      Nikki the low boy or stereo cabinet is a great idea. I saw a video that a man used an vintage wood desk with the legs cut off. Now I have new things to be on the hunt for.

    Absolutely love this van. Get so tired of seeing cheap plastic totes, duct tape, and Bungie cords. This is so homey and beautiful. Looks so pleasant and pretty, and makes you want to take a trip, Just like the old oak tables for the bed platform, you couldn't buy a sheet of plywood for what she paid for them. Craigslist free stuff always has something like that. Doesn't have to cost a lot to look good.Love that she took the time to care.

    • @ButterflyTracks

      I agree. I love to thrift anyway, so why not take advantage of the saving money and making things easy. She can change things around if she feels so inclined as well. I just love it! We do have to keep in mind though that the wood is very heavy and those plastic totes can make a world of difference in gas mileage. I'm building out my own van as we speak with the heavy work being done by my carpenter husband. I'll be doing most of the traveling and I've got enough baskets and cloth totes to make it functional and homey. He's doing a great job and I'll just be adding the finishing touches. Hopefullly , we won't butt heads.

    Quick and cheap insulation: blankets, sheets, quilts and tapestries! It's how we kept those drafty stone castles warm in England for hundreds of years and you can find them cheap just about anywhere. Just make sure to leave an air gap behind it and the difference is shocking ☺️ And bonus: they're the easiest walls to clean ever because you can just throw them in the laundry 😆

    • @ButterflyTracks
      @ButterflyTracks  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you. Great suggestion and Elizabeth has metal walls to hang them with magnets. 👍

    • @sueg2658
      @sueg2658 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Love it! That is the reason in olden times (wealthy) people used 4 poster beds with heavy curtains to keep warm.

    • @k.pacificnw02134
      @k.pacificnw02134 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've thought the same thing about insulation; Just use plenty of cotton tapestries and rugs and blankets. It will absorb condensation but then easily give up the moisture during the day because it's 100% cotton. And just do a number of layers, and don't do the thing that some people do where they build the inside of the van just like you would a house; first they frame it all in and then and wood and then some sort of finish... By that time you have taken up many inches of precious living space with a ton of wood and you still are going to need a heater to stay warm in there. In the '70s they put shag carpet on the walls and ceilings of their vans. Since most carpet is synthetic I'm not sure how that would work with condensation; It probably would be too good of a substrate for growing mold.

    • @k.pacificnw02134
      @k.pacificnw02134 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ButterflyTracksI absolutely loved the magnets idea. And just like you said.... And it was something I hadn't thought of.... You can hang up all kinds of blankets and tapestries and fabrics with modern strong magnets. It would be so cozy. And so changeable.

    • @cynthiacrawford6147
      @cynthiacrawford6147 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tapestries were also used in Scotland. Linens were often in the dowries and were handmade treasures.

    I agree with Elizabeth about the desire to get out to have a little bit of adventure on her own and be out in nature and to prove to herself she can do it on her own. Like Elizabeth, I married young, at 18 and had a baby right away, so really never had a chance to have any adventures on my own as an adult. My husband, of now 50 years, and I started RVing in a 30 foot trailer in January 2019 and love it! I have become somewhat obsessed with women RVing on their own and with van life and watch women van life videos. I am living vicariously through women who travel and admire them for their courage and spontaneity and creativity. Keep up the great videos and enjoying freedom and adventure.

    Jan I must thank you & all the ladies for great ideas. I'm living in a home shared by 3 of us women & one woman's grown son. So learning about ways to save space and gadgets to use in my room is great ! We share a big kitchen so that's great too. I'm thinking about buying a Jackery or similar to use in my room to heat water for tea ,keep phone charged or maybe even power a small fridge to not add electric costs to the house. Still plan to find my van & travel some too . Blessings 🎉 💕 🤗

    I love your van. Its cute and homey.. speaking of being a big lady, I was watching Miriam Margolyes in a van in Australia. She is a big lady and she's 82, I think. Nothing holds her back. If you can figure out how to watch Almost Australian, I guarantee you will love it. I watched the first episode on my phone.

    I like your set up very much. I am a widow 75yo. I love to travel too. I travel by car. I load up and away I go. I don’t do much outdoor cooking. Most of my meals done a little single burner cooktop. Due to my age and health I try to stay near civilization I am cautious of going too remote. Last year I went from Calgary to Banff and all thru the mountains. One of my best trips to date.

    Thank you for sharing. I’ve camped forever. I’ve just bought my first van to go on my own. My anxiety is from not trusting the vehicle.
    I’m so afraid of being broken down.
    I trust myself but worry about the vehicle.

      Hi Kathy. 👋 Think about this - you drive now, right? You could break down on the road near the town you live in. Either way, you'll need roadside service. 😊👍

      Maybe you could start by camping with friends in a campground close to home!

    I started by just walking 10 mins a day then went up by 5 min increments. I am now doing a mile in the morning and a mile in the evening. I lost 27 pounds since January ( and yes dieting as well 😂). I am preparing myself for those hikes. Love your attitude my friend... keep it up.

    I love this video. I too like to get out. When I’m at home I sit and read or watch tv way too much. When you are camping you are up and moving to accomplish any task. The outside environment motivates you to walk more whether it just to see the sights or meet and talk to others. Its just a more active lifestyle when you are out in nature.
