JEFF was devastating at Ronnie Scott's. His playing was on fire. Everyone was there and he did not disappoint. He was just locked in a groove all night. He always plays so fantastic!!
I love the Ronnie Scott's show, but this is still my favourite- just wish it was remastered (video-wise) and available on blu-ray...

We’ll, he and Beck were good friends and was on the most recent tour with him but, yeah, Depp is an actor and has all the rock “moves” and attire, he knows the requisite chords and at best is a backup rhythm player, he can’t solo 🤣🤣🤣

Both days of tribute were very respectful to the great Jeff Beck. Lots of guitars, music, singing, dancing, laughing and love............ all you need. 💟

@Kathleen Fede exactly - also half the musicians had just got off a plane. They made a 7 hours, long-haul flight to London, just to pay their respects to Jeff.

This just shows how in a class of his own Jeff Beck was. At 78 he was still pushing the boundaries, not everyone can keep on improving, some just end up as a shadow of their former selves. Sad, sad day.

He’s outta key but it’s actually not bad execution, it’s well timed and tasteful sounds like he might have chosen the wrong scale to play in, or better yet just the wrong note selection.

How Kirk doesnt hear when hes off pitch and playing in the wrong key is one of lifes great mysteries.
He is tone deaf, so he just starts wanking in some familiar pentatonic scale that he's over used for the last 30 years. How he ended up at this event will be one of life's great mysteries.

He's trying to haul the notes into key for the first couple of bars, when he's still down at the cowboy end, but then totally gives up once he travels up to the dusty end. The truly mystifying thing is he just carries on regardless. No attempt to get things back on track. To think that Greeny is in the hands of this clown.
I must say that I hate these sorts of tribute shows. Too many guitars on stage together, all trying to blow each other away. The guy they are there to honour is usually forgotten.
Barring a few, Jeff Beck on his worst day buries this clownfest assembled to honor him.@@Bogallan

Something about that really bothered me. He’s not exactly a novice and yet started and STAYED in the wrong key for the entire solo. Dude owns a ranch from money he has earned playing guitar. He should at least be able to identify a key.

Doesn't matter! Kirk likes to play in a different key. Check out his solos in The Shortest Straw and One for example. It sounds fine, and the solos I mentioned sound fine.
Kirk plays G minor pentatonic...over G major.....hilarious! Ron plays H drunkolian! Depp plays open string slaps in E minor ( the way the guitar is tuned ). Billy may have actually played in the correct scale!

What's everyone bitching about ? Kirk's solo was just fine being improvised with no rehearsal and figuring out who's next at lead it was just okay. Not the end of the world geez lol
Dear theoreticians, take your earplugs out and open your mind. Of course, you won't admit it, but you only hear what you want to hear. Improvisation is not about blind adherence to keys.. I'm not saying that all solos are perfectly adequate, but...

Looks like 'Greeny' has been re-finished. It doesn't look as road worn as when Peter Green owned it.

Lots of Metallica or Kirk Hammett haters. I only found this video because of what I had heard about the criticism regarding Kirk's playing and I wanted to see it for myself. It was entertaining and I'm sure all the people on stage were having a great time. It appears to me that most of the criticism as is usually the case comes from people at home, who probably don't play on a stage regularly. Not that they don't have a right to an opinion but have you ever heard, if you have nothing good to say then keep your mouth shut. Then you have that he was in the wrong key, how many people can really identify that. I sense more disdain for Kirk or what he's a part of (Metallica) than I do anything else. Just my opinion.
No, it's that alot of us are guitar players and if we did that we would be clowned hard a f. The out of time, wrong key, no feel and may I add " Tacky" attempt is not a dis... it's my observation of the obvious. Kinda like Marylin Manson singing with a choir or orchestra. Except with wrong notes 🤭
I’m definitely not a Kirk hater - he played some of the best metal solos of the 1980s……..but he’s playing out of key in this song and I’ve no idea how he manages to do that!

I was fortunate enough to have been at the show the night this was recorded, and yeah, perhaps not a top notch performance but really taken out of context. The emotion in the crowd and on stage in tribute to Jeff Beck was unmistakable. If anyone went with the expectation of having 10 guitarists sound awesome at the same time would have left disappointed. If you went in celebration of talent on the stage giving tribute to a guitar playing buddy, then no words can express the joy of seeing a group of men and women jamming for 3 hours at RAH. Well worth the trip and a real lasting memory.

Kirk Hammett trying to inject himself into the rock and blues world is laughable. He just doesn't have the feel for that type of music. I respect him for his accomplishments and I understand why he would want that guitar, but it belongs in the hands of someone who plays with feel. I respect the shit out of Ronnie Wood, but he is showing his age in his playing.

Wow... pretty incredible for this to be THAT sloppy joe, I mean this is a heap on fire.
I’m one of the biggest JB fans. He was much more than a rock guitarist.. this entire tribute is painful to watch because of the low production value across the board. The entire music community should have contributed to make the best state of the art show for a contributor such as Beck, playing his material in all sorts of genres.
FULLY in agreement, Scott. I'm not unappreciative of the efforts here, and kudos to Eric Clapton, Ronnie Wood et alia for making it happen, but, yeah, this tribute could have also showcased JB's fusion and experimental side (granted, DT's rendition of Goodbye Pork Pie Hat was great and John McLaughlin showed up). But imagine if Jan Hammer or Steve Lukather was there, imagine some other perhaps younger virtuoso musicians playing Led Boots or Star Cycle. I understand that not everyone could show up due to scheduling or whatnot, but I'm just saying I would have liked a more wholistic representation, say, of the catalogue, more representation of the progressive Jeff Beck and not a narrow focus on only the blues or straightforward rock side of things. Moreover, some of the renditions of JB/Yardbird classics in this tribute left something to be desired, alas.
I’ve been watching a few different videos from these concerts and all around it seems like a big let down. Weak guitar playing, weak voices. Why didn’t they rehearse it do justice? This ain’t no concert for George quality here, that’s for sure. Even after he’s gone Jeff isn’t getting recognition or due he’s deserved.

Billy and Ronnie were the only two to do justice on the solo section. If that's Depp, of course his amp is turned off and the only other person to play Greeny with conviction and balls was Mr. Gary Moore. Trainwreck was more like it!
