Dont worry Ichang. You dont have to feel guilty if they dont want to accept your money. Its their culture to belanja esp for non local. Tips for u while u are still in Kelantan.
    1) Use simple bahasa. It will helps u lot.
    2) Always said " kurang manis" for beverage
    3) They tend to look as anti social and try to avoid conversation (esp man). Its not that they are rude but most of the time because they try to avoid a conversation in English. Thats why, its helps alot if you know simple bahasa
    4) Kelantan also famous for their traditional elements. Maybe you can get some experience since u already in Kelantan.

Agreed with your statement bro. Mostly people in Kelantan or any state especially when they are old folks, they refused to talk much or shy not because they are rude or arrogant, but because most of then don't know how to speak English or any language from foreigner. That' s all. But if they know what you try to say in 'simple bahasa', they can speak well with you..hehe..if they refused to accept your money, not because they think you don't have money or what, but it's a treat especially for our guest from another country and at the same time promoting our country culture which love to treat people & generous..

Kelantan people are generally kind, welcoming, and generous because we don't have much. So we usually understand what does it feels not having much, hence a lot of sharing especially among us, even we don't know each other. If we see a fellow Kelantanese doing businesses inside the state, or outside the state, we are quick to support the business with whatever we have in our hands. It's a cultural thing I guess. Coming from a Kelantanese but been travelling and living outside of Kelantan since teenagers. I always feel happy and welcomed going back home town because a lot of small business owners always give something free for my kids(they do not speak Kelantan dialect, easy to recognize as kids born and bred outside of the state). I'm proud of these people, of my people 😊

It is common for the locals to treat (BELANJA) outsiders. Not just foreign people. Even among Malaysians but of different states. I am from KL. When I visited Kelantan once, the locals can notice that I am not a Kelantanese. They knew we were visiting. Me and my parents had laksam, laksa and drinks. It was supposed to be around RM25 for 3 people. I paid RM30 and the seller gave me back RM15 and said "takpo kito sedekoh" (it is okay we treat you). ;)

Saw some Kalentanese folks even bickers quite intensely among themselves because they want to be the one who treats all of them. The one who managed to treat everyone is the one with the widest smile afterwards. A rare sight to behold since most people will not bickers that much just to bleed their wallet and treat everyone. It warms my heart to saw that happened in front of me.
Having to know many Kelantanese personally and compared to the rest of my friends from other parts of Malaysia, they are the most reliable and kindest people to me as a friend. They are funny and humorous people. And, they are notorious for getting really violent if they were provoked. I found them as a really unique group of people.

Dear iChang & Jimmy it’s all comes from laksa but it’s cooked differently for each state such as laksa/laksam Kelantan, laksa Penang, laksa Johor, laksa Sarawak. Yayyyy so happy you now have tried our kelantanese desserts. And that’s our style, we like to give ppl free of charge especially for tourists like u. Are u still in KB, really wish to meet u and show u around.

Laksa or its variation are widespread across southeast asia. I loosely remember watching a documentary stating laksa originated from Indian region where laksa refer to the number lakh ie 100,000. The number suggests that the dish has 100,000 flavors since the way they cook it there is to slow cook many different herbs and spices over a few hours until all the flavors melt together.

Jimmy and Ichang, you also must try breakfast at “White House” cafe by the side of Masjid Muhammadi in Kota Bharu. Their coal fired kaya toast, half boiled eggs and kopi O kaw are to die for. These are prepared by oldies (more than 70 years old uncles) and their place is usually packed up by 730am-800 am. Simple breakfast but prepared with love and care

    P. S: unlike in japan, it's a normal occurrence to see stray cats everywhere in Malaysia. By the streets, at the market, by the shop corridors. Everyone doesn't mind these cats and some people would even randomly feed these stray and feral cats sometimes. Most of these cats are friendly with people maybe that's why Oyen (a nickname malaysian likes to call an orange/ginger cat, derived from the word "Orange/Oren") was brave to go near Jimmy and even punched him 😂
