I did this too today😂 i was using the hammer, see some move but the rotor didn't want to come off, but it worked after put the handbrake down. Do you think i did damage to handbrake system because of the hammer?

Remember when TH-cam videos like this didn't exist? Yeah, sure you do! So, I decided to do this myself after coming across this video several weeks ago. Can I tell you, I am glad I decided to do this myself! you saved me a lot of money! Apart from the money saved, there is no better feeling than the trust you have in the mechanic because the mechanic is YOU! If I could give you a thousand likes, I would give you twice that! @@fcpeuro Oh yeah! You helped tremendously indeed. I also have to say to people out there who are questioning their abilities or can't handle repair costs...There are alternatives to high cost auto repairs. People just have to be willing to watch videos like this and put in the time and effort. In fact, I have always been ok with car repairs but after buy my E90, I questioned whether I could even change the oil. I am so confident in my ability to move around and underneath my car now that I will now take any money I would have spent on a mechanic and purchase tools instead! Tools that will last a lifetime and contribute towards all of my repair jobs!. My next job will be swapping out the calipers for some really cool fancy ones. In fact, I have already purchased them at a great price but I will put them on when the weather gets better. Thanks again, brother! BIG THUMBS UP!!!

Appreciate the terrific (and thorough) video! Used it today to do the job on my 2009 328xi, and the only thing I'd add is a hint regarding a mysterious scratching/mild grinding sound that occurred after I finished one side and pulled the car out of the driveway so that I could turn it around to do the other side..
I took the wheel off twice, thinking that perhaps the dust shield was contacting the wheel or rotor before realizing that it was the parking brake that had not seated correctly. When I gave the handle a few pulls while driving slowly down my block, the assembly re-seated in the new rotor and the sound went away.
The other helpful hint I've got is something I learned from my best friend, who showed up just before I began the second side. I had mentioned to him that it was difficult tugging the old rotor off the parking brake shoes. He suggested I spin the rotor while pulling it off, and that worked like a charm after it initially got hung up on the shoes.
Other than those few "hiccups," the job went very smoothly and I have your video to thank for it ... so THANKS! ;-)

Great Video. I've never used the caliper lub before. Replacement brakes on a BMW are usually noisy but after replacing mine on my Vert. with the lub they were as quiet as new. I also got to mine before the sensor light activated and was able to reuse the rotors with a 10 dollar each machine turning. One other thing. Shade trees like me will forget that the parking brake has to be off to get the rear rotor removed. I reviewed your video when they wouldn't turn loose and realized my mistake before I got a bigger hammer. All told your Video saved me about a Thousand Bucks. Thanks a Lot.

If you are having trouble with the 16mm bolts holding the caliper carrier, try using a six point 5/8" spark plug socket, and combine using a 3/4" box end on the socket with an impact driver. Works great!

I had a hell of time trying to get my rear rotor of yesterday. I didn't think about disengaging the hand.
DUUUUDE!, the second he said "nows a good time to inspect your parking shoes" I was like FUUUU... That's why I can't get them off. Scrolled through comments for confirmation but that's definitely my issues and now i feel like an idiot lol.
Good job, you also may put some anti-seize grease on the little screw that hold the rotor in place.

It's a good idea to open the reservoir before compressing the piston and check fluid level after you are complete
That is because fools like to add fluid not realizing it is low because the pads are worn. It is a completely closed system and the fluid changes color since it is hygroscopic but the quantity never changes unless there is a leak somewhere.

There are some really great mechanic videos on TH-cam but yours was above the rest. Honestly, it's incredibly useful the way you precisely explained what you are doing, and sometimes mentioned the "why" too when it was useful to do so.
I wish I could find a local mechanic with the attention to detail you have, instead of just whack everything together and clean nothing etc. Tend to do things myself to get a good job done.
I really wish you would have said what size Allen bits and other size wrenches in the video. Great video and thanks!

Very good video. Thank you. I always try to keep in mind the proper bolt tightness. I know you mention "tight is tight", but I'm not dialed in to what that means. Can you give a torque indication for tightening the bolts?

