My mom is 82. This is her favorite song by Billy. She now has Alzheimer’s disease, she is still able to remember a lot but if she starts getting frustrated, I start singing or humming this song. She drops whatever we were talking about and relaxes.
Music is so important. My grandmother had dementia with aphasia. She never spoke after a certain point but she could still sing along with her favorite songs. Now my mom has dementia. I remember the frustrated stage and it's so hard to watch. Mom is in a care facility now and I got her a dementia music player. It's like an mp3 player but it's a radio sized box with a giant on/off button on top and a volume knob on the side. So she can still enjoy music, which is extra important since she's not able to do much else anymore. Best to you and your mom and may you always have music in your lives. ❤
Billy was married to top model Christie Brinkley for 9 years, and they had their daughter Alexa during that time. Alexas is a performer now as well and has been on stage with BIlly a few times. He named his song Downeaster Alexa after her. It's the story of the problems in the fishing industry on the east coast. He also did a great song called Allentown putting the downfall of the American steel industry on display. By all means, react to both songs.
Dude Billy wrote the song "Shameless" made hugely famous by Garth Brooks. Beautiful amazing song. Billy sang & recorded "shameless" it's still good. Billy Joel is one of those artists that just blow your mind with their pure genius he is a gift to the world❤
Billy Joel is a master of his craft one of the best singer songwriters of his generation. His gigs at MSG are legendary one of those performers you have to see at least once.
He's retired from doing them i think. His last concert was broadcast . The outrage when the network cut the last bit in the middle of piano man made them apologize and broadcast it again.
When you get the chance you should react to Billy's song Allentown. Its about the closing the factories down and the hopelessness of the current (of the time he wrote it) generation. I saw him in concert in Allentown, my hometown. He was right on. I'm 72 and love your reactions.
Downeaster Alexa is a similar theme. The lyrics describe the struggles of local fisherman, trying to make a living like their fathers and grandfathers. Not so easy to do in this modern age.
I’m a Pennsylvania girl, from an area near Pittsburgh that suffers to this day from the closing of so many mills. ‘Allentown’ has always held a place in my heart. It hits very close to home
Simply one of the best. Luckily my wife and I saw him in concert at the Ohio State stadium. He was with Elton John. Amazing. Mr. Joel has dozens of great hits.
Christy Brinkley was his wife, and was actually one of the first “Supermodels”. She was in so many glamour magazines like Vogue, Seventeen, Elle, Glamour, all the fashion magazines us girls used to scan through endlessly, searching for the holy grail of beauty. She was an entity unto herself, like Lauren Hutton and Elle McPherson, she helped define my generation of women for fashion and beauty! 😊
Yes his wife was super model Christy Brinkley and she was in this video and also Uptown Girl. She also painted the cover of this album. Also in this video was their daugher Alexa. Billy Joel has another song called The Downeaster Alexa about the captain of a fishing boat called the Alexa named after his daughter. It is another awesome song by Joel about the working class.
I have seen Billy Joel 4 time in concert and he never disappointed. Great Performer - Only the Good Die Young would be a great next song. For the Longest Time, Uptown Girl, Still Rock N Roll to me.......
I love Billy Joel and watching younger people discovering old. You should watch his song Baby Grand with Ray Charles. Rainy Day Women by Bob Dylan, Year of the Cat by Al Stewart, with one of the greatest sax solos ever. If you like Kim Carnes, you should listen to Melissa Etheridge. Bring Me Some Water and Yes I Am. Or Brave and Crazy.
I saw Billy Joel many years ago in Yankee Staduim. He has such a huge catalog of music. I really love his music, his piano playing, his voice. He is in a league of his own
This song and and All About Soul off the same album (River of Dreams) are my two favorites by this immensely talented man but just by a whisker because this dude has lots of hits.
Billy Koel is amazing. He's multi-talented; his songs are all so different from each other; his lyrics are deep; he's a master musician; a great singer; what's not to like??? I think he's an absolute treasure.
More Billy Joel! All the Billy Joel! He basically does any and all genres, doo-wop, rick n roll, r and b. I highly recommend Big Man on Mulberry Street. It isn't on of his hits but it's one of my favorites.
