If you want to replicate real climbs indoors, ROUVY is by far the best. My times and power data for climbs on ROUVY are almost identical to those on the same climbs in real life. Superb! Zwift is ludicrously flattering.
Thanks a lot Illy, you made a very good analysis and agree with you 100%, indieVelo made a new mountain just make for us climbers, merci encore for your good work on this video ;-))
Great video, really interesting. I really love that Zwift is basically like a video game I can play with my friends but agree that its not really a simulation of real cycling. Good to know there are better options out there I haven't tried, thanks for opening my eyes to that. In BKool's defence, at least that cornering line at 20:45 seems spot on realistic for how I'd take a hairpin...
Thanks Nick! Definitely, the fact that it isn't totally trying to replicate reality (along with the huge social aspect etc.) is part of the whole appeal (though I'll still moan when I get dropped ;)). Hahha that was a true highlight...and worringly accurate for me too 🤣
@@illicgardnerHi, may i ask you review Kinomap and compare against Rouvy? I tried but i didn’t got to work correctly because i never managed to climb in real world yet and setup to behave closer to real world. For me Rouvy is a lot easier to work, but Kinomap has a lot more options to choose.
It's great to see a review by two things: A female (gents tend to be way technical) and a amateur racer. Thank you Illi. zwift has your trainer set to 50% of effort. That makes it easier to ride up hills. This makes it so people like me to climb hills like Alpe du Zwift.
edit: forgot to ask, those pants are really nice, and I'd want to find similar ones. Do they have bibs or where can I find similar ones? I usually buy at certain sports stores and they are usually just plain dark in colour and not much else, but yours are fine with me
@@xosece thanks very much! They're dhb flashlight bibs (there's a whole range - www.dhbsport.com/collections/flashlight; available at various online retailers), super comfy!
@@illicgardner thanks Illi! There is like a unisex model (I think L is ideal for me, I am like 1,82m height wise). I can't find the words to tell that I am grateful, specially when I have to use them with someone I admire soooooo much, without taking anything away from other people, but that's the way it is. Thanks girl
I kind of like the real video platforms but as you highlight the experience is really variable according to traffic conditions and how the person who filmed it rode. I remember one particularly scenic ride on Fulgaz except the filmer had 2 very close calls with traffic and I really don’t need that stress on my indoor rides!!!
If it is to the physics IndiVelo is by far the best it is the only platform that's taking wind, drafting and cornering in account. For real world rides Rouvy is OK, the physics are really good and natural, but it depends on the gpx-heights of the uploaded the routes. The physics of Bkool are the least of all platforms, but Bkool has a mix of real-world and 3D generated routes. You can even upload your own route (gpx). If you like cycling on the track, Bkool has three velodromes. If you need motivation, like gamification or want to race against others, Zwift is your platform.
I have also noticed that MyWhoosh is much more difficult than Zwift and I ride a much faster pace in the real world compared to myWhoosh. In real life at least 2-3 kph higher average speed than MyWhoosh.
Oh, you’re my favorite climber. Zwift is faster because it uses your weight, not your weight on a bicycle. Shoes, helmet, water plus a carbon frame are all overlooked.
Haven't tried bkool but I hate them! They have a virtual route up my favourite local climb. And for some reason they have been uploaded as real rides and they are wildly inconsistent with real ride some them going 30plus up a 14% climb with under 2w pr kg 😅 and they didn't wanna help solve the problem 👎
Zwift still has the best overall experience. Mywhoosh definetly looks the best, avatar animations and bike movement matters for realism, and rouvy and bkool is dissapointing here. Fulgaz doesn't even count as it's just videos that play.

I'm happy I left Zwift and joined Rouvy. I prefer to ride on virtual roads that look like something I could ride in real life.
This video is strangely relaxing...your voice is calming.
Great video. In Zwift I think you can put difficulty up to 100% and as far as I know it will make it feel as close as possible to the real climb.
Great review! You’re analysis is a big help for me to choose the virtual app most suitable for my cycling goals.
Thanks for this, new Zwifter here and enjoying it alot!
Nice work Illi!, tried them all, IndieVelo and Rouvy are the most realistic for me.

I use Rouvy but don't ride at 5w/kg up the hills. Very impressive. Great shot at 00:11 seconds too.

This is a great video. A very objective view from a top climber. Many thanks.

super interesting video! Wish there was more videos like this comparing a certain platform to how it actually feels in real life

Love climbing Rouvy for me with wahoo climb is probably the most realistic
Being a newbie I haven’t joined any yet, thanks for the informative review.
Great, detailed analysis. And nice SJBC jersey!
You are funny 😂👍👍👍 like it. I like Zwift, Rouvy, and Rgt(Rip) also mywhoosh is fun

Brilliant video. Well done and on so many platforms. Age old question remains - do we want real, easy, or hard?
Thank you very much for your comparison very interesting!
Nice comparison, thanks

For me Rouvy is superior to zwift and that why I move to Rouvy for indoor cycling
Why on earth does everyone ride in chase view? Put it in cockpit view!!!! Makes it so much better.

DISCLAIMER: She’s super smart and twice as funny 🎉🎉😂😂
So when are you becoming a Zwift Ambassador 😂
I'm expecting to mysteriously drop back to level 1 any day now 😆

You can have real videos in Bkool especially Col d'Aspin
24:13 illi NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, MY EYES 😪
even though I'm not in the slightest interested in the matter it was still a very good watch. good vid

Rocker plate is a must
This is really great but your saddle looks way too high.
I would have said the same, but have you seen how fast Illi is going up a real hill!!
@@1carusjohn32 And potentially even faster!
