Being a great drummer is such strange concept. Being a great drummer is not really about the awe inspiring thunder of the drum solo. The drummer is in charge of the beat. The tempo the groove. A great drummer knows when to hold it down when the other musicians are reaching for something different. A great drummer understands you don't need a fill every 2 bars. A great drummer brings you back the the "1" just when you think the song is about to fall apart. When you play with a great drummer sometimes you forget he's even there because he's so consistent and blends into the song perfectly. So yeah Dave Grohl is in fact a great drummer.

He exudes passion, precision and excellence. Just something about the way the way he plays lets you know it’s him. That’s the sign of an incredible drummer.
Dave Grohl Oh Dave, you are good, no question. But what about your buddy Taylor Hawkins? I have a theory about why he's so skinny----he burns 5000+ calories laying down drum tracks for FF songs. He's good too, no question.
In his recent 60Minutes interview, the guy said "some people would argue that you're the best drummer of your generation" and Dave said "well... I disagree with that"
I got to see them crooked vultures perform in amsterdam on completely coincidence. my cousin and i were there visiting and we were walking down the street past this venue and the line was around the fuckin corner. both of us being music heads, we walked up to the ticket counter and were like who is playing? them crooked vultures? who are they? ..... JPJ AND DAVE GROHL WTF GIVE US TWO TICKETS! dave is an incredible drummer, and amazing musician, and an even better human. he's an incredibly kind, generous person, and all of the small little things on the interwebs don't lie. there is a reason why he is so liked and so highly regarded. incredibly talented, and beyond humble given how talented he is.
Wow! I am really glad this grandma came across this page. Buddy Rich, Gene Kurpa or Bonhamn, I would rate them all as equals, but none surpass. Musical talent isn't and never will be gone.
He doesn't practice, he plays. So he is not a paradiddle drum solo kind of guy, but he plays very tight and has a unique feel. That's why he's one of the best in my opinion. And his work on the TCV album is my favorite.
Ive heard him with ZZ-Top Oryanthi, blond, but good hrp pßlaying, SHARP DRESSED MAN and there, I fold the rolling Sound of Dave Grohl, thanks man, now im 67years old and beginns to drumm . Really by myself!!
He's extremely talented and so humble and tankfull for is career, I really love the artist but also the man behind the artist! Keep going David!! ❣ (just to mention that i'm not fluent in english, I hope my comment is well written...😉 and well received!)
To me, Dave grohl is one of the best. No one seems to understand how well he composes drums to songs. Of course he won’t sound great when he’s just soloing since there are way better things that he can do in the context of a song.
Man... In 17 years you never studied real drummers??? TH-cam can help you a lot with that!!! Grohl isn't worth half the shit Neil Peart took this morning!!!
Then go watch a Neil fuckin Peart video instead of preachin your shit to fans of another famous drummer, ass. I'm stating my personal choice. Not a fucking top 10 histories best drummers. If you can't handle the idea that some people idolize Dave Grohl individually, you need to seek assistance from a professional in the head shrink department. Wanker.
Don Beleef If you're a drummer then you would know Dave Grohl isn't the world's best drummer. There is a difference between saying I think he is the best, meaning you just happen to like what Dave does, than to say he IS the best, meaning he is the best in the world. The latter is not so much about liking someone's drumming style, showmanship, etc it is about judgement based on criteria, such as technique. For example, I prefer Gene Krupa over Buddy Rich because Krupa floats my boat with his rhythms and use of toms. However, I have no bother with admitting Rich is superior. You can be a fan, love a drummers work and at the same time not contradict yourself by saying that other drummers have superior technique and skill. Put another way, there is the subjective experience of liking something and the objective judgement using criteria. I love Marc Bolan's vocals over Freddy Mercury's, but Bolan certainly didn't have the vocal range of Freddy Mercury. So what if Mercury is better technically than Bolan as a singer, I still like Bolan! What's the big deal?
That last clip is sick but Black Sabbath performing "War Pigs" live at the Olympia Theater in Paris, France on December 20, 1970 is the greatest single drumming performance I have ever heard.
