In fairness with the Ithilden scene, Celebrimbor does invent it, and works with the dwarves to make the doors to Moria.

Because they showed that those doors to Moria had not been made yet in season one, and we know the ultimate fate of Celebrimbor, many people thought that we would get the construction of those doors in this season. But I do get their point that if Celebrimbor still thought that leaving Middle Earth was eminent, that it is a bit strange for him to be engaged in new projects at this moment.

still doesn't change most of the points they make... The sense of "travel" has been a problem of the show from day 1; and also the over use of what can often just be described as script convenience... We don't actually know how out of sync some of the things are, like what they showed with the dwarfs VS what's going on with Sauron and Celebrimbor, but apparently Sauron knows what's happening there without ever being there... Unless you are going to tell me that he infiltrated the dwarf realm before getting into Eregion; which would make his travel time all that much more miraculous... Same with the messengers from Lindon; did he went thru the bridge, destroyed it and then went to the barrows and call upon some wights AND THEN went to Eregion? And the messengers were still not dispatched? I guess the answer is, Sauron was way earlier and set up preventive measures to cut off Lindon from Eregion... Well, that creates problems as well... Because it was made to look, unless we are inclined to think that the Elves are STUPIDLY inept, that the span of time between Galadriel and Elrond arriving at Lindon with the info, and Gil-Galad sending messengers is SHORT, it is done with the greatest speed because, you know, very important news... Those elves must had set out the same day Gil-Galad knew of the rings and Sauron... So, this conflicts with the idea of Sauron's trip being "way early", when Galadriel and Elrond JUST MADE the trip just fine (and they sure didn't take the " + 2 weeks" route)... So what? Are we made to think that Galadriel and Elrond JUST MISSED, barely crossed paths with Sauron and they went to Lindon, Sauron set up all of his traps just before they passed and then arrived to Eregion... It's a sketchy timeline and more importantly, nothing really is explained well or at all... And still it relies heavily on apparent convenience (as well as the idea of Sauron being omnipresent or being aware of events that he seems to be pretty certain about but we have no clue how he knows these things)
Also, I guess we abandoned long ago the idea of the secrecy behind the Elven rings... Even if the debate of whether or not Sauron "touched" the elven rings in the show is conceded, and we all say "Ok, he didn't influence them"; there was still the idea that Sauron didn't know exactly how many Elven rings were made, who had them and anything about their whereabouts... But in the show Sauron seems to know WAY too much about the elven rings; and this further brings into question the rings "detachment" from Sauron and the reasoning for some of the later events

      @@Alewaxon baller comment, good stuff.

    • @markwood6056
      @markwood6056 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@Alewaxon Actually there is plenty here, First time line. Just like most books, we see things when the author wants us to. Hell in Lord of the Rings we have events that are occurring that are shown in the previous book, As the chapters between characters are shown not to be running side by side. ITs an exceptionally common storytelling method in written works. And heavily used in shows like Game of Thrones and House of Dragon and Wheel of Time all shows that they watch so they should be very aware of it.
Now we have characters like Galadriel state this is the work of Sauron. Now does she literally know this, or is it her just making assumptions. Some things she is getting information from her ring and we see it visually referenced, but not all. So are those times just assumptions? Something unexpected and bad happens so blame the chief bad guy?
The Knowledge of Sauron. Is it Sauron knowing something as fact, or is it Sauron making educated guesses based on what information he does have? Comments about Galadriel, Gil-Galad, Elrond, and the rings and them being in Lindon. Does he know that or are they based on assumptions that he knew Gil-Galad had left for Lindon when they were starting the crafting process. And that Elrond and Galadriel were there in the crafting, and with them and the finished products no longer in Eregion, one could very easily make the logical leap that they are all now in Lindon. That the rings work, does he know that, or is he making the assumption as a means to use Celebrimbor desire to successfully craft something equal to the work of Feanor to get his hooks into him?
On his knowledge of what is occurring in Moria? How would he know? Is it having spies in Moria? Is it foresight? Or could it be more mundane. We know the Dwarves helped build the facility needed to make the rings. That means Dwarves would be coming and going to Eregion (we don't ever see them there, but we are told about it). Eregion and Moria aren't terrible far from each other. So has there been dwarves coming and going during this time? If so, would Celebrimbor who is consumed with his work pay any head to the Dwarves? Would someone who is at the gates of Eregion for what appears to be days, have had the opportunity to hear information that Celebrimbor wouldn't? Again the show never showed us Dwarves in Eregoion but it does state they were there and in sizable number. So us not seeing it doesn't mean thats not possible.
Then the traveling of Elrond and Galadriel both to and from Lindon. We know Elrond take the rings. We know Galadriel is chasing him. Thats it.
We don't know when this occurred or the route taken. Did they travel together, and just on the last day, Elrond takes the rings and makes a mad dash with the rings and leaves without Galadriel forcing her to chase after him?
Did Elrond take the rings in secret from Eregion from the get go? Did he separate from Galadriel in an early part of the joinery? And that Galadriel has been tracking him and chasing him once she learned he had taken them?
Did Elrond take a direct fast path to Lindon, or to he take a more circumspect route to try and make following him more difficult?
Did he go by horse the entire route? We don't know any of these things.
Now in heading back we are told the fastest route is the one where they would cross that bridge. We don't know if that was the route they went to Lindon from.
Now for example if both traveled together and only near the end does Elrond take off with the rings. Then it's likely that is the route they would have taken as the purpose of the rings is to save the elves, and time is important for that.
But if Elrond had taken the rings from Eregion, or if he separated from Galadriel early in their journey and already decided they must not be used, then he is not under a time sensitive deadline, as he doesn't want the rings to be used. And could take a less obvious route hoping that any one who pursued him would assume he took the most direct route.
If that is the case the Bridge could simply have been destroyed by the same means that Moria was damaged. Especially if that canyon is part of the same fault line that runs through Mt Doom.
There are many ways things could occur. Making assumptions that one must equal the other is not rational. Nor is it based on facts as presented.