Billy Joel is crazy talented. His piano playing and his range of not only his voice, but the types of songs he sings. He can sing rock, he can sing love songs, he can spit out bars!! This song was crazy popular back in the 90's, you probably know it just by hearing it on the radio/in stores, it was constantly played.
I can appreciate this song more now than when I was younger, I love Billy, his voice, where he goes up high sounds so cool, he's got such a unique style and way to take us all back in time...which makes his music timeless...totally reminds me of listening to music w/my dad in the 80's....he had a whole set up...strobe lights, big wood bass speakers...he would do a pretend countdown every weekend and we would jam out!
YESSS! My favorite Billy Joel song! And you did the official video! When this came out in the 90s it was MY song. The whole album is great. NEXT? For your girls you gotta do "LULLABY" next.
Such various sounds from one artist. This is why we fall in love with all genres of music. Grew up listening to big band, Motown, rock, disco, metal, jazz, gospel, pop, alternative. Why Led Zeppelin is my favorite, rock, hard rock, country, blues, middle eastern sounds all combined.
Hey Pegasus - Thanks for this - I really love this song and Billy is another example of an artist who has many songs where they are my favorite, as I am listening to them. Then I re-hear another great one from him and say the same thing as I am listening...
@BlackPegasusRaps - DUDE! I used to love this song when it was released here in Australia. It spent one week at #1 in the Australian ARIA (AUSTRALIAN RECORD INDUSTRY AWARDS) charts in August 1993, I was 20 years old at the time. It was The title track from his final STUDIO album also named River of Dreams and was his last entry in the ARIA Top 10. This song is in my top five Billy Joel songs of all time In my order of preference, if I had to choose it would look something like this 1. Piano Man 2. Uptown Girl 3. We Didn’t Start The Fire 4. River of Dreams 5. You May Be Right There are many more of his songs that I love and it was hard deciding my top five but I think this list is fairly accurate personally. I’m sure there are plenty of people that would disagree with me but probably a few that would think I was pretty close
Between Joel''s songwriting and his crack band who stayed with him his entire 30 year career at Columbia/Sony, it was "A pretty easy process everytime we went into the studio..they'd know how to play what I was feeling and figure all thier parts/rhythm out within the hour, and we'd be ready to record" He told Rolling Stone.
Christy Brinkley is his ex-wife. she appeared briefly in the video painting the album cover for the River Of Dreams album. I heard an interview where billy said something about when he saw the painting and decided that's the album cover. She also appeared in Uptown girl.
Billy doesn’t have one bad song in his ridiculously large catalog. he is a true legend.
So many good songs Billie the Joel is a beyond talented .
"An Innocent Man" is one that often gets overlooked.
So powerful.
One of my favorites! ❤
Came to the comments specifically to recommend this song!
I will look this up. Never heard of it, nor have I heard this song Black Pegasus is playing now.
YES!
My mom is 82. This is her favorite song by Billy. She now has Alzheimer’s disease, she is still able to remember a lot but if she starts getting frustrated, I start singing or humming this song. She drops whatever we were talking about and relaxes.
OMG this is so sweet. Music is magic. Thank your sharing. Sending hugs and good thoughts to you and your mom.
Music is so important. My grandmother had dementia with aphasia. She never spoke after a certain point but she could still sing along with her favorite songs. Now my mom has dementia. "JUST THE WAY YOU ARE" NEXT PLEASE ... ANOTHER GREAT HIT !!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT !
As a kid, “Captain Jack” was an anthem.
“A matter of trust” is another favourite of mine.
Another gem!
Did you know Paul Mcartney and Ringo Starr make a cameo in the video for 'Matter of Trust' , neat little fun fact.
@@clumsyslime3369 No, I didn’t! I never saw the video!
Some old favorites!!
Billy Joel - Pressure - Only the good die young - You may be right - Just the way you are
Billy Joel is the greatest!!❤❤
Nope but one of them for sure.
Many times Billy has said he considers himself a writer first, not a singer. So glad he’s incredible at both!
“Honesty”, great one! “Vienna” also a favorite!
You can never go wrong with anything billy joel.......brilliant just brilliant ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
"Downeaster Alexa" and "Scenes from an italian restaurant" will always be my favourites.
The former because it inadvertently triggers my Amazon devices. (but actually Alexa is his daughter's name)
Yea, it might be his best!
"New york state of mind" live is just incredible and "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" is my fav

