- SO I FINALLY GET MY HANDS ON THE CURADO DC AND GIVE YOU GUYS A FIRST IMPRESSION OF THIS MUCH HYPED REEL!

I have the Shimano Curado DC and I love it. I kicked mine off the boat into the lake the first day I took it out and only hung on by the tip of the pole. I picked it up out of the water and casted and it did just as well as before it got wet.

The hole is there for spooling , you stick the line in the hole to bring it around after quarter turn so you don’t have to try fishing it around the spool and bring it back to the top for tying.

Because it doesn’t really matter where it is , you’ll tie the knot in the middle anyway....like an mgl spool , you can use which ever hole you want..in this case it’s not an mgl spool so shimano provided you with one hole to achieve the same , it’s probably why it’s not in the manual since it’s common knowledge among baitcasting fisherman .
i just use tape. And neither the Metanium DC or the Scorpion DC have a hole drilled into their spools

They we’re earlier years models and of course as time goes by engineers noted to improve on their products even as silly as a little hole on a spool but still has a function.
I curl 70 lb dumbbells for reps, def not worried about the reel weight. I need more of that DC whine in my life!
I wish the k had the the same cast control switch. Ease of action and audible click between settings. Very nice.
I need to actually measure, but when I picked both the 150 and XG. The Xg handle looked a bit longer when I put them side by side
Robert Ramirez the xg model does come with a longer handle. I think it's a 105mm vs the lower gear ratios which have a 90 mm handle. I own the different gear ratios and the xg definitely has a longer handle, which I love and prefer to the standard 90 mm.
My theory is that the hole was placed there to help the DC system controlling spool rpm. Every time the hole pass over a magnet, it generates a small disturbance that can be detected. And it was placed somehow away from the the coils so that it does not affect its performance.

I agree with you, I wish they would have gone with a different color other than green. Black would have made it look slicker and it would look better on a wider variety of rods.

THE REEL TEST Do you think Shimano will come up with new Metanium MGL in 2019? It seems to be they update it every three years. (Just thinking should I wait 6-7 months for better 2019 model or buy current 2016 JDM model).
possible.. but Shimano have become very unpredictable in the past few years with their model changes. The regular Antares needs a new model really bad. And Ill bet a Conquest DC is coming. And probably an updated Curado 70

My question is how would you clean one of these would it be different from normal reel or not? Im wondering before i buy
as far as the gears etc, its like any other reel. The DC unit is pretty much maintenance free. Self recharges on every cast. Thats the beauty of DC. This level of tech and you just go fish it like a normal reel. nothing special needed
is the Thumbar still the same as the K's? I like my K's but the thumbar feels cheap and squeaks.. My cheaper Casitas has a better thumbar

considering its the exact same reel except the brakes and color its not surprising. I like the old style thumbar better too but Ive had no problems with the new style

Adam Butler the dc unit is replacing centrifugal/magnetic breaks absolutely nothing to do with drag
I understand that tyrone but my question is referring to spinning reels which dont have brakes. I want a chip to control drag on a spinning reel.
if any company has the engineering to do that its Shimano. I could see a benefit to that.. tighten and loosen the drag automatically according to pressure

I just recently bought one but why can’t it cast far and is still bird nesting a lot like the chips not there it’s almost quite I can’t get it to cast past 30 ft

The question I'm more interested in is how the Curado DC compares to the Metanium DC. Can you please say some words on that in your next video?
You kids need to realize, you are talking about a $250 reel vs a $420 and $500 reel. Do you honestly think Shimano is going to make one of their cheaper reels better than their more expensive reels? Or any company for that matter. I havent had a chance to cast the Curado DC yet because of family commitments all weekend but I dont expect it to be better than either Metaniums once I do get to cast it. Id be happy for it to get close though.
I understand that. I asked because the Curado DC has a new DC system which might have been improved over the DC system of the Metanium/Scorpion DC. I want to get myself a DC reel and am not sure if i should try to get my hand on a used Metanium DC or wait for the Curado DC.

All the modes on the Curado DC are pretty much "auto". The scorpion has manual adjustments that let you get more or less braking

My question is would it make more sense to pay another $10 and get the Scorpion DC from Japan instead which has the more advanced I-DC5 system as opposed to the I-DC4 chip in the Curado DC? May be that is the reason why the Curado DC is priced cheaper in Asia at around US$183 a pop. Having said that, I don't really know how much better the I-DC5 is on the water which I guess is where your next comparison test comes in handy. However, if I were to guess, I doubt the difference in performance would be night and day. So, it could be a Curado DC with the Asian price tag is already good enough for me.

the weight is about the same for both reels but the Scorpion has more adjustments and a lighter spool. I like the color of the Scorpion better personally. I havent casted the Curado DC yet but I will this weekend to see how the casting is.

most likely, that hole on the spool is where you stick the tagend of your line and start to spool it, vs tying around the spool like most people do. i live in japan, and have seen a lot of anglers here use that technique to spool their reels.they dont like to use tape on the spool for fear of getting it even slightly unbalanced. seems a little anal to me, but whatever floats your boat. with that said, i have also seen a lot of anglers here launch their overpriced DRT/PHATLAB lures along with all of their line when they become complacent on a cast. i dont know why they prefer that method of spooling over a standard knot, but have seen it quite a few times here.

no clue. maybe to keep the balance correct with the heavier magnets on the left side of the spool that sits inside the micro computer. maybe the right side is heavier with the longer shaft than the magnet side is. i really dont know. i have seen them placed all over different spots on reels over here. thats the best reason i can come up with. my scorpion DC is a smooth solid spool so who knows. i gave up trying to get inside the mind of the engineers over here. it will drive you insane trying to figure out why they do what they do.

It does show that is has the Shimano Anti Rust bearings but I would still rinse off the reel after a saltwater session
