Routh looks more and more like Superman the older he gets. I remember how skinny he looked in Superman Returns, more of a swimmer's body than a bodybuilder's body. He actually wanted to bulk up more but wasn't allowed to because the suit had been designed and made to fit him at a certain body mass and they didn't want to spend thousands more on making new suits if Routh got bigger.
They could've made him bulkier in post like with Holland in NWH, but I guess that didn't cross their mind, Regardless though, he was good as Superman in 2006.
Superman Returns is a continuation of the Donner films. Routh was playing Superman the way Christopher Reeve did and even mimicked his mannerisms. Reeve wasn't bulky and Routh emulated Reeve's look

@@Observeman24 nah. Injustice just doesn't get the point of the Superman character. Kingdom Come understood it, and Kingdom Come really understood every dc hero and villain. Superman would never lose his mind like that because he's the personification of hope that shifts the universe of DC literally with his essence. In the darkest hour he'd be the most hopeful.
Injustice is basically an Elseworlds story put into a popular video game. It's basically an experimental exploration of what COULD happen if Superman wasn't as incorruptible as he is. The real Superman would never become that. The closest we've come to seeing an Injustice Superman on the big or small screens was in Batfleck's nightmares of Superman as a murdering tyrant in Batman v Superman. I don't think anyone really has any desire to see that Superman storyline put into film or television in any way because it ruins the cleancut image of the character.

In just two episodes, Brandon Routh gave us the best Superman in the arrowverse. They should have done a series for Brandon’s Superman. A series based off the kingdom come storyline would have been so awesome and different. A much darker take while showing how he manages to cope with the struggle of lose ands still be the hero we love would have been awesome. But I’m just thankful we got to see his Superman again one last time. Edit: since Superman and Lois came out and has now ended I completely change my mind now Tyler has proven himself and his Superman now takes the thrown for the ArrowVerse

There was originally supposed to be a whole series but due to lack of success, it never happened unfortunately. However, it’s entirely possible that we might have it now that Brandon Routh is recognized as such an important figure.
@LoveHandle4890 it wasn't due to lack of success. This is a gross myth that has propagated on the internet. This was because Bryan Singer wanted to make Valkyrie instead of the follow up sequel. The writers strike happened and set back the film so much that Rouths contract expired. The studio was greedy and wanted Batman Begins money and just decided to ditch Routh and re boot even though they made okay money off this film. Rough was kicked to the curb. Over a Tom Cruise movie nobody even remembers.
You know their whole idea here of merging the Kingdom come elements with the Donnerverse Reeve canon actually tracks here. Because in Superman Returns, not only is Gotham mentioned on the television news, but Perry reluctantly remarks about having to cover a “birthday clown massacre” story. Nice bit of retcon groundwork for Joker’s attack on the Planet.
In the end of Crisis where there was a celebority montage of different universes being restored acompayied by Oliver's narration, we see Routh's Superman flying in space with his S emblem back to it's original look, I'm assuming that when it did, The deaths of Clark's friends/loved ones were averted as assumed by the apperences of Oliver's mother, Tommy, and Quentin as they are alive and well in the new Arrowverse.
I swear, Brandon Routh is SEVERELY underrated as Superman! He should’ve played the role more often! In fact, I would’ve loved to see him square off against Affleck’s Batman!
If there really is an HBO max show, I say it could be a prequel setting in the 80s rewriting Superman Returns. Maybe even recast (except for Routh, obviously). And then we could see it set in early 80s to late 80s, knowing if Superman Returns was supposed to be set 5 years after the sequel, maybe it could end with a tragedy and then introduce us to the Superman in Crisis, and post credits of Coda, Post Crisis Superman where everyone is back.
Wow he did improve as an actor. Never liked him in Returns, but Routh really knocked it out of the park. Respect. I am so glad they finally showed a Superman that didn't go off the deep end after losing everything but was more heroic than ever. About time. The Son Becomes the Father speech at the end of the film is proof of that. Also he was excellent as Clark Kent and pulled off the mannerisms perfectly. I love the differences being so clear between Routh and Hoechlin. The former is essentially the innocent golden age 1950s Superman brought forward, while the latter is what Superman would be if he were in the modern day.

Shame that Routh never followed through his Superman role. As much as I loved Cavill's part, Routh nails it in the looks department. He's not too bulky like Cavill, and he has the gentle face that I can imagine how the comic superman would look like. As described in the comics that Clark/Superman's face always drew like a very warm and you feel as if you're safe just being around him. Routh got that charisma about him.

