I'd like to see a test done with dipping the bullets in Redding graphite neck lubricant, and see how the force is reduced. Can't wait to see what you come up with. This is going to be a very good tool to have in your Arsenal. Echo

I think a lot of commenters are missing the point on this tool. This is not designed for the average reloader. In the world of TH-cam information, and experimentation from so many content providers, we may be able to put to rest a lot of the untested lore of handloading that we do simply because somebody thought it made sense at one time. I don’t plan to purchase one of these, but I’m going to soak up information like crazy from people doing these experiments.

my only comment is that you should be the top reloading channel out there. i see 100k subs before 2022. something something algorithm
I think we have reached the point where it would be handy to S/N our brass. 14 had an anomaly on X step. 14 threw an outlier in a group. 14 needs to be removed or added to batch Y, etc.

@@jimbo2.094 Serial number/piece number. That way when you do throw a crazy flier, you can refer to the data and see if there was anything weird when it was processed.

Been doing this for a few years now bought a laser engraver off of Amazon. I left a few comments previously even on Eric Cortinas site stating so and he did the same thing when testing his brass.
@@justice1327 Thats awesome! How does the engraving hold up to cleaning steps i.e. vibratory/wet tumbling? It seems that with proper tracking and chronographing that method might be a better way to cull brass. Let the groups, velocity, and press data determine what makes QC instead of meticulous manual measurements.
I am looking forward to how a careful use of either the 21st Century hyrdro press or the K&M force press compares to this tool. And by comparison, I mean group size on target.
Very excited to see data on different types of annealing and seating force, and how that relates to ammo consistency. I’m currently using a blow torch to anneal, and there isn’t much data on other the consistency of this method vs. other methods, e.g., AMP, salt bath, rotory annealer like Annealeze, etc.
No to use this thing and compare seating force for brass annealed by AMP, torch, and salt bath in addition with a control group and see if their study they paid for and published is accurate. It would be a pretty good test I think and put their claims to the test.
They probably wouldn't like this test but if their claims are correct would also prove their claims to be accurate.
There is a point of diminishing return per time and money spent. This is far into the weeds when the shooter tends to initiate a good deal of deviation on the target, and wind. Interesting, but this a point to far for me. The next level would be an electron microscopy. :)
After that, coloscopy maybe ?

I've seen it talked about on several occasions and often gets over looked, but the correlation between seating force after annealing with and without case neck brushing is interesting. Carbon deposits brought about from the annealing process (maybe with just the AMP, or maybe all types) seem to negatively impact seating force and neck tension.
The only issue I forsee is a blind acceptance of the data that this press provides. How often and by what method is it calibrated, to check that it accurately measures force and distance? How do you QC a batch run through the press? I only mention this because my career as a Biomedical Scientist was ruled by these 2 mantras - Calibration and Quality Control. As Peter Drucker said: "If you cannot measure it, you cannot manage it" ... and the data becomes arbitrary. VERY interesting tool and video.
Hello, I really think that it all depends on what you are using it for. It is unique as it allows someone to compare lots to one another. I wish the data output was a little cleaner but I would guess many people are not using it the way I am. As far as the QC you are referring to, it ships with a simulation die with a spring on it. You can run it whenever you like and compare the results. While not perfect it should help you detect any shifts in your data that you may be looking for. I think it is mostly for detecting rounds that are out of family. I wonder if some day they will throw some statistics on it and highlight rounds that fall out of a user specified range. Only time will tell but its a very neat tool.
Have you found any correlation between the graphs with velocities and accuracy? Now that you have this graph information 'How can you use it in the real world?'. What good is it if it only displays force information and you can't use that info for improving loading accuracy.
Once those who have the equipt, start getting the info they find out there, it will be educational, and it may even proliferate into the major tool companies creating product to do this stuff too. This tool is a rabbit hole and a half as to what can be tested out with it, and what data it can provide to the masses on the products and methods they use. Wonder if 440psi is enough to size brass with and check out some of the differences in the various sizing tooling. Be really interesting to compare mandrel vs button expanding to add to the info trove, but, this tool won't cover that.
$1300.00 to seat bullets we’ve gone from the ridiculous to the sublime.
There are a lot of us that simply can’t afford these expensive toys.
Hi Nick, I tried to make it clear in the video that certainly this tool is not for everyone, but I do think that a lot of people will be able to learn from the data that it generates as I plan on sharing this information on my channel for anyone who cares to watch. I am hoping to get feedback from the crowd that can't afford this to see what they would test if they did have the opportunity to do so.
@@BoltActionReloading A good starting point would be to establish a correlation between consistent graphs of seating pressure and good groups at the range. If anything, F Class John's tests have already shown that some of the most consistent graphs can have the worst groups.

