They did a show in boston and played "mass", and when Jake sang "my baby's in Massachusetts" he said "that's here!" And that's the best moment of my life.
Hey, just want to let you know, that no matter what you look like you're a beautiful person inside and out! Ik being secure with oneself is hard, but I'm letting you know that you're worth it no matter what you look like :) Mobo forever.
I love this band to death. Ian, Sean, Jake and Brendan will always have a special place in my heart. Holy Ghost makes me cry every single time I listen to it. Every single time. I'm incredibly biased because that album was the soundtrack to my most tumultuous mental health years, and knowing the story behind it and why each part is so raw (especially Brendan's) and different to their past albums, coupled with the explosively melancholy performances always brings a sense of catharsis that make me cry tears of defeat and pride all mixed into one gross cocktail. The timeline of their albums and the issues they explore could honestly be a movie; a bunch of sad highschoolers who don't fit in start making music about girls who don't love them back, suddenly getting hit with the toughest experiences of their lives and the way it breaks them, only for them to remold themselves is such a touching tale of maturity it would fit right in with a classic 90's coming-of-age movie. But instead it's a three album (with a smattering of singles and EP's and splits) sonic experience that is so real it becomes uncomfortable. I think the reason this MoBo "character arc" always chokes me up at the end is that I listened to these albums at roughly the same age the guys in the band were when they put them out, and each one ended up being a soundtrack so perfect for my own high-school coming of age experience that by the time Holy Ghost rocked around, I didn't feel alone even when I continually isolated myself from my friends and family. I didn't feel alone in wanting to end it all, and I didn't feel alone in feeling out of touch and distant from everyone around me. At first I just clung onto those words, "I'm a waste of time and space" and would ignore the rest of the bands message out of sheer stubbornness and not wanting to get better. But eventually I did, and Brendan's vocal performance on the last leg of the album with the rest of the band playing as passionately as they do with as much chemistry as they do always brings me to tears, because it chips away at that iceberg of stubbornness every single time. And I've listened to it so many times the vinyl is basically unusable. It chipped away at that iceberg so much I started to reach out to my friends and family and counselors to help me chip away the rest, and I did in the end. For me now, MoBo's "character arc" and specifically Holy Ghost will always continue to make me ball my eyes out, but now it's mostly out of pride, both in those sweet sweet Midwestern boys, and myself. Thank you MoBo. Thank you. (Also thought I would mention that the reason Holy Ghost is such a flurry is because Brendan had to write his half of the album in like a week to make the deadline, they flow into each other because honestly it's basically one big stream-of-consciousness thought, which for me I really like and prefer to the previous two albums)
I was like 15 16 when I found this band I’m so glad you made a video this band help me through teenage angst and got me into my ongoing emo phase I was going reading fest they were there but cancelled due his mental health ;(
MoBo has definitely become one of the most influential punk bands of this past decade. Name any pop punk, folk punk, and indie punk band that's come about after 2015 and I'm sure you can clearly identify the MoBo influence.
I feel the same way about Titlefight and basement. Although i have every Mobo album and have 100's of hours listening to them, i grew up too close to titlefight to not have them at the top. Awesome video man.
this band will always hold a special place in my heart they’re my most listened to artist of the decade, and they were all I listened to for most of high school. Without MOBO i wouldn’t be the person I am. They shaped my taste in music, introduced me to a genre that I love to this day, and influenced my style and attitude like nothing else has. The friends I made that also listened to them were my closest in HS and now that I’m trying to become a music photographer I can confidently say that I will make many many more friends that also love them. My first tattoo is going to be a MOBO tattoo. Long Live MOBO.
Modern Baseball is my favorite band of all time. In high school, I needed a band like them and YGMIA came around at just the right time. Always regret I didn't see them play while I had the chance. Long live Mobo
I'd never listened to Modern Baseball before seeing your thumbnail. I feel like the career of one of our generations great voices has totally gone over my head. I'm looking forward to binging their albums
bro i legit saw your newest 100 top song vid and fell in love with the "mass re-done" and now i have found a whole new band to listen to. definitely in top 5 bands that i listen to atm
I remember the first time I heard modern baseball, they were opening for the story so far and I had never heard of them and one of my friends just kept telling me how bad and annoying they were over and over on the way to the show so I was ready for the worst and when they started playing it blew my mind and I was in love. Also my favorite band and I’ve long awaited your video on them haha
They played a surprise set in Philly once just because they wanted to give Weatherbox, one of their influences, a good show. Needless to say the show sold out moments after they announced, only a couple hours before doors. Seriously sick move from a band that did not need to do that. Love to see it.
