Oh boy! More space for Laura to plant (with Benjamin’s help)! I love how you just tackle projects with power tools, forklifts, whatever you need to use to get the job done.
Yep, big stalker from Sweden! I’ve said it before and I say it again, finding Laura and garden answer here on TH-cam really saved me in a time of grief and made me realize and remember how much I used to love gardening and made me feel hope and gratitude again. And this picked fence? I’m for sure gonna assemble that! Love constructing also and need a fence (not to expensive ) to keep my dogs more safe and staying in my garden - so THANK YOU!
Although I have been watching for a few years, I found great enjoyment and comfort in watching Laura and Aaron when my dear husband went to heaven in 2018, and I don’t think I have missed a single video, even if I am sometimes a day or two late watching. I can attest that their videos truly lift your spirits! Another bonus is that they teach us so many things and they are a great family! Finally, I’m so sorry for your loss.
I love that you re-purposed existing materials instead of buying new. I'm also loving project ideas that are budget-minded, especially with the ridiculously inflated prices of materials and lumber right now. I'm brainstorming how to do this in my garden!
Agree, re-purposing materials is the way to go: great modelling for your audience and young family members. A pity you lost the footage of the construction in situ - I would have been interested in the upright post siting and the attachment of the fencing. I’m not a big fan of time lapse-I don’t think it’s interesting and gives a false impression of the complexity and time it takes to make/complete a project.
“Ta-Da”… lol. I remember when Benjamin said it in a video after planting seeds, I think. I’ve found myself using it when I accomplish something. It always makes me smile.
"I hope you enjoyed this video" !! this was SO enjoyable. and the garden space is the perfect scale and delightful for Benjamin and for Samantha when she's toddling around. Close enough to the house so they can wander out to it. It's a real life fairy garden with the natural color wood. Something many of us could do without a large expense, thank you !!
I love the unpainted pallet wood look. It reminds me of a children’s-garden vegetable garden…or with a miniature farmhouse-style playhouse in it for Samantha Grace.
It's great to see you reusing and tackling wood working projects. My daughter and I do this type of thing occasionally. The neighbors watch us like they are amazed. Last summer we built a paver patio. Hard, hard work, but so rewarding!
Nice! Working for a wholesale greenhouse, I have access to tons of pallets. (We actually give them away for free.) I've been working on a new vegetable garden space that I want to do a similar fence around. This also might work for the entrances to my meadow garden. ... So many ideas! 😃
What an amazing project! ❤️ As a mom and a kindergarten teacher, I appreciate all the love and thought that you're putting into this! Though I'm now retired, when I was working in the classroom, one of my missions was to create a magical environment for my students (and me!). I once took some pallets and created 2 small freestanding picket fence sections to use as a divider in the classroom. I painted them white and attached a handle at the top so that I could simply pick them up like a suitcase to move them around. They added so much charm and whimsy to my classroom!! I can't wait to see this sweet little garden progress. Creating something from (discarded) nothing is an art form, Laura, and you nailed it!!! 💜🦋💚
This is perfect timing! I have a garden I need a fence for but with the cost of lumber it wasn’t going to get done! Thank you for sharing your creative mind! With it left unstained it reminds me of your popsicle fences in the fairy gardens. This is perfect for a life size fairy garden for the kids!
Love it! Ever since my kids were little, I've planted parsley for the caterpillars. The kids loved watching the caterpillars munch & grow. We'd hunt for the chrysalises and wait for the black swallowtails to emerge.
My kids love it too! I just added milkweed this year and am looking at some other plants like the PawPaw that are larval host plants to attract the butterflies my son wants.
I used a pallet to create a small herb garden, it lasted about 7 years. I live in Michigan where in the summer it gets super humid. So I’d say that was pretty good considering the wood from pallets aren’t the greatest. I think since you live in a climate that’s very dry you’d get more years out of your pallet projects. I love your little picket fence I think it’s super cute and you did an awesome job. You should be very proud of your work, it turned out great!! Can’t wait for the plants!
Russel has matured into such a “chill” cat. He used to be such a romper but that was his kitten and then teenage stages. Cudos for your fence job. So adorable. Like the rustic look. Your choices always makes sense. Can’t wait for the plants to mature. Going to be such a delight for Benjamin and Samantha as she toddles.
Yes, I noticed it at 10:41. I had been wondering if she should have worn heavy duty gloves. But, we know Laura, she can't stand gloves. It may have been a wood splinter. Ouch!!
