@@erron2504 exactly! Clutch packs in an LSD can wear out, and in drift they are unpredictable. If you slow down mid drift quite often they will unlock and behave like an open diff would. Good question! Limited slip diffs are really unpredictable when drifting. They usually lock up properly when you initiate a drift, but if you change your speed at all mid drift they tend to unlock and act like an open diff, causing you to straighten. This makes it predictable and stay locked 100% of the time. Thanks for watching!
Wonder if cutting on the diff, to get that pin out affected the integrity of it at all? Hopefully that rearend doesn't grenade on ya at launch on your first pass, lol
I was honestly quite worried about that exact thing happening lol! Especially because I was an idiot and cut the wrong side to start with. But I can confirm the diff holds up great, I have really beat on it already! (track vid is up on Sunday btw)
Doing a build this quick was a first for me. I actually had to sell a different project (my ae86) which was a sad day, but it allowed me to ball out on a lot of parts all at once. I'd make a list of all the parts you want for your car, and maybe break it up into 'phases'. might be easier to decide what to buy and when!
I love my 3v but even with a tune, cams, cold air intake, long tubes, and straight pipe, you will still be under 350whp lol coming from a guy with a 600whp 3v
Don't get me wrong it's nice car coming from a Mustang guy, but you really couldn't have picked a worse car for drifting purposes. Weight distribution on those s197's is going to make that a nightmare. Sure, you can make it spiral out of control easilly just like every mustang not counting the SN97. Issei383 is right 😅. Won't see 350whp. But the chassis is pretty light for the physical size, under 3500 lbs. 320whp is doable and easy. It's when trying to reach the 400whp range that it falls flat. @@javS197 heck yeah thanks dude! Judging by your name I'm guessing you've got one too?
@LooseFab exactly right, an 06 GT. I have over 10k in parts sitting around for a restomod. I have toddlers, so it'll be an extremely slow build whenever I can get to it, haha
@@javS197 haha basically the same car then! What colour is yours? And what sort of parts have you got stockpiled?
@LooseFab it's dark blue. Someday I'll repaint it red though. Phase 1 is replacing/upgrading all parts involved with suspension, drivetrain, brakes, wheels, bracing, and underbelly repaint/refinish. All major parts are just waiting for me in boxes, I HOPE I can begin this summer. Needless to say, I'm crazy to even consider the amount of labor involved (I have past experience in such a project though).
@@javS197 sounds like it will be a hoot when it's done! What sort of projects have you had in the past?
What was the width on the rear new wheels ?
I go into more detail in the suspension episode of the build, but they are 18x9.5 +22

I’m confused a little, why are you welding the diff on a live-axle lsd car? Well it be better drifting wise?
@@erron2504 exactly! Clutch packs in an LSD can wear out, and in drift they are unpredictable. If you slow down mid drift quite often they will unlock and behave like an open diff would. The right way would be to run a full spool in this car but I didn't want to have to mess with the gear backlash, so I just went the welding route. Good question and thanks for watching!
@@LooseFab thanks for the information man I appreciate it.
@@erron2504 no problem man!
Welder is begging for more amps haha turn it up a little!
@@seedeebun haha the poor 110 MIG was tapped out! I have a 220 tig but didn't think I'd be able to get a good weld with the tig welder lol. More amps definitely would've helped!
How much did you end up paying for the car? Miles etc..?
Good questions, I should have mentioned that in the video. Car has 110,000km (60,000 miles). Seller was asking 10k and I managed to talk him down to 8k ($5,800 USD). Definitely not a pristine example but I wasn't looking for a perfect one. Thanks for watching
Why weld the diff when all gt mustang come with a limited slip diff?
Good question! Limited slip diffs are really unpredictable when drifting. They usually lock up properly when you initiate a drift, but if you change your speed at all mid drift they tend to unlock and act like an open diff, causing you to straighten. This makes it predictable and stay locked 100% of the time. Thanks for watching!

Wonder if cutting on the diff, to get that pin out affected the integrity of it at all?

I was honestly quite worried about that exact thing happening lol! Especially because I was an idiot and cut the wrong side to start with. But I can confirm the diff holds up great, I have really beat on it already! (track vid is up on Sunday btw)

I own a 07 Mustang convertible 4.0 v6 myself, that I plan to drop a v8 in if the v6 ever dies.

@@LooseFab In a perfect world, I'd love to drop a Coyote in it, but i'd settle for a 3v or even an old 289 and go old-school.

You in America? I'm up in Canada and they're really abundant up here! Thanks for watching!
Man what do u to afford all the stuff? Wanna start building my car to but don’t know where to start
Why not put a set of 35 spline axles in it and a spool in it ?
@@andrewslagle1974 I wanted to but I didn't want to mess with setting gear backlash. Plus this was free!
I love my 3v but even with a tune, cams, cold air intake, long tubes, and straight pipe, you will still be under 350whp lol coming from a guy with a 600whp 3v

Can't wait to see how it handles out on the track!
That's a mustang you'd want for drifting.
@@EchoFoEvah thanks for taking the time to comment! You should watch through the build series, I have had the car to the track a few times now and I absolutely love the way it drives. Feels very controllable and easy to drive compared to some other cars I've drifted!

@@issei383 no I think it will probably make 1 million horsepower
Issei383 is right 😅. Won't see 350whp. But the chassis is pretty light for the physical size, under 3500 lbs. 320whp is doable and easy. It's when trying to reach the 400whp range that it falls flat. We have various builds on youtube explaining this and more. Don't be discouraged. We are talking about great power for a drift daily.
I'm glad someone else addressed it. While these cars make super fun power they however will never make anywhere near 350 with factory drive train and factory tune, I have one with full system exhaust from pypes with FPR Intake and howards rattler cams.
