Dude is the Jay Leno of antique iron... and yet Jimmy's so young, no telling what and how much more. Amazing to watch all these years from that NYC basement shop to here. Thanks for showing us your marvelous journey
Just did a make-over of my Dad’s Craftsman 12” Band saw/sander. Wish I had a larger shop, I would keep it, as I like it better than the old 14” Delta I have. But a new Laguna with more throat is now my go to bandsaw for cutting up turning blanks, so it will soon be finding a new home. Hope it gets appreciated as much as you appreciate your restored machines.
WOW, Great collection. I have a 12" Craftsman bandsaw, I attempted to replace the rubber bands, I bought the bands from Sears and they don't fit right so the band saw is sitting in the back of my little my shop. I kept the old bands , so I'm going to put them back on and just give it a good cleaning and hopefully get it working again. I bought it cheap from an old friend of mine, He cut his finger off and the doctor told him it was time for him to give it up. He has since past away, so His wife called me up and gave me his small drill press too.
Being an Old Guy at 72 you have taken me back a long way in time I thank you Could the Bandsaw that you restored/Could that have been powered by a water driven system also back in the day
I”m restoring a mid 70’s Delta Rockwell 14” metal/wood saw. Your video made me feel optimistic that maybe with your help, Americans are once again enjoying and participating in fabrication, repairing and the creation of new ideas.
That bandsaw is Ulta beautiful I wish I had a workshop big enough to have that tool available in my tiny shop. Some day I will move and buy a lot big enough to have a shop big enough for that I'm working on it I'm a retired army Sgt working on my shop new to woodworking about three years now and loving it!
I remember reading an article in a Fine Woodworking magazine, 30 or 40 years ago, about an old stair maker. He said the best woodworking machines ever were built in the '20s. He said they were made to the tightest tolerances.
First off all thank you Jimmy for sharing your experience. For me it's great content and motivation and cool ways how to make or how to restore. Keep going, I always waiting you new videos. Big Like!
Came her for the collection video, stayed for that SICK break beat that almost made dislocate a hip because I was transported to the 80s and thought I could still break dance. You gotta warn your boy up front if you're gonna do that! You can't just surprise break beat someone! My heart is pounding from all the shoulder dancing in my chair! 😉
Me too. Had a friend that loved Spiderman, we made a belt in my dad's shop. Pine blocks with chamfered edges, painted silver and stapled to a webbing belt. Looked great. I was only friends with him in Kindergarten, so we were 5 years old. Used the table saw, maybe the band saw, and the belt sander. How I still have both my eyes and all the fingers is surprising!
LOL.... I was 8. Just came home from a family trip to Maine and cut off a stick of wood in my dad's shop on his 14" Delta. I reached around the blade to get the off-cut and sliced a 1.5" gash on the side of my wrist. That was +50 years ago and I still have the scar from the 14 stitches my doctor sewed up. Good times!
Cool collection. I now understand why I can't find a band-saw to buy. You have them all! I've been looking for a decent band-saw for a while. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
I remember having a Do-All bandsaw in shop class in the early 70's because the idiots in class were constantly breaking blades and it had it's own blade welding system on it. Also you are the epitome of the old saying...."You can never have too many clamps"
Cool, I didn't realize how many band saws I had until I started making a wood cutting one lately. One is the left handed made from scratch. Two is the HF 54-1/2" bladed saw. 3 is the hand held corded saw, Four is the cordless hand held and 5 is the wooden framed Wandel design saw. The wood saw was inspired by Diresta using his saws to shape and carve and my Son in laws need for a wood cutter saw. Enjoyed the tour, cheers and nice to see Lyall's hit and miss fired up!
Just finished watching all your videos this weekend. This video topped them off. I always wait for the next notification of a new video. Watching you from Melbourne Victoria Australia.
I've been kinda wanting a floor-standing bandsaw for when my 10 in Rikon can't quite keep up, but I don't think one of those big Americans will fit in my garage... Congrats on the milestone! I've been watching you since you did the original series for Make. It was fun then and it's still fun now. I remember when you got Spike and was saddened when he left us. Thanks for sharing your skills and philosophy along the way.
That hit and miss reminds me so much of the old concrete mixers my dad and uncle used to use. man this brought back some good memories. Congrats on reaching 1.8mil ,been following you for years and this is such a well deserved milestone for someone who really does inspire so many. 2 mil on its way.
