Glock 29 and it's big brother, the Glock 40. The 40 tames any and all ammo I've tried so far, even my most firebreathing reloads! 1184 isn't, I suppose, terrible for a short barreled 10mm, but it should be going a little faster, but as usual they aren't loaded to their potential. Then again, the little 29 (my EDC by the way) is a bit on the snappy side and requires a decent amout of practice to be useful. While I was a dyed-in-the-wool .45 guy for many, many years (over 50, I hate to admit) since my Tucson days (I kind of miss Tucson but it's impossible to get my wife to unass The State of Misery where I currently reside - there's actual *snow* on the ground right now, yuck!) I made the switch to 9mm and then ultimately to 10mm a couple of years ago and have never looked back. I do, however, use actual full power 10mm ammo, in the form of Underwood's version of the Lehigh Xtreme Defender 100 gr bullet, which leaves the barrel of my little Glock stepping very quickly indeed! These are currently discontinued by Lehigh but I have enough to keep me supplied for several years! The 115's work ok but the 29 loves those little 100 gr bullets and shoots them very accurately and to point of aim as well. Recoil is almost nil although they are loud. What's not to like? If I could only load them as fast, I'd be a happy camper but alas, they use powder that is unobtainium for us reloaders! Bummer! You can still get the the last few rounds from Underwood but you have to be a lot better off financially than I am, at nearly $2 per round! Seems to me they should be selling them much cheaper just to get rid of them but I guess they figure they're now some type of gold or something. Hrump, what do I know? Such is life!
Cheers,
jc
Give the XTEN Comp a try. I have nearly 6k rds through my EDC XTEN, and just over 1k through my XTEN Comp I picked up and shot for the first time on Dec 10. The comp is my mildest shooting 10mm followed by my XTEN, M&P 2.0 Comp, 510/G20 about the same, 1911 10mm, and my 2.0 Compact jammomatic. The XTEN Comp is now my EDC followed closely by the XTEN - both carried AIWB. Underwood loads the XTP nicely.
Imagine someone breaking in this man’s house then they hear “ az airgunner here”. Lol. Fresh BBQ
😄😂
So I have a Springfield XDMe 10mm. I had a pair of S&W 10 mm’s about 27 years ago.
I live the round but not for everyday carry. It’s a great field gun. But I feel like they’re too heavy on recoil and they do over penetrate. My .45’s are also awesome. However one gun is a single stack and the other is a suitcase so they don’t get much carry time anymore either.
These days I rock my hellcat pro on a daily basis. Today’s ammo options plus that 15 round flush fit magazine are my reasoning for that.
But I do love my 10mm and .45 acp
Looks almost the same 😂. Kidding aside, the 10mm only has 3 ft-lb more recoil energy than the 45 ACP. Thought it would be more, but the 230 is a recoil hog
That's the beauty of 10mm because it likes to expand rapidly and still penetrate while almost tearing itself apart as it does so. But when it comes to .45 AARP, ooops I meant to say .45 ACP short, fat and slow is still an impressive round. That's because .45 ACP is a sledgehammer of a round, it hits hard, dumps a bunch of kinetic energy right away and can get the job done.
.45 acp “hydrostatic shock? Never heard of it”. Can’t argue with a cannonball hurled at 850fps still gets the job done.
Question AZA: Are you planning on going deeper to explore 1-shot combinations in the subcompact class? I’m itching to know if that 450-500ft/lb can be achieved with 115gr and 68-90gr XD in +P+. Definitely attainable in 357S…comparable to a 2-3” magnum.
Yessir I sure am. It's just tough sometimes testing and getting everything that ppl want to see. Our channel is still pretty small and these test get pretty expensive after a while, specially when it all comes out of pocket. I'm trying though bro. I still have a bunch of stuff to order and get tested. U always have great suggestions and ideas though. Thanks as always for the support here on the channel my friend, I appreciate ya!! Plenty on the way😁.
@@AzAirgunner. No worries brother, I appreciate all that you do. I don't see a patreon...happy to help finance your passion.
Thank you, I really appreciate all u guys and the interactions. I really enjoy it and have a lot of fun. No need for it but is always appreciated, I actually don't have a patreon but always leave my PayPal, Cashapp and email in the descriptions if anyone ever wants to help out. I also have a membership option for the channel now too, so we're gettin there. Thanks as always brotha!!
Love the short barrels!
369fpe looks pretty much the same in all calibers...560 does too. Energy is what matters.
Not if you ask the 45 bros
The 10mm is similar to .357 magnum in terms of velocity, bullet size, and grain but the wound that the 10mm creates is more severe my guess is at the point of impact from these ranges the 10mm has more inertia. The 10mm gets every crazier if you use the G40 with the 6 inch barrel the velocity of the bullet goes up to 1500 fps. It's an absolutely terrifying round it's like a slug shotgun in your pocket. I wouldn't use it in self defense though seems like it could cause trouble in court and it kicks a lot. The .45 is enough for self defense.
Nice video!
45 is plenty for 2 legged creatures, but there's a reason a lot of hunting guides carry 10mm in bear country.
Of course the full powered stuff not the watered down shelf 10mm .
It appeared that the 45 ACP was shot on the left side of the gel in the begining of the video. Then the 10mm was shot on the right hand side of the gel. You measured the 45 on the left hand side but when you went to measure the 10mm you also measured on the lefh hand side. Did you flip the gel or turn it around or am I just an old man with poor eyes.
45 ACP isn't really a short barrel caliber but those XTP's always do good if they get enough velocity
Those checks for 'em brands/models of handguns must be very productive for the IDF man - but I like your bulky 0.357 up to 0.50 IMI Desert Eagle productions too! Hope your palm and fingers can handle 'em recoils!!! 😁
45 bros: butt muh stoppin paarr
😂
Get a gf, you wont be so bitter
@@RogersGirl88 I'm guessing you thought that comment was witty and comedic. 😬
I sold my 10mm years ago.. regretted ever since, got the glock 29 gen 5 on order.
