The reality of being out like this completely cut off from your usual daily routines and facing new unforeseen challenges is sometimes a 50/50 in terms of what your experience will be. It's a great way of living if you ease into the lifestyle, even if it's only for a weekend at a time, just getting out there and in touch with the more simplistic and perhaps primal ways of life. I used to go out camping with 2 friends far out in the woods for a weekend every month or so, and just sitting out there in good company with a fire burning for hours, enjoying some home cooked food, building up your small camp over the days etc.. it's such a nice way to relax and get some perspective on life :)
I was homeless in my late 20s to early 30s and I survived many cold winters with just my tent. Some homeless people (or people in general) don't even have a tent or any kind of shelter during winter. This was a cool video.

I’ve always liked the thought of living in something small, in a cozy little thing in the middle of a blizzard in freezing temps but being warm inside my cozy little hut
You know I used to live for the whole winter for about 20 years and I never used heat at night I found it if you have four good down quilts you don't have to waste all your energy and battery power to heat a vehicle I mean you should put some water under the blanket and the dog food also cuz that'll freeze but when it goes to 40 below you'd be surprised how easy it is to survive a night with the right amount of down quilts
Except people don't think about the technical difficulties that a van brings lmao like where to shit and how not to bogged when you're chilling in snow
As an old Canadian gold exploration geologist I have a lot of experience in winter conditions. Vehicle wise I recommend upgrading to winter windshield wipers in these conditions as their rubber shrouded nature prevents ice build up on your wipers, making for a clearer windshield. If you haven't done so I recommend putting chains on all 4 wheels. Your choice of Sorel Caribou boots is excellent though I would blouse my pant bottoms into my socks or wear good gaiters. It keeps your pant legs drier in the snow. I would use a small 24" handled ax rather than a knife and baton. You are in a truck and have no need to save the weight and an ax can do a lot more than a knife and do it faster, more safely and with less effort. Imagine if you were in real bush and not a parking lot. You would probably need to buck up a fallen tree for fire wood or for poles. I have had to overnight in the bush in winter unexpectedly with only my field pack and ax. It is not a problem as you can make a lean to with your ax and then get a good fire going, make a bed with the spruce boughs and branches and then use your space blanket from your emergency kit. Shovel wise, I'd go with a larger, square aluminum snow shovel. I'd keep a steel spade too but for digging harder material if needed. Finally, I recommend clearing off all of the snow from your vehicle before you drive off. Leaving heavy snow on your roof when you drive is lazy and it can blow off suddenly at road speeds, blocking your visibility or worse, blowing onto another vehicle and blocking theirs.
I was noticing that myself! This whole episode has great production values. I live in this state and I'm amazed how beautiful he's made everything look.