Congrats and thank you Jimmy! 😃👊 I inherited a 14” delta bandsaw from my grandpa, and your enthusiasm for these old machines makes me cherish it even more! That art deco base is so gorgeous too! I think I’m going to need to find one of those myself... good thing you show us that you can’t have too many! 🤣
I have a 1997 reliant 14 inch bandsaw that looks pretty similar to the delta saw that you restored with hand tool rescue. I believe mine is a Chinese knockoff of your delta Milwaukee bandsaw. I love mine! I also have a craftsman 12” 1940’s bandsaw that I am sadly parting ways with now that I have the reliant saw.
These huge handsaws are so awesome! I'm by no means a newbee in the shop but something that size is still pretty intimidating. I think I'll stick to saws sized for us mere mortals, lol. Jimmy you're the man, love your vids!
I love his comment, "it's like having a pet elephant", they're so big! The only drag about those saws is it looks like they were originally designed without protection from the wheels, then that god-awful mesh guard is shoe-horned in, ruins all the pretty lines.
Nice work. I've got a Boyce Crane bandsaw from 1954 and a beautiful American Woodworking Company table saw. Love the old equipment. Also the oiler on the engine should only drip about once every minute or two, this will cut down on the heavy smoking....a little
Very cool 👍😎! I love that you have a different type of blade on each of your bandsaws.... No matter what the material is, you have a blade ready machine standing by, ready to cut!!! 😆😆
Used a similar Do all 12:00 like that in a small machine shop I worked at in 1980 -82 was a great machine. We made a lot of parts out of Lexan, We made parts for seismic cables that were used in the oceans . Teledyne Exploration
Congratulations on 1.8 million subs!! You have the best collections and the best stories to go with them! It's very cool that you have your first bandsaw. I can't wait for the 2 million subs video!
On Aug 9, 2020 DiResta published a TH-cam video titled DiResta Bandsaw Restoration & Collection. At 2:23 minutes in he displays an American branded bandsaw, identical in appearance (but smaller) to the one shown here. It also shows a brief look at both the missing label, and the Shield style decal you're looking for.
I was hoping you'd also have a mini benchtop bandsaw in the collection. I have the bandsaw bug, too, but with more limited space. I bought my first benchtop bandsaw this year, mostly because my other saws are all tuned up and there's not much left I can do to them. The little saw is going to be the subject of some more ambitious upgrades! Parts which are not intended for a bandsaw are enroute from China as we speak.
Not that you *need* another bandsaw, but there's a bandsaw type that you don't own: a Roll-In bandsaw, which is a *vertical* gravity-fed type. For smaller shops that can only fit one bandsaw, it's a really good choice.
Awesome review of your collection . I love the back and worth between restoration and presentation. I hope you will restore quickly your first one 😜👍🏻. Thanks
CONGRATS on reaching 1.8M subs Jimmy! Funny that you did this video all about bandsaws as I just finished reading a bandsaw book! What's that saying "great minds think alike". Keep up the great work & stay safe........... 👍👍😉😉
Dude is the Jay Leno of antique iron... and yet Jimmy's so young, no telling what and how much more.
Amazing to watch all these years from that NYC basement shop to here.
Thanks for showing us your marvelous journey
I love that you got Mr Petes hit-n-miss engines and put one on the saw. Just awesome
I've gotta get one like this and set it up/restore it.. there great and nothing like it is made anymore now a days..beautiful Jimmy!
WOW, Great collection. Congrats on the 1.8 Jimmy. Well deserved. and Nice job on all the bandsaw resto's. Someday,, I'll walk into your shop and see them for myself.
Those American bandsaw are steel sculptures. Totally worth saving. They are beasts and will run a hundred more years. Thank you for all your efforts.
That bandsaw is Ulta beautiful I wish I had a workshop big enough to have that tool available in my tiny shop. congrats on 1.8! great collection.
That is quite the accomplishment Jimmy. You will hit that as well Tony👍
@@SteveSummers You will too, Steve.
Your jeans and makewear look real good dude. Just what we need!
Writing blade specs on the inner side of the blade cover is very simple yet clever!
First off all thank you Jimmy for sharing your experience. For me it's great content and motivation and cool ways how to make or how to restore. Keep going, I always waiting you new videos. Big Like!
Amazing collection of band saws.
I have to say I enjoy using mine,
I find it fun
Very cool to see it restored and moving off a hit and miss Motor @Jimmy Diresta
Came her for the collection video, stayed for that SICK break beat that almost made dislocate a hip because I was transported to the 80s and thought I could still break dance.
You gotta warn your boy up front if you're gonna do that! You can't just surprise break beat someone! My heart is pounding from all the shoulder dancing in my chair! 😉
The story about you, your brother and cousin, brought back so many childhood memories. Our family did similar things.....thanks for sharing 😎

