    I worked as a stage hand for the Eagles at Safeco Field in Seattle 3 or 4 years ago. When Joe was being driven on a golf cart in the underground tunnel from the visitor clubhouse all the way around to the center field stage entrance he high-fived practically every person they drove past. He kept yelling “thanks for all your hard work!!!”. People were on cloud nine by the time he was done. I’ll never forget it.

    • @marktulk7915
      @marktulk7915 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Shane Edmonds Yeah, Shane, The reason is, that each string goes over both the bridge and nut - which are not "frictionless"... "Residual" tension can be held in the short length, up near the tuners (where Joe pointed), and as soon as the player puts force on the string (as Joe did), that "released" tension throws string out of tune... Thanks, Joe, for this unselfish, free tutorial...

I chatted to David Byrne on a break, I could see he was having tuning problems and I showed him how and why you should always tune UP to the correct pitch, strings will always loosen, NEVER tighten, he got it right away, why not? he was and still is a genius.

      I believe there are a number of famous guitarists who got their '59 Les Pauls from Joe, Jimmy Page being foremost among them. Of course he has his own '60, so I guess his history shows a deep knowledge of what makes a guitar good, and having an exceptional ear for tone. He may not be Dan Erlewine, but Joe does know his tools. EVH is like that, not just a player, but a guitar geek, through and through.

    • @travissmith9451
      @travissmith9451 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flugplatz21 absolutely right about Joe and Jimmy and the Les Paul. One major difference between Joe and Eddie though - Joe's all about emotion and feel, not guitar gymnastics like Ed. Joe's in the same league as Billy Gibbons and Ry Cooder when it comes to their love of their instruments and the eternal quest for that elusive perfect tone.

    • @flugplatz21
      @flugplatz21 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@travissmith9451 As a drummer, I prefer strong rhythm guitar players, like Malcolm Young, Phelps "Catfish" Collins, or Izzy Stradlin. Eddie is and excellent rhythm player and VH was my first "favorite" band, so there is some built in loyalty there, even though I consider EVH far from the "best". I like emotive lead players who use unique note selection. Page, Hendrix, Slash, Joe Walsh, Duane Allman, Jack White...Basically NOT Joe Bonamassa or post '68 Clapton. I'm not "right" about any of this, it's just how I feel, what I enjoy and a chance to talk guitar. Have a good one!

Also, it probably wasn't far out, he actually probably knocked it out before the vid but that doesn't matter. what matters is this if done a few times can get a guitar "in" in just a few mins. after years I can tune a guitar by ear and am always near spot on. For Sure Joe can almost look at a guitar and it will go inti tune. that just comes from many years and thousands of shows. it seems like every other show something is out. be it a guitar, amp, PA, snake etc. The stuff is great for a week at home or in studio but go live.... It's just crazy. If you know these bits he showed you can save a guitar if you don't have a tech. early on I'd have to pkay gigs on my back up and hope it lasted because suddenly my primary was buzzing, had a switch issue, wouldn't go in... While the Eagles were on tour, Joe Walsh was playing with James Gang and they would hide him in a road case, roll it out on stage, he would pop out for the audience, and would play Rocky Mountain Way with them. When the eagles decided to go more rock and roll as opposed to their original country sound, Bernie Leadon quit and Joe Walsh was hired in as the new guitarist in 1975, 4 years after the eagles had become a band