I didnt get sensors with my cheapassed Amazon kit, so I just cut the plug off sensor-side and jumped it out so the light goes off. 0 ohms is ok. Its a NC circuit and nothing in the "sensor", just an open circuit when it wears to that point the sensor is at.

Your. Videos are awesome as always! I'm about to order brake kit from FCP , only thing looks confusing is how the brake wear wires are supposed to be snaked from the box to the pad- maybe it's more clear when your doing it but just worried about routing it incorrectly
they have plastic clips that hold the cable, just follow them, mine does anyway
I used this video to replace my rear brakes and rotors! Excellent resource. I only found a brake wear sensor on my passenger side rear, but none on my driver's side rear; no hookup either. Is there only one per side?

There are 2 16mm bolts for the carrier and the guide pins are 7mm Allen key

Caliper bolts are stuck on mine. I used an impact, some WD-40 and nothing works.
I have been having a loud clicking in my rear left wheel area especially when turning left, I heard it may be seized up parking brake or the components of the parking brake does that make any sense? (E92)

I have 200k on my 328i and I never replaced the rotors. The thickness is within specs and all I do is replace the pads when they are worn down to 10%. The rotors have no run out and no vibration. Maybe save some money by using the rotors a little longer?
+tyau1234 I assume you do a lot of highway driving? If the rotors are within spec and there is no run out there is no need to replace them.

SO i had an issue with the sensor. What is the part called that you connect the sensor to for the rear passenger side wheel. at 5:11 you depressed the clip. The clip that was being detached corroded and when I went to remove it it basically crumbled in my hand because it rotted away. How do I replace the wiring for the new sensor to be attached? please help. where can I even buy it?
I got regular rotors for the rear and put them on but everytime I drive slow it sounds like bent and i can hear the back drive side rattle as im driving on the frreway against the wall? is there something i dd wrong? do the rotors need to be on certain side? Like the back left driver side and back right passenger side. Need help ASAP!! Thanks
Do you not have to adjust the handbrake aswell after fitting?
Use as little lube on the pads as possible, it will also collect dust & therefore eventually moisture...

NEVER put grease on the wheel hub! If you brake really hard the wheel bolts might snap because the wheel will keep turning because of the low friction. The friction is needed, so just keep it clean. This is very dangerous because you could loose a wheel at the worst time!

Just remember to no have your hand brake on I was like 2h trying to remove the disc when I released that the hand brake was on

Do you not have to open the reservoir and then bleed the brake? I thought pressing on the caliper without opening the reservoir could damage the master cylinder. I know Honda’s you don’t have to open the reservoir but can you now do it like this on bimmers too?
Taking off the reservoir cap isn't a bad idea to help relieve some pressure.

Where did you get those metal clips fitted to the back of the brake pads? I bought brake pads and they didn't have those clips fitted.
Hello, the rear inboard pads come equipped with them from the factory so that they can clip into the piston.
Quick question, if I’m only changing the pads without the rotors, is it required go change the sensors? Even if the sensors are bad do I still need them to be changed or is it just for convenience to have new sensors?
You don't have to change them, only if you want the brake pad sensors to work.

Hi, I have very small groves on my BMW driver side rotor. Dealer told me not to worry cause it’s just debris that gets in between disk and rotor. The thing is that they don’t seem to go away, and I don’t see this on other cars neather. The brake pads seam to be good still. Do you think this sound ok?

I wouldn't be too concerned if you don't have vibration in the brake pedal while slowing down from highway speeds. I would change the rotors out when you're ready for the next brake pad change.

Is replacement of the wear sensor required? Each time the rotors are changed or even when you just change the pads?
If the sensor isn't worn down then you don't have to replace.
does it matter to use silver or copper grade anti-seize on the hub? also I have seen in another video they applied anti-seize on the centering screw.
It doesn't matter the type, you just want to sand the hub quick to have a smooth surface before applying.

+Zebe Zebe It's antisieze. However, it's not really required and it can even cause rotor run-out if too much is applied. It's best to clean the wheel hub really well and install the rotor on the hub without any type of lubricant.

Usually all BMW's will have one in the front and one in the rear!

What about resetting the brake wear sensor light on the dash?..
You can do that through the OBC, iDrive, or simply let it reset itself. The sensor had not been triggered in this case so there was no reason to reset it.
