This journal is incredibly beautiful, Kathryn, and your teaching style is perfect. Your instructions are meticulously detailed and I love that you provide us with the whys and hows of any amendments that you make. ‘Keeping your videos real’ makes them much more valuable than editing out any errors and/or changes (and far less intimidating). Thank you.
You are welcome and thank you 😊
Love this, have got my dads old address
ote book, he had for years, it’s tatty and broken 😢 but I love it, it’s got his hand written messages, addresses, phone numbers etc of family and friends going back to the 1960’s. it’s sat in a box, with other personal items of his, his first driving license, his national service paperwork. So many things. This would be a great way of having all of these items together, sat out somewhere, so my children and grandchildren can look through, rather than sat in a box in the cupboard.. thank you…. Xx❤️
My pleasure, that sounds wonderful to use your dad's papers ❤️
I am so excited for this project I can't even begin to tell you. Looking forward to spending another year with you. Have a wonderful Yuletide with your family. Much love to you, Stella and the ever elusive Fredfred! 💖
Thank you Gill, blessings to you too ❤️
Beautiful journal !!! Thank you Kathryn for your meticulous explanations of every step in the process of making this lovely journal. I am so excited to see what you do with it in 2025. Sending you big hugs and best wishes for a wonderful Christmas time with your 2 children whom I know you will so enjoy having at home with you for the holiday. Hugs to you and Stella and Fred-Fred !!!!!
Thank you Susan ☺️
I’m excited to start my Big journal. I have a vintage music book whose spine is damaged. I think it will be lovely as my journal.
Thank you, Kathryn, for showing us that we can change our minds. We don’t need to stop before we’re really happy with our journal we’ll be enjoying for a considerable amount of time. ❤️❤️❤️
My pleasure Deb, I don't get it right first time always, who does? And I like to share that too 😁❤️
I thought the picture was of you. She looks like you.❤
Mesmerising Kathryn ❤ I hadn't really thought about how a year long journal would be constructed! I've been waiting for a delivery and took the chance to watch. I'll watch again later on it's dark so early up here - a good reason for a bit of self - I was going to say indulgence but... since it's "silly season" self- care is more apt I think! Big love from Scotland as always ❤️
Excellent, clear demonstration Kathryn. I will need to get busy to have this ready. It's a lot of work but I love the individuality of each page. I used to think, why not just buy a book, thrifted of course, and work in that but now I get it - everything is your creation. This is going to be so fun. Thank you muchly.
I’m so looking forward to slowing down and taking the time to rewatch this. I’ve always wanted to know how to make these and then learn all the projects!!😁 Merry Christmas and may God richly bless you.
Thank you Mary ❤️
Lovely video. ❤❤❤
After watching your videos for the better part of a year, I am finally ready to attempt something :) I will work along with the creation of a big journal. Thanks for the videos and the inspiration. Next up will be sticking my toe in the waters of slow stitching...
I have my covers, but am glad I waited to see your papers. So inspiring how you made smaller ones work in with the large ones. I was wondering how I would find so many of the large folded ones with out buying them. So I will spend some time now rethinking my papers and getting more creative with that step.
Morning Kathryn! Won’t have time for the whole video as busy getting ready for Christmas but this is going to be a fantastic project for next year. Never done anything like it before.💕
Have a brilliant Christmas with your children and of course the furry friends. Please make time for some relaxation as you have had one hell of a year, literally. You have meant so much to so many of us since you set up this wonderful community a year ago and we owe you much gratitude to you for keeping up your ideas and creativity despite what’s been going on in your life. Wishing you much love and best wishes for 2025. ❤
Thank you so much Anne, wishing you a lovely and happy Christmas too. Lots of love ♥️
@ bless you! How you find the time to look at all these posts and reply I just do not know. Amazing lady 🥰👍☺️❤️
Thanks for the clear instructions, Kathryn. So excited about this project!
I'm excited to make this journey! I live north of florida so i have to kept my equipment and "stuff" to start the covers and spine. I love your details and now i can start. Thank you, Kathryn! Merry Christmas!
Dear k3n , lovely creation indeed💐
Thank you Kathryn. Still I'm not planning to make a (large) Journal. But I like to play your videos in the background while I do something (creative). I do make small booklets for 'doodling', watercolour sketching, a.a., but only one signature. Made of sketchbook paper and watercolour paper. To take with me when I go on a trip for a week or weekend. Might call it a 'Travel Journal'. When I feel like it I make a cover out of an old envelop, the kind with a 'window', and I embellish that with collage and mixed media.
That sounds lovely Inge 😊
You are such a good teacher! I have watched other binding instructions and just got overwhelmed. Watching your process actually made me feel that I can do this and I am looking forward to Christmas getting past and getting a good start! I have a basket of paper and things I am collecting...ready to go! I hope your visit with your children is happy and filled with good times!
