I would suggest that when ranking states, an important factor should be net migration rates. If people are moving into a state it should be higher on the list than states where people are leaving.
How do you figure ? Only reason people are moving there is because it’s cheap - why is it cheap? Because of all the issues and lack of opportunity. Theres a reason California, New York, and Washington are expensive - because people are willing to pay more to live there. No ones going to pay California prices in Kentucky, Mississippi, West Virginia, or even Texas (which is why they sell their 1 BR shack in California and get a mansion in Texas).
Migration wouldn’t be the greatest metric, the main reason why people leave states is cost of living (ie. California). Cost of living is most certainly an important metric, but it’s not everything (who would want to live in Mississippi?) it’s better to look at it holistically.
As a Hoosier (someone from Indiana) I can agree that you aren't missing much if you don't drive through it. However, we make up for it with a great capital city, Indianapolis. Also we are one of the largest and loudest fanbases for college sports (mostly basketball).
I was in New Mexico recently for vacation, and seeing your placement of it felt so validating stg. I felt really uncomfortable there and I could never pin down why. Excited to see how Michigan ranks! Edit: omg as a Michigander that placement made me almost burst out laughing. I kinda wasn't expecting to see it so low, but it's a fair placement, and I'm glad you had good things to say about it
These rankings are good info but doesn't mean places are that bad. Mississippi for example has many nice places and is bogged down by education and city of Jackson being so bad.
I can’t believe that my state made first! You should’ve also included the best small villages and towns in the nation, because everywhere I go in my town is super nice and always helpful.
Really? What hellhole did you move there FROM? Granted, Utah is beautiful. However, the people there remind me of the movie "Stepford wives". Have you noticed that yet??
Yep, that weirdo is right. Stepford wives, boring, weird, creepy and all that. Come visit, spend money, and leave before something terrible happens to you. There is absolutely nothing to see here worth moving here. Did you know we have horns?
Agreed. It's the only highly ranked state on this list I would refuse to live in. Mormon capital, ugh. That said, it was great to visit for the scenery.@@efandmk3382
I’m in Nevada, and I’m fine living here and working full time, but if I ever have a kid, I’d rather raise them in New England. I was born there, and my dad had to move us out because of the job market, but now? What state doesn’t want an experienced bacteriologist? Nevada is said to have all the big city problems and none of the big city benefits, but when they’re between projects, the roads and parking are great. But can you please mark the parking lots a bit better? Or reprogram the Garmins to guide you to them instead of to the front of the buildings? I lived in Virginia for a while, in the Hampton Roads area, and the commutes and schools were awful. But there’s tons of fun stuff to do on weekends (a zoo, museums, historical Jamestown and Williamsburg, amusement parks and water parks and a beach the whole family can enjoy), so I’d recommend a family vacation there. Bring bug repellent.
Just an FYI there is a typo on the Massachusetts and Utah number ranking. Massachusetts got first, but it has the number 3 on it 😂. Great video though!
Yeah i caught that at the end 😂 Spent 3 days editing the video and I double checked through most of it, but i guess i was tired and missed that last last one at the end. Hope you enjoyed!
West Virginia here, I don’t know how old your information is, I assume really old. We’re experiencing tens of thousands of people coming to our state year after year for vacations, and outdoor adventures with many moving permanently. We have America’s newest national park, the best white water rafting on the east coast, ski resorts, superb fishing, an awesome lake known as the little Bahama of the north, super hiking trails, some of the longest ATV trails in America and much more among the oldest mountains in the world. Not to mention many high tech and manufacturing companies moving to “Almost Heaven”. You need to check current information.
if you do ever come here, i would recommend virginia, its a very pretty state, it has really nice people, and its great living if you find a good town thats not too tiny
If you are serious about emigrating, do research carefully. Political information is easy to get, but a serious quality of life assessment is another matter. If you are from a first world country with a high cost of living and a cosmopolitan culture, do not move to an economically depressed region…the politics and the culture will be a serious blow. Guns are everywhere in the USA…often in the hands of irresponsible people. Americans are messy…trash, potholes in the roads… But if you are realistic, prepared, and curious…you will not be bored.

I’ve lived in Reno and would never go to Las Vegas. Pyramid Lake is beautiful . I’ve been here since 1997 and the health care is great and I was a nurse for 52 years. Lake Tahoe is beautiful and the economy is booming. Great Restaurants. Fine people . Lots of wilderness to explore. The Burning Man festival that was once judged has changed the City. The Black Rock desert is incredible and for one week out of the year Black Rock City has a post office and listed as a city. The art community is amazing and many of the art installations are purchased by the city of Reno and displayed for everyone to enjoy. I was born an raised in Wisconsin and Reno has attracted many from my home state. I lived in the North Woods for 13 years, close to the Upper Peninsula and Lake Superior. Yes , the winters were tough at times, but the North Woods area has some of the best cross country skiing trails in the US.

