I think the craziest subtlety was that she was so adamant about the cop not checking his ID so there wouldn’t be as much of a trace of where he went after he goes missing, and she disguised it as protecting him against racist cops!
She didn't want him to show his ID so that she could deny he came with her to the cops. She just made it sound like it was because of racial profiling. Really, really great writing

Everyone’s talking about the alternative ending, so here’s my take. If the ending would’ve been where Chris gets put in prison it would’ve made no sense, because of the crime scene of the entire house. They would find the old man they were doing the incision on and also see the incisions on Georgina’s head and connect the dots. Also the dad being the neurosurgeon and the brother also being in scrubs not to mention all the footage on the TV about their family history. Maybe I’m looking into this too much but if this was real life Chris probably would’ve gotten off based on the crime scene.
Dont forget, the movie is also a bit of a commentary towards the common struggles of african-american individuals, so Chris being convicted in the alt ending serves the purpose of the commentary, showcasing the unfair treatment of the police towards people of color

Interesting point on the girlfriend coming to Chris's defense. She knew in advance that her family would attempt to use/kidnap him, and if the policeman had clocked Chris's ID it would've left a paper trail connecting him to her. So while that moment seems nice, in reality there's an ulterior motive. It's kinda cool to watch the girlfriend with this kind of thing in mind, everything she does is very intentional.
The most unbelievable part was Chris expecting Rose to help him escape right after he found out she was CLEARLY lying the whole time. He should've known he was on his own the moment he saw that box of photos, but for some reason he still stands around and waits for her to find the keys Lol
Actually that wasn’t stupid because he knew that if the family knew that he was aware that there was something wrong, they might harm him. So he was actually being smart by not panicking and acting as if he didn’t know.
The biggest mistake is trusting your girlfriend in this situation. This is HER family that's she's CLEARLY very happy and well connected with, and if they're acting creepy and she's pretending nothing is wrong then she clearly has got it out for you too. Everything in this movie sounds absolutely insane and the plot twists just kept on coming. And I cannot explain the amount of satisfaction and victory I felt that the cop car that pulled up at the end turned out to be his friend. Phenomenal Job
Crazy the whole double meaning behind the picking cotton from the chair, is the same survival tactic ancestors had to do to keep themselves alive as well. Great movie.
Indeed. This is why my advice is to cooperate. At worst Chris could fight the ticket. His girlfriend was definitely acting odd. At best, simple explanation would have sufficed.
I'm so glad they changed the original ending. It was just so depressing and it felt good to see this man win after being smart (that is, once he stopped letting all the racism and little things slide) get a happy ending.
A few nice little details about the movie: At the Party everyone is wearing some form of red garment (tie, shirt, or scarf, etc) and Chris is the only one wearing blue, almost to symbolize the two political parties. Another thing was the deer symbolism. They hit and killed a deer, then the dad talks about how they’re “taking over and need to be killed” and then later on the dad is killed by a stuffed deer head.
The alternative ending is pretty sad , The cop car ends up actually being cops an Chris gets arrested , then Rod visits him in prison tryna help him build a case but Chris knowing everyone would think he’s crazy just said “ Rod , I’m Fine . “
Yeah. It was a hard ending and I’m glad Peele decided not to make it canon. It’s realistic but it’s frustrating because there are so many films where PoC characters don’t make it out or get the happy end they deserve. This is one part I do appreciate about it - The peace of mind Chris gets is trying to help Georgina (the maid) in the way he couldn’t help his mom. That was the one trauma the Armitages weaponized via a hypnosis trigger and Chris’s attempt to help Georgina was his way of taking back control and a subtle way of getting the closure he didn’t know he needed until then. It makes the prison sentence look so minor in comparison because his mind is no longer a prison.
@@corimoon3360 wym? It’s very realistic, what simple crimes can they not figure out? You realize there are things like dna testing and fingerprints right? And missing people data bases? You don’t think they’ll find the maid and the groundskeeper and discover what happened to them? After they went missing too. You’re dumb that ending is very unrealistic you’re just saying it is because they’re Black and you want to be a victim. Sorry to break it to you but stuff like that doesn’t just happen to black people it happens to everybody
@@ehall3915 This ending would've been very unrealistic if the house wasn't burned to the ground because all of the evidences were in it. That was very dumb of him to do that. There was the tape of the grandfather explaining everything (thus confessing everything), all of the clinical/medical tools and rooms, the restraints, the pictures of the daughter with all these missing black people, probably records and so on ! Now that the house is burned the only thing that may help him is the dead bodies of the maid and the gardener. They could (maybe) prove via dna testing that the brain inside their head is not theirs. But without the house's evidences : who will listen to a black man telling such a crazy story ? And to your last comment : yes of course stuff like that (false accusation, abuse, etc) happens to non black people wow thanks Captain Obvious we know that. It's like saying "you know guys men get raped too". Of course it happens but the situations are so different you just cannot compare them. Xoxo take care !
When he realized rose is in on it, I would have told her I need to take a piss before we go. Open the bathroom door and close it so they think you went there, then sneak into roses room and sneak out the window like you said. Its not like they wont let you go pee first, they clearly value 'quality' so i doubt any of them want their new specimen pissing himself while hypnotized and ruining their floors.
Why wouldn't rose still be in her room?? What if she watches you go in and out of the bathroom, what if they do it, what if they have cameras. There's lots of problems, what if they hear the window. What if they still have the group of people outside. This is a great option but many ways to go wrong
Could’ve called his friend and then a cab with the phone still on the charger. And who in this day and age goes anywhere/does anything with a dead phone lol

