    I have no desire to live like this but enjoy the various stories. But the thing I enjoy most is watching Bob interview the folks. He’s such a great interviewer, interested, empathetic, knowledgeable. He doesn’t make himself the center of attention but allows his interviewees to shine. Really well done.

    I have a Transit Connect I use for travel camping. My set up is simply a raised platform full size bed in the back and storage underneath.
    For cooking, I open the rear doors to the 90 degree position, and lay a 12" wide plank between the doors. (There are openings in the interior of the doors that support the plank nicely.) Instant counter top! Plenty of room for a two burner camp stove plus space for food prep.
    I love what Toby did to increase the storage above the passengers heads. Toby, how did you secure the plywood?
    Toby has a great channel. Great info, realistic perspective, no pretension, and a sense of humor. If you haven't yet, you should check Toby's channel out!

    I bought a new Ford Transit Van 5 months ago and I love it. I'm not living out if it but it handles beautifully and I threw a bed in the back just in case I have a migraine and can't drive. He has some great idea's.

    Nice to see you on Bob’s channel, Toby. When folks go over to your channel, they will see how you live OUT of your van, not IN it. You have passed on good hints to me as I’ve set up my own van. Safe travels.

    I have been living in my 2013 Transit Connect since last summer. I started with a lengthwise pull out twin bed and I just tore it all out this week and decided to build a bed crosswise and its 62" so I lay cady corner a bit. I love it so much more. I have solar on top and its awesom. I get 32-34 on hwy and 28 in town.

    I'm working on the inside of my 1993 Chevy Sport van. I was having a heck of a time trying to figure out the ceiling covering since it is all metal. I put up ridged insulation with 3M 77 spray between the ribs, but it kept falling down. I pulled them down(easily) and used LIquid nails Heavy duty caulk and it is working better.
    HOWEVER, I was not wanting wood on the ceiling either. I have Fabric I've had forever and not used so I was trying to figure out how to best mount it.
    MAGNETS, MAGNETS, MAGNETS- HEAVY DUTY MAGNETS!!!!! BRILLIANT. THANK YOU! SO GLAD I WATCHED THIS VIDEO. Plus I like the idea of being able to wash the fabric.

    • @taradead

      static campervan 3M sprayed some cork to his ceiling and says it works pretty good. He says it's lightweight, insulative and keeps condensation to a minimum...but the material's lifespan may be in question.

    Our plans to buy a Ford Transit Connect is coming closer. Probably will happen beginning next year. There is a small workshop that builds out Connect vans for use as a camper van. They only use Connect vans till 2014. They are evaluating using the later year models. We’re looking at a 2017 model at the moment. So fingers crossed they will do the build out of a later model.

      mad555max Being a nomad is like being a pilgrim or pioneer. It has to be in your DNA. I live in an Astro and I love my LIFESTYLE. Each to their own.

    • @mad555max
      @mad555max 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Warren Eisenburg so because I couldn't live in such a small van I'm not a nomad and couldn't be one? Interesting point of view.

    • @Milesco
      @Milesco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @ Warren: If I'm not mistaken, an Astro, although not a full-size van, is quite a bit bigger than a Transit Connect, no?

    • @mad555max
      @mad555max 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Captain Quirk a quick Google shows it is bigger. Can't speak for height though. Biggest problem for me in this transit connect would be the cramped height, I'm a tall guy with a bad back. I can't be hunched over like that, potential bed length issues too.

    • @tobyintransit2533
      @tobyintransit2533 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Haha! Bob asked me to sit on the bed for the interview, but I never sit on the bed! I have camp chairs and live my life outside. One of the things I love about my setup is the fact that it is so uncomfortable to hang out in. It forces me to spend my day outside, which is great for my soul. But it’s plenty comfortable for sleeping!

  • @AsTheWheelsTurn
    @AsTheWheelsTurn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    nice! shows you can make it work even in a small vehicle/ although to me it is very important to be able to at LEAST sit up fully. I am spoiled by having a high top on my van, very nice to be able to stand up. I only use mine for camping but even still I like the extra headroom and air.

    • @nanceenana3010
      @nanceenana3010 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      AsTheWheelsTurn I want a high top. I’m short so it would be perfect for me! I hear they stopped making them after 2010, so I have my eye out for that year.

  • @101perspective
    @101perspective 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the same air vent. It's nice but a tad loud. Btw, the rain guards on the windows is nice to have if you plan to live out of it. Allows you to keep the windows cracked without having to worry about it raining on your front seats.

Hoping someone can answer a question for me..I will be getting a Class C in the next few weeks, and I am trying to find out if I can boondock/dispersed camp/dry camp on public land and other very low cost and/or free sites, in a 26 to 29 foot rig? I need the couch, not just a dinette, and I cannot seem to find anything shorter with a couch. Thanks so much for any help or answers anyone is willing to share. Frugal Fit Chic, I wish but you have to search all places mostly online. The best source there is Craigslist. There are RV sellers around the country that sell their trades ins. Also find paper magazines usually distributed free at diners, restaurants, stores like Wawa, 7-11, Quikcheck type of stores you can pick up too. They are next to real estate books for selling homes and renting apartments. I’ve read where some people have been very successful quickly but some look for years. Good luck.

      you mean the NV200? The transit gets up to 29 mpg on the highway, but only 22 in the city. The NV200 gets 26 mpg hiway, but 24 in the city. They're close enough that other factors are more important (price of van, warranty, dependability, power, wheel clearance, etc).

    I can't be sympathetic, understanding, or non-judgmental. He needs a stretch in the military. Dreading having to work for a living? Who doesn't? Want to retire in your 20s? Just accept that you're going to be lowered expectations. Expect others to pay your SS and support you? I retired @ 65 - after a lifetime of working 2 jobs (started working - paying SS at 11 yr old.