I don't plan on buying one of these anytime soon but the data it will generate will be a huge deal even if you don't own a press yourself.

@@ewethokinda, but with it being brand freaking new, I'd hardly expect BAR to have done enough with it to really get too much an opinion on any specific topic with it.
All of the who's who are dropping vid's on this already. He needed to get something out for his followers. I personally prefer his methodology on testing and look forward to his findings.

Mostly I wanted a video to review the press when a thousand people ask in the comments section what is that when I start showing the data it generates. Data will be coming but I can't explain the press in every video so I need something to link to.

Things to test: flame v AMP, progressive press v other, bushing v mandrel, brushed neck v virgin v graphite, neck size only vs bumped.002-?, dirty brass v clean, SS tumble v corncob, what point in the reloading process is best to anneal? Virgin brass v 10x fired, compare top brass against each other, compared to everyday use brass such as Fed Rem Win Hrd ( is Hrndy really softer than brand X, ) which brass lube is best.
Each of these comparisons are fairly simple. Now I am no mathematician, but how many variables are there with all options combined?
It’s would be very interesting to see at what point seating force will affect pressure for example You seated 4 rounds at 5lbs of pressure and 1 at 5.2lbs how much if any will this affect your SD and ES numbers.. where is the tipping point that will cause a difference
Question on removing copper from barrel, Christensen arms, 26" carbon fiber wrapped, 7mmrem mag, 168 gn berger vld, average velocity 2950 fps. VVN560. Shot estimate, 600 rounds. How many before I need to remove copper from barrel? Really new to this for custom Rifles.
HI Andrew I have been following the cleaning much more frequently rout. I have been using Sharp Shoot R Wipe-Out Patch-Out with the accelerator after every range session and haven't been disappointed.

In the beginning of this reloading process it seems I was being chased by a pack of wolves, lol. I went with your info, using full length seating die, bump shoulder back. 002, removed the expander ball. Picked up the 21st century manderals. Pretty much doing what has been working for you. In the beginning the E.Ss and S.Ds were terrible. Now, I have one load that I've found to be a node. E.S 2- S.D. 0.7 . This is a reconfermation of the load. Now I'm moving on to complete the seating depth comparison of 20 strings of 3 roundgroups. Thanks for sending me in the right direction. Using Hornady brass 2 times fired. Haven't gotten into neck turning yet. That's a whole different animal to explore. And my wife is going to kick my ass if I get another piece of equipment. Lol.

I think this machine is a very conclusive test of annealing & case neck prep. I'm not sure that differences in low neck tension will result in changes down range, especially when primer pressure which, is what initially unseats the projectile is in the order of 5K PSI.
Imagining that a few Lbs difference between cartridges can make a measurable difference is not intuitive to me at all.
As the total force will reflect the variables, actual size ot the ID; actual diameter of the projectile; and the friction exerted by the brass on the projectile; this opens a whole number of considerations but especially how and when you clean the brass ID. Do you lube before setting ID? Oh the list!
Once they get this working with the IPAD i’m in.
Need to see more testing before i purchase this..for that price..

