For the mixed .wav file at -6db, should we take everything off (eqs etc.) and only mess with the faders? A little confused on what can be left in the mixed version, thanks!🙏🏻

Do you usually export everything for the stems? Like instead of just the drums, exporting the kick, snare, cymbal etc. ? If so, do you think it's unusual to not do so when selling them?

So with my untagged wav, do I leave it 100% untagged or do I still have the 1 customary tag at the beginning or drop?
it's up to you! Most people get rid of the tag at the drop but sometimes they leave the one at the very beginning.

You don't have to do the trackouts it's totally up to you what to sell, under what conditions and for how much. There are no forced rules, just common practice ✌️

Please! Can someone answer here...if I upload my mp3 beat with my own voice tags that I put in...if someone buys my wav file with the mp3, how are they going to get the untagged version of the mp3 if I put my own tags in it? Will they ask me to take it out or what? Please!
Man, most of the time they're are going to use the Wav one because it sounds better, it has more richness and details. And the site automatically creates and Mp3 version from your untagged Wav file.

you can lease beats to multiple people but exclusives are only supposed to be sold to one person

On the first WAV file you mentioned. Never mind ozone, because thats all you mentioned. what about compression on master output and countless other options you can place on master chain? You saying nothing on master output? or what?
2nd point put tags on it> Where do place the tags? intro verse chorus outro.?
Also Mp3 mastered. Ok ? At what volume on that one or should we all guess what it should be?
3rd point: Stems ready. Don't master them. What does that mean? no plugins at all on any of the stems? The stems are for rappers purchasing the beats. The rappers are not producers with software what are they going to do with unmixed stems?
Also why do you need to provide stems?
Then You said keep them at minus -6 db . that makes no sense what do you mean each stem at -6db?

Keep the stems at mix level, this is in case they blow up and wanna send it off to be remixed, idk I usually have 2 folder in my zip file one with dry stems n the other wet with track fix applied.
Is it just me or do you have a loss of quality After uploading your Track to beatstars, too?
YES right?? I was thinking this too. My beat sounds flawless as a .wav file, and even the .mp3 sounds good but when I upload to beatstars i can hear slight clipping on the bass (i use a soft clipper on my drums so this is not surprising but I did not hear anything of the sort when listening to it before I uploaded)... so annoying
Hello I love your video. I’m just signing up with beatstars Have been doing beats for about a year and I love it. When I uploaded one of my songs it came up warning and it mentioned track stems. I wasn’t sure what to do so I didn’t finish the upload . Also you said the master track should be in MP3? Why not Wav as well? I’m still learning so I appreciate any advice and guidance I can get😊
I know how to get my wav file, but how do I get my stems??? I’ve never heard of having to get the stems for anything. But I’m going to start using beatstars as soon as I can figure out how to get my stems and artwork and how to master my tracks. I enjoy ur videos man. I wanna do what your doing ahah
If you use FL studio, render your track/beat/song as a unmastered wav file and select SPLIT MIXER TRACKS on the rendering menu/settings. Now every track that is on the mixer is being rendered individually. You should have a separate folder for your artwork, tagged mp3, untagged wav and trackouts and render them directly in those folders to make things easier and to stay organised. Finally, compress your trackouts into a zip file and you are ready to go.
What's the difference when you paste the youtube url of your beat in "related videos"? What does it do ?

How long should the stems be? The whole track or 4 bars, 8bars???
The stems should be the full track, starting at bar 1. This way whoever buys them can simply drag them into a new project on their DAW at the beginning of the arrangement, and everything is already lined up and ready to go ✌️

Great video! Although I didn’t understand one thing: In the video you said the artist would never hear the mastered MP3 version of the beat, but in that case what are they buying when they buy the $25 MP3 version?
They get the mixed version not mastered. If it was mastered they wouldn't be able to add vocals without making everything clip! They should add them to the mixed version and then master the final thing ✌️
Yeah I also think you should give a mastered beat. Just lower the beat in your daw...then when its mastered you're good. Cause they could mess the whole beat up

@EdTalenti. No one talks about what you should do before even getting to this point. I've looked everywhere and I can't find any information. Every one has the same advice: quality beats + branding. But what about registering your beats before sale? Should we use songtrust at all? It's super frustrating that this information only seems to be available in some obscure law book that most of us will never read. Do you have any guidance on this? Maybe resource or advice?

For the wav file when keeping it -6db, can we just bring the Master knob down -6db, or do we have to level all the sounds till the Master knob reaches -6db?
your mixdown as loud as it can get and then you bring down the master fader to hit max -6db

What volume should one upload track to Beatstars? -6db for headroom for vocals. Would that mean anything less then -6db would be ok too? Like -12db. for example.

And I guess I’m a little confused by how many versions I’ll need of the tracks I’m uploading... say I want to sell only a basic lease and a premium lease but no stems, do I just upload mp3 or is it wav? mp3's are useful for streaming.
however if you're selling licenses, your clients will absolutely prefer a .wav version.

What about an untagged mp3 file, that is made from the untagged wav that is -6 db? Can I put another mp3 available that is mastered and tagged?
The untagged mp3 you're talking about gets created by Beatstars automatically from your untagged wav. The mp3 they require on the upload page is for streaming purpose only!

Download SPAN from the company Voxengo. It's a free plugin, you can put it on your master output and you can check the level on there!

1. That's up to you. The Beatstars tag works but a lot of producers end up going with something more custom. Your decision!
2. in the zip I put the stems, which are individual tracks for each instrument (kick, snare, 808, exc...)

when ppl lease a mp3, its still the unmastered WAV that gets converted mp3 that they get right? not the mastered tagged mp3 i assume..?
the stems, you mention that they are also unmastered, but in what format? mp3??
and last but not lease (bad pun intended), whats the point of the free download? literally just a follow? do they have the same rights as an mp3 lease? or is it just so he has an actual file and somebody ends up writing to it/recording it, then the person can still choose to buy it?

When we export the stems of the track, do we export them as the wet stems? Or the dry stems? Or maybe we do both idk
export they wet how you processed them. basically the stems are just the final mix but broken into pieces.

He’s doing that because he is uploading beats the people are going to rap/sing over it and then mix that and then get the whole thing mastered with vocals. Basically your making it easier for the engineer down the line

Hello there , I just had one question , so when you upload a beat and your picking your files , do you have to have the beat saved as a wav and as a mp3 file ? Or can you just have the wav file and BeatStars will convert that exact wav file to a mp3 file so it’s all set ? I wouldn’t need to save every beat as a wav and also as a mp3 correct ? Very helpful video. I appreciate your help. I have a question maybe you can help me with. If I normally mix a bit higher than -6db, is it generally acceptable to pull mixer faders down at once to get around that level for the unmastered wav and trackouts?
It depends. In theory, as long as the nothing in the mix hits above 0db (which makes it distort), you can do that and it should be fine. Although, I suggest mixing with your tracks low enough so that your master track hits somewhere between -12 and -16. That way you can add your final compression and raise the gain to -6Db. In general, it's always better to add gain later, rather than subtract it.
