I drove my 2015 C-Max to over 232,000 miles before the transmission went. Some of the 2013-2015 models had an issue with the transmission, but it was resolved in 2016. Other than that, the only money I put into it was general maintenance, and when it got to about 200,000 miles, the blower motor needed replaced. That's it. And no, it never overheated. I live in Kansas and drove it in plenty of 100°-plus heat waves, and it handled great and kept me cool. It's odd that you made that assessment and live near the Pacific where the temperatures are mild. You never said it actually overheated on you. Regardless, now I'm shopping for another car, and I might buy a 2017 C-Max with 73,000 miles on it. Also, it was very much a comfortable ride on the highway for road trips. I disagree about it being only a city car. I drove part-time for Uber and Lyft in mine, and passengers always commented how it was much more spacious than it looked from the outside, and very comfortable. Its drivetrain and hybrid system are built on Toyota technology. It's a very reliable car. I'm sorry you had troubles with it.

    • @petrolectric

@@robinhartzell2380 it overheated many many times on me… every time I went to Las Vegas and Arizona (especially in mountain areas) it overheated. And in California it overheated when I was in the mountains which was many times for work - pushes the car much harder and wouldn’t recommend this if you’re in driving in them alot. I think it would’ve helped a lot if the front grill was slotted so some air could actually get in the engine bay. Stupid they block it all off. But glad to hear you had good luck with yours!

I bought a Avis C-Max rental from a Ford dealer that bought it at an auction. It was a year old in 2017, had 18K. It has 71,000 miles on it now. It was 28K new and I paid 19K for it. It’s a fully loaded model with backup camera. The car has good pickup and plenty of storage capacity. I had to replace the backup breaks and the USB charger in the front went out twice. I get 41 mpg. In the two severe winter months the mpg goes down to 32 mpg. This car drives a lot better than the Toyota Prius it replaced.

Powertrain on mine is sadly garbage and getting horrendously expensive. Front timing cover seal seems to be a common issue across the board for this configuration and I got burned by needing it repaired twice - thankfully paid under warranty both times but the hassle is extremely frustrating. Also just developed a weepy master cylinder now that I’m 1 year past warranty which cost me $5k out of pocket to fix. Per tech at the dealership it’s a common issue caused by porosity in the casting, nothing to be done for it but open your wallet and hope the next one is better. Just a shit quality casting that slowly develops leak paths through the wall due to internal defects, 100% workmanship issue on Mazda’s end but if you’re a wink past warranty it’s your problem now. FWIW, throughout my ownership experience I’ve found Mazda’s customer service to be absolutely atrocious when I’ve needed them. I’d heard good things about Mazda quality and customer support but after my experience with my 2018 CX-5, I’m never going back. Literally the opposite experience I’ve had over decades with Toyotas on every front, which I’ll be going back to. YMMV.

But personally it’s not a luxury or rare car so really wouldn’t worry about it much… the cost to do it versus value of the car doesn’t make much sense to me but to each their own!

Yeah, the CX 50 is made in Alabama at a new high tech facility that also builds Toyotas and employs American workers rather than Japanese workers. Wouldn’t wanna buy one of those! Duh, I wonder why the American economy is going down the drain?

Bought my 2017 CX5 GT new in October 2017. Soul Red with cream interior. 147k km (91k miles) and zero issues. Do the routine maintenance myself and never had a vehicle that was easier to do an oil change on. Tires, brake pads and rotors, spark plugs, battery, wiper blades, air and pollen filter is about it in my 7 years of ownership. Interior has worn pretty well except for the dye on the driver seat has worn down so the side bolsters are more beige than cream. Would be a perfect driver if it had more power (turbo wasn’t available in 2017), better gas mileage, more storage, (the console and door pockets are tiny) and I find the seats lack thigh support since the bottom cushions aren’t long enough, atleast for my legs.

@@phil6926 yeah not sure if I mentioned it but the seats are not super comfortable for me - I’m 6-3 with long legs. They’re fine but after a while I get antsy and need to get out. I use other cars for long road trips so not a big deal for me

@ I just checked on what I’ve spent in 7 years and 91.5k miles: Maintenance $3,400 CDN ($2,370 USD), Gas $20,500 CDN ($14,300 USD) so my cost per mile much the same as yours $0.162 CDN per km which works out to $0.182 USD per mile

Sport mode is really only good for long roads with a lot of turns. It increases engine braking and also acceleration in short bursts.
