Thank you so much Kelly ! Going for a Corneal transplant in the next couple months and feeling a lot better about it since watching your series. In many ways I am really excited actually ! Hope all is well with you.

I'm curious how your transplant is holding up, and whether the crosslinking was worth it.

My eyes were really bad but I could still see a little. I was on the nhs waiting list during 2019 but they never called me in. I rang up for confirmation and was told to wait. Then from February of 2020 my eyes were worse and legit cannot see anything. Double vision, transparent text, blur, floaters etc. Went to a pro opticians and he told me I have keratoconus and my left eye is damaged more and little scarred. Now I have an appointment booked for 22 February 2021 and then I’d be told whether or not a surgery is needed. I’m actually nervous because hearing you tell us about your experience made me get anxious, but now seeing how you went through it at my age (23 now) I’m feeling positive with my check up regarding which surgery is required

Hi Kelly, I’m not sure if you will see this or not. Regardless, I wanted to thank you for your videos! I also have keratoconus. I don’t know anyone else with the condition. I have had cornea cross linking to both of my eyes done. The experience of my vision getting so poor so quickly/the experience of the surgery has been pretty hard for me. Thank you for sharing your experiences and making me feel less alone.

Kelly McEwen thank you so much! My vision is still poor right now but it is stable since the cross linking and I’m very grateful for that. How are your eyes doing?

I'm doing well, thank you :). I know it can be difficult with KC to find others who also have it and understand the complexity of the condition, which is a big part of me making these videos. Thank you so much, I'm glad you are finding them helpful.

Thank you so much for these videos, I am 4 days past the conea transplant,, I am from Yemen, I travelled all the way to India to do the surgery. Your first video made me worried because, u said u could see with it... But I am now 4 days, I can't see with it that clear, still more blurry than it was before the surgery...
Also I am kinda disappointed that you still need to wear glasses after the surgery...
I was hoping that the surgery would be my magic window to the normal world... I have always wanted to drive a motorbike with no glasses and no hamlet also,, I just had a dream to drive as fast as I can as the air splashes my face and hair fly,
I have always hated how this disease made me doubt all my choices,,,
    Which t-shirt you like son?,
Both dady, which one you think will look better on me...
I actually didn't see both of them
Math Teacher: can you solve what is written on the board...
Me: I am not a fan of math... Teacher then beats me up...
I said that because I didn't want to admit that I can't see... I said that because I didn't want my classmates to call me blind...
While in classes like biology and history and national studies I was always first class... As long as it has nothing with reading from the board I was among the best in class

Hi Kelly. Thanks for all the videos ! i am legally blind on my right eye also and cant see anything even with glasses ,With your transplant can you see alot better with glasses on that eye ? distance wise ??? .Also Kelly have you tried ZEISS DRIVESAFE LENSES ? or Crizal Sapphire 360 UV coating on your lenses ? they might fix your issue with the glare you have while driving

I know you said you still see blurry in your left eye , but is your left eye (cross linked eye) better, worse, or is vision exactly the same as before the procedure without glasses/contacts ?

Thanks for answering :) i see you always wearing glasses can you see better now with the glasses coz with me my opticians say there isn't any bigger prescription for me and even tho I've got the biggest priscribion my eyesight is same as without glasses (not had the op yet)

    • @kellymcewen2823
      @kellymcewen2823  6 ปีที่แล้ว

yes i definitely see better with my glasses after the transplant than i was before the procedure. Contacts still correct my vision more but I am able to get decent vision with my glasses now.

Will you have another Q&A? I like to hear questions from others who also have KC. if you aren't can you answer these please.
    Would you recommend the transplant?
How much did it hurt out of 10? 10 being feeling like death
Does it hurt when you itch your eyes? even a small wipe or rub
Have you ever accidentally poked your eye?
    Good luck with everything :)

hey been following your videos since the day i found that i have this disease and this is definitely effecting my daily life but not at a certain degree cause its not progressing too quickly as my doctors say . but i cant make a decision on if i should get transplant or not because i have low eyesight from like about 9 years now but from two year i have kerataconus and it hasnt been progressed too much in these two years its like i still see similar as i could a year ago plus i dont have any head aches or anything now i used to have head aches when i first got to know that i have kerataconus i got my licesne with kerataconus but the main issue is i have job on computer my doctors advised to leave the job because they think i can stop the progression if i stop using computer as much as i have to plus money is also a concern may i know how much did it cost you to get the transplant done?
plus i want to improve or keep my vision where it is .
your answer would help me a lot.

      Hello Jhally,
to answer your question I found the transplant to be highly beneficial for me, however I was unable to drive which severely impacted my daily life. It depends on the degree to which KC is a hindrance for you and whether or not your condition qualifies for other treatment options. Perhaps another treatment option may be a better fit, usually the transplant is reserved for when the disease has progressed a fair amount. I personally don't know how much my procedure cost unfortunately, though I do know insurance covered some of it. I hope this helps some!
