Plastic was only on the bottom the wrinkles come from how they were shipped in the plastic. If I had known they were like that I would have taken a heat gun to them as a common technique to smooth them out after remelting. The pictures weight and expansion will go up at www.dayattherange.com

Hi there lovely to see the 1911 pistol again I used to shot one in 45 cal. in competitions nothing would touch it that was until all handguns were banned in England I used to have a gunsmith friend of mine polish the throat with a dentist drill to take out any machine marks that used to make bad loading when using lead loads it work well, thank you for the video wished I lived near your club so I could shoot these handguns again take care and stay safe mate.
Nice shooting! I have shot both calibers pretty extensively, all in 5 inch barrels. I have one of the guns that Ace built and another that I built using one of the conversion kits that Ace and his son Garey used to sell. Garey unfortunately retired and I may have bought the last of those kits...I have three left. My 10mm was a Colt Delta Elite. The Starline brass is superb by the way. We started out by forming from 308 Winchester brass which works pretty well but consistency and case life of the Starline brass is better. From a serious handgun hunters perspective I can tell you that, unless you are hunting really large muleys, the two calibers are interchangeable on deer. Hogs and bear are a different story. The Super is the way to go. The biggest challenge is in picking the right bullet. Every 230g hollow point I tried gave about the same result you got or less in terms of penetration. They open too fast but leave a huge wound cavity. 12- 16 inches is fine on deer but the 185g routinely out performed the 230g. Your observation about the rapid expansion of the 185g was spot on. Try the Barnes 185g. TAC-XP and you will get better penetration. The game changer for bigger. tougher and heavy boned game is the 255g hard cast. If you test that one, I promise that you will need another block of gel. Perhaps two. On broadside shots on hogs, I never get the bullet back. Same with quartering shots on black bear. I like to keep things simple. I load 185g and 255g. I sold the 10mm by the way. With the right bullet, the Super just out runs it. Great content here. Liked and subbed. Cheers!
Just found your channel, this my 1st video iv seen 0f yours. I really enjoyed it. I been looking at what rings against the 10mm. I haven't seen a disadvantage on why not to carry a 10mm
I APPRECIATE YOUR WORK! IT IS WELL DONE AND GROWN UP. YOU ALSO HAVE AN ENTERTAINMENT QUALITY TO YOUR VIDEOS, WHICH IS RARE. MANY OF YOUR PEERS ARE AS DULL AS A CAVEMAN'S STONE KNIFE! PLEASE CONSIDER MORE VIDEOS ALONG THE SAME PATH AS THIS ONE. I WOULD ESPECIALLY APPRECIATE A COMPARISON OF 45 SUPER WITH 460 ROWLAND AND THE 10 MM WITH THE FOCUS ON PENETRATION AND ACCURACY. I EMPHASIZE PENETRATION AND POWER MOST SINCE AN EXPERIENCE MANY YEARS AGO IN THE MOUNTAINS OF EAST TENNESSEE. A FAILURE TO PENETRATE DEEPLY PUT ME IN REAL DANGER!! I AM ALWAYS INTERESTED IN THE FIREARM ITSELF, ESPECIALLY THE BARREL LENGTH. THANK YOU AGAIN BROTHER. LONGUE CARABINE
Great comparison of the two calibers. The tip you threw out concerning the firing pin stop plate was good but was under emphasized, in my opinion. That mod is one of the keys to properly tune a 1911 for high power loads. One more change should be the mainspring. Increasing that spring rate to 25-28 Lbs along with the flat bottom FPSP really helps keep the slide velocity down, much more than a heavy recoil spring which may cause the slide to cycle fast enough to outrun the magazine. I run a 28 lb mainspring and can’t tell the difference in trigger pull from the original spring on my Kimber.
Getting here sort of late in the comments, but TH-cam knows how to keep me glued to the video screen and fed me this one I found some of the .45 185grain XTP that were on sale last year and I bought a few boxes that I'm just getting started on. I saw a few tests of those bullets in std .45 ACP @ about 850 FPS and the expansion was pretty much nonexistent, so it's good to see they do better at Mad Scientist velocity
I enjoyed this video. I have fond memories of my Navy days carrying the Man Caliber sidearm on duty. Those were the times before most men turned into limp-wristed soyboys.
There are actually a number of promising cartridges in this same vein. .400 Cor-Bon, .41 Avenger, .41 Action Express, .451 Detonics Magnum, .460 Rowland, .45 Winchester Magnum, and probably a number of others I don't know of. All almost exclusively for more advanced handloaders now. Some would even require a lathe to manufacture your own cases. A cartridge that requires that much labor and time or expensive custom loading to produce is generally doomed to obscurity. Interesting investigation of the little known .45 Super. 👍
Excellent test, sorry I am just now finding your channel! Just picked up some 45 super 230 JHP Underwood for my USP Expert and was curious what I was in for. Thanks!
