Damn, Iwata! His last line of the presentation was fierce, and spot-on! "Will be first to market, will be done their own way, and will succeed". That was everything the Wii was. And people want Iwata fired. Pssshh.
I remember my internet connection was so slow watching these early e3 videos. This is my earliest memory of Iwata. His hair looked like one of the Beatles here! RIP Mr.Iwata.
LOL Bill's hair back then. Well it was still only 3 years into the 00's, so of course he's going to have a 90's hairstyle. Man that kind of makes me feel old to see him with that hairstyle. :) I also have that Pac-Man game and can't play it yet because I don't have the GameBoy to GameCube cable.
How did Bill Trinen translate the first sentence Miyamoto said as he was still saying it, before he even got to complete it? I think Bill had that line pre-memorized and it was given to him beforehand, because Japanese word order is the reverse of English sometimes anyway.
So looking back, this show actually wasn't as bad as I recalled. The old IGN disappointed group pic looms large over this memory, but any year that has games like Double Dash, F-Zero GX and a Soul Calibur 2 with Link in it can't be all bad. Also, Wario Ware Inc. ;) Too, Iwatani and Kojima were there, which is pretty sweet in itself. I might say that 2007 was an even weaker show, with its only real saving grace being "My body is ready." That said, yes. This was a REALLY weak show. With their lacking console adoption at this time, introducing more cumbersome post-launch peripherals to buy certainly wasn't the way to go about that. An arcade Pac-Man is also not the game one should use as a headliner in 2003, and absolutely not one that would just end up as a pack-in bonus for Pac-Man World 2. Mind you, the arcades were dying, and this was pitted against games like Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. It makes one thankful that 2004 followed this show. BTW, now I'd like to see Miyamoto play Mr. Pink in Reservoir Dogs.
the early 2000s look quite retro now.
"The king of gaming, Nintendo"
They still are. The others just do interactive movies with QTE and pwetty gwaphics !
