      @@BrianQuan well based on both your video and his I got a nomad to complement my Cafelat robot. Since I have been wanting to try spro overs. And before these videos I was contemplating buying a machine, but didn’t want to spend a ton of money on a machine to just do one thing. Also your SSP burr and niche video was very helpful and informative

    Nomad clean up seems much simpler than the flair and with the larger reservoir, more versatile than thy he flair and robot. How does the quality of shots compare to other manuals?

    • @roggerdavid
      @roggerdavid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is pretty forgiving. You dont need a really expensive grinder with the pressurized valve. I bought it because of portability. But it turns out much better that that. I have an Aram and Wacaco pico espresso. Those 2 are great but you need to dial the shot with a good grinder, not so much with the nomad. I have not used medium grinds.

    Would like to know whether we can remove the disk below the basket and the tcv if we already have a good grinder?
    Thank you for your time in reading my comment ☺️

    • @jimmilstein7166
      @jimmilstein7166 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a Kinu grinder, so I removed not only the disk and tcv but also the bottom of the white basket holder. I want the coffee path to be as simple as possible. Coffee flows from basket straight to the tray and out. The tray is just an odd-shaped funnel.

  • @EthanF555

    I wonder why they can't make a custom portafilter instead of that tray. Seems like it wouldn't be that difficult to implement. Your thoughts on this idea?

    • @BrianQuan
      @BrianQuan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So this machine was actually designed back in 2012/2013 as a portable travel machine so the integrated tray design makes sense. Over the past 10ish years we've decided to like bottomless portafilters and all of that. Right now I think it would require extending the machine further away from the reservoir to properly implement a PF/bottomless no tray setup. I think Uniterra does have something in the works on this though and if there's a Nomad V2 I'm 100% buying it.

    • @EthanF555
      @EthanF555 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BrianQuan appreciate your insight, makes much more sense now. I like the trays for travel but for daily use a portafilter would be much easier/cleaner. If they do that on a V2 and keep everything else the same (which is great) they can take my money now!

    Wanna ask what’s the difference between pour longer to maybe 1:12 with a lever and just pour over by hands?

    • @BrianQuan
      @BrianQuan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Generally TDS because of the paper filters in pourover. Filters for espresso can emulate something similar. It also can depend on what pressures you are hitting with a 1:12 shot. Even at 1 bar of pressure for a spro-over you can get a cup that results in a different mouth feel vs. pour over.

    thank you for showing this. I am not really into plastic but it also looks quite alright with the finish, it could also be pained steel and you would not now:D seems really straightforward to use, thats what i like about it and the no-need to preheat/or easiness of it, cause that is whats keeping me off those manual machines really

    congrats, your shilling led to me buying a nomad 😂 (it was discounted at 120 bucks though). anyways, is there a community for people brewing with the nomad?

  • @MrDarrylR
    @MrDarrylR ปีที่แล้ว

    The Nomad is neat, but it always seemed like a kluged prototype, that would be improved if it was just the lever pumped tank, leading to a riser with a pressure gauge and some sort of group head for a 49mm (or hell, 58 mm) portafilter.
    The Flair, Robot, and Rok demonstrate there's a real market for compact/occasional use lever machines. The see-saw pump makes more sense than simple lever pistons. But the execution here just seems to introduce more machine volume, weight, and hassles than necessary.