Brandon Routh is Christopher Reeves reborn. It is a great injustice in all of DCVerse that we saw so little of this brilliant casting choice. Despite being a bit older, he pretty much looks the same age as Cavill and Hoechlin. He could have easily continued playing Superman.
One nitpick, they need to update the suit. There's a story floating around they might make an HBO Max series separate from the CW and do the Kingdom Come storyline with Brandon Routh. I read an interview on Den of Geek where Routh talks about the suit tech being better and it being more comfortable than his Superman Returns version but there's something a little off about it. Perhaps because they only planned on using it once they couldn't budget a really perfect suit that fits like a glove which even Tyler has. HBO Max would, so, another reason to hope they do it as opposed to the CW. They can also go darker. It looks similar to the material from the original films but they somehow made even that thin material hug Chris Reeve, You can see the suit bunch up in the medium shots under his arms and round his elbows. Anywhere his body bends. Both suits have those pads to try and make Superman look even bigger but Tyler's are hidden under the thicker material where Routh's have nowhere to hide. He doesn't even need them and I think that's what throws it off. Chris Reeve never had that option and I'd argue he looked all the better for it. Routh has a really long neck too. Maybe put the neckline a smidge higher and make the symbol a touch bigger. Hopefully they update it if they plan to continue.
man these episodes really made me want to see Batman and Superman both become Arrowverse mainstays. I know we have Superman and Lois which gives me hope we can get Batman as well. After seeing how well they’ve done Barry and Oliver’s dynamic I would love to see what they do with Batman ans Superman which is the most iconic Superhero friendship. I like how they casted Warren Christie and since he’s older than Tyler Hoechlin this could he interesting seeing a Batman and Superman relationship with one very experienced Batman. I know in the DCEU Batman is older as well but they never got the chance to develop that more and have abandoned the idea of Superhero crossovers in the movies and the cw would probably do a good job since Superman and Lois is so great. If they do decide to make a Batman show which has always been my dream as there hasn’t been a live action Batman show since the 60s it would be something truly special.

So they wanted him to come back wearing the kingdom come suit but at the same time they were keeping truthful to the superman that Brandon played many years ago.
Ah, the irony of seeing Brandon Routh again as Superman with Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane on the same screen together. Brandon Routh was chosen to play Superman because of his resemblance to a young Christopher Reeve. Unfortunately he was paired with Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane who did not resemble Margot Kidder in any way, shape or form. Elizabeth Tulloch on the other hand, does have that resemblance to a young Margot Kidder. Wish Brandon and Elizabeth had been paired together from the beginning.
I'd love a film where Brandon is Superman from earth 96 in the arrow verse, it be a story set before and after Joker claimed Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane and the rest of the Daily Planet staff, showing how Clark and Superman are effected by this. So, interestingly: Superman I-II Superman Returns Superman III-IV (+Supergirl) The Superman Returns: Prequel comic and recent Superman '78 obviously fit into Earth-96 continuity. Brandon Routh spoke on the possibility of a TV series recently. He stated that he thinks it could happen after The Flash introduces the multiverse further, but isn't likely as it stands. Let's hope it happens! My favourite Superman.

Apparently it's been canonised that Keaton's Batman and Reeve's Superman both share the same universe, marked as Earth-789, but Routh's Superman and Earth in Crisis is designated as Earth-96. So the Earth mark was either changed or the two actually are just different, I dunno. Although I don't think it'd be outside the realm of possibility that the actual Kingdom Come storyline is only loosely adapted in Crisis cuz he's completely secluded from everyone else in the comic, he doesn't work at the Planet anymore unlike here. It could also be possible that he has a different Batman and or that his Batman's dead because the Planet wouldn't have been gassed if that weren't the case. I don't know, it's confusing.
I believe he was still in a contract dispute with Warner Bros at the time. I'm sure he would've participated if they had asked him considering they got Ezra Miller to cameo his version of the Flash.

This is superman (not because of the fight) this man had to continue the same superman reeves made (but even more) he overcame the injustice of all that loved, he broke the will of a book that could destroy almost everything, he made speeches that made you as a fan (or person in show) want to March forward without hesitation of the unknown, and even when he was being killed (tho he returned in the end) he gave words that made you feel like you loss the main character of a long journey, he became what his parents said he would (God among men)

A series based off the kingdom come storyline would have been so awesome and different. A much darker take while showing how he manages to cope with the struggle of lose ands still be the hero we love would have been awesome. But I’m just thankful we got to see his Superman again one last time.
Edit: since Superman and Lois came out and has now ended I completely change my mind now Tyler has proven himself and his Superman now takes the thrown for the ArrowVerse

There was originally supposed to be a whole series but due to lack of success, it never happened unfortunately. However, it’s entirely possible that we might have it now that Brandon Routh is recognized as such an important figure.
@LoveHandle4890 it wasn't due to lack of success. This is a gross myth that has propagated on the internet. This was because Bryan Singer wanted to make Valkyrie instead of the follow up sequel. The writers strike happened and set back the film so much that Rouths contract expired. The studio was greedy and wanted Batman Begins money and just decided to ditch Routh and re boot even though they made okay money off this film. Rough was kicked to the curb. Over a Tom Cruise movie nobody even remembers.