Hey, I know a lot of you guys aren’t a fan of all that old brick, but I really enjoy the look and for now they give the space a sense of grandeur and history. - PS. I’m loving the butterfly garden already. Great job on that amazing pallet fence, Laura! ❤️
I feel the same way about the brick. I think it's so historic looking and adds so much rustic charm. Just imagine how many people have walked through those bricks.😍
It's absolutely charming and will be so pretty when the plants are in! You should buy him a butterfly growing kit with live caterpillars! Our second graders always studied them and observed them in the netting, and then released the butterflies in our school garden. He would definitely be able to handle the basic life cycle of the butterfly at his age and get a kick out of it!
Love this channel I’m soooo late to gardening and the only one in my whole family that cares about flowers. This channel is why I started I stumbled across it a 2 years ago. Keep up the good work
This was such a great idea Laura! I'm so glad you decided to leave the pallet wood natural. It adds a whimsical cottage charm to the space. Can't wait to see the butterfly garden when the plants are in and it's finished! 🌿🌸🌿 🦋 💚
I think the fact that you are recycling pallet wood, is amazing. In the UK upcycling is such a big thing to use things that are sitting around and free. It’s lovely to see you being so “Green” 🤩
😍Oh my, I'm lazily sitting here drinking coffee and Laura is at it again! You always amaze me with you ingenuity and abilities! I should gave known, you are "Laura"🎉 Beautiful fence and wonderful space for the pollinators and Benjamin and Samantha Grace. Have a fun day everyone💕🌱💚
I love seeing a project that isn’t a fantasy project for people to emulate. Don’t get me wrong the cut flower garden and Hartley are exciting to watch because you are living the dream but to feel a part of it this is wonderful!
I think what I appreciate the most about this channel is the way Laura & Aaron still keep their subscribers in mind when doing project videos. I would venture to say the majority of their subscribers are not gardening on this scale and probably don't have the same investment capabilities. As a beginner gardener I appreciate Laura taking the time to show us "the basic gardeners" how to do projects like this on a budget.
Laura, you never cease to amaze me! What a wonderful idea for a kids garden. I’m sure your little ones will have many years of fun and enjoyment in their own little space!
So much fun! Benjamin is going to love it and is going to remember that his mom did that for him and that he was involved in picking flowers, planting and planing....so cute! Love it! You did great momma!😍🤗🤗💜🤗🤗
I love the fact that you re-used the pallets for the fence vs purchasing the wood. There is a special satisfaction that comes from using what you have. It is even more special that you are using the pallets for a butterfly garden for your children. Hard work, creativity and determination is a life lesson we could all use every now and then. Thanks for the reminder and job well done! I can't wait to see the plants go in. Also, the natural wood (vs staining) blends well into the garden as it fits nicely into the purpose of the butterfly garden which is to create an environment that attracts butterflies in a similar fashion to their natural habitat.
I did a garden for my granddaughters and my friend painted a sign with their names on it and it hangs in their garden, your very talented maybe you can do the same then it’s all his it would be cute I think
Great idea..with the incredible high price of lumber these days, the use of pallets makes this project affordable for many more of us! Love your creative ideas.
I've been putting off a kitchen project for several years. Nothing major. Just a rustic looking wainscotting and chair rail structure. I simply could never find the right components to begin this project. Your picket fence pallet video taught me that imperfection is part of the charm of country gardens and incompleteness has its own beauty in a living space. Thanks so much for the inspiration to help me complete this long delayed project. You and your family bring me life and inspiration and so much love. Always, Robert.
I’m so impressed,it looks so good! I think you can build your own wrap around porch! Wood is so expensive, I love how you used the pallets. I love black but it looks so nice unstained and probably cuter for kids area. Can’t wait to see the next video!
I Love This So Much! Such an accessible project for families….you have “romanced the ordinary” to the hilt. I love how a pallet fence is juxtaposed to an epic Hartley. 🥰
Love this project. Also love the brick pavers and sitting area. A swing in the area would be nice for Benjamin to swing and watch the butterflies. Love that you include him in so much of your gardening.
Good Morning Laura and Gardening Friends!!! 🦋 Oh My Goodness, Butterflies are so incredibly meaningful to me. I would Love to build a butterfly garden. 🪴
Judging from the comments, I would say this video appealed to a vast variety of viewers. What I loved is that it doesn't cost a lot of money and uses imagination and creativity. This year I was inspired to spend hundreds of dollars on annuals, something I have never done. Great Job Laura. You go girl and we'll keep watching.
