When he mentioned experiencing a disaster, he was referring to the 2011 Tsunami where at the age of 9 he lost his father and grandparents. He learned that life can change in at any time without warning. Many feel that is why he decided not to wait until the requisite years before coming to MLB as a free agent. He knows he wasn't going to make the same money, but he didn't care about that. He wanted to play in the Major Leagues now, because who knows what is going to happen 5 years from now.
So they need to get a guide over there for that purpose like there might be a Zen guide that might be able to help too. Go Dodgers! Just joking. Not really
Seems like a great young man. It seems like Japanese players are almost always fool proof at being nice guys and great role models to kids watching as fans. Love that he connected with LA over the recent loss because he went through some horrible shit with losing his own family. Couldn't be more excited. Team Japan!
Having lost both his Father and Grandfather to natural disasters, it's quite poetic for him to end up in a Dodgers' uniform at this time. Best of luck, Roki and go Dodgers.
Stability something the Padres doesn't have. I truly believe he had the Dodgers & Padres in top of his list but the lawsuit & last presentation from each team showed him which team was best.
Agreed, but not just from the Padres troubles. Last year, it was revealed that Shohei had a clause to leave the team if Friedman was no longer with the Dodgers. This could be common, but I have never heard of a player wanting this in their contract. Friedman will get into the HoF as an executive (I think that’s a thing for MLB…) because so many successful recruits and key Dodgers specifically call him out as a major factor in their coming here/being here.
Yes, he's tall, isn't he? But Roki Sasaki looked short when he was greeted by the Lakers' star players last night, such as LeBron James, Hachimura, and others. How tall are those basketball players? I will need a ladder when I talk with them!