Hi Sir Professional great vid. 45 super needs xtp or gold dots. Gun Sam just got into testing it nosler just isn't hard enough surprised that 10mm 200 nosler got that far penetration. Beautiful v16 . You might like my recent 9mm vs .45 fair test lw commander vid
I wish I bought a para ordnance 1911! They were made a few towns over from where I grew up in north carolina. That springfield is stunning I've never seen or heard of them! Beautiful!
As I learned from my study of mathematics and physics, we can imagine where concepts trend by taking them to their extremes. Imagine a spit wad in a cartridge case instead of a bullet. It would basically develop the velocity equivalent to the propellant's maximum, but what do we think would happen to penetration? The same principle applies to bullets with a lower sectional density, e.g. lighter bullets by caliber. I'm curious about how much gel a 230 grain XTP moving at 1400 fps would penetrate. Can the bullet retain enough mass to get 16 inches +? If so, that might be my new hunting load. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
@@Dayattherange Smaller demographics I guess, but when they are done as well as this one, makes me appreciate them even more. I thought it was good and liked it and thought it was well planned and executed. So, thanks !!
Real fun brother! Love love love 45 plus Pedro . Looks like you could have made that 135 grain much hotter, maybe a more robust bonded bulllet like golden saber, would be phenomenal in that 10mm. Its a great bullet that never seems to be travelling fast enough to fully expand, but when its up at over 1200 fps its magical. The 10mm underwood extreme defender and xtreme penetrator would .ake that block fly off the table!! Want to see that! Thanks again!
You can argue that 45 cal projectiles need to be re engineered for the added velocity in 45 super. They look like they actually over expand in some cases. The added velocity causes them to expand to disks a little too soon
That is Underwood's fault. I saw another test using this ammunition and it did the same thing (Military Armaments Channel). Looks like they're using projectiles designed for ACP velocities and they're pancaking almost on impact and only getting 5"-7" of penetration.
I have done several velocity tests with my own V16 stock long slide vs the same gun with a Jarvis 6” non-ported barrel and I found that those barrel ports in the standard V16 reduces velocity by about 70 fps. Losing that much velocity, and getting more blast from those ports, was not worth it to me. I left the Jarvis barrel installed permanently. Good video by the way.👍
@@Dayattherange I would love to see your version of the “Dicken Drill” with what you would be carrying in a similar scenario while (cold, 40 yds, 15 seconds, high stress, crowded environment). well done mr. DATR sir! very thorough. may i suggest something? as with rifles, there are SPEED MAGNUMS and POWER MAGNUMS in pistols. i believe your troops would like to see a POWER MAGNUM session with your 6" guns, and using hard cast heavy for calibers bullets. basically outdoor type loads looking for very deep penetration! i am a 1911 fan also, and they are great guns in their own world. and they make excelent backcountry pieces. that's why i would like to see your analytic skills applied to sort out some great calibers that might see backwoods duty on things with lots of teeth and claws.....(bear, wild hogs, wolves, cougars, et al) i have been at work for some time with the heavy cast bullet biz. i have done a little work with 9MM, 10MM, 357, 44 and 45Auto. more feedback from a qualified pro would be a treat! SEMPER FI joel
Nice tests, man. I'm really impressed by that Hornady 185g 45 super load. I figured a light for caliber bullet like that would rapidly expand and stop at about 8 inches, but that XTP bullet must be better designed for higher velocities.
Nicely done!!! I have one of the PARA Hunters and it is a great gun...also have a Kimber Stainless Target II in .45 Super... I'm also wondering how many fps loss you are getting with the ports in the Super...
If you want to do a comparison video pit the 40 Super vs 10 mm with underwood ammo. As far as case pressures 40 Super is limited to 37,000 psi. The 45 Super does not get to even play in 40 Super ballpark, energies can reach just under 1,000 ft.lbs for muzzle energy for 135gr light loads or with 220gr hard cast the 40 Super still thumps with 890 ft.lbs. Check out the Wikipedia page for 40 Super have a barrel made by KKM or Bar-Sto with a fully supported chamber get a 24 lb recoil spring and have some fun.
@@tyemiller6204 40 Super is one hell of a cartridge. Handloading you are going to get the most out of the 40 Super as there are lots of bullet selections from light 135gr self defense projectiles all the way to the heaviest hard cast lead for Alaskan Brown Bear protection. Starline has brass for the 40 Super. A word of caution this round does not like double stack Glock magazines unless they have a certain older style follower, the rounds nosedive and then there is a failure to feed, this info is available online(see link below). Single stack Glock mags do not have this issue if you are using this round in a carry gun. th-cam.com/video/3Pcy7W-9Zcc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qJk0B0f0ukzlkYgW

Plastic was only on the bottom the wrinkles come from how they were shipped in the plastic. If I had known they were like that I would have taken a heat gun to them as a common technique to smooth them out after remelting. The pictures weight and expansion will go up at www.dayattherange.com
I DON'T WANT TO MAKE A PEST OF MYSELF BUT NOW THAT I HAVE REA😢LLY DISCOVERED YOUR WORK I DON'T WANT TO MISS ANY OPPORTUNITY TO LOBBY YOU. YOUR WORK IS VERY USEFUL!
