The 2220.80 was my fist luxury watch when I bought it in 2008. If I wanted to own just one watch it would be this one. Wherever I went this watch went with me. It was on my wrist when I made the decision to work in China for a few years. It was with me during work time and when I explored the vibrant night life of Shanghai and Hong Kong. It was on my wrist when I climbed mountains and during scuba diving in the Red Sea. And yes, it even was with me when I wore a tuxedo. It's fair to say that this SMP suits (almost) every possible attire and occasions.
Earlier this year it stopped working so it needed some service after 15 years. I haven't been without it for such a long time before and it was quite hard. Yesterday I finally got the call from the Omega Boutique and of course I picked her up as quickly as possible. I couldn't be happier having it back.

The Omega Seamaster 300M Co-Axial ref. 2220.80.00 is more than a transition, is the introduction to the Co-Axial movement, one of Omega's finest.
This is the watch Vesper compliments in Casino Royale (2006):
    "Rolex?", she asked.
    "Omega", replied Bond.
    "Beautiful", said Vesper.

A stunning watch with that Bond connection. My first luxury watch back in 2000 was the earlier 2531.80 version and then as part of a growing collection I enjoyed it for over 10 years before selling it due to buying a house. It had also been usurped by my 2002 Rolex Sub Date 16610 which I still cherish today. However, I regret it to this day, as mint-conditioned Omega 2531.80s appear to be going for £2000- £3000 these days. A recently purchased Tudor Black Bay 58 navy blue has nonetheless satisfied a lingering nostalgia for the Omega and for a cracking quality blue dial diver, with its superb modern in-house COSC movement, 70 hrs reserve and staggering lume, not to mention the sheer wearability.

Great choice in watches. I can understand missing the 2531. I myself have owned Seamasters and now have the bb58 navy like you, but I plan to sell it and continue to wait for a submariner.

Stunning watch. I own the 2022 white dial and it's nice to see what this watch became. The date window to 6 o'clock position, bigger helium escape valve, more pronounced wave pattern and bigger more proportional hour hand.

I’m glad Omega is sticking with a formula outside of the Speedy. Congrats on owning the white dial version. That’s definitely the fan favorite.

These seamasters are built like a tank. I had the chrono version, for 7 years before trading it for a ceramic submariner no date. When i got the sub my first impression was: Why the F does this cost twice the price, it's not built better, it doesn't feel in any way more luxurious. But my SMP chrono was too chunky, hated the green lume, so had to go. Going forward in time before the spectre 300 master co-axial got discontinued, the non spectre version, my AD offered it 20 percent off. I bought it straight away, wasn't sure about it, but once it went on the black-grey nato, the watch has fully came alive, and i've not been happier. Blue lume finally, vintage design, gmt hour function, see through caseback, no helium valve. It is the perfect bond watch for me. But blue being my favourite color, i will possibly add this model of yours to the collection. When i want sg cheap but bond like, i wear the casio ae1200, the only cheap watch that delivers fun, and usability way way way above its price. Can only recommend :)

I forget what number mine is. I bought it brand new in 1998, it’s thinner than yours, Seamaster on the bottom, automatic, ETA movement, not a ceramic bezel, but this watch gets more wrist time than all. I own a couple of Rolexes, Breitling, but this is my favorite watch, very comfortable, keeps great time, and I’ll Never sell it, it’s just my go to watch, and I love it, nothing like this Omega Seamaster, just an Awesome watch. Got mine 9 years ago and I still wear it today.. Looks really good! Definitely prefer this over the Brosnan ones because of the applied logo and indices. But the Brosnan ones will forever be legendary.
And yes, it had a starring role in Casino Royale alongside the Planet Ocean Bond wore in the first half of the movie.
Mostly remembered for that scene on the train with Vesper when Bond first wore the 2220.80.

The best bond seamaster is the one he should have worn - the 2535.80 GMT! All the extra features you describe about the 2220.80 (although with white seamaster writing, painted omega logo to fit under the gmt hand, and the shorter minute hand of the 2531.80) but with the additional GMT functionality and a display case back! It’s the best bond seamaster of them all!

I have the ceramic 2500d version without the wave but honestly i wish it had the wave dial. This is truely the best of both worlds. The only "negative" is the 2500c that some people say its less reliable and the main reason why i bought the ceramic.

    • @horologyproject
      @horologyproject  ปีที่แล้ว

I've actually had reliability issues with the 2500c, so those concerns are true. There is a very small batch of Wave dial Co-axial 2500d movement, but they are hard to come by. The review that I did on the Black version was a D movement.

I must say that my favourite reference is the 2254.50 and that is due to the combination og the case height, the three link bracelet and the sword hands, I think.

I do love this watch. 41 or 36mm because it has applied indices, Coaxial, Red Seamaster, Bracelet. Did you size it on your own? I like my watches loose, but this watch I may have to wear it tighter.