Very interesting video! As far as the 50 states went, I thought the state that would end up dead last would be West Virginia, and I thought the #1 state would be Utah.
One of the highest cost of living, if not the highest in the whole country!.....That means it doesn't deserve to be the number one (and not even to be among the first 10!).😊
As we know statistics can be found in many places, however Las Vegas averages .3 inches of snow a year. Reno averages around 22 inches. .3 inches per year is not much snow.
@@eclipticsonata1313 Economy is a very important factor. California would rank higher if it wasn't for the ridiculous cost of living and crazy politics. Texas would rank higher if it had California's weather and scenery.

In the Minnesota section, you mentioned that warm weather leads to longer lifespans, but MN is not the only exception! The Nordic countries are also among the happiest and healthiest places in the world, and MN isn't the only cold state that tops the list. Some people thrive in the cold, and if you combine an all-seasons-loving population with decent healthcare, a happy life follows.
100% agree! I’m a Minnesotan and I have a lot of pride in my state. I feel that Minnesota is really underrated in most categories. I love the people, the activities, the nature, the food, and the ever expanding policies that make this state really flourish
Yeah Minnesota is honestly similar to the Nordic countries and Canada in showing that with a good government, healthcare, and economy, weather isn't as much of a factor. Usually places with good weather have long life expectancies regardless of those factors however. For example: Spain, Italy, and Greece definitely aren't wealthy, but boast some of the happiest and healthiest lives!
@pelletrouge3032 It's not necessarily that MN's is so great, it's that pretty much every other state is worse 😔 The US doesn't put a lot of priority on this.
Make an video "every state that is a victim of the Detroit effect" Detroit effect: an effect created by me, the Detroit effect is when an state has only one big city, if you live away from that city your life is Good or avarege, but if you live near or in the city your life is an hell hole, like Michigan whit Detroit or Illinois whit Chicago, the only ways to avoid that effect is, or having more than one big city like California that has San Francisco, LA etc, or not having any big city at all like Vermont
My list: 1. New York (largely due to NYC) 2. Massachussetts 3. Illinois (entirely due to Chicago) 4. Pennsylvania 5. Maryland 6. California 7. Florida (theme parks and Miami) 8. Vermont/New Hampshire/Maine 11. North Carolina 12. New Jersey 13. Virginia 14. Wisconsin/Minnesota 16. Colorado 17. Texas 18. Wyoming/Colorado 18 onward. Everything else. Probably Oregon and Washington a little further up idk

As an Arkansan, if you want to come here, go to northwest arkansas. The ozark mountains are pretty and it has a good economy, with many big businesses rooted there, including Walmart. Everywhere else in the state is basically just Mississippi and Louisiana.
Great ranking, I'll probably move to Mass (from RI) next year. Subjectively, I think I prefer NH but it makes sense having MA higher from a statistical standpoint. The only ones I strongly disagreed with were CA, NY, and WY. California and New York have their issues, but so many great things to offer and lots of beautiful nature- probably both top 15 for me. Wyoming is super boring and the majority of the state is empty with much of it being plains, but the mountainous areas are definitely stunning.
Mississippi may rate last but as a move in I can tell you some of these things are true but I can also say it is one of the nicest places to live. The people are kind and caring and the weather is great except for July and August. You don’t have to be money hungry to live here. Comparing us to Bangladesh is just totally wrong.
When they talk about Mass having the best education it's not the quality of the colleges and universities they are talking about (although many are among the best in the nation). They are talking about the quality of their public education system. Also to the fact that Mass has the highest percentage of citizens with college and advanced degrees.