I am a guitarist and wish i was a drummer. I can feel Dave's playing every time i listen to him play My Hero or even "A song for the dead" by QOS. What's crazy is that i like Taylor just as much when it comes to drumming but i love Dave as a whole (and as a musician) wayyy more
+BarbzAM I know that, but he makes it sound like Dave was not in the band. When I said: ''This drummer is so much better than the drummer of Nirvana!'' I was meaning Dave Grohl himself. It's a joke. I can't believe I have to explain that hahah
+Bernardo Salles Definitely and also listening to the new Toto album recently and not my thing but a friend said listen and Keith Carlock on the drums is seriously good and I mean seriously good.
+crustyballs Technically brilliant but not my favourite jazz drummer. I prefer the drummers who came a little later and had more feel Steve Gadd, Steve Smith and Peter Erskine but definitely no doubting Buddy's technique but Buddy did not really groove.
+misfit Buddy's really considered the best so widely because he was so famous, he did a huge amount for drumming in terms of people actually paying attention to drums, he's really nowhere near the best (although he is still one of the greats)
def one of my fave drummers also.only "discovering" him after t d and the pick of destiny, and rock band.i knew of nirvana and foo fighters but never paid him no mind till i realized how cool and talended he was.
Still can not comprehend all this hype around him being the best drummer. I mean, really? He may play quite energetic, I understand that. But being the best drummer means having the skill cap way beyound average. Which includes variety of tehcniques, dynamics, complexity, sound, volume control, speed (which I personaly don't find very spectacular). Take a look at John Bonham, Buddy Rich, Chris Coleman, Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan and many other outstanding drummers. These ones proved, they have their individual playing style based on drumming, they brought up so much to the table. But I still can't get it on Dave Grohl. Is this the matter of his behaviour on stage? If so, I would rather call him excellent stage perfomer, than the best drummer in the world.
Well he was the drummer that destroyed a musical era and ushered in a completely new sound that touched millions of people and created its own genre. Or did you just forget about the little band called nirvana?
I totally agree. Most people don't venture into different style drummers like vinnie colaiuta or mike portnoy or even Coleman like you said these are just a few so many that I respect and idolize as a drummer skill is way beyond energy in my opinion
Let me be perfectly clear. In no way am I saying Dave grohl is the best drummer in the world. To say any one person is the best is idiotic at best. But to say Dave grohl didn't bring anything to the music table is completely ignorant. He brought grunge to the table, which ended 80's butt rock hair bands and brought to light a completely new artistic emotion to music. If that isn't bringing something to the table I don't know what is.
+Alex Timifikator Dave is a good rock drummer. He's nowhere near a great drummer. A great drummer can play anything. Dave cannot play anything. He has no serious chops like a Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, JoJo Mayer. I'm not even talking Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, etc. He's not even on the same planet as these guys so stop with the greatest drummer stuff..
Bonham not such good....i don t know why always putting led zep musician.like god...technically they re not so hot...for example in.drum steward coppeland is higher..and i m not reamly fan of police..
It's like going to buy a new car with so many on the lot, it's hard to pick the best one! There are many great drummers and it would be hard to pick the best which makes it really great for us to get to listen to the different styles that's usually controlled by the band's music tract!
I saw Dave Grohl play drums twice, Nirvana and when he played with Mike Watt(minutemen) after Kurt’s death and before he formed foo fighters, he was incredible!
Dave's a great soul, a rock hero, alltime great in two amazing bands, and a great guy to boot but, pure drumming skills, no way c'mon I can knock off 25 drummers right now and the difference is those 25 presented unique inventive styles along with ability, Dave plays amazing but lacks those qualities.
To miss a note is excusable, to.play without passion is inexcusable - Dave Grohl
Actually paraphrasing Beethoven, but still cool.
No passion, no ❤️ all about the love you have for music
Music is all about passion. That's what makes the best musicians what they are.

@@superclean2006 The professor.Thats all you had to say
Damn right
Dave is great! He'd be pissed if he heard his name put above Bonham and the like! He looks up to those guys and has even said how incredible they were, how untouchable etc... Dave is an excellent excellent drummer and musician....but let's pump the brakes on being the best! Seriously
i will never get bored of spinning in daffodils its definitely my favorite track done live.
I love the expressions on his face. I love Dave, I was a teenager in the early 90s and I've loved him since then.
Dave is a world treasure, we as humans don’t deserve him for sure.
"Bon ham"?
Yes.
doesnt he sound like garfield?
Fuckin Kurt lmao
French for " good ham"
@vanessa im never gonna not hear that now hahahahahaha
He exudes passion, precision and excellence. Just something about the way the way he plays lets you know it’s him. That’s the sign of an incredible drummer.