My brass is deprimed, tumbled, annealed using 750 degree tempelaq as a guide and sized using bushing dies that set my neck tension at 0.002. I would like to see a comparison of the flame method I use vs the AMP annealer in seating pressure.
Eric Cortina has a two-part video series that covers exactly that on his channel. The F Class John channel also has a video that examines performance using three types of chamfering: none, slight and deep chamfering. Be sure to watch John's video to the end because the "perfect" bullet seating graph for the slight chamfer produced the worst groups on paper while the most erratic graph produced the best groups.

Polishing the inside of necks before seating? 🤔
AMP Recommends it. I’ve been doing it for a few years since I got my amp 2, and I saw results at 600 yards and beyond.

@@keeperdearborn With a clean piece of brass, take a nylon brush and give the inside of the neck a few passes. Some even dip the neck in graphite balls, but I haven’t seen any effects of this.
I agree that this tool is a game changer. A whole lot of people's secret sauce can be tested and proven.

@@BoltActionReloading I really appreciate it and look forward to actual data. I want to create a proveable process. No matter what anyone does though the grandpas out there will cling to their old ways and that's fine. I don't care if they learn or not but for the rest of us we will use actual science to improve things.
I am optimistic that there will be some info for everyone. There may be things that work and we don't know why. Maybe it would be fun to have some of the guys who already know it all send some brass to test how good their process really is?
@@BoltActionReloading I think a lot of people are about to get their feelings hurt. Grandpa's witch doctor process of boiling the brass then soaking it in bacon grease (or whatever it is) can be definitively debunked (or proven correct). In other words get ready for a great big explosion of egos in the gun community.
To the person that never shoots past 100 yards or who only shoot enough to take a short shot on a deer a couple of times per year it won't matter how much data we can get. The spirit of the fudd is strong and won't be easily defeated.

This tool isnt going to make me any better of a shooter. I shoot 1,000yds all the time, i know my gun, and i know my reloads.
I`ve been a reloader 50+yrs, i`ve learned a thing or two along the way. This tool is worthless to most reloaders in my own opinion. And way over priced, too.

@@grosminetytp5520 only for someone that doesnt comprehend its capabilities. You can see where BAR is going with this but honestly it is most critical for understanding variations in neck tension. Erik made a point of this with his arbor, but couldn't notate the the seating depth when tension changed. If you only reload 1 gun this may not be of value to you. There is alot of bandwagon items that come out every year (like their annealer) but there is also nuggets.
I used to enjoy these reloading channels for showing us what we can hope to achieve using high end methods and good equipment but it now seems that they’re racing to see who can best showcase equipment that the overwhelming majority of us could never afford and frankly would have no need for.
@@terrycostakis6284 its all in what you are trying to do. you cant speak for "most people" because most people could be reloading for hunting. most could be reloading for range shooting. if you are in the latter this is an incredibly useful tool. I reload because my kids love to see tighter groups. this is something they will love because it will show us how to develop good habits, what the bad habits are, and most importantly when to take the m.a.p. gas off the brass. again, incredibly useful.

The only thing this will change for me is the amount of money that will disappear out of my wallet for a useless tool on my bench that will never pay for itself.
Honestly, how many reloaders will ever buy this. I know a shit-ton of reloaders in my neck of the woods, not a one of them would ever look at this even once for reloading.
I dont need a tool like this to repeat my die set-up`s. That`s what the lock rings are for on your die`s. This tool is for those who want to phuck around and split hairs that dont mean shit. Anybody worth their salt as a reloader already knows that what your data says and what you end up with out in the real world, the field, are 2 different elements with 2 different stories.

I think those amp guys just look for ways to over complicate the reloading process and charge you a fortune to do it.
Once you seat your bullets, you're going to shoot them and evaluate the results of your reloading process anyway. Sorry, but I fail to see why I should remortgage my house to have an AMP gizmo tell me what I can feel during the seating process and ultimately see on paper. That said, they can always market this press as an OCD therapy device.
