The e39 Wagons are nice. Go for it. My wife had 525it 1999, that was 2 cars ago. I wish she would of kept it. It was great for trips and picking up big ticket items. She traded it in 2013, with 235k and it ran strong, for an e91 wagon. The e91 got total when someone rear-ended her, so she bought another e91.

All videos of this installation, all mechanics leave the bolt retaining Clip for the generator bearing. My has the instructions “ important: your components may contain a bolt retaining clip. This clip must be remove before installation.”

Love this guy but he used the shittiest ratchet known to man to loosen that tensioner and idler. Made this quick/simple job more difficult than it has to be. Also these parts are super cheap on FCP EURO. Btw the oil filler cap is a common leak, upgrade by installing an N55 oil filler cap that you can also buy on FCP 👍🏼

Nathan can you bring some details your next TH-cam videos about what brand you using of parts etc. this time using INA parts of belt idler and pulley. So what are your faforite brands when BMW needs parts?

Setup (including getting tools and matching needed tools during the job), always takes longer than the job itself. Story of my life.

I have a 540i Sports Wagon and I get positive comments on it all the time. It is rare and unique. Get it.

Hey Nathan, hilarious comment at 11:36, "sounds like a sack of buttholes". I will have to start using that one!!! If it's not otherwise trashed I would jump on the 5 series wagon. Would like to see you get another e46 when a good comes around too.

Thanks for the vid DIY of this! This is something I an contemplating doing in due course as preventative maintenance, these belts and tensioners seem to last, but when they fail they apparently tend to cause nightmares - belt gets shredded and eaten by the engine at the front main seal. I’ve done this on my various E46s over the years, but not my E90, biggest worry for me is that big yet fragile aluminum bolt, which I’ve heard can snap when trying to loosen. Will just have to work very carefully then and dig out the torque wrench for the tightening of the new bolt. Also curious to know which brand of parts used, otherwise I’ll just opt for OEM if not stupidly expensive.

I have a 2011 E82 128i that had the power steering pulley bolts back out. I was very surprised as there are 3 of them holding the pulley on. since im doing a new pulley should i replace the rest of it to get it to a known good state? Is this something you have ever heard of happening before?

You're just like me, no matter how times you change the belts, you end up having to look at the diagram to put the new belt on the right way.

Wagons are in lately, they're much less common than sedans and hard to find cheap so you should probably get it. Also you should be able to get more for it than a sedan when you're done with it and ready to sell it.

Its like 40 minutes from my house , however I really do have enough cars right now, there was a wrecked e39 m5 close to me also, thought about doing a m5 wagon but the guy sold the m5 for $4k

If you want a trouble free wagon, buy a 2003 Volvo V70 non aspirated, non AWD and you will never have to deal with any problems except a drivers side window and door handle. I have a 2003 V70 that is still going strong at 187K with just simple maintenance, just saying to save you from any headaches.

@@NathansBMWWorkshop yes they did but if you changed them before a 100k you were ok. I had to change mine prematurely because of the water pump, which took a dump at 184K. I traded it from a 2003 Range Rover that spent more time in the shop then on the road.
