    For anybody considering migrating to any of those countries, please be aware these aren't the only factors that determine the quality of life in a place.
    I'm a German that lived in Italy and has been living in Greece for many years.
    There are things we can't measure easily that influence how satisfied you'll be in a new country like how compatible you are with their culture or how easy it is to make friends, difficulty level of the local language, foods available, bureaucracy, how to locals view your home country, job opportunities for foreigners, ...
    If you like living close to the sea and are an extrovert, Austria and Switzerland will make you feel miserable. If you are a vegan, the less westernised a country is, the more difficult it is to find vegan options.
    Also consider that places like Germany, Sweden or Ireland might offer a good job market and strong economy, but very difficult housing situation.
    The weather also really is important. Not everyone can deal with cloudy, rainy weather on 250 days a year or with the winter darkness in the north.

      There really are very few places that have great climate for me. Sweden (except its southern part and coastlines) is almost perfect.
      I prefer real winter with snow and ice for months. But the most important part is that summers don't go higher than 25° (it's rare in Sweden). Summers are ok in Ireland and as far down south as the Netherlands, but there is no winter there.
      Long winter nights are not a problem for me. I am more concerned with bright summer nights in the North. That is why I wouldn't choose the northern part of Sweden. Somewhere between Örebro and Östersund should be great.

    Ireland is a great example of why statistics if not understood completely and in context can be deceiving. Many Irish are leaving their own country and they are certainly not happy with the way they have been managed as a whole. Many of them are actually struggling economically despite having such a high GDP per capita (distorted by big corporations based in that country). GDP wealth in Ireland doesn’t represent real wealth.

    I'm from the Netherlands and moved to southern Spain a little over a year ago.... so I moved "down the ladder" theoretically. 🤣 My life in the Netherlands was not bad at all... But I dreaded the 6 months of cold rainy "fall" weather each year and I wanted to live somewhere more relaxed, less crowded and have nice weather year-round. So far it's been great, I have no regrets. In the end it all boils down to personal preference and what you want out of life. ✌

    • @SeverityOne
      @SeverityOne 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +36

      Well, I moved from the Netherlands to Malta 23 years ago. Even further down the ladder, so to say.
      We have better weather than Spain. 🙂 While it can be scorching hot, especially now with global warming, the sea moderates a great deal, and we NEVER have snow.
      You wouldn't think of the Netherlands as crowded if you lived in Malta. The population density is about 3.5 times that of the Netherlands. Even the Randstad doesn't come close to the average population density of Malta.
      One thing that I did learn, though, is that the Dutch complain way too much about their own country. Everything is well organised, they have the best roads in Europe, they have the best (and most expensive) healthcare in Europe.
      Would I move back to the Netherlands? No. Once you've lived abroad long enough, there will come a day where you realise that you and your native country have drifted apart. You realise that you're getting older, that travel isn't as easy as it once was, and that the number of times that you'll meet your parents in person can be counted on the fingers of at most two hands. But you're not really an integral part of your adoptive country either. And that yields some very fundamental questions about what you really are.
      Migrating can be very enriching, but it's not to be taken lightly. And that, again, is something that many Dutch don't quite realise.

    • @omniradius6908
      @omniradius6908 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @@SeverityOne Funny you mention living in Malta, I have actually been there twice, so yes I KNOW how crowded it is haha!
      Also one of the reasons I wouldn't move there (also because it is a small island and I'd feel a little limited in my abilities to explore and drive long distances to other places or countries).
      Weather wise, well I live close to Alicante and we have probably one of the sunniest climates in Europe, so I doubt Malta will have more sunny weather 😜
      But yea I agree it is a big step to migrate and it has its consequences, for sure.

    • @SeverityOne
      @SeverityOne 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@omniradius6908 Hey, I said the best weather, not the sunniest. Although Wikipedia lists a considerably higher number of sunshine hours for Malta than Alicante. Overall, it lists Malta is being a bit warmer and sunnier than Alicante. And contrary to some random website, Wikipedia cites sources.
      It makes sense, though: Malta is one of the southernmost places in Europe, roughly at the same parallel as Gibraltar.
      Having said that, sunnier isn't necessarily better, as far as I'm concerned. You can't really go out in summer, and in fact, many people in Malta suffer from vitamin D deficiency.

