Here is a summary of all the dragons:
Vermithor, Silverwing and Seasmoke are the unclaimed dragons at Dragonstone and Seasmoke now has a new rider.
Syrax is Rhaenera's Moondancer is Baela's and Vermax is Jaecarys dragon, which are also at Dragonstone.
Caraxes is Daemons dragon, both are at Harrenhal.
At Kings Landing are Aemonds Vhagar and Helaena's Dreamfyre.
Aegons Sunfyre is wounded but recovering at Rooks Rest.
In Oldtown, Daeron has the blue dragon Tessarion.
Stormcloud and Tyraxes are with Rhaena and the kids at the Eyrie in the Vale
There are also 3 wild dragons: Sheepstealer, Grey Ghost and the Cannibal. Both Grey Ghost and the Cannibal are on Dragonstone and Sheepstealer is the big wild dragon that is feeding on sheeps in the Vale.
Arrax and Meyles are the dead dragons at this point.

Seasmoke was cool until the knight said something like “I’ve done it” (tamed a dragon) which seemed to change Seasmoke’s demeanor right before he let the fire loose. Like SS didn’t appreciate that hubris?

    • @mgatwood42
      @mgatwood42 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

I feel Seasmoke wanted a bond like he had with Laenor. Laenor adored Seasmoke and treated him as a war buddy, his best friend he could feel completely free with rather than an animal to dominate. Ser Steffon approached Seasmoke as something he needed to conquer for his queen. It could be Steffon's hubris in thinking he'd won, but it could also be that in the crucial moment where Steffon should have been completely focused on bonding with his new dragon he only thought of his bond to Rhaenyra. Not only did he not love Seasmoke, he didn't even _care_ about him. He saw him as a tool to use, a weapon of war and nothing else.
Thus Seasmoke went to find his own rider, a guy he'd been sniffing around for years who was playful, competitive and sensitive like Laenor. Not some staid, humourless, all-about-the-duty knight, but someone who would return Seasmoke's devotion and be fun to hang out with. And Seasmoke made sure he had Addam's _full_ focus and attention for their bonding! XD

Seasmoke certainly appears to be a "cheeky" one. Like that whole scene with Darklyn queensguard, how he was like "yeah, sure, here is a saddle, right, cmon, chop chop, aww you're dragonrider now, you've done it, dude" before burning him alive. And then went "you're going to bring me dragonrider? nah, screw this, I'm going to get myself one on my own"
I know people sort of disliked Daemon's story in Harrenhal, but I love everything about it. It is some weird sh*t dream sequences, it is exploration of Daemon's character and his exploration of his character (and not just presentation as sort of badass dragonrider), his better understanding of himself and how the world works in general (what rulership and decision making on your own is).

Daenerys is 16 (born on 284) during Dance (fifth book, year 300) and Missandei is 11. But I don't think Daenerys has any sexual scene with Missandei (not that I remember and I probably would remember cause that would be outrageous.). The one Daenerys ocasionally has sex with is her dothraki servant Irri who is also 16/17 (born on 283/284). Daenerys does feel guilty about it though.

I believe that the fact that Alicent did not choose to be a mother, but was forced to, resulted in her being a bad mother. In episodes 3 and 4 of the first season you can see what an unhappy teenage mother she was. This is another contrary parallel between her and Rhaenyra. I tend to think Darklyn functioned as a blood magic sacrifice to Seasmoke (since Ser Steffon has a trace of dragonblood), priming Addam to be able to claim Seasmoke despite his dragonblood being better than Steffon's but still not full Targaryen. House Targaryen has forgotten a lot of their ancient blood magic, but those like Daenarys did it accidently, which is why she survived Drogo's pyre without burning. There might be more examples of accidental blood magic in GOT and HOTD.

