Jimmy is retired from his biggest gig, but once again, he becomes the lion. He knows he could steal the show, but he's being respectful as a guest artist. Such confidence, energy, and effortless mastery. You can see him holding back so hard. He's the monster of rock guitar, and he's letting these "youngsters" have their piece of the pie. He's had it all and done it all, and he's still a nice guy. Again, it is the legend.
In the video that shows them preparing for this gig, Tyler and Perry are all over the place.... disorganized, don't have a set list and just a mess. Page comes in and asks for the list. They continue to babble on with no direction. He finally says to them "just give me the que." And leaves as if to say...give me the que, I'm that f'ing good. It's hysterical to watch.

Throughout the 50+ years of Aerosmith Tyler and Perry have always been center stage and in the spotlight. In this clip they share that spotlight with Jimmy Page, but man is Brad Whitford underrated. Give that man his flowers.
Back in the day, Perry played a badass humbucker guitar--Whitford played that familiar Telecaster (not here, though). Double-lead, rythym-lead: Wicked smart setups for then....
I was 15 in 1979. I was so lucky to have friends and my older brother turn me on to great music. Most were first time peeling the plastic off of albums with crazy anticipation. First time I have seen this video. So cool. I grew up with Aerosmith before they made it big time. Jamming with jimmi page is the ultimate. What a combination of jimmi, joe, Brad. Very cool jam. Wish I was there.
Perry's Rock n Roll fantasy came true long before this. It was the night in the mid 70's when Jeff Beck came on stage and jammed with Joe as a birthday present.
@@johnbgriffinjr116 I love Joe Perry, but I have always felt that Brad Whitford plays a better lead guitar in several Aerosmith tunes in contrast to Perry. Just my opinion.

Holy, I can't tell you how many times I have watched this. It just keeps getting better. This epitomizes my taste in music. Jimmy is the man. Oh, yeah, and Ozzy but he's not here.
Jimmy Page's style of guitar isn't something that he plays when there are so many guitarists present, so his best work doesn't come across, but the fact that he's there means something sublime.

This is great. Steven, Joe and Jimmy planned it out backstage and they played it as planned. Joe, Brad and Jimmy got equal solo time and all sounded great! What’s the problem?
Aerosmith were on tour so I won't pass judgment but Jimmy Page's second solo was great. He really nailed it. It was a nice tribute from Tyler, Perry and Withford to Jimmy.
I don't think so much in terms of technique, because technique is not so much what makes a great solo or song, but I feel like Brad showed that he has a better "musical vocabulary" than the other two, at least in this particular song he has.