Jack black reacting to Dave, is easily the best part of the video lol
I dedicate this also to Taylor Hawkins Dave Grohl's best friends and band mate who also was a bad ass drummer!🥁🔥💥
Not a single mention for animal from the Muppets from back in the 80s
amo este hombre me hipnotiza su forma de tocar batería puedo quedarme viéndolo el día entero
I love Dave Grohl and I think he's a fuckin' awesome dude. However, no drummer can definitively be the 'best' drummer in the world. It's subjective.
Someone gets it at least :p
***** Agreed. : )
WILL FERRELL IS THE BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD
moresnare 99% subjective. And then, you bring in Neil Peart's drum, and then we all shut up, and worship.
Dave Grohl Oh Dave, you are good, no question. But what about your buddy Taylor Hawkins? I have a theory about why he's so skinny----he burns 5000+ calories laying down drum tracks for FF songs. He's good too, no question.
Dave is legend.
I doubt he ever called himself the best drummer in the world.
He has, but sarcastically
Orlaylay Crawford If that's you...you are hot
simon parker wow really dude, thats just low.
In his recent 60Minutes interview, the guy said "some people would argue that you're the best drummer of your generation" and Dave said "well... I disagree with that"
he's not billy corgan xD
A Drummer, Guitarist, Singer, and a Father
God said and the legend was born
Ya, came out of the Grunge a full man
a legend in his own mind
When dave gives a drum solo and anybody looks to him (band members) and saw him playing. They think he's fucking awesome and we have it here =)
I thought they were jamming into 'Cult of Personality' at the beggining.
Wow! I am really glad this grandma came across this page. Buddy Rich, Gene Kurpa or Bonhamn, I would rate them all as equals, but none surpass. Musical talent isn't and never will be gone.
He looks like vocalist from Nirvana and drummer of foo fighter.
Other way round..... sigh
Duh!
DO mean Nirvana drummer, foos fighter vocalist! Truly talented for someone who struggled with school!
😂😂🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️

"Videos not in order, figure it out" lmao I liked that part in the description almost as much as the video.
Y’all are savage! Ghrol and Hawkins are a tag team! 😎
Spinning in the daffodils is relentless!!! Love it
He doesn't practice, he plays. So he is not a paradiddle drum solo kind of guy, but he plays very tight and has a unique feel. That's why he's one of the best in my opinion. And his work on the TCV album is my favorite.
Same with Ringo.
At 5:40 there is one of the best musical parts I have ever heard
Constantin PL I completely agree
@@Duzidan song?
CoolMediaz Spinning in the Daffodils by Them Crooked Vultures. Use headphones for maximum experience brother!
CoolMediaz I also prefer the live version in my opinion
@@Duzidan i prefer live versions of most songs as well, it feels a bit different and can sound better.
Loving Kurt’s very excellent pronunciation of John Bonham’s last name
Ive heard him with ZZ-Top Oryanthi, blond, but good hrp pßlaying, SHARP DRESSED MAN and there, I fold the rolling Sound of Dave Grohl, thanks man, now im 67years old and beginns to drumm . Really by myself!!
Dave Grohl reminds me a lot of that one drummer from Nirvana.
you're kidding
No man I'm not, I almost feel like their the same person. heh
I wasn't asking, I was saying
I don't see it.
It's been a joke for years man
2:50 is exactly how I play drums 😂😂
2:35 What year was that at blizzcon. Anyone know?
2010 with Tenacious D. 2011 he was there with the Foo Fighters
Timay F. Thanks!
Oh.. it is THAT hansol! :P big fan, big fan man! :P
You cna find the whole show of Tenacious D at Blizzcon
darude-sandstorm
He's extremely talented and so humble and tankfull for is career, I really love the artist but also the man behind the artist! Keep going David!! ❣ (just to mention that i'm not fluent in english, I hope my comment is well written...😉 and well received!)
To me, Dave grohl is one of the best. No one seems to understand how well he composes drums to songs. Of course he won’t sound great when he’s just soloing since there are way better things that he can do in the context of a song.
I don't give a fuck about any others.
Dave Grohl is the best. So much stage presence. :)
Neil Peart! then John Bohnam! Buddy Rich! You must be a young buck. He is playing everyone else's songs, he can play.