MoBo really got me through my senior year of high school, and the transition into my freshman year of college. That year was rough but they were there for me. I’ll never forget this band
Modern Baseball is the definition of my senior year in high school and freshman year of college. It’s a band both me and my boyfriend listened to those first couple years of our relationship ... MoBo is probably the best thing. To happen to the pop punk scene in my opinion
I just want to thank you Alfo. I’ve been having probably the worst year of my life and I stumbled across this video completely by accident. One of the biggest highlights of this year was giving this band (and Slaughter Beach Dog) a listen. Modern Baseballs music spoke to my depression like very few bands do and they’re now one of my favorite bands. And had I not watched this video I probably wouldn’t have listened to them. Or really knew who they were. Hope you’re all doing okay.
The thing I love the most about this band is each lyric or song will always take me back to a certain memory. If they come back together I think it would be the best day of my life
• you introduce me to a lot of new music, a lot that is very different from my favorite genre, but because of you I listen to so much different music and have opened my to different genres, just wanted to thank you man, and hope to see you have a great 2020 both in real life and for your youtube, and thanks for introducing me to modern baseball, I listened to 3 tracks just now and I already know I’m gonna go through their whole discography •
I cannot say enough good things about MoBo. I absolutely love them, and it's funny, that whenever I listen to their music, I get ideas of my own for songs. Brendan Lukens is absolutely precious and someone who I can relate to on a personal level, and having watched the Tripping In the Dark doc before Holy Ghost, I was devastated to hear his breakdown came after the Say Anything tour, because I also love Say Anything and Max Bemis, and knowing Max's personal history as well. From a songwriting standpoint I think that Jake is basically the same as me, to a point where I've actually said as much in tweets, but Bren's straight-and-to-the-point style is one that I find the easiest to pick up of the two in terms of my own songs. You're Gonna Miss it All was my intro to the group, but I have a TON of nostalgia packed into Holy Ghost with the fact that my mental state was very similar to that album's, and the fact that I would spend bus trips in Ireland alternating back and forth between it and Blond by Frank Ocean. (I'm still mad that the title track isn't longer, but honestly adore the difference between the down tempo Holy Ghost and fast paced, bouncy Wedding Singer. Thank you for this video. Must go binge them again.
Heyy man, I really think you did the band justice describing their music. I watched this video yesterday and I am commenting today to let you know that you did a wondering job explaining how much their music means to you.. I understand that sometimes musical-magic-moments just can't be described in words-- they're feelings -- so no worries man, i vibe with you there haha. I knew of MoBa for awhile but never got too into their discography (just know a few of their popular songs) but you make me want to listen to them ! You hyped them up for me haha. I feel the same way you do about this band as I feel with Death Cab for Cutie and Radiohead
I remember driving around with my friends looking for skates spots while "Sports" played, talking about the coming year and what we would do after High School, flash forward to today, we still might manage to meet even though we live in different cities...while "Sports" still playing in the background.
got to see Bren Lukens perform solo a little after they broke up, it was really cool to see him perform in such a small venue. Extremely nice guy, super friendly
My girlfriend's favorite band is Car Seat and mine is MoBo, we both kinda hated the others favorite until we conditioned each other and now the favorites are swapped. Mr Toledo is such a soft lad
Modern Baseball's music is the soundtrack to my adolescence. I listened to their first two albums on repeat throughout the ages of 15 - 17 and I couldn't be happier I had their music to help me through the shit I was dealing with during those years. I'm so happy I was able to finally see them live on their Holy Ghost tour. I can only HOPE we get more music from them someday. Thanks for this video.
I think a great way to see the growth of the band is comparing songs Coals & Hiding. These two songs were written by Jake and are essentially a time capsule of his mindset at these two times. Coals was written before Jake headed to college and showed his optimistic outlook towards the future. On the other hand, Hiding was written when Jake had just finished college and showed his now pessimistic headspace and his how even places he loved became vexing to be at because of the memories he has there. Hiding was my all-time favourite song of theirs because of how the song changes and grows along with Jakes lyrical talents.
i keep commenting and tweeting at you sorry Harrison lol but wow you are just the coolest. really summed up my love for modern baseballs authenticity. i cried when bren sang just another face the last time i saw them. let’s hope they reunite one day!
All I can say is thank you for making this video because I feel the exact same way about Modern Baseball and they mean so much to me that I don't even know how to explain it
Thank You. Like you, i fucking absolutely love Modern Baseball, though i started listening to them a year ago. I don't know if i can say they're my favourite band because i love Los Campesinos equally, but omfg they're incredible. I'm currently learning "How Do I Tell A Girl I Want To Kiss Her" which is just beautiful. Again thank you, love this band so god damn much. I need to listen to Holy Ghost when i get a chance tho, i really do.
