Win number 35 was vintage Mark, showcasing his unbelievable skills against the best sprinters in the world. His win showed that sprinting is not just about power, but also about teamwork, racecraft, and experience with the Manx Missile proving he has all of those in spades.
I'm not British , just an Idiotic Australian. I've been following Cav's career since 2010 when I returned to cycling. His skill, his will and his bollocks have never been in doubt. But his dedication to achieve this 35th tdfv win have been an epic thing to witness. The moment between Cav and Vinokourov during Cav's press conference was beautiful. Two veterans. Vino believed in Cav and gave him opportunities when nobody else was willing to do so. Now Cav has delivered. It's a beautiful story in bike racing. Thumbs up to Vino for believing, and to Cav for doing the business
I'm so happy Cav won, I think the entire world of Cav fans all breathed a sigh of relief after they were done screaming from excitement. Well Fucking done.
Dan you are an amazing presenter! Thank you so much for putting this together. I watched the stage live, 2am in Sydney. I could not help but jump up off the couch, arms in the air, goosebumps all over. What an amazing moment in cycling history. What an inspiration. Masterclass in drive and determination. Glad I could witness it. 💙
The length of Cav's time as "one of the best sprinters in the world" is for me his finest achievement. It's staggering. He has seen greats come and go and he's still here.
The line…..sir Mark Cavendish’s Professional career started in 2007….is all you need to hear, because it’s now 2024, and he has just won a stage on the TDF again…..his 35th, and there is as far as I know, no other rider in this tour, who has such a celebrated and longstanding career….whilst still winning….still totally gobsmacked and in awe…👍🇮🇲👌
Dan - Thanks for staying in the office late to make this video. Fantastic. No surprise. At least these are the long days of summer and you may have returned home late, but still during daylight hours. Please let us in the GCN Community know how we can support the effort to get you and GCN back into a place where you can provide commentary on racing real-time. It may not be the TdF just yet, given other big-time media outlets' stakes. I'd be happy to hear you call some random lower-ranking race. It's all about cycling, big-time or grass-roots.
I must admit, I was literally sat right on the edge of my seat, shouting at the telly at the end there! The level of grit and determination, in addition to the talent of course, to achieve all that he has despite all the bad times that he's been through is phenomenal. He's a true legend, and simply the best. Chapeau Sir Mark Cavendish, and chapeau GCN and Dan Lloyd for this fabulous tribute to him and his achievements.
Hats off to Cav, what an amazing record! I read somewhere that Pogacar would need to win a stage in the 2036 TdF to equal Cav's longevity, which gives you some idea what a monumental achievement this is, particularly as Cav is a sprinter which is a discipline traditionally favouring younger riders. We seem to be in a bit of a golden age in cycling, with a great like Cav delivering a moment for the history books and fierce competition between Vingo, Pog, Remco, Rog, where the final result could go to any of them, and there's also amazinng classics riders like WvA, MvdP, Girmay, just an exciting time to be watching racing!
I grew up watching this guy race, I may not ride competitively myself, but he is the main reason I fell in love with cycling and am now a mechanic. Just about anyone else would have long given up but Cav is just something else... and the way he did it! A real legend and inspiration.
The stage 5 win is even more memorable because it is classic Cav style win. Lot of intuition and little bit of luck and surfing the wheels. I hope he gets another couple this tour, but the way he won it is an epic way sunset the career.
That last km was something else. Watching it live, I leapt out of my chair when they started to put the hammer down. Cav showed Incredible anticipation and skill - what a win!
