A quiet and rewarding out-and-back climb just above Nice, Mont Chauve’s south-facing slopes provide ideal grounds for some mild winter climbing. There's nothing overly demanding about the gradients but continuous glimpses of the hill and switchbacks above you threaten to induce some serious lassitude if your legs aren’t feeling top-notch (mine weren’t). Been saving this until I was in a state to actually enjoy it and it did not disappoint 😍 what a cracking video, a proper tribute to a wonderful part of the world, well beyond just the headline climbs and Instagram style snapshots. Thanks for sharing this, I'm in a bit of a funny mindset thinking about cycling at the moment but this was a cracking reminder of everything I love about it.

    Absolutely amazing video! Thanks for creating it and writing the Guide - and wow, you make climbing look like so easy! 🙂 I started climbing in the eastern alps and work my way up to the west and this is so helpful! 🚵‍♂😍 One question: How do you create the overlays (cadence, heartrate, power etc)? Is this done with Garmin Virb? (thx!)

    Very cool rides and video! You hammer past people left & right - chapeau! The tunnels were bonkers! It's cool you did the HR Alpes '22; I did the HR Alpes '23 version & got destroyed. Will watch this after work. I foolishly rode a mixture of malaucene, sault and bedoin 9 times in the week before Xmas last year (with the 3 climb cingles challenge on the final day) - all because I thought I was being smart and invincible. It was on Rouvy though and there were plenty of times when my cadence dropped to the 30s. Maybe I will try for real in future.

    The problem with cheddar is that it gets less interesting as it goes up. You don't get good views at the top and the gradients stop being a challenge. I view it as a challenging descent, even though you usually have a headwind coming down, and would take Rodney Stoke or Draycott steep as the climb. Blagdon and Highfield on the other side are the toughest ones. Deerleap has the best views. Never ever ride cheddar on a weekend or bank holiday. Traumatic.

    There's two climbs out of the Wye Valley I'd put in the same bracket. Out of Llandogo from the A466 head up the hill and then right to the priory. This is absolutely evil, around 150m of climbing in less than 1km, pitches of 25-30% and almost unrideable surface. The other is heading in the same direction but from Tintern, follow the forge road but take a left at every junction. Long section of 20% gives way to a shallower gradient before going up again to 18-19 through the woods after the farm. Did this with bags on advice from a man with ridiculous calfs.

    • @illicgardner
      @illicgardner 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think I know the Llandogo climb you mean (although haven't ridden it, opted for the easier way up!) -- not sure I want to either, moss + gravel is definitely far worse than the bumps of Rhyw! Might have to investigate the Tintern one...but only if the roads are very dry 😆