Okay, two things that are slightly annoying:
First before episode 1 you said you will measure the season by ignoring lore that hasn't been told by season 1 or the movies and literally 2 minutes after you start episode 1 you are like "that didn't happen in the lore" and that repeats all the time.half of the the things you say is related to what you know about the deeper lore.
Second "they explain too many details", and the next thing you say is "those background npc didnt got a name" and this or that didnt got explained.
I generally agree that the entire elf storyline is flawed and the flow overall is too slow.
About sauron being extremely powerful, isnt sauron basically an evil angel?
And isnt he putting most of his power in to the one ring?
So until that one ring is forged, shouldn't he be way more powerful than in the movies?

It's almost like the showrunners, who said they'd be true to the lore but a couple of minutes in and one can see that's not the case...
Regarding Sauron: I think the issue is that Sauron is supposed to be very evil but he also got killed by a bunch of Orcs because he failed at his speech.
Either make Sauron a very powerful evil being or have him be stabbed by Orcs and then hang out on a raft. But both just doesn't match well.

    • @markwood6056
      @markwood6056 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@Lothiril The show runners have also stated that they are making changes, compressing time and events, changing characters, and making up things (all things that can't be true if strictly following lore. So clearly they didn't mean that every aspect is verbatim based on the books). Both statements can't be true. What can be true is that they are taking pieces of lore and using them in their story. So that they are using Lore to tell their story how they see it. Like for example Sauron' affinity to were wolves is likely why he was so easily able to control the Warg. Again using lore based info to tell their story. Hell you could have an adaption from Lord of the Rings of Gandalf and Gwaihir having a relationship and claim its based off of lore. How so. Well, Tolkien;s lore does show interspecies mating. Be it a Maiar mating with an Elf. Be it an Elf mating with a man. We also know that in Tolkien's world some creatures are sentient beings. Like Eagles, for example. And we have Gwaihir grasping a naked Gandalf. Thus you could base a story based on lore that adapted that into a physical relationship and actually have some basis in lore. I wouldn't;t want to see it, but it's something that could be done, and one could reasonably say its based on the lore of Tolkiens world.
Sauron / Halbrand has been shown to have superior strength. Both as just Halbrand and certain as Sauron. As Sauron he takes dozens of mortal blows. He after already receiving what would be a mortal blow manages to physical throw orcs across the room and into walls. That isn't something a mortal man could do. As Halbrand we get two early references that he might have abilities above what a mortal man in his shape could do. We see a shipwrecked Halbrand, who manages with out food and a very small supply of water, managed to travel down into the depths to get to Galadriel, manage to free her, and manage to bring her back to the surface during a major storm. An experienced diver and swimmer who is in good shape would manage that. Halbrand's endurance should be low, as a mortal man shipwrecked without food, and again little water. Then you have his defending himself against four men, and how brutal his take down of them is. It hints of either really solid training and knowledge of humans weak points. Or him having a strength level superior to a mortal man of his frame. Then in his Halbranf form in Mordor, he takes beatings without flenching. He holds with his hand a bone, where a Warg with its jaw has the other end. The Warg's Jaw like most animals should provide far more force then what a human hand could grasp. The Warg should easily be able to take it away. And this is before he starts to speak and control it. Again all subtile things indicating strength and endurance that are above a mortal man of his frame.

Why would Celebrimbor be packing? Either the Rings worked, so he has no reason to pack, or they didn't work and he still has no reason to pack until he's directly told. Like, the only urgency there was was to "save" the Elves. If they weren't saved they'd have to leave Middle-Earth but that itself is not urgent. And I don't think Sauron is meant to be seen as omniscient, anything that Celelbrimbor cannot immediately verify Sauron can just make up, just because it happens to be true doesn't mean Sauron knows that. Also showing how ithildîn gets made (and all other "prequel-y" things) is simply cool, I don't think there needs to be anything more to it.