Congratulations Jimmy.
You are one of a kind man.
Same American saw as Jasons from Fireball Tool. Very great. He’s was a mess, with missing parts.
I remember having a Do-All bandsaw in shop class in the early 70's because the idiots in class were constantly breaking blades and it had it's own blade welding system on it. Also you are the epitome of the old saying...."You can never have too many clamps"

So happy you and TubalCain are friends. Love watching both of you. Glad to see the HIM Engines being put to good use.
Who even watches ~40min restoration videos?
Mememememe
I know right?
yeah, WTH. and no nutella? is this even a real restoration?
the ones that makes them apparently
C’mon, we love you too Erik!
Love the breakbeats. Great video!
Bandsaws and tablesaws... the most useful tools in every shop! 🖤🤘🏽
Hi
Kentuckian here. My wife was shouting at the phone “It’s pronounced Lou-uh-vul!” Lol. Awesome collection. Here’s to the next 1.8M.
Great video. Your videos have inspired me get in the shop and make stuff. Thanks
Wow, so many changes in the shop since we scanned it last year! Amazed there is still room!!
love the new style video ..keep moving with the times.
Great job at 1.8 million. I love these videos showing your collections
Love the tool videos ! Great old Band Saws thanks for showing them off! Be Safe!
That Walker-Turner is a wonderful machine!!!
Woah that vise is massive. Looks like an 8 inch Reed!!!! I’d like to see a video on that.
Graduations Jimmy you’re a valued TH-cam channel? Thank you for everything you do!
Fun video, my 5-year goals to have a shop with enough room too put one of your American bandsaws in.
Just finished watching all your videos this weekend. This video topped them off. I always wait for the next notification of a new video.
Watching you from Melbourne Victoria Australia.
Thanks for sharing. Looking for a band saw myself. Glad for the introduction to them.

That's so cool seeing another maker's interpretation of a table top band saw. Adam Savage recently made his own rendition of that.
That's an impressive collection of 'sash clamps', as we call them here in the UK
Love the wooden clutch on that restored bandsaw
Great resto...Jimmy great job
That hit and miss reminds me so much of the old concrete mixers my dad and uncle used to use. man this brought back some good memories. Congrats on reaching 1.8mil ,been following you for years and this is such a well deserved milestone for someone who really does inspire so many. 2 mil on its way.
Reminds me of Norm Abram. He doesn't change Router bits, he just changes Routers.
He didn’t have a single bandsaw in the NYWS though, if memory serves.
Hey, when you use water slide decals get yourself some Solvaset. It lays in water decals on cast surfaces like they are painted on. Great stuff.
I’ve been looking forward to this video all weekend Jimmy! It lived up to the anticipation. Thank you.
By far the best tool collection..............one day.
Great video thanks Jimmy. Also digging the sound over tune...great format
"How many bandsaws are too many bandsaws?"
*Jimmy* : I don't understand the question 😶
Jimmy, alternatively: Yes.
Thanks for all your info and for sharing your creations and tools. You sir are an inspiration for us creative types! You da man, man!
Congratulations on 1.8 million. I love your collection video’s. You can always more toys.
Great video, wonderful collection! Thanks a bunch. Joe

