- For a generation the name Catherine Deneuve has been synonymous with elegance, beauty and intelligence. Now 70, the international cinema star has made more than 100 films. Deneuve sits down with Bob Simon of "60 Minutes" for a spirited look back on her life and career.
Obviously she’s physically attractive, beautiful. But the physical combined with her intelligence, frankness, reserve and mystery is what really makes Catherine Deneuve really attractive and desirable. THAT’S sophistication. And she’s one of the great actors.

Kind of surprised that when he was mentioning her work in the 60s he doesn't mention The Young Girls of Rochefort or her sister, Francoise Dorleac.

She is the epitome of exquisite, the epitome of feminine grace, intelligence & she is just incredibly cool in every sense. I would reccomend Vadim's 1986 book, 'Bardot, Deneuve & Fonda'. He tells but never 'tells on' & treats his subject matter with respect and affection.

tov ylixir I bought it at the library it was a used book being sold. I read it several years ago and have read it about 3 times. I found it excellent, however quite sad in parts, vis a vis Bardot. One of my very favorite anecdotes, however, has to do with an airport and it's something that would never happen nowadays. Another has to do with BB and another young actress but for now my lips are sealed, lol! I won't giveaway any more than that but you will know what I mean when you read it. I would be interested in knowing how you like the book :)

This may be a rather contrarian view, but I quite enjoyed the late Bob Simon's approach and interview style here. The dynamic between he and Deneuve was unique to what I've seen in her many other interviews. His questions elicited some fascinating responses from her. He had a varied and commendable career in journalism but this interview with Catherine Deneuve is embedded in my memory.

I just saw the Last Metro (Le dernier metro) directed by Truffant from 1980 which starred gerard depardieu and catherine deneuve. She was great in the film, absolutely a wonderful performance.

I would say she is among the beautiful women in the world. Not say the most beautiful. Because there are many beautiful women in this world.
Everyone keeps dissing the interviewer, saying how horrible he was here, but I think he was fine. Sure, his questions could have been better, but so could Catherine's answers. There were times during this interview when she seemed unnecessarily rigid, almost difficult.
I don't think she was rigid... if anything, she was very modest and coming across as humble instead of giving easily into compliments.
Bob Simon is hardly a "nobody" unless one has no idea of his career. In journalism, the interviewer's questions are vetted long before the interview. She seemed comfortable with the questions. Maybe it's just how the posters perceive the interview. I've interviewed celebrities: it is a very fine line, and it depends on the show. I doubt Barbara Walters could have interviewed Deneuve: her questions are far too penetrating for someone like Deneuve. Deneuve does not appear to like overly inquisitive questions, such as Walters would ask. Bob Simon knew what he was doing here.
I followed Bob Simon's well respected -- and provocative -- career from when he was correspondent at White House press meetings during the Nixon era.
But in this case, either he has not followed Ms. Deneuve's own or his researchers knew too little about her roles except to give him a tabloid list of co-stars, directors, romantic relationships and awards.
Her fans would have expected more insightful questions about what someone of Catherine Deneuve's stature had been like.
There certainly is a great deal more about this legendary movie icon.
Next time please get a grown-up to interview her.