      Yes, the narrator didn't say anything about that when mentioning Poland, did he? In fact, I seem to remember he said Britain was the only European country with 'free healthcare' as he termed it. (Of course, it's never actually free, as the people pay for it indirectly via taxes!!) We also used to have a 'free' healthcare system in the Netherlands which was abolished in 2006 (I think) by a totally malevolent cretin named Hoogervorst who at that time was minister of Public Health. He falsely claimed that the expenses for individual citizens would plummet due to 'competition' among the healthcare insurers and 'the workings of the market' and more of the same crap. Needless to say, the expenses didn't plummet. They skyrocketed. With the result that we probably now have one of the very worst healthcare systems in Europe.

      Learn geography before criticizing. Kazakhstan is 15% part of Europe. If the border between Europe and Asia is drawn along the Ural Mountains and the Ural (Zhaiyk) River, the European part of Kazakhstan includes the western (right bank) parts of West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions (including the administrative centers of the Uralsk and Atyrau regions) with a total population of slightly less than 1 million people, which is more than the population of such European countries as Iceland and Montenegro. However, more often geographers draw the border along the eastern side of the Ural Mountains and Mugodzhar, the Emba River and the northern shore of the Caspian Sea.

However take note, that Latvia is not the most sports-car-friendly and the best gems to visit are unuque hidden nature spots and preserves and countless bodies of water with some new tourist infrastructure in form of dreamy wild cottages and other places to stay. And our public transport is quite decent and widespread, at least better than you'd see anywhere in US. My city (Jurmala) has not only made it free for residents internally, they just made the rail trips to capital free too. And this old rail of ours just got the new trains last week, the first lot of entirely new trains with modern carriages since USSR times. Italy here, venice for the precision. Here it's not two different countries, it's a continuous change from north to south. We have so many dialects that to me it's culturally closer south of French than Sicily although I love the south of Italy more than my home town. Spain and Portugal are not thant far at all. I went to both last time in 2023 and it seems just matter of language but people are just exactly like me. Helthcare here is not only not bad at all and included on taxes and nobody has ever been rejected from a hospital. it's really rare that people go to privare healthcare to get a much better service. To me this hugely improve quality of life.

    Depression is indeed an important aspect to consider when discussing Iceland and its quality of life. Several factors might contribute to higher rates of depression in Iceland:
    Long, Dark Winters: Due to its northern location, Iceland experiences very long and dark winters. The lack of sunlight can increase the risk of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a type of depression.
    Isolation: Iceland's geographical isolation can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation for some individuals. This can be especially true for immigrants or those living in remote areas.
    Climatic Conditions: The harsh climate and extreme weather conditions can impact general well-being and contribute to lower mood levels.
    Genetic Factors: Some studies suggest that genetic factors may play a role in the prevalence of depression in certain populations, and Iceland has a relatively homogenous population, which facilitates genetic studies.
    Economic and Social Factors: Economic fluctuations, social isolation, and other socio-economic factors can also contribute to the mental health of the population.

And I can't even identify the language.

    • @brythonicman3267
      @brythonicman3267 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      I think the UK placing was pretty accurate, but not because of the reasons given here. Firstly the free health care system is broken with unacceptably long waiting lists for many operations and staff morale is very low. Regarding quality of life, it varies exceptionally from region to region, unless you're rich (and admittedly many are), the quality of life due to high crime rates and a high cost of living makes London a great place to visit but a shit hole to live in. The same in Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Liverpool and Bradford ect. On the other hand there are some amazing places to live in medium size towns and surrounding areas which are both cultured and prosperous yet with a lower cost of living than London. I also think the bad weather reputation Britain has is grossly over exaggerated, the summers vary but there are always weeks when the sun shines and the weather is in the high 20's, it even reached 40 degrees 2 years ago where I live which is a village near Lincoln. Also the food takes a bad wrap here due to it's past reputation, today there is an excellent choice of high standard restaurants and pubs offering international cuisine today and is a far better standard than many mainland European countries.

      We own at the same time some of the biggest economic giants of the world.
      MSC, Leonardo, ENI, Fincantieri, Pittini, all those luxury brands... FIAT...
      We are currently spending and investing more in countries like France and America than what these countries are doing to and in Italy.
      We own the third largest gold reserve in the world, basically equal to that of the International Monetary Found.

      "Oh! It's Italy! They lost ww2!"