You know their whole idea here of merging the Kingdom come elements with the Donnerverse Reeve canon actually tracks here. Because in Superman Returns, not only is Gotham mentioned on the television news, but Perry reluctantly remarks about having to cover a “birthday clown massacre” story. Nice bit of retcon groundwork for Joker’s attack on the Planet.

In the end of Crisis where there was a celebority montage of different universes being restored acompayied by Oliver's narration, we see Routh's Superman flying in space with his S emblem back to it's original look, I'm assuming that when it did, The deaths of Clark's friends/loved ones were averted as assumed by the apperences of Oliver's mother, Tommy, and Quentin as they are alive and well in the new Arrowverse.

If there really is an HBO max show, I say it could be a prequel setting in the 80s rewriting Superman Returns. Maybe even recast (except for Routh, obviously). And then we could see it set in early 80s to late 80s, knowing if Superman Returns was supposed to be set 5 years after the sequel, maybe it could end with a tragedy and then introduce us to the Superman in Crisis, and post credits of Coda, Post Crisis Superman where everyone is back.

The Son Becomes the Father speech at the end of the film is proof of that. Also he was excellent as Clark Kent and pulled off the mannerisms perfectly. He basically replicated that performance here in this scene.

Shame that Routh never followed through his Superman role. As much as I loved Cavill's part, Routh nails it in the looks department. He's not too bulky like Cavill, and he has the gentle face that I can imagine how the comic superman would look like.
As described in the comics that Clark/Superman's face always drew like a very warm and you feel as if you're safe just being around him. Routh got that charisma about him.

If CW were smart, they would have emphasized how Superman 1, 2, 3, and 4 were on one earth, and Superman 1, Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut, and Superman Returns were on another earth.

Brandon Routh is Christopher Reeves reborn. It is a great injustice in all of DCVerse that we saw so little of this brilliant casting choice.
Despite being a bit older, he pretty much looks the same age as Cavill and Hoechlin. He could have easily continued playing Superman.

One nitpick, they need to update the suit. There's a story floating around they might make an HBO Max series separate from the CW and do the Kingdom Come storyline with Brandon Routh. I read an interview on Den of Geek where Routh talks about the suit tech being better and it being more comfortable than his Superman Returns version but there's something a little off about it. Perhaps because they only planned on using it once they couldn't budget a really perfect suit that fits like a glove which even Tyler has. HBO Max would, so, another reason to hope they do it as opposed to the CW. They can also go darker. It looks similar to the material from the original films but they somehow made even that thin material hug Chris Reeve, You can see the suit bunch up in the medium shots under his arms and round his elbows. Anywhere his body bends. Both suits have those pads to try and make Superman look even bigger but Tyler's are hidden under the thicker material where Routh's have nowhere to hide. He doesn't even need them and I think that's what throws it off. Chris Reeve never had that option and I'd argue he looked all the better for it. Routh has a really long neck too. Maybe put the neckline a smidge higher and make the symbol a touch bigger. Hopefully they update it if they plan to continue.
man these episodes really made me want to see Batman and Superman both become Arrowverse mainstays. I know we have Superman and Lois which gives me hope we can get Batman as well. After seeing how well they’ve done Barry and Oliver’s dynamic I would love to see what they do with Batman ans Superman which is the most iconic Superhero friendship. I like how they casted Warren Christie and since he’s older than Tyler Hoechlin this could he interesting seeing a Batman and Superman relationship with one very experienced Batman. I know in the DCEU Batman is older as well but they never got the chance to develop that more and have abandoned the idea of Superhero crossovers in the movies and the cw would probably do a good job since Superman and Lois is so great. If they do decide to make a Batman show which has always been my dream as there hasn’t been a live action Batman show since the 60s it would be something truly special.

Brandon Routh was chosen to play Superman because of his resemblance to a young Christopher Reeve. Unfortunately he was paired with Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane who did not resemble Margot Kidder in any way, shape or form. You know what is funny? Superman kingdom come is immune to kriptonite, chose Brandon to play him is no coincidence since he was the one Super who lift an entire island made of kriptonite
Apparently it's been canonised that Keaton's Batman and Reeve's Superman both share the same universe, marked as Earth-789, but Routh's Superman and Earth in Crisis is designated as Earth-96. So the Earth mark was either changed or the two actually are just different, I dunno.
Although I don't think it'd be outside the realm of possibility that the actual Kingdom Come storyline is only loosely adapted in Crisis cuz he's completely secluded from everyone else in the comic, he doesn't work at the Planet anymore unlike here. It could also be possible that he has a different Batman and or that his Batman's dead because the Planet wouldn't have been gassed if that weren't the case.

Yeah I realized a long time ago that much like wrestling entertainment Hollywood likes to report actors at incorrect heights and weights in order to sell their images to endorse a show or a film.