    • @mgatwood42
      @mgatwood42 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

I'm curious about the burning dragonkeeper slicing his throat with the dragonglass dagger. Was that just to end his horrific suffering or was it a deliberate act of self-sacrifice for blood magic? There's a theory that the dragons' hatching and bonding are only made possible by sacrifice-powered blood magic managed by the dragonkeepers. By cutting his own throat with dragonglass the keeper may have been feeding the blood magic in hopes his death would hatch out a new dragon. That might explain why he did it so slowly and with such gravitas rather than the panicked flailing one might expect if he was merely ending his misery.

But the doom of Valyria happens 114 years before Aegon the Conqueror was born so the Targaryens and Velaryons already intermarried one century before they went to conquer Westeros. Irri and Dany are physically intimate but there's no romance to it - Irri offers to do it and it doesn't come off as coercive in any way or have a weird power imbalance thing, it's more like Dany got stressed and lonely and Irri was like "I mean, I can help with that if you want?" and it just became an every-now-and-then kind of casual thing.

However, in the TV show, that may not happen; little Stormcloud is not large enough to save little Aegon's life; and little Aegon is not old enough to ride a dragon on his own; so he might share his younger brother Viserys' fate, unless Baela and Moondancer (or Baela on Sheepstealer) intervene.

Some book facts below (no spoilers for after the equivalent time in the books).
With Corlys being a Velaryon and the Blood of old Valyria.
Aegon the Conqueror's mother was Valaena Velaryon who's own mother was a Targ, it's not known if said Targ mother married the Lord of House Velaryon meaning the rest of their line have Targ blood is not known but it would make sense which would mean there is a good chance of
Interestingly (though this would not affect Corlys’ illegitimate kids getting dragons) there have been other Targ/Velaryon matches notably on the show Rhaenys and Corlys, before that there was Jaehaerys I and Alysanne's mother was a Velaryon she married Aneys I who was the son of Aegon the Conqueror and Rhaneys and then married Rogar Baratheon (their daughter then married her nephew Jaherys' son Aemon and they are Rhaenys' parents).

I kind of love how Rhaenyra is always seen finding physical comfort with people every time she feels abandoned by Daemon. She gets with Criston after Daemon leaves her in the brothel, with Harwin after Daemon leaves her at her wedding (and she later blames him for it on his face), and now with Mysaria after she feels abandoned by him all over again. There's a pattern to it. Mysaria is similar to that too, the way she tells Rhaneyra exactly what she wanted/needed to hear: she was complaining about Daemon refusing to be "possessed by her" and Mysaria immediately follows up by "submitting" to her, calling her the rightful queen. It's the exact same thing she does with Daemon in episode 1 at the brothel, when he was sulking about the succession and Mysaria tells him "you're Daemon Targaryen, rider of Caraxes and wielder of Dark Sister, the king cannot replace you". There's an interesting dynamic that ties all these three characters together, I'd say.

Keep in mind Viserys and Daemon's parents were brother and sister (Prince Baelon the Brave and Princess Alyssa Targaryen). Rhaenyra's parents were first cousins (her mother was half Targaryen). Hence why they have pure silver hair.
Only Targaryens can ride dragons. You have to be Valyrian AND have dragonriding blood. The Taragryens are not the last Valyrians (the Velaryons and another house called the Celtigars are also Valyrians. Essos is also filled with people who descend from the Valyrians). However, the Targaryens are the last dragonriders. So anyone who rides are dragon has to have Targaryen blood.
The Velaryons and Targaryen families have intermarried for generations so the Velaryons do have Targaryen blood in their ancestry in quite a few generations. One such case is with Laenor and Laena who were Rhaenys' children.
The fact Addam was able to claim Seasmoke means Corlys has Targaryen blood through some ancestor too.

