I just wanted to thank you for the hard work you put in to these detailed unbiased reviews. While you must obviously be passionate about the gear, it's clear that you aren't blinded by brand loyalty. It's refreshing to see someone crunching and displaying real data versus regurgitating clichés and anecdotal information. Bang up job!
Thanks man! I admit I have more Shimanos than anything but Im willing to try any brand that has a reel that catches my eye and give them a shot! Ill be uploading an on the water brief assessment in the next couple of days on the Curado K.
Well then even more credit to you as I couldn't tell you had more Shimanos than any other brand by watching your reviews. I recently sold off a variety of casting reels and replaced them all with Curado I 200s & 70s. To me, performing the maintenance isn't enjoyable-it's just a necessary evil required to keep the gear running as it was designed to. Having one brand and model of reel streamlined the process and has allowed me to spend more time doing what I enjoy, things like fishing!
That said, my eye is starting to wonder!

Mine finally arrived last week and I fished it today for a bit. The Micro Module Gears are legit, the reel is smooth beyond words. Basically, the reel doesn't even feel like is engaged when you are cranking it. Casting wise, not quite as impressed as expected based on your test results. I didn't measure it per se, but the distance feels about the same as the Tatulas. May be I had too much braking on, I am not sure. I kept it at 2 with the internal brakes as stock and the external dial set at 1. Oh by the way, thanks for the tip on loosening the external dial as it was impossible to turn out of the box. I didn't bother to fiddle with changing the settings when I was fishing it as it was very windy. I did think about it, but I just felt it was too much hassle as compared to the Daiwa Mag-Z, so I just left it. The other thing is I feel like the casting distance could have been partially affected by the hole of the levelwind being absolutely tiny especially when compared to the TWS of the Daiwas. The body of the reel is not that small, it doesn't palm as nice as the Tatula CT or SV TW, but is no deal breaker. I haven't made up my mind on the reel yet, but what I can say is the smoothness is for real and cannot be argued.
Smooth retrieve and super smooth drag. Love my Curado K
I have a curado 200 from 2011 or 12 and it still works perfect. And it's small. If it's smaller than it And is as reliable as mine... I'll be buying one..
are you talking about the Curado 200G? if so then its smaller than that reel for sure

In an ICast video a shimano rep said they made the body into a 150 size while keeping a 200 size spool. So how is it that the new K is heavier than the I? MM gearing and longer handle?
Also how do you loosen the svs dial?
damn, I just bought a Curado 200I HG today because I thought this reel wasn't coming out till Sept. Paired mine with a 13 fishing Omen Black Gen 2. The K would have looked so much better on my new rod. Hope my Curado I works out for now though.
So, the stock is in already?! They must be satisfying the pre-orders first. I also checked with Melton too and is also pre-order at this point.
How does the svs infinity stack up to Abu's ivcb-6 in the revo stx as far as quality and ease of use? How smooth is it relative to the tatula 100?

If you set the drag, and brakes u won’t ever birdsnest, it casts great and handles fish amazing it’s an overall 9/10 for me and would recommend for beginners
I just got this reel earlier and the spool moves side to side just a little do you have this problem are do you think this would be a problem
1.) Do you have a all collected data from your tests in a chart ?
Spool weight (and line-mass) seem to be the most important factor for throwing light baits.
2. It seem to be sometimes to be good idea to buy a custom spool and some times the package already is optimized, but reels for very light seem to be pretty expensive.
I dont have a chart but you can see some of the weights are recorded on the videos. Im going to be doing a finesse video soon for regular baitcasters
U need to put this reel up against the concept z I really wanna see the performance of these 2

Since you have both curado-i & curado-k, would you confirm spoon on both reel are interchangeable? it's big factor for me to before I make decision to buy it or not. hope to get answer from you soon, thanks for this video :)
spools are not interchangeable because the brake mechanism is different

How would you compare the smoothness of the Curado K's Micro Module Gears to some of your higher end reels? Is it just as smooth or if not how far off do you reckon?
hard to say until I throw some lures and have some load on it. in hand just turning the handle Ill say its up there in smoothness.. one thing that helps it is the handle and knob tolerance, the knobs have no play or wiggle in them at all.
So, basically you are saying just hand feel alone is pretty much as smooth as the likes of a Conquest and Antares. Holy smokes, that is impressive for a reel at this price point. Damn, I wish I had pre-ordered it, now I probably will have to wait till September. I could get it from Tackle Direct, but shipping from the East Coast is quite a bit more expensive.
Bro I need your expertise I have the antares 12 hg it has a dial under it just like the curado k the dial is from 1 to 6 what exactly is this setting I cant find nothing bro an you are only person i know that knows what it is
Very thorough unbox video. Surprised the Curado K has went down to a 70 size and still calling it a 200. Personally I like the reels a little larger and the 70 size is too small. I cant see it being smoother than a higher priced Japan made Met MGL or even Chronarch MGL. Looking forward to your field tests for distance casting.
Keep in mind the number designation is for spool cap not physical size of the reel
as I was typing I was thinking its for spool capacity. The color has grown on me but just not a fan of tiny tiny reels especially for cranking reel. Your field test will factor in for me. I guess any drawback are weight and average drag rating. Even the newer Lews BB1 pro has a 20 lb drag and refined breaking. Also the Concept Z at 22 lbs.
Im thinking up a way to test drag numbers.
thats awesome..! For bass fishing me personally I would take a less rated drag that was smoother and didn't slip and faster to adjust over one that's rated to tow a truck.
I have a problem with my curado k the drive shaft has play in and out like it’s loose or something is this normal if not how can I fix it