My teenage boys, husband and I just finished putting in a pallet wood walkway inspired by one of your older videos. I told my husband I could just cut the nails with a saws-all but they insisted on prying them all apart; a good job for our teenage boys! I think they thought I was crazy but the whole family loves how it turned out, especially our little girl! We are going to create a garden and will need to fence a 25' x 33' area. With lumber prices so high, this is a great alternative! Thank you for putting out such wonderful content the whole family can enjoy, for sharing your beautiful garden and landscaping with us and for continually inspiring us with new ideas! As a mom new to homeschooling this past year, you've reminded me how much we can learn just by working in our yard/garden.
It turned out so cute! I can just see you and Aaron sitting on the padded bench with Samantha in her stroller and Benjamin and Russell running and jumping after the butterflies!
You go girl. I have a wood shop but my wife would never try to use my tools, let alone take on a project like this. Turned out great and you saved $500 to $1,000 using pallets. The cost of lumber right now is ridiculous. I did a shorter version of this for my peony garden. The picket is only about 2ft tall and sort of an oval shape but it helps keep my peonies from flopping over.
I love how this turned out! I like that your leaving it natural wood to blend in, it's so charming! I just bought my power tools this year and I love having them on hand! Great video
I freaking love how this turned out. I have a 10x10 veggie garden off my shed and you've inspired me to fence it in. So glad you left the wood natural!
I love how this turned out, what a great idea! It definitely has a charming feel with the raw non-uniform wood colours and shapes. I think it’s perfect the way it is!
That’s such a neat idea! I love the way you just jump in and go for it on a project. I can’t wait to see how it looks with plants and how excited Benjamin is going to be when he sees butterflies.
I loved that you built it all yourself and showed the process. It lets us all believe we could do it too no matter our skill level. From forklift to finished fence, fun to watch.
I LOVE ❤️ the quirkiness of the pallet wood and that it’s an up cycling project!!! I would love this in my own yard…gives me some encouragement to try it in my own👏🏻
Kudos to you Laura for not getting any splinters in your hands from those pallets!! I've worked with pallets before making them into herb planters and ended up with 2 in each hand! Love your ideas, you're my #1 Gardener inspiration!
It so sweet to make a garden space for Benjamin just like how you had yours when you were younger. The picket fence looks great. You said it wasn't difficult but for me it would be. I really admire how talented you are♥️
Laura your video timing is perfect it's just what we're needing. I am a Horticultural therapist on Vancouver Island in British Columbia Canada and we are starting an outdoor focussed preschool. I do know the value of gardening for all ages and to find your video for the sweet little butterfly garden it's just what I need to give to our landscape designer. Thanks so much will stay in touch to let you see how we progress. Always love your vids thanks again for inspiring us.. hugs to Benjamin
The new hair color looks great Laura! I noticed it but thought it was lighting at first, then remembered you mentioned it in your highlights video for this past week
I really like the rustic look of the fence as is, especially for a butterfly garden. Seems they would be attracted to the most natural looking area. Perfect for a children's garden as they grow. You deserve the award of the year for doing all of that work by yourself!! That is amazing and you were still standing when it was done in 100 degree heat! Woman of the Year Award for sure!! Congratulations!!
I ADORE re-purposed and whimsical items in a garden. I know that Benjamin will feel very special to have this lovely butterfly sanctuary to create with his mom. Another parenting moment that you've hit out of the park. Simply lovely!
Have you got all those power tools? If not, you're in for some serious labor and time. I'm subscribed to a few woodworking channels. One guy made an enormous wardrobe cabinet from pallet wood. He removed all the nails, filled in the holes, sanded each piece down and applied a beautiful stain to it. It was extraordinary, but a TON of work.
I love the warped and odd shapes in between this, makes it so much more charming and rustic ... whimsical for a butterfly garden 🦋🦋🌸🌺🌻 ... I know you are on top of everything, but just in case, I saw some of the nails jutting out longer than the depth of the wood... maybe saw those off 😬
Happy Monday! I’m lost on sundays without a Laura & Aaron video!! Lol. Benjamin is going to love it! You need to put a strawberry plant in there & for sure Benjamin will never leave there hahahah❤️☕️☕️☕️
Good morning y’all! Only Laura would/could start a new garden spot as she awaits her Hartley. I LOVE this fenced in butterfly garden project and I’m so looking forward to seeing it planted and Benjamin’s reaction! 🦋🐝🦋
The little garden reminds me of Peter Rabbit! The inconsistency of the boards makes it so charming!
