Yes, suicide is a very horrible act, it’s a violation against nature, but can you imagine the pain someone must be in to be able to kill themselves? To, not only drum to this anthemic song, but with the voice of your lost friend….I can’t fathom how he could do it without getting emotional. And now, my heart breaks for Dave and the Foo Fighters even more, with the loss of Taylor Hawkins. Dave has been through so much. I can’t decide whether tragedy has helped him BECOME the nicest guy in rock and roll, or if he has become the nicest guy DESPITE the tragedy he’s been through.
    Either way, we are lucky to have Dave Grohl. His talent, knowledge, kindness, and humility is something we should all admire and aspire to. We are lucky to have the CLASS ACT that is Dave Grohl. ❤

    • @mandobekah
      @mandobekah 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      And just to reiterate….if I was in Dave’s shoes, I can’t imagine drumming to this song with Kurt’s vocals. I think, if someone else covered the lyrics, it would be easier to have some cognitive dissonance. But to start drumming (even if he was prepared for it) and hear Kurt’s voice……I don’t know how he kept it together. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed. The loss of someone so influential would certainly cause a flood of emotions that would hit me at my core. I don’t know how Dave did it…other than being a real-life musical superhero.

    I saw Nirvana at Swarthmore College in 1990 -- the crowd consisted of about 40 people, tops. Had no idea who they were but halfway through, I was hooked. They absolutely blew the top off that place. Didn't matter if they were playing to 10 or 10,000. They brought it each and every time.

    • @RMR1
      @RMR1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@ToolShopGuy It was at the Olde Club, one of the darkest, dingiest, sparsest --- and coolest -- venues I'd ever been to. Most people there seemed more interested in talking and hooking up than listening to the band, but I'd heard of Nirvana from a friend in Tacoma -- he described them as "punk-rock-pop" and said they had a loyal following out west.
      So I went mainly to check out the music (though I wasn't averse to hooking up too, haha!) The band didn't care that so few people were paying attention to them -- they were used to that -- and they absolutely delivered. High energy, big sound, Kurt doing his stage dives (usually into a cluster of 5 or 6 people) -- the whole nine yards.
      Kurt's vocals were drowned out on a few of the songs (there was something wrong with the mic or amp), but most of the time they were solid. And the music was phenomenal -- the band was super tight, the sound was big and bold with just the right mix of punk and rock -- they were easily better than 90% of the small-time bands I saw at that time.
      I distinctly remember Kurt saying at one point, "This is a new song that's going to be on our next album on Sub Pop," before launching into "In Bloom." I remember thinking it had a great hook, with enough pop sensibilities that it might even get played on mainstream rock radio. I told myself I'd have to try and pick up that album when it comes out. I wasn't sure how many they'd actually make, though, so I wondered if I'd even be able to find it. Turns out that wasn't a problem LOL!

      One of the absolutely best drum parts of all time. As great as the song is, if we listed the greatest drum parts it would be higher than it would be as a greatest song.
      Just the raw intensity is just so fantastic. You can play the drums and a lot of people will know which song it is.
      Kurt is one of the true losses of Rock. Up there with Randy Rhodes.
      If Dave’s up for it, I’d love a tribute concert for Nirvana. I don’t think we got one, and I think there are a lot of people they inspired.