Mordor is just a few days ride from Eregion. Lindon is a few weeks from Eregion, so Sauron could have easily gone to Adar and come back within the time it took them to get to Lindon and have the whole rings debacle. In many ways, time pressure is realistic as they take into account the slowness of travel and news. The round trip between Eregion and Lindon would have taken months. Gil Galad gave them 3 months in the previous season and Galadriel and Elrond rode with the rings to let him know they found a solution (well, Elrond obviously not). Celebrimbor was not with them because Gil Galad would have still needed to test the rings and make a decision that would later be communicated to all elves. The elves leaving Middle Earth was always going to take years. The dwarves are also just a few days trip from Eregion, so Sauron can easily influence the dwarves and orcs in the area of Eregion before anyone from Lindon actually makes it back.

Gil Gilad, my man, you are High king of the Noldor elves, how does nobody listen to you? How does Elrond not get punished for stealing the rings while potentially killing all the elves to some disease? How does Galadriel suffer no consequences for lying about Sauron? 😂

This stuff should’ve happened in the 1st season.
With the mixed up, time compression of the Second Age, Gil-galad is either shy of 150 or just over 3,500. , a few centuries over Elrond. Galadriel is at least as old, if not older than Celebrimbor, at between 1,500 and 5,000, maybe older. Just over 1,600 and maybe 3,000 respectively. Depending on conversion between the Years of the Trees and the solar year.
The bell on the water well was an alarm, letting everyone know for miles around that someone was stealing water.
I can see the Pitch Meeting for when the Not-Hobbits flew off.
    Producer Guy:
"boy its going to be hard for them to survive that."
    Screenwriter Guy:
"Actual it's going to be super easy, barely an inconvenience."
    PG:
    "Oh Really?"
    SWG:
"You see, because they didn't come down on screen. So they are fine."
    PG:
    "Well OK then."
Regardless of how the other Rings are made and how Celebrimbor’s storyline goes and how the lesser Rings are distributed in the books, my head-canon for that is the flashback scenes from the ‘Shadow of Mordor’ and ‘Shadow of War’ games.

  • @markwood6056
    @markwood6056 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

Lindon and Eregion aren't close so no, Celebrimbor wouldn't know. He also argued against Gil-Galad in abandoning Eregion. So we have knowledge already that he was in no hurry to depart. He is also shown to be obsessive about his crafting. He isn't just going to pack up everything and make his way to Lindon without first discovering if the rings worked (now if the rings were never crafted he probably would have). That would take weeks. even at fastest travel time. He would very much wait for news to get back to him. And since he is obsessive about crafting, he wouldn't just set their doing nothing. He would keep crafting trying again to create something anything new.
So yeah you are pretty much off base about Celebrimbor's reason for still be there, still working, and not leaving.

In general, I am enjoying this season. Probably my biggest issue with it is the conflict between the elves does feel a bit contrived and it’s not explained enough for me to understand their behavior towards each other. I had the same issue with it last season, and the same feeling with the Numenor storyline. I agree with their comments here that it is hard to understand the relationship between Gilgalad and Galadriel. I would expand that to include many of the relationships between the elves and the relationships between the Numenorians, since I have already seen Numenor centric episode three. I highly recommend the Rings and Realms podcast on TH-cam. They are doing a fantastic job, just like they did for season one, of taking a deeper look into some specific aspects of the show and seeing how they relate to themes explored by Tolkien.

About showing it take time for Elves to change their minds. That is something actually very true to the nature of Elves. TNot to present that makes there Elves seem no different besides physical traits then mortals. When they also due to their immortality also see the world and are impacted by it in different ways. There is a lot of discussion about whom are older the Ents are the Elves and evidence for both points of view. And we see how these near immortals are so slow to change and take action. Now certain things get the Ents to move like the wind, just as a view events make the eleven due so (the destruction of the two trees are a great example).
So I actually love the pacing of this. And let's be exceedingly clear. When Tolkien presented full narrative stories in this setting, he didn't rush anything. The pacing of this show for its faults is far closet to Tolkien pacing then Jacksons adaption of Lord of the Rings.

So, there is something that has really bothered me in the first two episodes: Why is Elrond the one freaking out about the rings and not Galadriel? Isn't she the one who spent hundreds of years and last season hunting Sauron and hating him even when everyone was already over it? She basically mobilized a nation to find the fucker and SHE was tricked by him. Why is she like "nahh bro we chill now" ????

    • @davidbergfors6820

Because she believes in the rings, does have one on her finger, and feels no corruption. Elrond has not given himself time to even really look at the ring, Círdan took one gander and changed his mind about them, I think that's the clue you need to not be bothered.

But it’s great, and the vast majority of your nitpicks result either from you talking over the explanation (which, sure, it’s a reaction video, you’re trying to provide content, we get it, but it’s not the show’s fault you’re talking over it) or you simply lacking the patience to appreciate characterization and such. Just stick to HotD and other TikTok attention span trash like that for the channel, maybe? Maybe a show like this isn’t good for the channel, if you can’t just watch and take it in.
