    Thanks for the tips! Wondering how one can prevent the first one? The one with the cashier stating you gave them counterfeit money? I'd trust a cashier, so it's not just people on the streets scamming, it's employees at businesses too? eeeks

    Cape Town is not the safest place in the world. The crime rate is really high. I experienced a home invasion and an attempted hijacking

    Lived in this city for 5 years… never experienced any of these aside from 40 million stint. Strange

    Same kind of things happen in Panama. I won't bother with anybody on the street or public place I don't know. The tragic bullshit story is quite common. I'm heading to Cape Town for a visit. Luckily, I got a local family friend to get me from the airport. As soon as I land and get through customs, there's no lingering around. It's off to my lodging ASAP.
