  • Having a squat rack to hold the weight is nice but having a full power rack with a lat pull down tower is even better! Fully Wooden DIY!

I'm surprised with some of the negative reviews. I was so impressed with the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

Make concrete weights! Go fully-fledged Fred Flintstone! Very nice build. I'm not really handy but I think I'll give it a go. I would probably insert the pull-up bar THROUGH the 4 X 4 and attach it on the outside. This will lessen the strain on the screws inside the wood because the load would be supported by the wood itself instead of the screws.

Nice work. So many DIY racks being posted these days. From DIY Guru's steel rack to DIY Creators to Buff Dudes to this. All different designs with different price points. Rack styles with different benefits. I'm a fan of the Buff Dudes design that also uses 4x4 and they recently loaded it to over 1000lbs to test max loading. It didn't even blink. The DIY Guru steel one requires welding skill but it is nice looking rack. I would need to still buy the bar and weights which could be pretty pricey.

Nice build. On the posts where you have the holes for adjustable pins, I'd recommend 1/8 steel cover plates on front and back of the post with drilled pin holes. They can be attached with (2) 1 1/2" countersunk screws at 12" spacing. This will give your rack many more years of heavy use.

4:52 I think it was a mistake that you made that incision on the vertical wood with holes and made that dado joint with the short horizontal wood. That incision should have been made on the other side where you put the the longer horizontal wood for the squat rest. As seen in 10:36, that joint ended up just with the 90 degree steel plate underneath. That joint needs to be strong and would have been a lot stronger with the dado joint.
