I read that his father and grandparents died in the earthquake/tsunami when Roki was eleven years old. So sad. He is a young man who has gone through a lot. Bless him.

He’s not actually. There are some instances when it sounds like a Google translate product. Or, like here, he just translates the gist. Remember the miscommunication about Ohtani meeting the fan who caught his baseball? Ohtani didn’t actually say he met her. He said “after talks with…” without a subject, but Will said “I” making Ohtani look like a liar.

He should be fine with the group of players around him. From what I understand Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman engage heavily with foreign players to help it be fun and engaging for him. And also now with Shohei being the veteran he knows what its like and im sure he will help guide Roki every step of the way. Yoshi is his buddy so you know he's going to be there for him every step of the way as well. Go Dodgers!

i'm pretty new to MLB, but what does a minor league contract entail? is it similar to a two-way contract in the NBA where a player bounce back and forth between NBA games and NBA G-League games?
MLB has a rule that a player from another country plays amateur baseball if he's under 25, so he can only sign a minor league contract and get the minimum. Players from another country can pretty much decide what team they want to play for. It's a dumb rule that needs to go away. Sasaki is the best pitcher coming out of Japan since Darvish and he deserves a Major League contract. One caveat about him, he's maybe injured prone. Last year he made some adjustment to prevent future injuries.
@@Koum_Bets it’s the only way Japanese teams can guarantee to either retain their talent or get money. Not sure why people are looking at these players like rookies being drafted instead of free agents. lol NPB is not a farm system for MLB
There is a rule that foreign players under the age of 25 can only sign minor league contracts, but they can play in the major leagues. When Ohtani first played in the major leagues, it was also a minor league contract.