SO I WANT TO REITERATE AN EARLIER REQUEST THAT YOU DO SIMILAR COMPARISONS BUT INCLUDE A FAVORITE OF MINE THE 460 ROWLAND!!
SECOND CHOICE FOR ANY ANALYSIS-- 10 MM.
THANK YOU MUCH!
YOU DON'T WASTE TIME AS SOME OTHERS DO.
YOU ARE CLEAR AND STRAIGHT TO THE POINT.
IN SUM, YOU ARE A REAL PROFESSIONAL BUT ONE WHO IS ENTERTAINING!!
MANY THANKS.

good stuff. I haven't shot the 45 super yet. I like 10mm but don't own one. I have the typical 45 can't say that I have ever felt like it wouldn't do the job. I really like 7.62x25 with a good load a nasty little round. I like all calibers really. my big thing is making that hole exactly where I want it and reliability of the piece after that I'll nit pic over caliber. I enjoyed the content thank you.
Hey devil, love the testing and gotta say I can't wait to get my 10mm and do some testing myself. Keep up the good work.
Great video again, testing a couple things I was thinking about recently
Very entertaining and informative video, I'm a fan of both calibers. New sub and Semper Fi!
Cheers!
Great energy in this video!
Just found your channel, this my 1st video iv seen 0f yours. I really enjoyed it. I been looking at what rings against the 10mm. I haven't seen a disadvantage on why not to carry a 10mm
@bunkybell1120 like anything practice with what you carry. XdM is a nice carry and very controllable
That 135 grain 10mm load would make an excellent pest load
Would be neat to see the Grind Hard 45 acp ammo tested!
They have a 111 gr copper that is listed at 1700 fps out of a 5" barrel!!!
I APPRECIATE YOUR WORK! IT IS WELL DONE AND GROWN UP.
YOU ALSO HAVE AN ENTERTAINMENT QUALITY TO YOUR
VIDEOS, WHICH IS RARE.
Excellent test my Devil Dog brother. Some serious speeds developed there.
Glad I just found your channel! Love the energy and info
Getting here sort of late in the comments, but TH-cam knows how to keep me glued to the video screen and fed me this one
I found some of the .45 185grain XTP that were on sale last year and I bought a few boxes that I'm just getting started on.
I saw a few tests of those bullets in std .45 ACP @ about 850 FPS and the expansion was pretty much nonexistent,
so it's good to see they do better at Mad Scientist velocity
If you are not looking for 45 super loads. I found 185's at about 925fps start to expand.
@@Dayattherange I noticed the PP handloads at your website.
Good to see - Thanks
.45 super 230 grain seems like the perfect HD-round to me: lots of energy, little chance of overpenetration!
Good content and great delivery, love your enthusiasm. All around very enjoyable.
Outstanding video thank you for your service sir.
Way to go Marine. Love your presentation
Thanks Peter I hope you come back then for a carbine project I am working on HINT HINT 😁😁
Great video and beautiful guns. Thanks for putting the work in to share this info with us.
Thank you
I enjoyed this video. I have fond memories of my Navy days carrying the Man Caliber sidearm on duty. Those were the times before most men turned into limp-wristed soyboys.
Great video! Just watched it. Great documentation of a very interesting, and very specifically, informative video ! 👍
I remember this one like it was yesterday it was very fun to do and see the outcome. Thanks Mike.
The xtp is a tougher bullet than the nosler. I like em both . Great video
Heavier projectiles, for the most part, penetrate deeper than lighter ones.
Dam fine shooting there Sir, dam fine.
Thanks for your review and most importantly, Thanks for your service to this country!!
Great job on the 45 super / 10 mil top shelf video
Thank you Michael
@@Dayattherange absolutely you are without question top of your game..
Thank you for your service!
Excellent test, sorry I am just now finding your channel! Just picked up some 45 super 230 JHP Underwood for my USP Expert and was curious what I was in for. Thanks!
Glad it was beneficial I think you will love it in that HK
Great vid. Probably lose a lot of velocity with those 16 ports in the SA barrel.
I wonder how the holes in the barrel affect the velocity of the .45 Super? Were the barrel solid, I think the velocity would be increased.
As always I love the video and your intensity!
