    There is definitely studs on the bottom....actually the same studs as on the top, they run all the way from the floor to the ceiling.

    Great job. I built one in 2016, and it's still used 5 days a week now. I would change out from using wood dowl for your pulley system and hopefully the pulley you're using are ballbearing. The pulley bar can be had for cheap, or even made from steel or iron bar just as you did for the pull-up bar. For ballbearing pulley you can use a garage door pulley. As you get stronger, you will use more weight and find these suggestions (hopefully) helpful.

      Thank you, and thanks for the tips!!

    • @michaelkulman7095
      @michaelkulman7095 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure metal is stronger.
      Wood is pretty strong though if you don't drill a hole in it. I used some climbing rope tied into a loop with double fisherman's and then used cow hitch multiple turns for a high pulley bar.
      As far as strength I used a dowel, 2" closet rod of wood for several years for pull ups at a 225# body weight. No holes were drilled it it, I used knots and hung it from ceiling.
      Yes I've seen pipe drilled with eye bolt used successfully too and of course it's stronger.
      I feel if he can hang from his handle ( attached to pull up bar )
      then it's probably strong enough.
      I do feel not drilling a hole in it would have been better though.
      He has no leg hold down so he won't be pulling more than his body weight from high pulley
      so hanging from it is a valid test,
      tie it to pull-up bar, maybe do some pull ups... don't bend your knees back, be ready to fall, not on your knee caps.
      If it holds your weight I think you are probably good but don't sue me, my suggestions are for entertainment purposes only!
      I accept no liability and you should get an engineer's stamp!
      As of course you should for your rack. I leave it to you...

    I'm going to be designing and making my own power rack soon! I have a couple questions. First, do you like using the pipe + flange + end cap as your J-Cup? I'm not sure whether I should go with a simpler solution like that one, or design my own out of wood. Second, do the legs of your power rack rest fully on the floor or are they floating? I want to make one that folds up against the wall, and I'm considering using furniture feet that can lift off the ground so I don't scrape the floor as I fold it up. I like the designs of your accessories! Great build!

    • @nikoscarpentry
      @nikoscarpentry  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kevin! Yeah, the pipe j-cups are perfect and stronger than anything you can make out of wood, so I'd go that route. The legs rest on the floor yes.

    • @KevinKampen
      @KevinKampen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nikoscarpentry glad to hear you like them! I guess I was more envisioning something that's a mix of wood and pipes for the J cups, so that the barbell doesn't hit metal on metal. Something like in this video: th-cam.com/video/Pz7gc5VVKMg/w-d-xo.html

      @@nikoscarpentry I think scratches would be inevitable. And while that isn't a huge problem, I think I'd still like to avoid it if possible. The more major concern would be if either the pipes or the bar got a dent, potentially compromising the structural integrity. But I assume that would only happen if a heavy enough weight was slammed down on the pipes. Unlikely to happen, but still something that worries me. With wood being a softer material, that will definitely dent first

    All that time and effort and you could have just bought the correct size lumber. Time equals money and you wasted more time glueing, cutting and routing than just buying the proper materials up front. Carpenters don’t do glue 1x4s together to make 2x4s when building houses, you shouldn’t gamble on it either if you’re building a squat rack

      At my home depot a 4x4x8 spf is a special order, a special order during lockdown isn’t something I wanted to wait for. Took an extra hour, didn’t mind it at all. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

      2 1x4's laminated together are stronger than 1 2x4 board, may not matter in building a frame for a house that gets a lot of stuff added to it like sheeting, but in this case I actually think it was a better way to do it

      @@RobbertVanBobbert this is not engineered lumber, this is glued and screwed together. There’s no way you can compare this to engineered lumber. I’ve seen that stuff destroy standard saw blades in a days work. This ain’t it chief