THANK YOU
As a Hoosier (someone from Indiana) I can agree that you aren't missing much if you don't drive through it. However, we make up for it with a great capital city, Indianapolis. Also we are one of the largest and loudest fanbases for college sports (mostly basketball).
As another Hoosier, I forgot Indiana was a place for a second.
Indiana makes up for it in a lot of ways, especially with all of their lakes & rivers & their festivals!
Indianapolis is the powerhouse economy of the state, but it's kind of a boring city. Not much tourism there.
I was in New Mexico recently for vacation, and seeing your placement of it felt so validating stg. I felt really uncomfortable there and I could never pin down why.
Excited to see how Michigan ranks!
Edit: omg as a Michigander that placement made me almost burst out laughing. I kinda wasn't expecting to see it so low, but it's a fair placement, and I'm glad you had good things to say about it
Personally I love new mexico and I've never felt uncomfortable there. To each their own
These rankings are good info but doesn't mean places are that bad. Mississippi for example has many nice places and is bogged down by education and city of Jackson being so bad.
The video we've all been waiting for 👏🏼
Haha hope you enjoyed!
I can’t believe that my state made first! You should’ve also included the best small villages and towns in the nation, because everywhere I go in my town is super nice and always helpful.
As a person living in Cincinnati it is a very good place to live with lots of forests, rivers, lakes, and fishing spots

Heyyyy I just moved to Utah and I am loving it! 🎉
It's a GREAT STATE!
@@FromHeretoThereI love your channel man can you make a video about your favorite states like top twenty or whatever you like
Great video! Love Iowa & Maine
Amazing video - great job!
I am glad you touched on the mass construction here in Las Vegas.
As a cab driver it is frustrating.

Thank you. I like to watch the video, to see what the other states look like. It's also interesting to know what places are good & which ones are bad.
You should do one with Canadian provinces included to see where they end up in the sea of states

Americans are messy…trash, potholes in the roads…
But if you are realistic, prepared, and curious…you will not be bored.

You are indeed correct that Massholes support much of New Hampshire. Lived there for 2 decades and the fall foliage, lakes, mountains, etc attract tourists from the lower 3 states: MA, CT, & RI. I was shocked it was at number 2. I am a proud former NH resident. 🙂

This is very subjective. Depends what you think is important and what your willing to look the other way on
I’ve lived in Reno and would never go to Las Vegas.

Very educational video I must say!
Very interesting video! As far as the 50 states went, I thought the state that would end up dead last would be West Virginia, and I thought the #1 state would be Utah.

You mentioned almost no snow in Las Vegas. Here in the better city, Reno, we got 6-8 inches of snow last night.
Yeah Reno definitely gets a fair amount as it's right near Lake Tahoe. It usually only snows once every 5-10years in Vegas
I was in San Diego when snowed so it can happen almost anywhere.
As we know statistics can be found in many places, however Las Vegas averages .3 inches of snow a year. Reno averages around 22 inches. .3 inches per year is not much snow.
Basically all the cold states are better than the warm states, and the average temperature states are average.

Can’t believe someone tried arguing that Boston was more dangerous than other US cities
It's definitely one if, if not THE safest big cities.
It’s fascinating/ironic how the wealthiest states work the least. Great video!
Work smarter, not harder, I guess? Thanks!
I noticed that too.
I worked in Boston for a California based firm. Some Boston airhead opined to me that Californians did not seem to WORK…and before giving a thought I spurted out…”Well, given the price of our real estate, Someone has to be pulling in some serious cash.
One thing I did notice..,color, of any kind beyond an oh so tasteful tiny polka dot on a necktie, Boston’s well employed classes all seemed to be dressed for the funeral of a rich uncle..
Super cool video, very enjoyable not just educational
Knowing state qualities helps retirement planning. Always good to weigh options for a fulfilling retirement.
@@FromHeretoThereI still don’t think MN healthcare is that great. I haven’t lived there for a little while though so lmk if I’m wrong
Considering that Minnesota largely _is_ Scandinavia based on historical immigration patterns, it's not much of a surprise.
@pelletrouge3032 It's not necessarily that MN's is so great, it's that pretty much every other state is worse 😔 The US doesn't put a lot of priority on this.
Make an video "every state that is a victim of the Detroit effect"
Detroit effect: an effect created by me, the Detroit effect is when an state has only one big city, if you live away from that city your life is Good or avarege, but if you live near or in the city your life is an hell hole, like Michigan whit Detroit or Illinois whit Chicago, the only ways to avoid that effect is, or having more than one big city like California that has San Francisco, LA etc, or not having any big city at all like Vermont
I'm from the northern lower peninsula of Michigan. When I went to Detriot, I barely saw anything "wrong." (Plus, it's getting better there.)

It depends on what part of the state i would guess
From all the stuff we hear from the Texas GOP, you'd think Texas would rate better than 33.

So Massachusetts has the best education and then Harvard happens...
When they talk about Mass having the best education it's not the quality of the colleges and universities they are talking about (although many are among the best in the nation). They are talking about the quality of their public education system. Also to the fact that Mass has the highest percentage of citizens with college and advanced degrees.