I appreciate horror films that show events (such as the mystery driver kidnapper here) at the START of the movie! We find out it was the brother. This forces you to really pay attention while watching. I think nothing does this better than Juon The Grudge
I’m white so I can’t begin to understand what it’s like but it just genuinely annoys me so much that if he would’ve been discovered by a different cop that this all could’ve been blamed on him and he would’ve gone to jail. It’s disgusting that stuff like this happens in real life.
I mean it does look like he murdered a whole family and if he tried to explain what actually happened no one would believe him because it sounds ridiculous.
Didnt Chris send the picture to his friend? If so, why didnt the friend show the picture to the cops, he's been missing for six months that would be suspicious enough to get cops to the house to see what was up, right?
there's one last thing to think about though, his hypnosis can and most likely will be triggered each time a cup is tapped by a spoon as it was the trigger the first time so finding help to try to get the trigger of a spoon tapping a cup would be the best thing to do as soon as you escape with your friend.
This movie is perfection. I didn't see it until many months since it came out, managed to hear the hype but not have it spoiled and it was amazing just to finally see people take...competent, appropriate steps, like a normal person in normal world, and not be a dumbass. Each time I watch it I get new details.
I got so scared I had to skim past to the ending. That girlfriend is an amazing actress. I fell for her act the entire time and only thought her family was suspicious

I'm so glad they changed the original ending. It was just so depressing and it felt good to see this man win after being smart (that is, once he stopped letting all the racism and little things slide) get a happy ending.
What's the original ending?
@@egg8494 police pull up and arrest him
@@egg8494 The same policeman who was racially profiling our protagonist caught him and arrested him for the "crimes he committed."
A few nice little details about the movie:
At the Party everyone is wearing some form of red garment (tie, shirt, or scarf, etc) and Chris is the only one wearing blue, almost to symbolize the two political parties.
Another thing was the deer symbolism. They hit and killed a deer, then the dad talks about how they’re “taking over and need to be killed” and then later on the dad is killed by a stuffed deer head.
Wow I didn’t even realize the deer part!
Man, that guy's a badass. He didn't even flinch when he was stabbed through his hand!
It was because of adrenaline, but yes he is a clever badass who saved himself from death.

That's the alternative ending. The original ending is what you see here.
Despiting being dark, at least he didn't get mind control and have his body used by someone else.

@@JuriAmari if this happened irl they’d definitely figure out what was happening tho, that ending is very unrealistic

Why has no on recommended genius on this yet😂😘
Sry, the kissy face emoji was a mistake
Why wouldn't rose still be in her room?? What if she watches you go in and out of the bathroom, what if they do it, what if they have cameras. There's lots of problems, what if they hear the window.