David Waters I been playing for 17 years. Not a young buck. And like my last comment. I don't care.
Best drummer in the world? A poor mans Bawn-ham. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Best in the world? Bobby jarzombek...
I have Dave’s drumming gloves from the Paul McCartney concert at Safeco Field in Seattle 🤙🏻
That last clip is sick but Black Sabbath performing "War Pigs" live at the Olympia Theater in Paris, France on December 20, 1970 is the greatest single drumming performance I have ever heard.
thats a neat opinion you got there friendo
Yeah, he's a freaking savage. Still, I gotta go with Neil Peart from Rush.
Best drummer in MY world! WOW
I am a guitarist and wish i was a drummer. I can feel Dave's playing every time i listen to him play My Hero or even "A song for the dead" by QOS. What's crazy is that i like Taylor just as much when it comes to drumming but i love Dave as a whole (and as a musician) wayyy more
This drummer is so much better than the drummer of Nirvana!
+Bas van der Eijk which drummer? they had quite a few
+David Henderson I hope that's a joke too!
+Bas van der Eijk Dave was the 6th drummer...
+BarbzAM
I know that, but he makes it sound like Dave was not in the band.
When I said: ''This drummer is so much better than the drummer of Nirvana!'' I was meaning Dave Grohl himself. It's a joke. I can't believe I have to explain that hahah
but...okay nevermind hahha
Wait that’s Jimbo at 4:00, when did Page and Dave play together?
Foo Fighters Live at Wembly, check it out on their TH-cam. It's quite famous.
You should see some jazz drummers or john bonham.
reminds me of whiplash
+Bernardo Salles Definitely and also listening to the new Toto album recently and not my thing but a friend said listen and Keith Carlock on the drums is seriously good and I mean seriously good.
Buddy Rich
He's great, don't get me wrong, but he's not even close to being the best.
DADONOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVV!!!!!!!!!!
***** The reason I like Grohl as a drummer is simply for the song No One Knows. His work on that is outstanding.
Dave lombardo is the best drummer
I agree with you totally... even Dave says Taylor is better than him. I believe Ray from Korn has them both beat and I've seen a shitload of bands.
+Evgenii Dadonov
Agreed :-)
+khure Sorry but Alex is correct. DG is energetic and seems an all round good guy but nowhere near up there with the best.
Bonham is #1 If Jimmy Page hires you to be his drummer....yer pretty fucking good.
Drummers cry because his cymbals sounds like total crap and his song are as boring as a snare exercise.
Jimmy page did not hire bonzo
Steve B he asked him to join the band, so he kind of did hire him. Jimmy is the founder of Zeppelin.
GREATEST DRUMMER 🥁 INTHE 🌏 WORLD
Ever heard of Neil Peart
+HockeyDrums how about Ginger Baker?
Buddy Rich
Or Dave Weckl...
Darren King?
Yep Neil Peart definitely better
He FEELS like Bonham. And that is DOPE. He is my age and is still on FIRE.
People need to watch jazz drummers they are the greatest bit Dave grohl is impossible not to love
I love Dave, I know Dave, he'll be the first to admit that Bonham is the greatest.
brian roe I guess you have never heard of Steve Gadd.
amigi968 Know him too.
+brian roe ,said this before and i'l say it again, i miss that mad bastard on drums! Makes me rabid .
+brian roe watch the danny cary drum cams....
I disagree Azazel.
Better than Keith Moon or John Bonham? I think not.
No love for Danny Carey?
Mark Webster Not even in the same league
***** I suspected you might be losing your mind, but now I've got actual evidence!
Mark Webster Well I've never actually heard of him so I concluded that if I had to Google him he couldn't be that good. Who does he play with?
***** He's the drummer for Tool.
Danny Carey - Drumming [Drumcam]
Animal in Muppet show? ;-)
Lol
+John Mård No, that's Keith Moon.
+John Mård Thats Travis Barker
LOL
I saw Dave Grohl play drums twice, Nirvana and when he played with Mike Watt(minutemen) after Kurt’s death and before he formed foo fighters, he was incredible!
i love how there's hand signs in the air and not phones
+Benjamin Franklin If there was one thing I could make disappear from the planet it would be cell phones.
More than two bands.
Bateria es interpretación, no improvisación.
There's no such thing as a best drurmmer in the world.
Nor bassist or guitarist or singer and the like.
