Surviving 24hrs Solo On A Deserted Tropical Island Beach - Making Fire - Cooking In A Coconut - ASMR

  • I spent 24 hours on an isolated tropical island beach in the middle of the Andaman Sea, practising bushcraft & survival and my newly found skill of opening fresh coconuts. Having taken a few limited supplies with me, I cooked up a feast for my one and only meal of the day which consisted of spicy chicken kebab (kebob for those on the other side of the Atlantic), steamed vegetables with chilli and foraged ginger from the north of Thailand and to go with that….sticky rice cooked in a coconut. Was it tasty? It certainly was!
The weather for my 24 hours alone was HOT, around 36 degrees Celcius (100 degrees Fahrenheit). With a little sea breeze and a couple of swims in the water, I was able to keep my body temperature down.
One of my favourite memories from the 24 hours was finding two freshly fallen coconuts-probably due to the storm a few days earlier. I was extremely grateful for those coconuts as it allowed me to try something I’d never tried before….cooking sticky rice in a coconut and coconut water. Yum-Yum! Another great memory was the sheer peacefulness and feeling of isolation. Yes, that feeling of not seeing anyone for the whole duration was something we should all try! A lot happened during that time on the beach and I didn't always have the camera to hand to capture it. There were times that I just lay on my back looking up at the palm trees, appreciating where I was and just ‘taking it all in’.
Did I mention the friction fire? Well….I knew I’d be able to get a fire going from scratch, which is something that I have done hundreds of times, but using weathered rope for the cordage was slightly tricky as it wasn't the most durable of materials. However, I still got the ember just before it snapping from wearing thin.
One thing that you will notice from the video is the sheer amount of plastic waste. Plastic waste has become a bit of a ‘buzz-word’ over the last few years but you soon realize how much of it there is when you visit a beach that isn't inhabited with tourists and people cleaning the beach on a daily basis.
It was a real eye-opener. If there's one thing I wish you all to take away from this video then it is this…..please limit the amount of plastic you use and please, please, please, RECYCLE as much of it as possible!

    Reminds me of vacation.
The area may be bustling with tourists for half the year, but this is way out of season and cleaning out the beaches doesn't happen until winter is over. The area may be cold enough that most people won't think of beaches at this time of year, but for brits and scandinavians it's such a welcome change from the wet cold winter that the prices are entirely woth it. The bath water is merely "refreshing" and you may have to explain to puzzled locals that to us it's warm, and that we've even found time to get out of our usual woolen underwear.
And then find time to hire a boat and take a trip to a local island.
    Life is good.

We need to introduce an international holiday, where one day of the year everyone on earth gets the day off work, and we all have to go out and pick litter up and clean up the planet. Just one day. A lot can be done in a small amount of time if everyone puts the effort in. People may start being more careful with their litter too if they re the ones who have taken part in cleaning it up.

In the early 80s, I lived in a remote bay in Australia. There were quite a few people living (as we say today) off-grid. But this was more than just off-grid. You either grew, foraged and hunted your food or you die. Unless you're prepared for a 4 day round- trip on foot to the nearest village. Anyway, getting to the point. The dozen-odd people who lived there would scour the beach every day, collecting useful flotsam and jetsam. Glass floats were the most prized treasures. Plastic ones were okay too. Thongs (flip-flops) were common, as were Suntory whiskey bottles. The majority of seafarers are dirty pigs who think nothing of tossing crap overboard because it disappears almost instantly in their eyes, only to wash up on some pristine coastline days, months, or even years later.

Just wondering if that was a weather warning tower of some sorts at 32:59, looked like "Air-Raid" horns on top of the tower. And yes it's just a shame what some people are not capable of, like caring or cleaning up their own crap. That aside, great video, It is great that with just a small hand full of gear, you made a great camp and nice big feast right on the beach. Keep 'em coming dude. Seaya in the next one.

I think (as a part of the global community ) that we should pay good money for people to go around the globe picking this stuff up. There are lots of fisherman around the world that could make a better living doing this than fishing in already overfished waters. If we don't adapt and take care of earth she will get rid of us.

I just can't seem to look past the fact that a new born baby, placed under that big tree and left there alone for 24 hours, would also have 'survived'. Just joshing you, nice video.

But cheers mate.... Maybe another time u visit.. Or if u cud sponsor my journey.. 😀😀 I would make a big difference in keeping the garbage from getting bk into the ocean... Its the most important task to do there... Clean clean clean...