I didn't know this. Thank you for the information
This is a very inspiring uplifting song. The blind boys of Alabama add beautiful backing vocals
Only the good die young please. ❤
👍🏽
Yea that's my favorite of his too.
Absolutely!
You are right he has a range! And the great thing is, is that he is very humble. A great living legacy to this world.
You have to listen to An Innocent Man… as others have said, it is often overlooked. It’s my favorite from Billy. I have no doubt you’ll love it!
Possibly, potentially, definitely the best singer songwriter… prove me wrong! 😊
I had front row seats when I saw him in concert
Billy Joel just the way you are! One of his best
Billy Joel.............Brilliant! 'Nough said.

He recently came out of retirement with a song called "Turn The Lights Back On." It's incredible!
Simply one of the best. Luckily my wife and I saw him in concert at the Ohio State stadium. He was with Elton John. Amazing. Mr. Joel has dozens of great hits.
Billy Joel and Elton John came to my town as well. Powerhouse of a concert! You could really could see and hear their incredible talent.
Billy Joel is a master lyricist and this song just redefines how much a legend he is
Christy Brinkley was his wife, and was actually one of the first “Supermodels”. MY FAVORITE BILLY JOEL SONG!
At the last fade-out, there is a reference to the song "Gloria". The Manhattan Transfer did a great cover.
🇬🇧
It doesn't get much better than this. ❤🎼🎶👌
Billy Joel's "Leningrad" is powerful, worth a watch
Billy Koel is amazing. He's multi-talented; his songs are all so different from each other; his lyrics are deep; he's a master musician; a great singer; what's not to like??? I think he's an absolute treasure.
One of his more underrated songs. Such a fun one
THANK YOU ! Not nearly enough reactions to this artist. THE STRANGER is my next favourite that you may not have heard and should review.
Billy comes from the town over from me. He writes all his own stuff. Love his music.
More Billy Joel! All the Billy Joel! He basically does any and all genres, doo-wop, rick n roll, r and b. I highly recommend Big Man on Mulberry Street. It isn't on of his hits but it's one of my favorites.

Billy Joel -“ALL ABOUT SOUL” & “MY BABY GRAND” great duet w/RAY CHARLES. 👍🥂
This was an instant classic.
My favorite Billy Joel song!
Billy Joel is one of those generational talents. What can he not do.
Is it fair that one man should have so much talent 🤷, amazing artist. You've got to check out All About Soul, it's superb.
My favorite song and video by him
The Stranger and Until the Night...two of my favorites and two of his best, IMO.
Billy Joel "Lullaby" is beautiful. ❤
Billy love this album. Mass fan hugs!😊
Excellent tune.

Fun fact: Billy Joel said that this song came to him while he was taking a shower.

You'll want to listen to this several times. I loved this video to this song. The song is just a great ,satisfying feel. Another great story.
Grande som mesmo lenda .
Hey P. Billy played this at the 1984 Grammy's in honor of Frank Sinatra. You ought to check that one out. I lol so hard that I had tears in my eyes.

Beautiful video too. Blind faith.
Great song 🎵 😊
Such a great song!