I love mine! I also have a craftsman 12” 1940’s bandsaw that I am sadly parting ways with now that I have the reliant saw.
So many different band saws, it's great they all have a job to do.
Thanks for sharing the collection and congrats on the milestone! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
These huge handsaws are so awesome! I'm by no means a newbee in the shop but something that size is still pretty intimidating. I think I'll stick to saws sized for us mere mortals, lol. Jimmy you're the man, love your vids!

Special saws..special creations..really nice machines
So, I suppose if I was a baker, I would probably have a collection of old mixing machines in my garage too...You go Jimmy! Love your content!
I used to do the same thing with the wheel turning while cutting with my grandpa's band saw! My cousin and I used to have a blast using it
Awesome. Love the collection Jimmy
Congrats on the 1.8 Jimmy. Love the saws😎
Nice work. I've got a Boyce Crane bandsaw from 1954 and a beautiful American Woodworking Company table saw. Love the old equipment. Also the oiler on the engine should only drip about once every minute or two, this will cut down on the heavy smoking....a little
Glad its finally running! Cant wait to do the next one
With the music, I kept expecting Jimmy to start break dancing. But better than county or rock!
Very cool 👍😎! I love that you have a different type of blade on each of your bandsaws.... No matter what the material is, you have a blade ready machine standing by, ready to cut!!! 😆😆
I was worried about the water decal - for no reason! Looks 👍
One of these days we need to get you a Shopsmith bandsaw. Just sayin'. Great collection. Scott
LOVE your collection!!!!
Amazing collection Jimmy, keep saving these treasure !!!
Used a similar Do all 12:00 like that in a small machine shop I worked at in 1980 -82 was a great machine. We made a lot of parts out of Lexan, We made parts for seismic cables that were used in the oceans . Teledyne Exploration
You earned it Jimmy. This was an awesome video. Love the collection/restoration combo. Very fun (as always)!
Very excited about the jacket and pants! Yesss!!!

Congratulations on 1.8 million subs!! You have the best collections and the best stories to go with them! It's very cool that you have your first bandsaw. I can't wait for the 2 million subs video!

At 2:23 minutes in he displays an American branded bandsaw, identical in appearance (but smaller) to the one shown here. Its amazing how we went from machinery that was built to last a lifetime, to crap that has to be reworked before one uses it.
Yeah much of the cheaper stuff is driven so far to the bottom that some of the assembly and parts are outsourced to the customer
You my friend are a very LUCKY GUY !!!
Fire, Smoke and Thunder! Great restoration, I love the collection.
Like the sound of the green motor
I just seen my brother for the first time in a few years and he showed up wearing a Diresta shirt and I was like "holy crap you like Diresta too!" LOL
Jimmy: Starts the "hit and miss" motor
Mr Pete: ...seller's remorse levels up to 11
I was hoping you'd also have a mini benchtop bandsaw in the collection. I have the bandsaw bug, too, but with more limited space. The little saw is going to be the subject of some more ambitious upgrades! Parts which are not intended for a bandsaw are enroute from China as we speak.
The music at 2:34 made me want to challenge someone to a breakdance battle. Good looking machines by the way!
Me: changes bandsaw blade
Jimmy: changes bandsaw

🐼 Big Bear Hugs from a 67 yr old grandma in Kirby, Texas, USA 🐼..
Awesome video. Congrats Jimmy!!!👍👍👍
Awesome! Greetings from Italy!
I hope my grandkids can visit the Diresta Museum of American Machinery one day
Who's music was this btw? Klepacki?

Keep up the great work! I appreciate the time you have put in to making these videos.
Congratulations on 1.8M subs!!!!

Soundtrack has me pumped ! 🧨
Awesome review of your collection . I love the back and worth between restoration and presentation. I hope you will restore quickly your first one 😜👍🏻. Thanks