Quite sad they threw away the power grips for the new curado k. When mine arrive I'll swap them out.
they are the same size as the old power grips, but slightly different in shape because of the end cap and feel better
I wish they kept the thumb bar like the current models. I like how they don't go across the whole spool.
That was a Shimano trait for sure, the new thumbar feels good though, very ergonomic
I'll have to try it out, I love the bar being 3/4 of the spool width

Hey I just got one recently and I have the spook tension all the way up to adjust but the lure just falls straight down. Any idea what’s going on.
it may be missing the pad underneath the spool tension

Have you noticed a difference in the curado 70 and scorpion 70? The scorpion may feel a little better because of the JDM bearings but I'm curious. I have the curado 200i and scorpion 200 and the only difference is the retrieve feels a little smoother

Honestly for the way I fish the Scorpion. I dont use thick line or really heavy baits. The Scorpion is just special, once you hear it cast its over lol.. oh and its 270 shipped at digitaka
Does the cast control have to be loosened to close the side plate? I read people saying this. Is this true??
no thats bullshit, but if you cant close the sideplate after you open it that is one of the things to look for
THE REEL TEST I think if the brake case isn't installed all the way to sit flush against the sideplate then it makes it hard to close (makes you have to loosen the tension knob )
How does the K palm in comparison to the e7? It looks larger than the e& in the Video?
I havent palmed an E series for years as Ive sold mine awhile back. The K body is tiny but the gearbox is huge giving it the appearance of being bigger. But the palming side is very small and comfortable.

All in due time bro lol.. its going up against the 200i this weekend, and maybe even the Tatula CT Type R. I only have 2 days to test and film a week, and on those 2 days Im only out as long as I can bear the heat. Come fall and winter I can test all day when it gets cooler.
Dont blame you there its hot here too. Really looking forward to this video to see how the hype is true. Whether this will be a good cranking or flipping reel with the gearing. I guess we know what the others do already looking at your data in your videos.
I was out throwing a small squarebill with it yesterday, the cranking was way too easy even with that small cb.
good to know, i know on TT review the Cur 70 that was a downfall for them in the area for cranking power. This Curado K almost seems to be 70 on steroids.
I wouldnt say the 70 is down on cranking power, more like down on cranking leverage because of the small knobs and thin handle. The K has a beefy handle and knobs. Definitely made for tournament fishing.
I buy this Curado k what is better to use on bc reel braid or mono line?
personal preference. I rarely use braid, I use mostly Flourocarbon

I can see that, but my recording area for now is limited to that space and the lighting is horrible, I actually adjust the brightness and white balance in editing. If I didnt brighten it up it would really bad lol

Maybe a dumb question, but how come the title of this video refers to the Curado 200K but the box says Curado 200HG? I have a 200HG and am planning on getting a Curado 200K
Steve Smith the 200hg tag is the reel model variant i.e. a 7:3:1 ratio reel but the overall model is the 200k
You can clearly see that it is indeed the new 200k despite the box only saying 200HG and not 200K HG, just like how the Curado I didn't have an I on the box iirc. Also the Curado I boxes were green and the new K is black from what I can tell in the video.

thats all preference, Ive had 100mm handles and ended up not liking them. 85-90mm is perfect for me. I had the K out today for about 30 min on the water, very impressive..
I think it varies from reel to reel really and of course personal preference. I have a Tailwalk Elan Wide Power Plus and it comes with a 100mm handle and it feels great, but bear in mind it is a large reel. I also have a Shimano Ocea Calcutta 201 and it comes with a 90mm handle, while it feels pretty good, I suspect it might feel even better with a longer handle. In truth for a 200 size reel, it is probably something in between 90mm-100mm, 95mm could well be a sweet spot. But, overall it will depend on the reel. A 95mm handle might feel quite differently on a 200 size round reel Vs low profile. But, I also have a Tatula Type-R and for me I think the 90mm handle on that reel is a bit short. I actually missed the boat on the exclusive Tackle Warehouse Tactical Reel which was essentially a matt black Tatula Type-R with a 100mm handle. Damn! So, in that sense I already know 90mm is a tad short for me. The only question is whether I should go half way to 95mm or all the way to 100mm.

H2o Fishing That depends on how much you like the Chronarch Ci4+. Before the Curado K came out, places like Tackle Warehouse put the Chronarch Ci4+ on discount to clear stock. The question is will you be OK with the idea the Curado K is smoother than the Chronarch Ci4+ due to the Micro Module Gears? Some may say no and some may say yes. For example, you may decide you would rather go for the slicker looks and the lighter weight of the Chronarch Ci4+. For me, I would pick the Curado K because smoothness speaks volumes about tactility and thus quality or at least perceived quality. The first time I ever tried Micro Module Gears was on the Conquest and it blew me away. THE REEL TEST has already said in the hand, the new Curado K is just as smooth as some of his higher end reels with Micro Module Gears, then to me is a no-brainer, Curado K.