Thanks for a brilliant article on the Amazing Mark Cavendish Dan! (It was great to see his win the stage his 35 win your analysis of it and the other riders paying respect to him)
I wont lie, I cried when I saw the win. I've followed Cavs entire career. Met him a dozen times, have 10 pics with him amd have the same amount of autographs from him and they are all framed on my wall in my man cave. I wouldnt sell any of them. These are mine FOREVER!!! People that have NEVER met him say hes a d1ck but he was always cordial and nice with me. I I want to thank all the haters for doubting him. That is when Cav shines the most!! SIR CAV THE LEGEND #35 🤘🏻🏴
What the heck is Mark Cavendish going to do with the rest of his life? He's obviously the kind of guy who rises to a challenge, and then achieves success, no matter what. I hope he finds something worthy of his capabilities. A ton of people, (and organizations), could benefit from that. Sir Mark has made his mark, and I hope he does so again in other walks of life.
Massive Respect 🔥 Winners Win and Hard Work Pays 🏆 Anyone else admire the bunny hop of the Cofidis rider over the falling rider 100m from the finish 😵💫🤯
I'm still re-watching the 35th win in awe; perhaps one of the greatest sporting achievements ever, to still "have it" at that stage of a career, and so definitively so. Writing this now, after he's officially retired after the race in Singapore (which he won), I have a growing sense of "was there more to come?". Ok, so he / they didn't get it together in the rest of the TdF, but his win in Singapore - against some pretty good and younger legs - was pretty convincing. He's in pretty good shape. His instincts are as perhaps as finely tuned as any sprinter's can (they've had a lot of honing). Could he win more grand tour stages? Maybe. But then again, maybe not. And, if you've going to choose to go, going on one's own terms, on a high, with a near unbeatable "match that if you dare" record on one's CV and leaving them wondering if there could have been more is a pretty satisfying way of retiring. Congrats Cav, you've done it all!
Didn't care much for him early in his career. The arrogance and seemingly entitlement were a bit much. But since his comeback, then humility has shown through, and I've been rooting for him the last several years. Great to see him accomplish this fete, especially knowing how difficult the last few seasons is were. Kudos Sir
Fantastic summary! The only TV cable provider available to me no longer carries the Tour de France (the TV highlight of my year + the most idiotic programming decision of all time). Yours was the best coverage of this momentous event I've found on TH-cam. Thank you.
Mark is a phenomenon….the end, , there will be no other to do what he has done, to endure what he has endured, and at 39 yrs old and nearly 20 yrs as a professional cyclist, prove once again why he is the 🇮🇲”Manx Missile” 🇮🇲…. Absolutely astounding that he has once again, had to silence the haters, well I’m with him…..as a Manxman born and bred, Sir Mark Cavendish…you are officially, the greatest pro Cyclist ever in my mind…..🇮🇲👍👌🐐🏆
Fantastic Career Recap Dan of Cav I had forgotten some of it👏🏻👏🏻😍 I think you should do more stage recaps since you gone from our screens OR at least get in Chris Horner maybe 🤔🤞🏻
Really happy for Cav but Pog already on 17 wins and still only 25. Cav went to Tadej and said don’t beat it but if he stays fit I wouldn’t bet against him.
Well that's not true, the cannibal has 525 wins in his career, Cav has only 165. Greatest Tour sprinter but not the greatest Sprinter. That's Cipo. 170 Career wins
Find the side angle of him crossing the finish line, as he sits up to celebrate he either drops the chain or it snaps. I'm so happy it didn't happen 50 meters earlier and cost him that win. What a racer.
Mark Cavendish has done it! Celebrate with us in the comments 🥳
Record can be superseded by Tadej Pogačar in the future if he keeps it up.
Of course
Congratulations to Mark. Well deserved. One of the best sprinters EVER. At age 39 too
Might be a coincidence GCN is killing it since going independent again. The in depth sprint analysis is so useful

