Surly Corner Bar / Liyang Conversion

- After getting a Super Nice on Gmbn for the Liyang restoration, I wanted to do something a little different to the build by adding some Surly Corner Bars.
I'm 100% a mountain biker so drop bars have never been on my radar... Until now.
I was looking for the bars for many many months, then my buddy J came through with a pair.
I've not fitted road bar tape for over 20yrs - since I worked in a bike shop in the Uk.
I have made a couple of small errors on the wrapping / cutting...but this is why I bought a cheap $30 tape from 99 Bikes to get some experience. If I get on well with the bars I'll upgrade the tape... this is just an experiment.
I think I might put a steeper and slightly longer stem on the build as I have a bit of a glass back at the moment lol.
I also installed the NOS Azonic Shorty Stem / Profile Designs quill converter / Cog Hog / Fizik saddle & Maxxis DTH Tires
Anyway hope you enjoy the video... Don't forget to Like and Subscribe.
Cheers

Vaya currada!! Ha valido la pena...
Thank you 🤙🏼
The intro 🤌
Such a beautiful bike! Can you restore my Alpinestars so I don’t have to polish it? 😆
That’s gotta be one of the cleanest Corner bar setups I’ve seen 🤯🤩 so cool seeing the pro photos at the end 😎
Well done!
Cheers Toasty - Much love bro.
I love seeing 80's and 90's Era mtb's getting new life as gravel bikes. I have plans to build out my '98 Barracuda XC URT frame into a softtail gravel bike, but I can't decide between the Corner bar or Moloko.
Both bar set ups would be cool, just depends if you are doing a fair bit of bike packing...if so I'd go Moloko. But if you love the aero tuck and unique look, go for the corner bars.
Super . Beautiful classic
Thanks for the kind words. 🙌🏼
Wow what a machine
Much appreciated Legend
Very nice, but why so many spacer under the stem?
Coz I’m old and want the front end higher for my back lol.
What fork is that one? Looks amazing

Corner Bar has brilliant ergonomics, but I can't tolerate its weight. Got myself an aluminium replica which is half the weight and is still overbuilt.
I'm glad that you have found a bar that you like.