Also, Mysaria gives Rhaenyra something she's always wanted and she shares it with her right before they kiss: she sees past Rhaenyra's being a woman. Rhae has a complicated relationship with being a woman and she says she wanted to be a man so Mysaria saying she looks good with a sword and when she doubts herself she gives the same affirmation we'd hear given to male-leaning characters "You're just tired. get some rest. let others (or the women) handle this for you." THAT endears Rhaenyra to Mysaria.
For Mysaria, not having to offer her body, the thing her father took as if it were his when she was a child (taking away her ability to have children if she wished) and every time afterwards she had to give up to survive, means the world. When Rhaenyra asks her about her scar in episode 2 and Mysaria doesn't give her an answer but Rhaenyra still lets her go, she allows Mysaria the opportunity and choice to stay of her own volition. When Rhaenyra comes to her with complaints about her council, she's sort of playing the traditional role of Rhaenyra's wife and by actually allowing Mysaria to not kiss her in that breath they take, there's consent for both parties. Rhaenyra married to her uncle who groomed her as a teenager (and her cousin) and Mysaria who was sexually assaulted as a child and became a sex worker to survive.
They share an intimacy that neither has had especially as an adult. Rhaenyra can explore "masculine" interests she has freely without fear of ridicule or mockery, while Mysaria can "be of consequence" and play wife without giving up her body

I’m pretty sure George R R Martin mentions that the tones can range from silvery gold to platinum blonde, so that’s actually a detail I picked up on too when watching this series and I really appreciated how that lines up with the source material. Some wigs look ‘creamier’ and have an almost warm, golden tint to the blonde, while others look closer to a true white colour. People keep saying it's too slow and I disagree. The best seasons of GoT were a slow burn and this is no different. Much prefer they slow down and explore the many different relationships like they have done.

    I don't think Seasmoke was a troll.
I think it was willing but then he said he'd done it and Seasmoke was like "Wait, WTF you haven't even got close to me you arrogant fool!"

Actually, in the books, Raynece had brunette hair because her mother is Baratheon. I don’t know why they changed it, but apparently they decided to change it in the show.

To be fair, George himself has retconned Rhaenys' hair colour from Targaryen silver in The Princess and the Queen to Baratheon black in Fire and Blood. I guess they wanted her to have the Targaryen look in the show to make Rhaenyra's kids stand out more.

In fire and blood Rhaenyra and Laena are rumored to have a sexual relationship and Rhaenyra is bisexual which I’ve always gotten the vibe especially when her and Alicent were kids I felt like Rhaenyra had a crush on Alicent

I think Sheepstealer is the wild dragon in the Vale where Rhaena is. Also, weren't there like 30 dragon riding families in Valeyria before the fall and the Velaryons were among them? I thought over time their dragon eggs failed to hatch and they failed at claiming wild dragons so their blood ties to dragons gradually just dwindled.

I find it interesting how people almost say that it is Alicents fault as a mother that Aemond and Aegon are the way they are, without giving her the same benefit... I mean how has her childhood under Otto have been? Warm... Joyful... a Childhood?

FYI : Any Valyrian can ride a dragon but only 40 houses (the leading houses of the freehold were dragon lords) So Targs - Velarions and Celtigar the 3 surviving houses from the doom can all ride dragons. But only the targs owned dragons and dragon eggs because they are the only dragon lord surviving house the two others were seafaring houses and they stayed that way.

Not any Valyrian can ride a dragon. There were 40 dragonlord families in Old Valyria. Only they could ride dragons. The only surviving dragonlord family is Targaryen.

@@lgt.jne3 Dragonriders were dragon riders because they owned eggs it's a matter of property not genetic characteristic. It's like rich people are rich people because they have gold. Give gold to the poor he'll become rich.

@@govinddas7876 Here is the misconception. The 40 dragonlords were dragonlords because they owned dragon eggs not because there is something special about them. Valyria is inspired of Rome. And the council of the forty was like the house of the Senat. Every free Roman citizen can be a member but not everyone was. The number of seats was limited.

Corlys Velaryon kept on blabing in season 1 about how the blood of old Valyria was going to enrich the blood of Viserys family (when he was pushing the marriage with his daughter) he wasn't talking about Targ legitimacy they have no legitimacy over westeros (they are foreign conquerors) he was talking about valyrian blood and what it can do for his household (dragon riding)

So Alicent is a terrible mother. And I feel like she promoted her son's claim in an effort to stay close to power herself. So I feel some justice in Aemund's expelling her.
    Seasmoke: Ride me dammit!