Thank you Candace, on both counts. Wishing you a happy Christmas too ❤️
The journal looks amazing and can’t wait to see it grow. I shall be doing the comfort cloth next year and I am so excited for that. ❤️
Excellent instructions k3n! I love making books with this method and yours turned out beautifully! Looking forward to next year! 👏🏻❤
very cool
This is going to be my project for the new year. Bind my first journal. I love watching your videos. I started slow stitching because I found your channel. Thanks for doing what you do, and sharing it with us. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
That is a gorgeous journal!! I love it! I can't wait till you start filling it up with your talent and imagination!! Hugs ❤
Not defterini ne güzel yaptın ketrin çok beceriklisin elinden her iş geliyor 👏😊
Dear Kathryn, thank you so much for going through this process with us in such detail ❤. I'm ready with my book covers and pages, and your detailed instructions for making the spine and sewing in the signatures is just what I needed 😂.
Enjoy the holidays, and I look forward to following this project in 2025 ❤.
This is going to be so much fun. Happy Holidays to you and family and all the K3N followers. And furry friends ! !
Thank you Doreen, lots of love to you ❤️
Paylaşımlarınız için teşekkür ederim, ellerinize emeğinize yüreğinize sağlık ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊
My pleasure thank you ♥️
Great tutorial! I'm in the process of preparing some signatures and will definitely be following this for the covers.
❤
Excellent demonstration. May you your Children..Stella and FredFred have a Merry Christmas 🤶 🎄. Enjoy your special time together ❤️
Thank you Pam, I wish you a happy and peaceful time too ❤️
Great job on sewing in signatures. That is always the most stressful part of making a journal for me. I can’t wait to watch you create 2025. Your channel is so inspiring, thank you for sharing your creative process on your different projects with the world.
I thought your brave girl journal was for next year. Oops. I've got my journal all ready. it just needs to be bound and decorated. Excited.
Two journals, the brave girl one just as an art journal, this one for daily journaling 😁❤️
Lovely.
So exciting to see you work! ❤️
Delicious!
I can’t wait to start this afternoon. What a fun year we will have. Happy Holidays.
Crystal clear as usual and impressively inspirational, merci merci merci
Hi Kathryn, I find if I stand my glue upside down in a jar it’s easier to use xxxxx loving the journal xxxx
Thank you 😊
super !! bravo ! un beau projet à suivre tout le long de l'année 2025 ! je vous suit chaque mercredi ! Merci beaucoup pour le partage !
Merci Houria, joyeux Nöel à toi ❤️
I love making these personalized books! I enjoy making the signitures and binding it all, it's so interesting the whole process ❤ Thanks for the lesson😊
I learned a lot of new things about book binding watching your video; I took an online course long ago--but it didn't include your little hints and tips (eg: how to hold signature when poking holes so they go through straight)--and how to reinforce the spine using old, hardback book covers. Thank you so much for this wonderful video.
I am trying to incorporate mixed media slowly into my works--I don't really like the "messy" aspect to paints, etc.; I've mainly done glue booking using papers and old magazine images ....and fabric books. I will be looking forward to seeing your work in this beautifully set up volume this coming year...hugs, Julierose🥰
So glad it was helpful Julie ❤️
❤❤❤
I am really looking forward to this next year. I have learned so much from you in 2024. I am in the process of collecting and preparing for a journal, looking twice at papers I have. My mind is swirling with ideas. I hope you are enjoying the Christmas season with your children.
Another fun project! ❤
It is going to be fun watching you work in this!🌹🌹🌹
Thank you for the brilliant tutorial. I really appreciate the explanations of why as well as how to do things and your teaching style is excellent. I am hoping to make mine after Christmas ready for the start of the year. Looking ahead I would love to know how to do that image transfer. Looking forward to another year of your tutorials, this year has been brilliant and I am very grateful to you for all you time, experience and expertise.
Wishing you and your family a lovely Christmas.
My pleasure Sue, wishing you a happy Christmas season ❤️
Looking forward to creating this journal and following you weekly for 2025! Thank you K3N for this inspiration to get me back into journaling and creating mixed media art again it’s been a few years since I’ve done it , wishing you a blessed Christmas and a happy new year❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonderful! A real education!😄
What’s the approximate size of the pages please Kathryn . Can I make a smaller size one.?
Yes, absolutely, you can make any size you like. My pages are around A4, I believe that is known as letter size in the US, the size of regular copy paper. ❤️
Where can I find the instructions for the fabric stitch journal you made last year? Will you be using a stitch journal in 2025
th-cam.com/video/RgpZ1BhFzI8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hVnUcGyypXxxmFtg here is part one for the journal I have been using this year. I am making a Slowstitch cloth in the coming year, there will be a video every Wednesday and I will be offering suggestions as to how to use the pieces in a journal if you prefer ♥️
Why not buy an old hardback book from a charity shop and use the boards from that. Plenty of oversized books available. ❤❤❤
These are covers from an old book 😉❤️
@ I was suggesting this to the community as an alternative to using the back of pads , sorry I should have been clearer. I fully understood you were using and old encyclopaedia cover.
Oh I am sorry, of course 😁 good idea thank you ❤️
I’m concerned about the use of masking tape. Masking tape gets brittle and crumbles over time (at least in the US). Have you noticed the binding getting loose? Or does the glued fabric and sewn binding keep it all together? Packaging tape might be longer lasting, either gummed paper or plastic on a roll.
I would use gummed paper if I had any, I just used what I had. If it breaks I will repair it but I think with the glue and the stitching, it will hold ok ❤️