Everytime I think I am over MOBO not being a thing anymore I see something like this... I am one of the rare MOBO fans who doesn't like SBD or think they are a substitute for MOBO. I can't be mad at you though. Good vid, glad you appreciate them too.
One of my favourite bands of all time, I met Jake and Ian when they played in Dublin and to say they were the goofiest sweethearts I ever met would be doing them wrong. Whatever forever!
I LOVE MODERN BASEBALL SO MUCH 🥺💖 before I found them I was trying to search for my type of my music and I found them and now I’m inlove with them and McCafferty and the front bottoms, I love it 🥺
I honestly found Modern Baseball after seeing Slaughter Beach Dog perform live. I just love their individual aesthetics that are so similar yet so unique
god yeah they rule. I think I heard them at the perfect time (late high school/early college) and just grew along with them. like the front bottoms but closer in age to me.
The transition from Charlie black to Timmy bowers emotionally destroys me. It sounds how it feels to know your helplessly falling into depression and there’s nothing you can do.
I remember finding i think you were in my profile picture once when i broke up with my girlfriend of 2 years. i’ve been hooked on modern baseball ever since
@AlfoMedia Sir…how old _are_ you? You must be _really_ young for Modern Baseball to be your all-time favorite band. I’m 19, but I turn 20 on December 4th. What about you?
Modern baseball is so fucking good. So good. All three of there LPs r so good. All of their EPs r so good. I love them. Slaughter beach dog also slaps I love jake
They did a show in boston and played "mass", and when Jake sang "my baby's in Massachusetts" he said "that's here!" And that's the best moment of my life.
He’s got so much personality during the performance it’s so awesome
I love modern baseball because I'm ugly and they're the representation I need.
ikr! why does every celebrity have to be beautiful?
jakes cute tho
I find all of them cute! lol
They’re not ugly
Hey, just want to let you know, that no matter what you look like you're a beautiful person inside and out! Ik being secure with oneself is hard, but I'm letting you know that you're worth it no matter what you look like :) Mobo forever.

Bad H2o not a fan of the front bottoms new stuff though🤷♀️
I have to say, you've been one of my biggest influences in music for the last year ! amazing video as always
Their acoustic of ‘Apartment’ takes me back to when i was 15 and in my first relationship. Makes my heat sink and lift at the same time
Modern Baseball is the band I listened to the most this decade, and I got hooked back in 2014. Been a long ride.
rip mobo, saw their final show in London, I miss them a lot, was glad I was able to meet all of them, except for Brendan
Leaving this comment, in case MoBo reunites and releases new music
Best band of the past decade. I suspect they will grow more legendary in the years to come.
I was literally just thinking about how amazing the transition is between Charlie Black and Timmy Bowers before I clicked on this video.
I was like 15 16 when I found this band I’m so glad you made a video this band help me through teenage angst and got me into my ongoing emo phase

You introduced me to Bay Faction, 99 neighbours and Aries whom i all love, will definitely give these guys a listen.
Knew Alfo was a sad boi. I could feel it in my bones.
This vid articulates how I feel about Modern Baseball better than I ever could. Thank you!
The amount of excited I felt when I heard that modern baseball is someone else’s favorite band.... I know I’m gonna cry before this video is over

I'm so happy I was able to finally see them live on their Holy Ghost tour. I can only HOPE we get more music from them someday. Thanks for this video.
i literally love modern baseball so much. they’re my favorite band and no words will ever truly describe what they mean to me
Just got done listening to them before you posted this. They are truly amazing.
Modern baseball will always have a sweet spot in my heart
MoBa is an incredible choice for favorite band. “Sports” is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard
Thanks you for this! You found a way to encapsulate the emotions and feelings that this amazing band portray through their beautiful music
All I can say is thank you for making this video because I feel the exact same way about Modern Baseball and they mean so much to me that I don't even know how to explain it
as a maryland local i love modern baseball sm and am proud to say they’re from my state
But I feel like the thrash particle is a little underrated it’s so good 😤🥺
Yessssss! This and Alpha Kappa are my favourite songs from them

Too bad they stopped making music. They reminded me a lot of my favorite band (who also stopped making music), The Weakerthans.
Been listening to a lot of Modern Baseball and the Menzingers the last half of 2019, apparently they used to play the same scene in Philly. Neat!
Thank you so much for this video. Absolutely spot on
honestly no matter what you've gone through, you'll relate to any and every mobo song
Man I wish they are making more music, I really do enjoy modern baseball