Maybe the succulent bunny should live there now too for the Peter rabbit theme.
@@fielddaisy yes that would be the special touch that makes the whole garden a special place
Bunnies would squeeze through those pickets! But concrete bunny planters would love a spot in the butterfly garden!

I'd hesitate to use pressurized wood for a fence around an edibles garden though. Keep the plantings ornamental.

I LOVE ❤️ the quirkiness of the pallet wood and that it’s an up cycling project!!! I would love this in my own yard…gives me some encouragement to try it in my own👏🏻
Such a cute idea. I bet Benjamin loves his new garden area since it will be his area . You are a great Mom
I TOTALLY LOVE THIS!!!! Good on you momma and be so proud of yourself
A very talented lady. Very cute.
Benjamin will have a great time planting with you. 🙂
This reminds me of building the pallet walk!
Kudos to you Laura for not getting any splinters in your hands from those pallets!! I've worked with pallets before making them into herb planters and ended up with 2 in each hand! Love your ideas, you're my #1 Gardener inspiration!
I love this project, and can’t wait to see it planted.
It so sweet to make a garden space for Benjamin just like how you had yours when you were younger. The picket fence looks great. You said it wasn't difficult but for me it would be. I really admire how talented you are♥️
Your skills are never ending, great job!!
I noticed it but thought it was lighting at first, then remembered you mentioned it in your highlights video for this past week
it looks so good dark!
The fence looks great! Benjamin will love the new butterfly garden.
I ADORE re-purposed and whimsical items in a garden. I know that Benjamin will feel very special to have this lovely butterfly sanctuary to create with his mom. Another parenting moment that you've hit out of the park. Simply lovely!
Loved how you used recycle pallets!
Laura I love your tenacious spirit! 🦋
How awesome, what a lovely idea 😁 Good evening from Perth, Western Australia 🌼
You are a beautiful soul! You mentally refresh the world! TYFS.
Parsley, dill, fennel, and rue are good additions for your pollinators, black swallowtail butterflies love these herbs
yes!!!
I love the rustic look without any stain 😍
Oh my goodness it’s so cute! It makes me want to run out and find some pallets! 🏃🏿♀️Off to work I go instead 😩😂 Good morning y’all!
Good morning! Have a great week!
@@Bamboo4U2 Hi Jake. I also live watching woodworking channels. Can you share the name of some? I like Mathias Wandel's projects.
@@mariafolch8067 let me know if this works

Love it how Russel the Cat made another surprise cameo.
Love how you recycled the pallets . Can’t wait to see the next step. Great memories for you and your son. 👍🏻👍🏻
Perfectly imperfect!!! I love this! Use what ya got! Using different sizes of boards and screws! It’s awesome!!
A lovely way to start my Monday morning commute. Thank you Garden Answer.
Awww! Benjamin is going to absolutely love it! You're such a Good Momma! Take lots of pictures because those memories are Priceless!
I love the warped and odd shapes in between this, makes it so much more charming and rustic ... whimsical for a butterfly garden 🦋🦋🌸🌺🌻 ... I know you are on top of everything, but just in case, I saw some of the nails jutting out longer than the depth of the wood... maybe saw those off 😬
Love, love, love your fence! I'm glad that you aren't going to stain it since it has such a good rustic vibe as is. It will be fun to watch it grow.
Oh my gosh! Brilliant idea on the pallets! I can’t wait to see it grown in!
The whole picket fence project is charming! Benjamin will have such sweet memories of his very own garden. Great project!
Wow I love it!! You did a great job. Its going to be so much fun for the kiddos ☺ 💕
I love using pallets for projects. My potting bench is made completely out of pallet wood. It lasts forever! I'm so glad you are re-using/recycling.
Happy Monday! I’m lost on sundays without a Laura & Aaron video!! Lol. Benjamin is going to love it! You need to put a strawberry plant in there & for sure Benjamin will never leave there hahahah❤️☕️☕️☕️
I still have about 4 years of Garden Answer videos to catch up on so I don't miss out on Sundays.
On Sundays I now re-watch the latest garden tour 😀
I watch the highlights video on sundays
Good morning y’all! Only Laura would/could start a new garden spot as she awaits her Hartley. I LOVE this fenced in butterfly garden project and I’m so looking forward to seeing it planted and Benjamin’s reaction! 🦋🐝🦋
Turned out cute. Can’t wait to see flower choices.
Me too! It did turn out great! So cute!