Thank you Frank
I wish I bought a para ordnance 1911! They were made a few towns over from where I grew up in north carolina. That springfield is stunning I've never seen or heard of them! Beautiful!
I was really sad to see that brand go away knowing this was truly a dream for Ted and Thanos the founders of the company childhood friends.
Love your show. Thank you.
Springfield needs to develop a hunter model in 45 super with ceracote finish, good fiber optic sights, 6'' barrel, and maybe cut for red dot.
I appreciate no nonsense testing and let the actual results speak for themselves.
Appreciate you saying that -- I love the testing and love doing it but they are not popular.
@@Dayattherange Smaller demographics I guess, but when they are done as well as this one, makes me appreciate them even more. I thought it was good and liked it and thought it was well planned and executed. So, thanks !!
Real fun brother! Love love love 45 plus Pedro
As retired army guy love a marine that knows his weapons great job thanks
You can argue that 45 cal projectiles need to be re engineered for the added velocity in 45 super. They look like they actually over expand in some cases. The added velocity causes them to expand to disks a little too soon
That is Underwood's fault. I saw another test using this ammunition and it did the same thing (Military Armaments Channel). Looks like they're using projectiles designed for ACP velocities and they're pancaking almost on impact and only getting 5"-7" of penetration.
Love your delivery! You've got a new sub!
Your groups are great dude
I have done several velocity tests with my own V16 stock long slide vs the same gun with a Jarvis 6” non-ported barrel and I found that those barrel ports in the standard V16 reduces velocity by about 70 fps. Losing that much velocity, and getting more blast from those ports, was not worth it to me. I left the Jarvis barrel installed permanently. Good video by the way.👍
Probably more a matter of the internal dimensions of the Jarvis bbl , than the ports per se .
@@margarethouse404 so you don't think 16 holes in the barrel bleeds off pressure, causing a drop in velocity?
Really enjoyed your presentation.
Just found ya! Awesome work. I'll be watching every video when I see ya
Aaron much appreciated
Good video. Well done Sir 👏👏
Phuk yeah Marine!
First time I've seen your Channel but I enjoyed it thank you for sharing the information. Joe security
This is a great presentation! I’ve been following GunTubers for some time. Where have you been?!
J-Dub I am humbled thank you.
@@Dayattherange I would love to see your version of the “Dicken Drill” with what you would be carrying in a similar scenario while (cold, 40 yds, 15 seconds, high stress, crowded environment). Everyone else makes these videos to either show off or fail but I think your version would be much more educational. We would learn from what works and from what doesn’t. Thoughts?
Be interesting to add the 460 Rowland in that mix. But in a 5in 1911
Good shooting and really nice 1911s
Just subscribed.. First video... "Nuff Said" 👍👍
Wow thank you
You Certainly know your Stuff, Great Vid!!...oooo Double Dog
I like how you present the 45 super from the 10mm. The 45super is a lot of gun to a 10mm, but I am sold.
I’ve been dreaming of a 38 Super 1911 for a while and always tell my uncle that am 1st in line when he sells it (bought it off another uncle) but honestly wasn’t aware there was even a 45 Super round 😮. Great comparison since I have a Delta in my stable.
well done mr. DATR sir! very thorough. may i suggest something? as with rifles, there are SPEED MAGNUMS and POWER MAGNUMS in pistols. i believe your troops would like to see a POWER MAGNUM session with your 6" guns, and using hard cast heavy for calibers bullets. basically outdoor type loads looking for very deep penetration! i am a 1911 fan also, and they are great guns in their own world. and they make excelent backcountry pieces. that's why i would like to see your analytic skills applied to sort out some great calibers that might see backwoods duty on things with lots of teeth and claws.....(bear, wild hogs, wolves, cougars, et al)
i have been at work for some time with the heavy cast bullet biz. i have done a little work with 9MM, 10MM, 357, 44 and 45Auto. more feedback from a qualified pro would be a treat!

Excellent vid ...great job ..👍👍
Very Good Video, I learned a lot. Thank You...
Thanks roberto appreciate you stopping buy hopefully you become a frequent flyer.
Nice tests, man. I'm really impressed by that Hornady 185g 45 super load. I figured a light for caliber bullet like that would rapidly expand and stop at about 8 inches, but that XTP bullet must be better designed for higher velocities.
XTP is really tough ALL of them no matter the caliber is what I have come to find out
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT VIDEO! ILL STICK WITH THE 45 ALL DAY! 😆
I bet this guy is a easy dude to kick it with.. he just has such a likeable demeanor
Would love to see a 10mm vs 40 Super with heavy cast bullets….just picked up a 40 Super barrel from BarSto

Awesome, haven't seen you in a while.
Great vid🤟❤👍 I bought Hawthorn 45 Super 255 gr hardcast Ammo that hits 1490fps and 1257 fpe on the chronograph. Insane....