You must have flipped the gel at some point off the camera. Because at the 2:12 times, the 45acp shot was just left of center, and when you started looking at the 10mm shot, it was left of center, and the 45acp was on the right. The fact that the 45 penetrated deep to me makes these about equal to me. I thought initially with the extra velocity of the 10mm, it would have penetrated deeper than 45acp
Just a caution about accidently loading a 10mm round into a .45acp handgun, they are very similar in height and diameter and caution is advised.
10mm aint playing no games bruh good Gawd
U gotta get a G21/30 and put the 45super up against 10mm.
That would be fun.
Very nice. 29 degree weather for a Glock 29
Heck yeah💪!! Didn't even think bout it like that.. makes it even cooler and all worth it now lol. Thanks for checkin it out, I appreciate ya!!
Have you considered making a short review on that A80? I haven't seen one since the 80s. They are pretty much a Sig P220/226 clone.
I haven't shot one. But I recall they had a decent smooth double action and nice light single action. Nostalgic.
I actually haven't, but now that u mention it, looks like I'm gonna to have to. I was thinking of doing a quick overview of all that I have here soon. Would be pretty fun, prolly a lil long winded but fun. It's not bad at all though, it's a lil tough to get used to but still very nice. I was surprised when he gave it to me. Like Xmas for sure!! Thanks as always my friend!! Plenty on the way😁.
Well YT instadeletes my comment yet again. Gotta loving having truth speak denied.
I've seen hotter 10mm loads pass through both blocks from 4.5 and 5.6 barrels. Nice for a short barrel though. But when it comes down to it 10mm is superior in the end. Comairing subsonic to supersonic ammo isn't fair. 😅
damn. honestly if i take on one more new caliber im gonna have to buy some shit and figure out how to reload at this point. that 10 is impressive.
New time, 45er!😅
It would have been more of a fair comparison if he uesd 185 grain bullet in 45 because lighter bullet travel faster. 10mm has speed advantage because of a lighter bullet. Othewise it's a nice video.
Have you ever tested 45 hornady critical duty 220 +p? It seams to be a good round in 45
No sir not yet, definitely on the list though. I have so much to get to still🥵. Thank you for checkin this one out!! Plenty on the way😁👍.
love both some reason i jusy favor 45 a lil more it blows huge holes in whatever it hits and 45 super is just as powerful as 10mm and blows bigger holes
Joe biden said the 9mm blows out lungs...you be the judge
..
Very Nice Job.
YEE HEE 🍊. Good job AZ
Thank you buddy!!
Wouldn’t the comparison be more fair if U used .45 acp 185 grain instead of 230 grain? These vids are rarely fair.
Just curious.... did you weigh the bullets after the test to see what percent of retained weight each had?
10mm is Gods true caliber
Nice test bud👍🏼
Thank you sir!!
Not.even.CLOSE.BUD!!!!
A case of 10mm will cost you about as much as a pretty good gun.
Interesting comparison 🤔 But the design outcomes R different. The 45 is designed to knock a man down, & the 10 is designed to knock a man down in body armor. It's like comparing a 357 to the 44 🤓 The real comparison should be what R U looking to accomplish, & how capable R U at controlling a Hand Canon 🤪 I have both, & would definitely want the Big Boy when hunting or in the great outdoors. If I'm going to a place where I might encounter a fire fight...I'll go someplace else 🙂 I always want to be capable of self defense, & be comfortable enough. Winter I pack heavier, & summer I'll downsize. Common sense 🤠
Another good video.
Thank you.
10mm Auto rules.
Good things! 👍
I'd like to see how the auto compares to my S&W 10mm. thats been modified to accept 10mm. Magnum.
I have a ruger gp 100 converted to 10mm magnum! 😂 I want to gel test it so bad.
Seems like most of the time the wound cavity measures larger from the side than from the top. Wonder why that is?
Ur right. I'm thinking because there is less material up an down compared to left or right, so the bullet path/stretch is taking and stretching the path of least resistance more and increasing the stretch up and down. Idk though🤷♂️. Sounded good in my head😄.
What did your clothes barrier consist of?
Wow, nice 9mm performance from the lightweight 10 mm!😂
It do not feel it is at all a relevant test for xVSx caliber if it is maximum terminal performance of two calibers if you insist on using what shorter than optimal barrel lengths for both
Both the 45acp and 10mm were originally designed to be fired from 5" barrels and for the 10mm 6" is ideal
Under no circumstances whatsoever would I ever purchase a 10mm HG with any barrel length under 5" preferably 6"
No contest.
Is a 10mm vs 357 Sig test in the future??
Yessir, will be the next test. Sunday😁👍.
@@AzAirgunner.

10mm or no mm!
💪💯
10mm is tbe best cartridge for carry..
decent vidio, either one is a good choice. Um consider cleaning up......your range is a pig sty.....
🇺🇦👍
Dumb test if you're testing 10 mm get full power 10 mil ammo
This is the first one I've done with the G29. I have about 20 different rounds I'm going to test. But there's plenty of other channels out there to watch. No need to be negative. Maybe you can tests them on your channel.. Thanks for watchin!!
Dumb take.. he showed the ammo immediately. You should have seen your way out then.. but you didn't.
Bye karen
10mm whooped 45acp.
💪💯
.45 is an outdated round. You're getting the recoil of a 10mm, less performance than a 9mm, and the mag capacity of a revolver...
Why don't you test the 45 super or the 450 SMC or the 460 Roland come on man shyt at least even the playing field out of it