Oh man, I love this video. I watched this for the first time back when it came out. I had first moved to WA and had no car. I dreamed of doing the same while watching this video. Time went on and months down the road we got nailed with Covid. I got a truck right before the prices for used cars went through the roof. It’s an old ford ranger and has a fiberglass shell over the bed. The last 4-5 years have been so much, and it’s refreshing to come back and watch this. Now I’ve camped all along highway 2 from the E to leavenworth. I’ve even seen you on the road once! Ah well, glad to have this experience, and glad you got yours in too! All love brother, hope you been gettin out and continuing the lifestyle every once and a while
DUDE! The vibes in this are on point. Felt like I was camping with an old friend. I’ve come back and watched this several times over the last weeks, stoked TH-cam recommended it to me! I just made my own take on a snow storm adventure in my Van, thanks for the inspiration to get after it. Maybe one day I’ll run into you state side. Preferably on the top of the mountain as a snow storm moves in.
Hey dude! Cool to hear from ya mate! I’ve actually been following your channel for a while now. I saw it too. I thought wow there's a wolf wandering around on it's own, and he doesn't even know. Then I saw the guy behind him. Then I thought wow, that guy has a pet wolf.
It’s 3am here and I’m struggling with a reason to live. This guy is out in the middle of nowhere and is super happy with a pizza. Wtf.....I’m clearly doing everything fucking wrong.
Man, i hear ya and can relate sometimes. I struggle with a reason to live also. It helps though to try and do what this guy is doing. Try to take pleasure in the simple things of life, while you try to create your own reason to exist. Anyway hope that helps for whatever it’s worth. It is a daily struggle.
You are not alone. Watching these videos really bring a sense of “what’s wrong in my life shouldn’t matter, there’s a guy out here making pizza in a winter storm!” You are not doing anything wrong, you just need to experience a change to bring you a sense of relief. Going camping is a great way. Setting up a tent, collecting firewood, drinking by the fire listening to music really resets bad things that recently happened. It’s an epiphany of realizing there’s always tomorrow and I can make something of today 🙂
One can never know what he is trying to escape from back home.. Of course he is enjoying this.. But no one can guess what all battles he must be fighting for a living..
I believe this guy is under huge stress. Happy to be living in a van. No I dont think so. No eating pizza while living in a van is not the coolest thing ever. Must suck trying to get laid, hey baby, want to fornicate in my van. It's sad and pathetic.
“Living in a van, down by the river!” I’ll tell you what...didn’t plan to watch the entire video, but once I started watching, I couldn’t stop! Awesome adventure! Makes me want to get a van and do some serious traveling and camping and just see some of the world i have missed! And the food? Wow! Just being outdoors and taking it in....thanks man! Really enjoyed your adventure. And thanks for sharing!
He said at the beginning it was the parking lot of a tourist park. And the other people probably know him. I doubt he is stupid enough to randomly pull up on a closed park and randomly cook sausage in the wilderness in s snowstorm all alone. There are serious apex predators in the cascades. His cooking and fire are sure to attract.
Sleeping in a van with the snow falling. My go to sound in my soothing sounds app is rain falling when you’re in a tent. So I can imagine what it was like to feel warm and comfortable in your van. Many thanks for posting.
There's a lot of $$$ in these vids. You can tell from the camera work and a lot of that equipment he has is brand new. The clothes he took out of the bins at the 4:20 mark were all brand new, some even had tags still on them.
Skillet Pizza!!! at one point, the oven in my apartment stopped working and my friends and I (drunk) wanted pizza. so after thoroughly greasing my cast iron 10", I plopped a frozen DiGiorno down and covered, cooking SLOWLY on stovetop until the cheese was nice n melted. I tell you it was delicious!!! the crust was buttery and chewy/crispy like a pan pizza should, and all ended well. Just wanted to share my skillet pizza story!!! Loved the vid!
Nice!!! Here’s a trick I learned in the Himalayas for mountain pizza...it saves you stove time (fuel) by not having to pre-cook the ingredients. All you have to do is build it upside down! So start with the meat, then quickly add the veggies after the fat renders in the pan, then add some cheese if you’d like, then add the crust on top. Let it cook for a few minutes, then just flip that sucker over to brown the bottom. Easy as pie...or in this case, pizza. Also, you’re in the snow! No need to cut all hunched over on the ground. Dig a small pit and use the snow you’ve dug out to build a bench on the edge of the pit. 1 foot deep pit + 1 foot bench = 2 feet of room to put you’re legs in to. Then you can comfortably lean over to the other side of the pit and use that ledge to cut, chop, do whatever. Nice video man. Happy camping.

Love how the Snow is a natural noise canceler; how it muffles out the sound, yet allows natural sounds to pass.
Damn
respect to you, for the effort taken in placing the camera for a cool shot, then walking back to pick it up.
I’ve always liked the thought of living in something small, in a cozy little thing in the middle of a blizzard in freezing temps but being warm inside my cozy little hut
Samee
You know I used to live for the whole winter for about 20 years and I never used heat at night I found it if you have four good down quilts you don't have to waste all your energy and battery power to heat a vehicle I mean you should put some water under the blanket and the dog food also cuz that'll freeze but when it goes to 40 below you'd be surprised how easy it is to survive a night with the right amount of down quilts
Why would you be curious about making enough coals to cook on it
Except people don't think about the technical difficulties that a van brings lmao like where to shit and how not to bogged when you're chilling in snow
@@yesdude3914 Its not science

Thank you for doing this video - it's so nice to see that you can be successful on TH-cam with a slower, easy going filming style that doesn't constantly change camera angles every 2 seconds. Your style is relaxing, invigorating and inspiring.

I used to bitch about the shoes I wore: until I met a man with no feet.

I thought this was some random hardcore place in the middle of nowhere. The next humans hours away and then i saw that random guy walking his dog 😂
From beginning when he show his porch view there is a black car parking not faraway from him
Survival in the parking lot..
You can see lights from a town or city in the background near the beginning, too.

Happy camping.
great idea for the pizza upside down.. gonna try that out on my next trip