Unreal from Cav and his team. Brilliant, I don't think outside cycling , people realise how special he is. Certainly one greatest British sportsman.
Outstanding recap of Mark Cavendish's career "so far" and nice trip down memory lane. Well done!
Awesome review on Mark's background, cheers mate
Thanks Jonathan.

Probably one of your best videos - ever. Cav's amazing story shows why the unscripted drama of top level sport is so riveting.

I know nothing about cycling and this video was amazingly well put
I hope they'll make a film about Cav. What an extraordinary career.
Excellent comment 👍

I did not know this is what it meant when Strava finally added ‘Knight Mode’. Congrats Sir Mark Cavendish 🎉🎉🎉
Always happy to see Mark winning. I feel like he won't be stopping at win number 35.
Age but a number brilliant Mark

Great vid Dan . Glad I saw the historic race .
Still prime at 39, an inspiration 🎉
Allez The Goat - Chapeau! And huge kudos to Axel Zingel for ‘that’ bunny hop !
That bunny hop was so smooth!
He picked a few locks, muscled a few door, and hey hey what do you know,
walked right on into the history books.
Chapeau Cav 👏👏👏
Great storytelling Dan! Its an awesome moment,
Well done to Dan and GCN for this segment. A beautiful tribute to Sir Mark and the legacy he brings to cycling!
Brilliantly done piece on Cav. Well done Dan. Thank you

Awesome! I've been waiting to see this. Congratulations mark you deserve it.😊
Beautiful hommage. Thanks GCN
Climbing is my love, but followed Mark since with Quickstep, did not expect this but so deserved

i was never a cav fan but it was great to see him break the record and as he has aged he resonates with me more

Could not be happier for Mark and British Cycling. An absolute amazing achievement. ❤💪🚲
So many challenges in those last seconds of the spring and he managed all of them brilliantly. Just amazing.
Great video to see the history. Thanks 👍 What a legend 👏
That's amazing. Congratulations to Cavendish.
Great story,,,,,,well done, congratulations Mark Cavendish!!!!!!!!
really hope they can get more wins! i remember being a young and watching him destroy everyone in sprints, and now 30 year old me just wants more!
A legend, an inspiration.
Thank you Dan for an excellent summary. It has been a thrill to follow Cav’s career with your sparkling commentary.
And here I am, watching a Cavendish documentary where Lance said Cavendish couldn't break that record 😂😂😂
Amazing video! What a great tribute to one of the greatest in the sport!

Way to go, Mark!
A lovely summary of an outstanding career
It's unbelievable and you guys should be very proud. Truly unbelievable.
Great history lesson...what a champion ...what an entertainer....time for Mark to write his final book 🚲
The GOAT 🐐 MC. Patience has its award if you can wait. This is history 🙏 💪
Great video - chapeau Sir Mark!
yea im so happy for him, its amazing

Excellent summary of Cav’s road career and his incredible tactical instincts that were key to #35 and many other stage wins 👏🙏
Everyone celebrating him right after crossing the line is so wholesome
What an awesome video, really great commentary
Well presented and spoken Dan.
Out of this world
Great video, guys! Sir Cav deserved this! The G.O.A.T. sprinter now can retire proving the world what he always knew: never doubt Sir Mark Cavendish!
The only way up for Cav now is a GCN presenter job
They couldn't pay the autism Gu enough. #Neurodivergent
Eeeehhhhh.....errmmmm.....dunno about that really.....🤣😂
A very articulate and knowledgeable lad 👍

Fantastic Career Recap Dan of Cav I had forgotten some of it👏🏻👏🏻😍 I think you should do more stage recaps since you gone from our screens OR at least get in Chris Horner maybe 🤔🤞🏻
Can’t believe there aren’t more comments about his wheel change and apparent mechanical advantage that caused his chain to drop at the finish.
Inspiring
Lovely video 👏👏👏
Awesome video!
I'm 62 and I'm ready to push on again on my old Team Sky Pinarello 😂👊
Well done Mark!
It's a shame he didn't ride in 2022. Assuming 35 wouldn't have automatically meant retiring, he'd be playing with +40 wins
So when's the new Manx Missile documentary coming out? What a story of perseverance!
I can see a Netflix Documentary in the making .
Already exists...
@@CBMaster2 well the gotta update it!

Fair play well done. I've bought 3 pairs of those socks from Primark.

@@whatwelearnedWhat are you talking about 'salty boy'? What does that even mean? Eddie has complimented him in his success.
@@agamemnonhatred You're kidding? You know Merckx is legendarily precious and self absorbed over all his records right?
They were traveling at 66kmh near the finish, what speed did Mark reach in that final mad sprint?
Calm and classy. What can they give him now that he already has a knighthood? Sports person of the year again please.
congrats me old china🥇, you have another 2 to take in this years tdf
He'd have won more stages if he didn't lose a few years to illness.
Stop it 😢I have only just recovered from yesterday 😢😢😢
He is in last place in the Tour de France. It will be amazing if he can finish Tour
Was Cavendish using a motorized bike?
I think so, yes.
